Does anyone have tips to play this phrase. My double tonguing is great when i play the rest of the etude but when i get to this part it seems much harder to double tongue. Can anyone help? All region auditions are next week.
Hello! So I went to a University for a music major for a day program and I was given a packet of exercises called daily routines for trombone by David Vining (or something along those lines) and itt has a lot of stuff in it and for the past few days my practicing has looked like: warming up with those exercises, playing almost every single exercise for like an hour and a half, and then a little cool down. Now this doesn't leave time for me to actually play music because by the time I'm done with exercises my brain is so fried I feel like I can't play anymore. I'm gonna go out on a whim and guess that practicing is not supposed to go like that. I play bass bone so a lot of the exercises have been high but that's not really the issue I'm assuming they work just as good for bass as they do tenor. I'm curious if I should warm up, do only like 2 or 3 exercises before practicing actual music before cooling down because I feel like I actually sound better but I don't know. I've also been doing the exercises with a drone and am wondering if that's a good thing to do or not. I apologize for this being kind of all over the place but would appreciate any advice or even other exercises. Thank you!
I keep pressing my mouthpiece onto my teeth and it causes pain in my teeth. My band director said I might need to purchase a new mouthpiece, but I’m not sure which mouthpiece would be good at solving that issue. I don’t mean to press my mouthpiece into my teeth. It’s just something that happens naturally and most of the times I can’t even tell I’m doing it until I take my mouthpiece away from my face. Please help.
Anyone familiar with this methodology? I remember a master class with John Kitzman YEARS ago in my college days but unclear to what the methodology was.
I'm a freshman in high school and I'm looking into getting into bass trombone and I was wondering if anyone knew of a place online that sells them for cheap and in good condition? My price range is about $750-$1000.
I feel like I play with too much pressure and my lips kinda hurt when I play for too long
Any tips for minimizing pressure would be appreciated! Thank you!
Hey does anyone have suggestions for a solo for my HSC, must be composed/arranged after 2001 as I need to perform it towards the end of next year.
I play a King 3B and really love jazz so a contemporary jazz or funk style piece would be good, though preferably written without impro sections.
Alternatively I do like classical so if there are any newish ones that have lots of room for personal expression, that would be perfect.
For both jazz and classical, ideally I need a piece with accompaniment ranging from just a piano to maybe a small rhythm section.
If anyone knows the AMEB system in Australia, I play around grade 7, so above intermediate, my range is Pedal E to comfortably double high C, and am working on increasing that to a comfortable Double high F.
Any suggestions would be much appreciated.
I got this trombone through heritage and stored it for years, but now I am moving house I am looking to get rid of it.
Both the bell and the case display the brand Getzen, but after hours of research I still can't find a matching model.
Any help would be appreciated!
My pbone plastic trombone waterkey’s spring has been really rusty and the waterkey has been leaking. I sqw thwre was some replacements online, however, i do not know how to change the waterkey. Could anyone help with this?
Has anyone ever considered building a bass trombone with two different kinds of valves? For example, rotor F attachment and thayer Gb attachment on the same horn, or any other combination. I feel like this could have some value to specific players, but mainly just curious.
For some reason my playing the past 3 days has been really shaky and out of tune, i have my region auditions this week and can’t have this happen in the room. Please give me some advice on how to fix it
I’ve played trumpet for 14 years, and I have tried low brass occasionally but always struggled to get a good sound. Any tips for my embouchure would be helpful, especially pertaining to how it’s different from a trumpet embouchure.
So I'm wanting to join jazz band and the audition is on Monday and I have to learn a whole like, thing, and then I have to improv my own solo, but I don't know how to, and if I don't, I don't get to be in jazz band. Edit: Thanks to everyone for your contributions to help me out. A couple things I would like to add, the sheet I'm reading off says "blues swing" and I'm in high school with only a couple years of experience under my belt, as I started playing beginning of last year, so about August/September area. Thanks again those who've responded so far
Me and my friends have been hearing about this piece where you put water into your slide and i recently found it but i dont really want to spend 40 bucks on it without knowing what it really sounds like. Anything helps.
I have some "Jean Baptiste Premium Multi Purpose Grease"
Can I safely use this on a valve trombone? Hasnt been oiled in a year or so. It's an H.n. white from the 40s.
I’m planning to buy my own trombone very soon since I’ll be studying music in university next year, and I’m overwhelmed by the options. I primarily play non-classical genres, especially jazz, but I need something that handles the lower register well because I’m not the strongest player in that range. I’m also looking for a versatile mouthpiece suited for jazz. Any advice on what to look for? I’m planning to buy the trombone secondhand and the mouthpiece new, but we’ll see what happens. Thanks!
Anybody have any tips for traveling with a trombone by plane? Is it possible to bring as a carry on, or do you need to check it? Any case advice either way? Thanks!
I've seen mixed - to - negative reviews of Schiller horns, so I'm guessing more of the same. Does anyone have experience with the Schiller Studio line of trombones, specifically the Bb/C trombone?
I'm doing band in school and I've been worrying about my performance. I'm not really sure If I'm okay for where I am or I'm just not where I should be for 4-5 months of playing. How should somebody be playing in this amount of time?
What I notice about my playing: I don't really practice like should and I'm not good at timing. When I play a song I usually know when to play from hearing the song be played instead of looking at the paper. All I can play is some nursury rhymes and a single song (actium by Ann McGinty). I think I'm also not Great with playing clearly
How does one approach the changes in a tune while still feeling free with improvisation choices? Why I ask this is because when I focus on outlining the changes, my mind is limited to how much expression I can do. I feel like the changes sort of put me in a box, which isn't fun. How would one balance using a certain scale and following the changes in a tune?
What are some of your favorite exercises and/or tips for getting better at shakes? My early New Year’s resolution is to get these sounding better, especially in the higher range.
I was doing some slur studies in the Arban book, and my slurs would clip between partials. Anything I can do to make them smooth?,
From Soprano to Alto to Straight Tenor to Trigger Tenor to Bass Single Trigger to Bass Double Trigger to Contrabass Trombone to a Cimbasso. Honestly idc about the single trigger bass or cimbasso but i just wanna see em all.
I'm looking for some intermediate-level books to play over the holidays since I've finished school for the year and have way too much time to waste. my goal for the start of next year is to be able to play with way better technique and control, so recommend whatever books you like. I would really like some good solo repertoire, too, just to keep practice interesting outside of technique (there are only so many interesting pieces on Musescore). I'd rather PDF books, just because they are easier to get to my house than physical ones. Thank you for any recommendations.
