Sophisticated lady by Duke Ellington.
This guy was playing with Joni Mitchell at the fire aid concert. I’ve been trying to figure out what type of saxophone this is but have had no luck. Anyone know anything?
I play alto sax and have a selmer concept mouthpiece, i was wondering about buying a vandoren optimum ligature. Will it fit my mouthpiece?
Was wandering a pawn shop and a beautiful sax sent me a smile from far away. Upon handling it, it was a Selmer Super 80 II, with a Selmer C star MP. Fair use no-dings. It was priced at $600 and I asked for a discount! they said $480 I said $450 and it was mine!!!
It plays the full scale, I’ll check it with a light when I get back home.
Wanted one for many years but could not justify the price.
So I’ve had a meyer 5m for a while and the ligature is pretty dookie so anyone know some ligatures that will actually hold the reed on it and fit? (Also not be that expensive)
Some critics on what I'm doing "wrong" or could be doing better would be highly appreciated since I'm self taught :)
This is my third time playing baritone, im a little spitty in this recording. I’m in 8th grade and I mainly play soprano and tenor so this is a little different for me. The song played is cappricio 3 arranged by Raaf hekkema. (Ignore the caption i posted this on snap originally😭)
Whenever I play I feel like my tone is quite bad. However whenever I record myself it feels like it magically sounds a lot better, even good for my standards. I’m recording on my phone, so is the phone mic not picking up all the weird stuff going on with my tone?
Context: I got a teaching gig at a community music school a few weeks ago. I’ve personally been playing sax for a solid 8 years and I have no problems teaching beginners.
However, theres a few problems that came around after these few weeks. A few of my students has finished the syllabus that I was told to teach. The teacher before me told me to teach them studies or proper pieces afterwards. I’ve been teaching them pieces for lessons on end and its starting to feel very repetitve.
When I was at this stage as a student, I started joining bands and always had new band pieces to work on with my teacher. I also had lots of performance opportunities from school. However, when I urge my students to join bands, they either dont have the time or just simply dont want to.
How do I break out of the loophole of constantly teaching them new pieces when they dont even want to perform or join bands?
Hey all,
I had to sell my tenor sax for financial reasons 10 years ago and would like to purchase one to get back into it. Any tips or advice for a returning player as far as purchasing? From what I remember I had a Yamaha Intermediate YTS model and would like something that would allow me to redevelop my skills and feel confident going into an academic setting like community college night band. Anything helps!
Thanks in advance!
I'm in my middle school's wind ensemble and we are playing a piece called Flying High (March). The piece is relatively easy until you get to measure 87. Reallyyyy fast sixteenth notes with awkward fingerings (D to C to B to C) The tempo my BD plans for us to eventually play is 160BPM.
I’ve been having lessons and practicing up to an hour a day for the last two months . Recorded this yesterday, “Fly me to the moon”. Still plenty of room for improvement I think. I played this on 1949 Buescher Big B alto.

Hey do you guys have any short and easy jazz standard tenor sax repertoire for me to learn ??
Hi, me and a couple of friends are looking to start playing jazz, and I’ve volunteered to be the one to learn sax, yet know nothing as of now, so was wondering if this was a good sax to start off with, or if anyone knew a good beginner sax for on a reasonable budget.
What reeds do you guys recommend? Ive been playing classical alto sax for about 10 years now, and for the last years ive always used the original vandoren strength 3 but my stack is running out and i was wondering which ones to get, if i should stick to what i know or maybe i should try something different. Maybe it's worth trying synthetic reeds? Advise would be greatly appreciated, thanks
Just found these Rico reeds at a vintage store. Anyone have a guess at what year they are from?
I'm a saxophonist from Serbia, and our music requires a LOT of double tonguing, which I can't seem to get down. If you want to know what I'm talking about, listen to Goce Jankulov to understand. How do I do it?
66F restarted bari about a month ago after 50 years away. I'm having so much fun, doing really well and remembering more and more each day. My teacher says I should listen to lots of bari music so I have Spotify and I listen to all kinds of music. Tower of Power is my all time favorite, Leo Parker, Harry Carney, Adams, Mulligan, Cuber, I also found Bach Cello Suite 1 for bari--amazing. Leo P is a little too out there for me but I listen and learn. I have others in mind, but who would you recommend? I prefer blues, soul, funk and rock but I'm open to anything at all. Thanks kind Redditors!
Hi everyone. I was given this sax as a gift because it had not been used for a few years by my cousin. It's a Dixon sax, but I haven't found much online. I assume it's Chinese. In your opinion, is it a good, inexpensive sax? Does it sound good? Has anyone ever tried it?
I own a Jupiter saxophone I got when I was in middle school, played for a few years then dropped.
I'm started to play again (after 15 years) but I don't really like the plastic feeling it has compared to a Selmer I tried a while back ago.
I really want to get my hands on a Selmer but it's quite pricey, I don't know if I should get a Yamaha or a Jean-Paul instead?
Hi all, I'm buying a sax and have seen a few Keilwerth Edition alto saxes. Can't find much info about them though. Where were they made? The sellers are all asking around $1200. Is it worth it? Is it too much? One says that they go for about $2000 new. Is that true? There's also a cannonball 98 knight selling for the same price that caught my attention and a slightly cheaper Jupiter Custom 2000 (J2069, but not XO) Which sax would be the best out of them all? I've also been keeping an eye for a Jupiter JAS 767, but it seems to me that it's the worst out of the bunch. What do you all recommend? What is there to know about all of these guys? The Keilwerth Edition, the Cannonball 98 Knight?
TL;DR: asking for info on Keilwerth Edition alto and Cannonball 98 Knight. Which sax should I get? One of these two or a Jupiter JAS 767 or Jupiter J2069 Custom 2000 (not the XO though). Looking for an intermediate horn.
Thanks for stopping by, have a good one y'all. God bless
