Going to be new to the Cedar Rapids area this spring. We have a young family, and my husbands job will be near the airport. Looking at Fairfax area. Thoughts on this? Where do young families like to live?
Also any advice for us as new residents to the CR area is appreciated!
Pretty self explanatory. The wheels are for a 2022 Volvo S60.
Does anyone train here? Looking for a solid powerlifting gym, and this gym is about 4 minutes from my house. Little confused on the Catholic context of it. If someone could enlighten me, I would appreciate it! Thanks!
Hey y’all,
I have a backpack that I’ve been using for a few years (since college), and the material itself is totally fine, but there are a couple zippers on it that have gotten pretty rough—Like to the point where it’ll randomly open and throw stuff on the ground.
Is there anyone around who could teach me how to sew a couple new zippers on? Aside from my backpack, it’s also just one of those life skills that I’d like to at least have a basic knowledge of.
Thanks!
Any good places for steak in or around Cedar Rapids?
Looking for a hand specialist due to some painful trigger finger. I assume I’ll need surgery but a cortisone shot will suffice for now. Both PCI and Iowa are booked for two months. Any recommendations or suggestions on a hand specialist in the area?
I think my dog needs several teeth pulled and I need an honest answer from some vets in town. Our dog is older over 10 years old and has been to vet and we were told he would have to have several teeth removed. He’s been throwing up and not really eating anything but he’s drinking water. Financially we are afraid several teeth pulled will be so expensive and we don’t know if it’s worth it or to put dog down? Does anyone know what we’re looking at for cost? I have a vet appointment this week but wanted to know cost ahead of time from other professionals in town.
If anyone knows let me know
I'm planning a wedding and I want to get married Infront of a willow tree. I'm wondering if there's any public areas with those kind of trees in the area.
Anyone recommend a contractor in CR that’s good with micro cement in residential interiors? Looking to do a bathroom renovation.
What's your kmb horror stories ?
Hello, so I am expecting a mail peice from a company that is fairly important too me. It was mailed first class letter on Sat. Jan 18th, now first class mail takes 1-5 buisness days. Assuming that's Mon-Fri, factoring in MLK days I should have recived it the 25th, maybe the 27th at the latest. I talked to USPS and they said they are having issues with their sorting machine downtown, but I've been getting my other normal mail just fine for the past couple weeks. I talked to the sender as well and they mentioned they could verified it was picked up by USPS. Anyone else been having problems, if so, how far behind was tour mail? I'm on the NE side btw
I'm trying to learn Spanish and I want to get more comfortable speaking Spanish. I took two years in University, but I honestly hardly remember any of it now. So, any clubs that are free (or low cost)?
I currently work at St.Lukes hospital. I feel like there's no room for growth and management plays favorites. Any other phlebotomists in other locations LIKE their work environment and/or feel like they are well paid (with growth opportunities)?
I'm a millennial who wants to skate again.
In March after 29 years.
Hey Cedar Rapids!
I’m looking to connect with fellow young and middle-aged entrepreneurs in the area. Whether you’re running a startup, a small business, or just have an entrepreneurial mindset, let’s meet up, share ideas, and build a strong local network.
It’d be great to make friends, exchange experiences, and maybe even collaborate on something awesome. If you're interested, drop a comment or DM me! Let’s grow together.
P.S. I’m brown—starting to realize that it matters for some, lol. I’m open to connecting with anyone with empathy. 😄
TIA!
I’m hoping to get some help/tips or advice about the water quality and water pressure here in Marion since we’ve lived here. This is a new construction home we are renting off of Quail Trail and we love it. However we’ve noticed that hot water is cloudy for 30 seconds before it seems to clear up, is this normal for the area? Or is it just because of the water heater and what not all being brand new?
We also cannot get good water pressure! This is the most frustrating thing as taking a shower is not a fun time. We have a decent size walk in shower and me and my fiancé shower together but on full blast the water only sprays (more like trickles) out far/well enough for one person to have it and that person kinda has to huddle close to the shower head wall to get under the flow. We tried buying a new shower head and that didn’t much or anything, so we looked it up and ended up removing restrictive plate in the shower head and that helped a tiny bit, but it’s still honestly so bad and we don’t know what else to do or try..
Anyone have experience using Hometown for a big remodel project? If so, how did it go?
i saw somebody made a post about this 7 months ago, but lots of the places mentioned now don’t exist or don’t carry those desserts anymore.
which spots in town have the best desserts? looking for from-scratch, not frozen garbage from PFG. bonus points if it’s not ridiculously sweet. i love a good crème brûlée, raspberry is my favorite flavor, and i don’t mind a big portion that i can take home.
TIA!
Hey just made a CedarRapidsIaFriends group. Open for members.
I don’t get out anywhere near what I use to. Does anyone know of bars or places to watch events on ESPN+. Thanks for the input.
So im a (m)(18), and I moved here not too long ago. I’m going to Kirkwood, and i honestly need people to talk to from Kirkwood. My big problem as of now, is I can’t seem to find any footing in talking to people. Any tips or people able to help me break out of my fear?
Okay so here's my deal. I am a hairdresser. In this industry, in order to work full-time, you have to work nights and weekends typically in order to be full-time. I am a single parent and when my kids aren't in school or daycare I'm at work. I do not have anybody to watch them later. I still don't make enough to pay for child care so I rely on state assistance with this. However, now I don't work enough hours in order to actually qualify for assistance. I'm looking for a part-time job so I can still qualify one day a week. I know that's kind of a hard ask but it's the only way I can continue to do the job that I have done for 10 years. Any job that I get I will take seriously and do the to the best of my ability. Does anybody know anywhere I could go? I know this is a lot, but I am literally panicked because the renewal date is vastly approaching where I have to have my information filled out.
Hello CR,
We are a household with cats and dogs (and fish), we currently have two female cats both under 3yrs and a 13wk puppy. In the last year we lost both our teenaged (13+yr) dog and cat… been a rough one. We have successfully fostered 3 adult bully’s and 7 puppy’s in the last 3 years. So, we have had quite a few vet trips in this time as well. We started going out to Anamosa because of the savings and quality of care. However, through our time out there we are ready to move our business elsewhere… it would be nice to find something closer to home as well. I am not posting to slam this office, just seeking a new office.
So CR what vet offices would you recommend for a home with pitbulls and cats? SE side residents, but side of town is not an issue, 15 minutes outside of town max. Not looking for any grooming, just health care for the pets.
Hi Cedar Rapids!
This is the team from the upcoming locally produced film, From Iowa and Back: The Vietnam Era.
For those who haven't heard about the film or what we are seeking to achieve, this project is the personal mission of one Cedar Rapids native filmmaker, Jeremy Glazier, in his mission to document the real stories of Iowa veterans, their experiences during the Vietnam war era, and the Iowa they returned to. the project is now featuring support from Brucemore's Artisan Studio, here in Cedar Rapids and has already released a "short film" version of the upcoming feature film
Today we are asking for your help in preserving these stories. We are in need of photography from that era, pictures of veterans, their lives, of Iowa during the Vietnam era (preferably between 1963-75), and any local touches to be used in the film. Any photos provided can be credited in the final film which will premier in a special event at Brucemore, on Vietnam Veterans Day later this year.
If you have any photography, video, family photos, stories, or want to learn more about the project please reply, and share this with friends and family. We would love to get Cedar Rapids' support behind this project, and if you have any questions please reach out.
This is an awesome opportunity and moment for us to collectively reflect on the unheard stories before they are gone from us.
