Why a lack of Shell gas stations in Iowa?

More of a lack of "quality" gas stations? A lot of modern cars requires 91-93 octane but Iowa seems to be stuck in the past with 87 or 88. Which is a real bummer when you need to stop for gas and the majority of towns in Iowa only carry 87/88 octane gas station.

The reason why I bring up shell is because they have the best rated fuel and seem to be pretty common everywhere else minus... Iowa.

Don't get me wrong I love Casey's for their pizza but not for their bad gas.

And no its not "gas is gas" a lot of newer vehicles that are supposed to run 91-93 octane will have a hard time running anything below 91. So no it has nothing to do with "expensive" gas.

Iowa History question

I've been looking into my family history ever since covid and I've had some success, but I've recently run into what seems to be conflicting information. My great great grandfather emigrated to the US in 1868. Then all the data I can find indicates he settled with his family in Boone Iowa. His wife gave birth to his first son in 1869. Then they moved to Clay Iowa where two more sons were born 1871 and 1874. However a newspaper article I found recently (a tribute article celebrating his furniture businesses 40th anniversary) gives a history on him where it says that before he started his furniture business he arrived in America and learned about the Pullman Palace car builders when he arrived in New York and "went west and became employed with this concern". It says he worked as a carver/cabinet maker for them for two years. Everything I've seen indicates the family lived in Boone and then Clay.... which had railroad access but I don't see any connection to Pullman cars which seem to be manufactured later in Illinois. Does anyone know what I've missed here?

What types of businesses are currently lacking in Cedar Falls and Waterloo, Iowa?

I'm a 25f entrepreneur looking to start a business in the Cedar Falls/Waterloo area. What do you think the community is missing? I’m brainstorming ideas that would both provide value and make sense for the area.

Where to get dutch letters on I-80?

The family and I are making our yearly trek across the state. I'd like to get some dutch letters for other family members at our pit stops, or deliver them when we stop for Christmas. Is there anywhere I can get dutch letters off of the interstate? I remember there was a gas station in Newton that sold them, but it's been a few years and I don't remember exactly where it is, or if it's still around.

Worst Nightmare for that team out East

Worst case scenario for you guys. We have a younger version of Kirk Ferentz coaching in Ames. We play bland defensive oriented football and it works. 10 wins. Conference championship game for the second time in 5ish years. Will we be favored? Probably not? Isn’t this the same formula that makes Iowa elite? We are your mirror. Are we going to win a Natty if we win the Big 12 championship? Absolutely not. The difference between Iowa and Iowa State fans is that we realize this. We’re not delusional. But this is fun. Iowa State fans will enjoy this more than delusional Iowa fans ever will. We’re proud of our guys. Anything beyond tonight is a bonus.

P.S. We’ll also embarrass you in basketball…

Louie's Wine Dive Deception

Louie's Wine Dive is running a promotion where they offer a "$10 Bucks" certificate along with the purchase of a $50 Gift Certificate. They very prominently tell you the $10 will expire on 2/11/25, but they do not tell you the $10 cannot be used until 1/1/25 in the promotional material nor on the certificate itself. We bought a gift certificate the Wednesday before Thanksgiving and found we could not use the $10 Bucks on Saturday the 30th. Huge disappointment. To make matters worse, while the wait staff without exception is friendly, considerate and genuinely interested in making the visit a pleasant experience, the manager is rude and downright snotty.
