Been dealing with what is essentially a divorce to the woman of my dreams and things have just been all around chaotic and stressful then some fuckin idiots pull this, Wonder if they thought I was joking when I showed them the knife.... dont fuck with my house or my wife or my livelihood.

Paddy’s cover charge?

Anyone have a ballpark or know how much Paddy’s cover charge will be tonight around 10? I’ve never done the bar crawl before.

Just get cancer

We been breathing in 4.5x the recommended levels of Radon in our basement for 7 years, so we decided to get a mitigation system. I think I would’ve taken the cancer. The fan is outside our bedroom window so now there’s a constant guttural whirring in that room. In our finished basement there’s now a massive pipe running along the wall right behind the TV and next to the couch which is our main family room, which also produces a constant high pitched whirring. Now this is life, forever. I could have done a better job understanding the ways this system was going to be an impact; I was naive, ignorant (and frankly, very busy), so I didn’t ask enough questions. My mindset was “I need to do it, so whatever it’s going to be is what it’s going to be.” Well, I should have been more careful about understanding the pipe routing and fan placement, and maybe they could have done something else. I felt like I was only given one option, if I had better understood what I was buying I might have been able to avoid this. I guess this is a PSA to either stick with breathing the Radon (minimal increase in cancer risk) or really research how the system works and make a more detailed plan with your contractor to ensure it doesn’t negatively impact your main living spaces.

Places to study

Moved to Ames in July and looking for places to read/study (preferably open 24/7). I’ve been going to the Ames library but they are only open for 12 hours during the weekdays/9 hours on Saturday/4 hours on Sunday. Can anyone use the ISU libraries despite not being a student? Are there any other good spots you guys like? Thanks.

Best Apartment Complexes? Where To Stray Away?

Hi Everyone-

My partner and I are looking to move to Ames sometime in May, but understand we might have to push it back to August. We're struggling to find something that isnt solely student catered. I am a student that will be starting, however he is not. We're looking for a traditional lease. What are some good recommendations and where not to rent?

Best gym for a cheap day pass?

Title. Last time I was in town this summer visiting family I went with a friend to Ames racquet and a day pass cost me $30! That’s insane for one day imo. I’ll be around the whole week of thanksgiving and looking for somewhere I can get a cheaper day or week long pass. Let me know if you have any suggestions. Thanks!

Neonazi in Menards

I'm stunned, I know there's some real assholes in town but overall I thought Ames was a safe place. But holy shit, this weekend while I was at Menards, a woman was called a slur by a dude tatted out with nazi symbols on his calfs. I'm talking swastikas, that one rune, the eagle, all of it. Not even subtle.

Be careful out there. Especially if you're a minority.

Edit: friend was able to take a pic of his legs outside, asked him to send it to me since there are understandable skeptics

AFC Alternatives

I go to Ames Fitness Center North and it has gone down hill very quickly. The staff is great but the owner rented out part of the space to a private business which has led to the remaining space feeling very cramped. This coincides with a rate hike in August. Also, I recently found out the owner nuked a local effort to get a publicly owned space which would have been dope. Anyway, what are the alternatives? Planet Fitness? My spouse works as a staff person at ISU. Am I eligible for State Gym? Any advice or recommendations would be greatly appreciated.

Rentals for non-students that allow dogs?

I'm moving to Ames for work next month and I'm trying to find housing that is not full of undergrads that will allow my 75 pound dog. I'm having a really hard time finding anything just through internet searches. What are the good leasing companies that will be able to work with me?

And what are the parts of town that tend to attract the most students? I'm old enough that I'm not really interested in living right in among a bunch of undergrads or close to party spots. Any advice will be helpful because I'm not going to be able to get down there to apartment hunt before I move.

Telephone pole for zip line

Hello. Building a low zip line for the kids in my backyard. I have one giant tree as the starting anchor but I'll need to build the receiving anchor. I've read a wood post in concrete should be at least 12" in diameter. Anyone know if or where I could get a telephone pole in Ames? Or other ideas on securing that large of a post? Thanks!
