4A AREA A marching was a nightmare

Im a graduate from one of the high schools competing today, we’ve been AREA champs the last two years. This year (for some reason) the competition was moved to our hometown, right when it was scheduled to completely downpour and rain EVERYWHERE. I was there in support of my siblings still in it, so I care greatly about the scoring and how they do. They rehearsed in the rain, had to cover speakers and mics with plastic, and still managed (imo) to play wonderfully, despite everything going against them. Finals was cancelled due to the downpour, bands were postponed, nobody was at their best because it legitimately just SUCKED. These kids were freezing cold in pouring rain, and they decided to continue going (despite pushing a different AREA back for the same reason to compete next Tuesday). Overall it was handled horribly by UIL, we’re still going to state yay! but we deserved (and other bands) deserved so much better than what we were given

Just coming back from a first place at our Area competition

For the 4A Area D marching competition, our band got first, which is the first time our band has gotten area champs in almost a decade and it’s the first time with our current directors. I’m so proud of how far our band has come ❤️

How hard being a 6A band in Utah is.

My Marching band is in 6A in Utah. Our bands are based off of school size. We have a 125 people and the other band have up to like 250. We get last or second to last every time. We have a good program, we just aren't big or powerful enough for our division. I don't care about scores or placements, but it is kinda depressing to work hard and not feel like I'm not good enough. I feel like we would do better with bands that are closer in size to us. I love Marching Band, but sometimes it's just, hard.

We got knocked out at area

When they called all the finalists up, I was sure we were going to go ahead to state with top three. When they called forth place, everyone collectively went “don’t say us don’t say us don’t say us”. But it was us. Kinda sad but hopefully we can get one step further next year. Anyone else have an experience like that?

Oklahoma state championships

Just wanted the mellos from Sapulpa to know that your section is absurdly good, especially for the size, never heard 5 mellos sound that loud in my life.

Football team winning

Unfortunately for me as our football team won last night. So now we have to go to a football game 35 minutes away on Friday on our day off from school to a football game the night before midstates. Our call time for midstates is 9 am luckily but still it's annoying. After loosing the last 2 games until last night o wasn't worried now we have to go. Like I'm excited they are winning but really the day before midstates. Last year it was a home game and it was fine but not this year unfortunately. As someone who needs sleep to do well it's making me a little nervous.

Custom jacket

What are the best companies to order high school marching band jackets from? Specifically the black jackets that can have a logo on front and back, and embroider with name of section and name of member

2024 Brunswick Sound Spectacular - Danbury High School Marching Band

In only their second year of OMEA marching band competition, Danbury tamed the dragon (see what I did there, Bloo fam?) they hunted, showing that it’s not the size of the band in the show, it’s the size of the show in the band.

How to prepare for SU band day

So in two weeks I’m going to the Southern University high school band day. I play Sousa at my high school but I do Harv past experience on baritone and I am taking a baritone to the band day. I know that I’m gonna be playing some pretty hard music which I am for the most part ready for can anyone give me some advice for this as I am a little worried about my ability to play high note’s especially in the high Gb-Bb range.

False reports were made about me and my girlfriend and I don’t know what to do.

So we had a competition Tuesday, and when we finished performing, since we are a smaller band, we went sit in the stands and watch other bands. Well me and my girlfriend sat next to each other, and we were holding hands and no more. No laying on each other, no kissing, not even a hug. Come to find out, another band member reported us for it. But they didn’t report us for holding hands did. They specifically said that we were full making out, touching each other, the whole thing. We have never done anything even close to that at any competition or games. We weren’t told who reported it, when it was reported, or if there’s any evidence. We weren’t called to the office, but I heard staff talking about it. And if these false reports end up taking effect, we could be facing suspension or even expulsion. I don’t know what to do, right now I’m just waiting to see if one of us gets called in for questioning on Monday.

Stuck in sym band 4 years in a row.

Well it’s another year, but my senior has made sym band a record 4 years out of 4. He doesn’t make last chair or anything, but obviously is devastated. He has excellent attendance, takes lessons, and practices. He is where he needs to be when he needs to be. He was not offered section leader as the only senior in his section. He has accepted that this is his lot in high school band. But what guidance as a parent do I give when he wants to quit because he’s just done? Do we quit the final semester of senior year or finish it out as one of two seniors in the sym band? I would love to give a motivational Rudy type speech here, but I’ve got a big fat nuthin!
