Morning Des Moines. What’s the best place to send your kid for SAT prep? I know there’s sylvan, but are there better?

Manhattan Deli appreciation post

I only lived in DSM for two years and have since moved to KC. But whenever I’m in the area, I make a point to stop by Manhattan Deli and get the Popper. Probably my favorite sandwich. (If anyone happens to know a sammy that comes close to it in KC, I would be forever in your debt)

Free Clinics

Where and who are the free clinics in Des Moines who won’t judge me for showing up with an…umm…issue of the scrotum? I’m broke with no insurance but need a diagnosis so I can get the anti-fungals come next paycheck. Rather not fuck up a free clinic nurse’s whole day if a different free clinic is more open to genital healthcare.

It’s not an STD but is definitely involved in the parts in which STDs enjoy

Roommates/Apartments

I’m gonna be moving into my first apartment soon and I was hoping to find a roommate to help with rent costs. How does one find a roommate? Des Moines is a big city (at least to me) and there’s gotta be someone I’d get along with (and they’d get along with me) that also wants a roommate right now, but I’m not sure how to find someone.

Also is there any places I need to avoid? Like I know some sides of Des Moines aren’t great, but are there some I should avoid at all costs?

Used/free medical equipment - paraplegic

I have a family member that recently became paralyzed from waist down. Coming home soon (was in hospital out of state). Looking to see if there are any organizations that have free/used equipment: shower chairs, toilet chairs, bed rails, etc. Overwhelmed and trying to see what assistance, if any, is here locally. Thanks.

Does anyone know if this is a scam or real company?

A salesman just came up and asked if I own my house, I said no and I’m just renting. He asked if I could forward the message that this roofing job would be free due to the recent storm that we had, if my landlord agreed. From previous roofing experience throughout the Midwest I’m unsure if this is a scam and the man I talked to is a storm chaser or someone who prays on insurance companies taking the load of the cost minus the deductible. When I looked up the LLC I couldn’t find anything

If any of you have had your house or rental house worked on by this guy please let me know

I’m currently in the northwest dsm area if this helps

Graziano Sausage new recipe?

Anyone else notice their Italian sausage is a lot spicier than it used to be. I swear the last couple years it’s felt like they’ve increased the red pepper ratio in their sausage. I like spicy food don’t get me wrong, it’s just a lot spicier than I remember and it overpowers any dish we use it with.

Missing cat

Goober went missing near Valley Junction in West Des Moines. He's usually indoor only so we're quite worried, I've posted everywhere else I can think of, if you see him please message me. He's incredibly friendly and will approach most people. Loves food.

Electronic repair shops that do game consoles?

Howdy!

Was looking to see if anyone knows any repair shops that'll do game consoles. My dad has a ps4 and I'm pretty confident the HDMI port on it is cooked and was looking to see if there was any local options before seeing about sending it somewhere.

Thanks for any help!

Looking for bands to play in Des Moines on 6/19

Hi! I'm a booker for a alt/midwest emo group out of Milwaukee. They are going to be in Des Moines on 6/219. I found a good amount of venues to reach out to, but I like having at least one local on board before doing so. Any suggestions?

Thank ya so much!

Kim signed HF2605, which effectively kills the Iowa consumable hemp industry. I believe it's obvious by now that she does not care about the people in this state.

Looking for Apartments (close to DMUCOM

Hi guys, I am planning on moving to Des Moines this summer to start med school. I was looking for apartment recommendations based on where you guys have lived. My budget is around $1500 for a 1 or 2 bedroom apartment. Looking for something with as many bells and whistles as possible, and furnished would be a plus, but not necessary. Looking for something within a 20 minute drive of DMUCOM. Will definitely look into any recommendations you guys can offer

Swimming Lessons for Kids

Hey, everyone! I was curious if anyone has any recommendations for swim lessons for kindergarten aged kids in the Des Moines area. I see that the city has a program, but I imagine there is more. Mostly want to know if there is anywhere that people had a bad experience, so that I can avoid that.

Thanks!

Adventureland Season Pass Free Friend Ticket question

This is a pretty specific question. I got the Adventureland season pass for this year, which includes 3 free guest passes. I feel like I saw something on the website a few weeks ago saying that I could not use these free guest passes on the first visit, but now I cannot find it on the website, so I am wondering if that policy is still in effect.

I would like to go with my wife on opening day Saturday if we can. Do any season pass holders or people with Adventureland insider info know whether I will be able to get her into the park on Saturday?
