I played Tenor in HS and have not played since graduating (2010). I believe I had a school-owned Yamaha Etude 200 Student Series and also played a little bit of Soprano. What is the best Tenor or Soprano brand to purchase for those with experience but looking to get back to it? (I’m damn-near a newbie again!)
Can calcium deposit in mouthpiece cause resistance?
I’m a guitarist of 20 years and have always wanted to learn the saxophone, so I’m just gonna dive in. I will admit I found Travel Sax 2 and feel it’s a good option for my situation.
Anyone own one of these? You can make comparisons to guitar products, I’d understand.
Does anybody have/ know where I could find the tenor sax sheet music for Rolling Stone's Live with Me? Any help would be appreciated!
Hey everyone! A few weeks ago, I asked for some testers to try out my reed-organizing app, and now it’s officially live on the Google Play Store!
Even tough some people said it would be completely useless and nonsense, I thought there’d still be a few players out there who’d find it useful. So if that’s you, check it out, and let me know what you think!
Here’s the Play Store link, and if you have any ideas or feedback, feel free to write me a message!

Hi all, I’m planning to buy my boyfriend a saxophone for his upcoming birthday next month. Now, he doesn’t know how to play saxophone or any other wind instrument for that matter, but a year ago he told me that he’s always wanted to play saxophone but never had a chance to learn. I literally dont know anything about this particular instrument so please, help me out. What kind should I buy for a beginner? Is there any books I can order to help him get started on playing? Thank you in advance!
Just had a huge performance and I messed up pretty badly ... I feel really horrible and disappointed in myself as I'd practiced a lot and it was my moment to shine... My bandmates were mostly pretty nice to me but I know some of them were also pretty upset that I'd messed up. The thing is, during every previous rehearsal and even the one we did before the actual performance, I did fine. The main issue that caused me to continually mess up was that for some reason, even though the exact same set up (reed, mouthpiece, sax, everything) worked perfectly fine during the rehearsal, I couldn't get out some notes during the actual thing. It was full of squeaks and notes just not coming out. After I'd already messed up the very first opening line (a solo part), my confidence was shattered and I kept worrying about not being to produce notes and I just continued to squeak throughout the set. After that set I went to a room to try and see if it was just the nerves, but even then the sax just kept squeaking and not being able to play as well as it did earlier in the day. Before the next set I swapped the entire mouthpiece and reeds and the second set went really smoothly.
Ok but after saying all of that... My main concern is: I swear my embrochure and everything wasn't affected that much by the nerves , so why did I squeak so much (even after the shit show when I had already mostly calmed down) even though everything was working perfectly fine just a couple hours before...
I love Fibereed (hemp especially). That brand is through the roof now, getting up around $40 EACH. Anybody aware of any "complex" sounding synthetic reeds that aren't so dang $$$? My instrument sits long enough for the reed to dry out, and I don't have time to moisten it, so I only use cane for practice. Faxx? Ponzol? There's a little chatter about Ponzol, but it's inconsistent.
Anyone got a RIA for sale or trade?..I'm looking to buy one or trade for one of the two Otto Link Florida USA Links I have (one an original .95 and one is a .105 Brian Powell reface - pictures are of the BP 7*)I've got one at the the minute stamped 5* (but measuring .95 as RIAs run a size up), and I've previously had an 8 (.120) but am keen to try something between the two.
Please send the thread to anyone who might have one - these pieces are rare but someone on here must have on they're not using!.. Thanks!
Jazz bari player Claire Daly unfortunately passed away today at age 66. She was truly one of the greats, if you've never heard her 2023 album VuVu for Frances, you're missing out.

Hey y'all, it's me again. I posted a couple of months ago asking for feedback and advice on my playing. I started learning saxophone back in December when I get my first saxophone which is a vintage Pan-American alto from 1920's (photos in my profile) I've been working on intonation and dinámics. I haven't had as much of practice as I would like. This song I learn by ear (I can't read sheet music) and record it after a couple tries , there's mistakes and all but I will appreciate your thoughts and advices. TIA.

I’m trying to learn how to tongue properly and while I can do it, there’s a noticeable ‘fthoo’ sound each time I tongue the reed.
What can I do to avoid this? Thank you.
Hi, second post within a few days here, I appreciate all the help so far! I’m about to buy a used tenor sax for myself to own instead of borrowing an old one from a local college. I found these saxes all in seemingly good condition within my price range, but genuinely have no clue what the difference is. Can someone please tell me what the difference is and rank them from best to worst? I play jazz/blues rock more than classical style if that helps.
Hope you enjoy! One of our favorites to play!
I'm interested in finding out more about this particular saxophone that I inherited from a friend. I don't know much about this instrument, or saxophone's in general as I am a pianist. Any information is welcome. Thank you in advance!
We need to move our whisper room from one apartment to another in the same building with an elevator in West Hollywood. Do you know anyone who can do this? We are willing to pay generously. Thank you! Jan
I have the opportunity to do some gigs but cannot find a decent pianist locally so I’m thinking about using prerecorded rhythm section to perform with. I’m a pro and have been playing for years so don’t need it to be easy. Would like to play jazz standards as well as some pop/rock/funk/soul. Any suggestions? I want it to be plug and play……thanks
