Mystery Excerpt

I sight read this excerpt with no title. Trying to identify where it’s from. This is what I can remember from it: -15-25 measures -8/8 meter -No marked key signature -Had a lot of flats as accidebtals marked -I think 4 bars of rest within -I think a measure an a half sustained note with a crescendo starting on 4 of one if the measures -Some of the rhythms in the measures were this: dotted 8th, 16th, 8th (grouped together); two 8ths (grouped together); and then dotted 8th, 16th, 8th (grouped together). -some rhythms were single 8ths with four 16ths grouped together

ChatGPT isn’t really helping me and it’s killing me.

Please help identify this Besson Euphonium

I purchased this Besson from an estate sale recently for $400. I don't know much about euphoniums.. could someone help me identify the model? I was thinking it was a compensating 4 valve? Any idea on its value on ebay? It has a few nicks here and there but overall in great shape it seems. The serial number is 450695.

Guys I don’t know what to do

This is basically just a repost from r/trombone, but I want more input.

I played euphonium for a while in a separate ensemble than my high school band and absolutely loved it and I would love to play it a lot more. It just seemed so great to me to be able to play fast technical passages without having to worry about slide positions. Anyways, if I were to completely switch instruments to main the euphonium, I feel like this past 7 years is completely in vain. I have spent thousands of dollars on trombones over the years and it feels like too much just to stop now. What are your thoughts?

Tuba+euph solos??

Weird request… But are there any solo pieces with piano accompaniment that involve playing both the tuba and euphonium?

Help with lung capacity

I'm practicing the grand russian fantasia and I have problems with var 2, I don't have enough air to finish the first phrase in one breath. How can I use air more efficiently? And how can I breath more air?

Looking for a good budget-friendly Euph

I'm getting back into playing euphonium after high school and I need some recommendations on what instrument I should get.

In high school I played a JEP1120 and I'd like to possibly get an instrument with similar specifications. Any suggestions? My budget is currently around 2k

Wessex Festivo Euphonium any good?

Does anyone have experience with the Wessex Festivo euphonium? I might have an opportunity to play and purchase a used one.

I'm planning on using it in a pop/folk band while touring. So it needs to be quite sturdy.

How's the quality of the euphonium? (Is it well build? Is it sturdy and is it resistant to wear of daily use?)

How does it play? (What's the sound like? How's the flow of air? How's the intonation?

I know Chinese brass can be a hit or miss, so I'm trying to gather as much information as possible. As a teacher I've come across a lot of cheap and poorly made wind instruments. I hate to spend money on an instrument that's not going to last.

Second valve slide stuck

Hi all, the second valve slide on my JP247 has gotten extremely hard to move. It's difficult to pull out and put in, and it feels like there's a barrier I have to push past. Is there a simple fix for this, or should I take it into a music shop?

Help me understand the range of the Euphonium

I was briefly part of the percussion section of an open brass band and had some lessons on baritone horn there as well. I didn't have the time to dive into it back then but I cannot get out of my head how satisfying it felt to play that instrument.

I've been toying with the thought of picking up a four valve uncompensated Euphonium (or maybe an Baritone Horn to begin if I can't find a good 2nd hand Euphonium) since then, but I'm still a bit confused about what the range of a four valved instrument really would be. Is there a table/spreadsheet available that I can refer to to understand what notes in the low register are missing and what notes would need to be compensated manually?

(I like chromatic stuff and scales like the hungarian minor that might not align so nicely with the natural harmonic series.)

I wanna learn a brass instrument, is a euphonium a good choice?

Ive been wanting to learn a brass instrument for a while now. I'm not the biggest fan of the trumpet, really, and I think a tuba would be too big for me, so would a euphonium be good?

Best Grad School Instructors for Euphonium

My son is interested in music performance for grad school. He's a senior completing his Music Ed degree. Who is the best professor for grad school? As in, who is the most successful at getting their students a performance job? I know for euph that would mostly be military bands. There are lots of excellent euphonium professors but not sure they are the best instructor.

I want a Euphonium for Christmas (Help)

Hey! I was looking at the reddit (Im looking to buy a euphonium as I want to minor in music in college)

I'm a beginner, but not like brand new, I'm about to reach the intermediate phase but I was wondering what yall would suggest I do for that with a budget around <1500

ik people said the yep 321 is a good intermediate horn but in context of music school I'm unsure. I don't have a large budget, and I realistically dont think I will really get a bigger budget by the time I would even be done with college. Edit: I would need the euphonium to be able to to have payments on it. For instance like 100 a month etc.

Audition Piece Recommendation needed

I am trying out for GHP and in order to get a recommendation from my band director I need to play all 48 scales (major, minor, melodic, harmonic, etc) and a college level repertoire. Any recommendations? I have to learn this piece by Wednesday. Any tips on how to memorize the scales would also help, any tips for anything. 😁

How do I read this double flat?

Key is Eb. So it’s a Bbbb? Does that make it an Ab? That’s how I have been reading it. For reference, the song is “A Quiet Walk” by Andre’ Waignein from Steven Mead: New Concert Studies for Euphonium V1. If it’s supposed to be Ab, why didn’t they score an A? Accidentals are only in effect for the measure they appear in, right?
