Just saw this https://www.instagram.com/p/C2L0EzDtA8i/?igsh=c3JybHo4ejE5MnI4 (im late to the game) and am wondering if anyone knows more about it? Is it going to be a restaurant?
Has anyone else seen this? Extremely disturbing and alarming to see this from my town, on a street I frequent.
wondering if anyone knows if the local brood of cicadas have started to emerge…. i am scared of them (i know they’re harmless) and plan to avoid super naturey spots when they come out
First time purchasing tickets to anything major at Hancher, looking for seating advice. Would orchestra row B center be terribly close? Chicago is a bucket list performance and would love to see it locally, just concerned about poor views being so close! Thanks in advance!
Anyone know if there’s any pro Palestine events, marches sit ins protests etc going on coming up? I know the weather this weekend doesn’t help ):
does anyone know of any person/place that does lamp rewiring? I have a 50s-60s hurricane lamp that I would love to have fixed.
Hi all,
First time home buyers. We just got accepted and need an inspector. Does anyone know people who are thorough?
Hi everyone, i’m writing a research paper for a class in community engagement about what gaining citizenship is like in Iowa City and i’m looking for some personal experiences to include. Any information is welcome and helpful!
Message me. Striking out on indeed.
I’m down to two options in housing while working in the dental school. Both apartments are identical in what I want in a unit. One apartment is across the street and $1300 and the other is 1.4 miles away but $1000. Parking is a hassle at the dental school so I know I’d have to walk the 1.4 miles or take the bus. Is walking in the dark safe in Iowa city? Should I save some money and pick the cheaper apartment (I do love to walk, it’s a stress reliever for me) or should I pay a little more for convenience?
Wasn't sure if this was a good place to post this, but I didn't know where else I could post it. Feel free to offer suggestions if there's a better place to post this.
I got laid off at the beginning of the month, so I'm moving back home in May and looking for someone to take over the lease for my apartment.
It's a great place, price ($1235 for a 3 br/2 bath with a large porch and 2 car garage, internet included) and location (North Liberty, a few minutes away from exit 4 I-380, very walkable neighborhood), and the lease would start mid-may so the rent would be pro-rated for that month.
If you want further information, it's being rented through KMB Property Managed
Hey, wanted to share a site that I put together listing local social dance events: https://danceiowacity.com/
If you have a Google calendar you'd like to feed into the site, shoot me a private message. You can also add an event yourself by clicking on the hamburger menu in the top left and then clicking "Add an Event" (the event will appear after an admin approves).
Also, a personal plug - there is a swing dance social on April 30th at the Greenhouse. Come for the free beginner lesson, then stick around for a drink or dancing.
Hi all! Looking for places to go see flowers in springtime :) Tulip fields etc. I overheard my coworker talking about some place but was too anxious to ask her where.
Nothing is wrong with it but I saw another story about how this summer is expected to be hot (https://imgur.com/gallery/oXi5gwO) and realized in the 3 years I hve lived here we haven't had regular maintenance on the air conditioner.
Anyone have a particular company the recommend or ones to avoid?
My elderly mother is moving to IC and needs a place to stay near the center of town for a couple of months while she arranges permanent housing (sometime around July-August). AirBnB is insanely expensive. Any recommendations?
My wife and I enjoy the Wednesday night Trivia at The Sanctuary bar but for the last two weeks they haven’t been able to serve any alcohol. Apparently something got messed up with renewing their license. HOW DOES THAT EVEN HAPPEN??
Brass Ring Coffee is doing another tasting at Tru Coffee this Saturday and will be there in person to chat about coffee! Great way to start your weekend.
Hi All,
Before I jump in, want to note that I have no issues with underserved communities or the homeless population in IC or in general. I’m not sure what kind of feedback this post will generate, but I want to be clear that I am not looking for people to hop on and disparage vulnerable communities, so if that’s your take, look elsewhere.
My husband and I bought a home on the East side not too long ago, and in the past 2 months, we’ve had two uncomfortable late night experiences, and we’re wondering if this is something that other folks are dealing with. About 6 weeks ago, while we were both asleep, a woman in a black hood rapidly and loudly knocked on our side door at 3:30 am. I woke up first and wasn’t sure what was happening as I was a little groggy - and of course didn’t know who was at the door. She aggressively knocked again, at which point I came to, realized what time it was and what was happening, and called out to my husband (I fell asleep on the couch). He came out and slowly made his was over to the door as she was still knocking. As he looked out of our window, she popped over and started beckoning him outside. He asked her what he needed and she kept beckoning rapidly, so he told her he was sorry but that she needed to leave. We were both conflicted about our reactions, but ultimately decided we needed to prioritize our safety, and it left us pretty rattled.
FF to the other night. I had just fallen asleep and it was about 11:45pm. We hear another loud aggressive knock on the door. This one also jerks me awake. My husband who was up decided to wait and see if they would leave, but the person doubled down and rapidly and aggressively knocked again. when he asked who it was, the man respondned that his name was "X" and that he was homeless and looking for some change. Again, due to the time of night and situation, my husband told him no and asked him not to come back.
While we’re both understanding people and we try to support the community where and when we can, both of these incidents have really taken us by surprise and left us pretty uncomfortable, mostly due to the time of night that they’re occurring. I’m sure most people would agree that uninvited visitors in the middle of the night can be both alarming and unwelcome.
We’re wondering if other people are having the same issue, or maybe it’s just us given our home’s proximity to businesses that are open through the night. Either way, thoughts on how to approach this in a reasonable way would be greatly appreciated.
I've never had hardwood floors done and would like to get someone reputable that will do a good job.
Hello everyone,
I recently bought a house in IC, and I'm looking for the best bars downtown to meet women as a single male who is currently 30. I'm on countless dating apps, but so far, no fruits of my labors have borne fruit.
I’m looking to get my nails done before a big trip. I usually do them myself so I’m not familiar with local nail salons. Any recommendations for someone that is good and can do decently detailed designs?
What type of restaurant/cuisine is the area missing or what type do we need more of?
I’m familiar with Cedar Ridge and Reunion. Are there any others? Thanks!
