I bought a couple of vintage bass drums on reverb. Sonor Phonics to be exact, and one of the bass drums arrived with a crack in it. It’s an old crack. Not from shipping. I used my UPS account number for shipping (meaning I payed to have them shipped) I knew it was a risk.
Now the owner didn’t want them back, but instead gave me a 90 percent discount, which I accepted as I’m already out shipping costs. So at least I’ve got one bass drum. But wanted a matching set.
So the question is, should I sell the one ok bass drum as is and sell the other for parts to recoup some of my expenses, or should I buy new Nordic shells and make sonor phonic replica bass drums? I’m torn, on one hand I hate to part out a vintage drum. On the other hand, I want two bass drums.
Slowly but surely building out my kit. Will be getting a china soon that will go where the L80 is. Also open for suggestions on some different textured splashes that might sound nice with the rest of the mix I’ve got going.
So my current drum kit sounds pretty bad. I want to make it sound better. I have 2 questions.
What cymbals should I buy for crash and ride?
How can I make my kick drum deeper and more powerful without a lot of reverb?
Context: I only have 1 crash and 1 ride but they are flimsy and don’t sound good. My kick has pillows in it and it doesn’t make a good sound when I hit it, it just is kind of a loud tap. When I take a single pillow out, it automatically reverberates way too much.
Before you give me any shit, I play so infrequently and I was doing an 8hr session. I need the skin on my hands so I can shake citrusy drinks.
“I’m not ashamed no more”
What do yall prefer? Looking to Pay maybe 1k to 2k. Willing to buy used.
Hey guys. What do you think of drummers who do a snare drum buzz roll, then just hit the ride and start riding it steadily for fun? Personally, I think it's very cool sounding. I'm sure it maybe noticeable in some folk rock. I'm sure there are chill, laid back rock drummers who have a lot of fun just playing around with snare buzz rolls using them as fills that segway right over tot he ride cymbal. Maybe are some of you guys who have thought about it just to experiment with in a chill ballad.
I'm quite sure there are bands that do that that I've not heard of.
Hey there,
I'm looking for a new drum throne. I'm playing drums since a couple of years and my pearl throne is really used up.
I'm not a professional and don't even play in a band or anything. Just love to drum and figure out stuff.
So I'm looking for a new throne. Because of kids, job and so on I don't have the time to play as much as I'd like to. I'd say I play average about 5 - 7 hours a week.
I heard great things about Roc N Soc thrones but I guess it would be kinda overkill to spend about 350 bucks on a throne. My entire kit isn't worth more than about 800.
What do you guys think. Should I really spend the amount of money for a drum throne considering the amount of time I'm able to play? Are there other quality thrones for let's say half the money? Any recommendations are welcome!
Hi all. Here with a question that I'm sure has been beaten to death by now but I'm feeling pretty stumped. I have a 6.5x14 Ludwig snare that I bought 2nd hand and kinda thought it was a Supraphonic but didn't care much at the time and just enjoyed playing it (didn't pay too much for it). Looking online now it would appear from the serial number (2148268) that it is an early 80's model. However, while the outer part of the drum is metal of some kind (I'm really no expert), the inner part of the shell is wood! From what I can find the Supraphonic shell is all metal so not one of those beasts. If anyone knows what it actually is however I would really appreciate it. Thanks!
EDIT: I tried to upload pics as well but wasn't able to due to guidelines (I assume)
I have two snare drums at my school, and I want to know which one is really better overall. I don’t know the years they were made and I can’t find anything about them specifically but I want to know which one sounds best.
Looking for a cheaper but quality cymbal set and I’m torn. They come out to about the same price
Tour starts next week, what are your must haves on the road?? So far I’ve made sure to have spare drum keys, easy to load cases, will be investing in a battery powered fan, a surplus of reading material, and a big bag of nuts (ya boy gets the munchies)
I have a PDP by DW Concept Series Gun Metal Over Steel Snare Drum 6x5 x 14 and Im trying to switch out the snare cord for straps but I don’t know which straps to get that would be long enough for it. I would appreciate some help.
Can anyone help me about the tom groove? Ive been trying to play this by ear and i jusy cant get it. Would anyone tell me how to do it?
I've been periodically watching FB marketplace the last couple months waiting for a good deal to buy my first kit. I'm not in a huge rush to pull the trigger as I have an ekit to keep me busy. Someone just beat me today on a Tama Imperialstar with Meinl hats and cymbals for $250, so now I'm back scrolling through the marketplace.
I came across this 5 piece Pearl Export kit with all hardware included. They have Sabian XS20 hats, crash, and ride it looks like. Also has a full Evans Sound-off mute pads, Sabian hard shell cymbal case, and a Ludwig bag for the stands I'm guessing (looks to be the size of an electric guitar bag). The kit looks brand new and was purchased for their son who didn't use it.
The mom says she spent over $1400 on everything. Does $750 seem like a solid price for this kit? It feels "fine" to me, but also seems like I might just be rushing to buy it after missing out earlier haha. I see such a wide range online with this kit that it's hard to tell. Thanks for any advice!
I’m trying to get nice ringy hardcore snare sound… out of a hd dry my snare is a 14 by 6 btw
Is there anyway to fix this?
