Hi! I live at Aspire and will be moving out in May. Looking for someone to take for my lease/renew. Anyone interested? I live in a 2x2. Rent for bedroom is $813. Parking $25/month. Wifi, water, trash removal is included. Just have to pay electricity. In unit washer and dryer.
I’m going to be a student this fall and staying in the dorms. My roommate and I were hoping to be in Burge, but my housing lottery number is in the 3000s and hers is in the lower 2000s (we filled out the app the day it opened and got stuck with bad numbers). What are the chances we will get Burge? If the chances are pretty low, what other dorm will have the space along with the good social life of Burge? Thanks!
I am committed to Iowa for the fall of 2024, I got accepted with a 3.7 gpa and a 32 ACT, but right now I am failing ap seminar and won’t be able to raise my grade. It’s one of my graduation recruitments, so I’ll have to take summer school. Am I definitely going to have my offer rescinded, or is there anything I can do to prevent this? Any advice would be greatly appreciated.
Has anyone taken the online class, Intro to Educating Gifted Students with Lange? Just trying to figure out the feel for it. Thanks!
Hello all!
I will be at IU this summer for research, and have the option to live in RISE or Aspire apartments. RISE I would prefer as I could live in a studio, where my Aspire option is with an apartment-mate. I am not a drinker or partier, so I am worried that RISE might be too loud, smell like weed, or have many parties. Has anyone been there over the summer, or can speak to what the environment is like?
What’s up everyone, I’m gonna be a freshman at Iowa next semester and I pick my dorm in June. I think I have a pretty good lottery number (in the 800s) but I know its unlikely that I’ll get Catlett. From what I’ve seen, burge or daum would be the next best options. I’m wondering what everyone thinks is the better building between the two and for what reasons. Thank you so much, go hawks!
A little backstory. I’ve been working at the University for almost 4 years as my full time iob. A little while in, I decided that I wanted to go back to graduate school. I did my masters before this and several credits transferred, etc. so I’m planning to graduate with my PhD in December after about 3.5 years.
My situation was interesting in that unlike a normal GRA, I stayed full time employed at my other job the whole time. So I’m working 40 hour weeks at my job and in the lab after work hours, probably working close to 70 hour weeks. I get paid through my full time job and not as a grad student (I don’t get a stipend on top of my job). So essentially, I only get tuition paid for by my PI’s grant and nothing extra on the grad student side of things.
I’m thinking about going down to 80% employment - working 4, 8-hour days, next semester so I can have a full day every week dedicated to my graduate work.
My question for part time employees or HR is, what is the difference like in health insurance for full time employees vs part time? I.e. how would my insurance be impacted if I went from 100% to 80%?
I don’t want to pay for parking for the entire year and my apartment complex is selling it for $70 a month for the full year. My apartment is in Iowa city so it would have to be in the area. So does anyone know a cheaper way to pay for parking on a more monthly basis.
Hi everyone! I was recently admitted to Iowa Law and am heavily leaning toward attending in the fall. I have looked through all the emails I was sent from Iowa and can't find anything talking about an official online group (whether it's Facebook or something else) for admitted students. Does anyone know if there is an official group and possibly provide me with a link or another way to join? Thanks so much!
This is going to sound absolutely ridiculous, but when I applied to UIowa in the fall, I declared an English major even though I was stuck between majoring in Psych and Biology as well. After this school year and taking some more classes related to biology and psych, I think that I may want to purse a career in medicine, maybe like psychiatry. I guess my question is how easy is it really to transfer into a Pre-Med program after declaring my major in nothing medicine related previously?
I'm such an indecisive person when it comes to big decisions.
Hi! As move-out day for this semester is coming soon, I was wondering about Storage Squad, the university affiliated storing company. Does anyone have any experiences or thoughts regarding it? If they keep stuff nicely, or are there other better options available?
As the title suggests I will attending next fall, will it be enough to live on near the campus and will I be able to afford life expenses without family support?
Thank you.
Hi! I’m a new transfer student coming in the next fall semester. I have been accepted to the arts LLC and I am also getting a private dorm due to medical reasons, I’m pretty sure the LLC is in burge and I was just wondering what a private room in burge looks like. As I am 20 I most likely will be having my boyfriend/guests over and want to buy a futon but I’m not sure if I will have room for it. If you have a private room in burge I would be so appreciative for a photo just so I can get an idea of how big it is and if I will have room for the futon! Thanks! Go Hawkeyes!
Does anyone know about how long it takes to get a prereq special permission form approved?
Hi,
I have been offered admission to University of Iowa Masters of Computer Science program. Can you guys help me understand more about the program such as workload, job prospects/placements and living keeping in mind I will be an international student. Any suggestion, review or feedback are welcome.
Thanks Alot in advance 😊
I am going back to school this Fall, but I’ve applied to so many apartments and houses and heard nothing back. My boyfriend has a 4th degree theft charge from right after he turned 18. Mistakes were made and learned from. It’s been over 4 years since then, but I have a feeling this is why we keep getting denied housing. Does anyone know of any pet friendly (dog & cat) places to rent or companies to rent from that would accept him with this charge? (In need of 2+ bedrooms as we are the current guardians of my younger brother.)
This might be a little niche but I plan on moving to Chicago after graduation this May and I am worried about how to bring all my things down there in hopefully one big trip.
Did anyone use a moving service that was relatively cheap (I know moving across state lines won't be dirt cheap but hopefully not a lot of fees or anything) to move from the IC area to Chicago + your experience? I would be taking my mattress and deconstructed bed frame but will be purchasing all other furniture there so it would just be a lot of boxes + the mattress and frame.
Thanks for any help!
i mainly need literary visual and performing arts & historical perspectives, anything easy to do?? I need the A's
Hi all, I'm an incoming grad student with no knowledge of the campus area. Just curious as to what (if any) places to avoid if I'm just looking for quiet and safe (i.e. low crime and partying). Thanks!
Hi I am considering transferring to Iowa as a junior this fall. I’m gonna be in the creative writing major and the school just seems worth it to me for the program alone. I’m pretty nervous about transferring in though, is it easy to make friends on such a big campus? If you’re not the frat/sorority type is it hard to fit in? I’m gay and have never lived in the Midwest before so I’m a little apprehensive. Any info would be appreciated!
I’m going to Iowa this fall and my housing lottery number was not the best I don’t think (4800ish). Is there any dorm that is significantly worse than others? Or is the standard for all of them pretty good?
I’m an incoming freshman and got directly admitted into tippie. I have a 1330 sat, 3.98 W and 3.6 UW gpa. The gpa cutoff for direct admission is 3.6. After this semester, my UW gpa will likely dip below 3.6, will this affect my direct admit status? Or am I ok because I already got accepted?
Hey, upcoming freshman here, I was looking at the website for hillcrest and noticed that quads aren't listed on the website despite it being on the rates for this current year. Do the quads just not exist now? Specifically, the one with a kitchen.
I'm taking a one credit, Unsatisfactory/satisfactory LLS class just for fun, but have to miss a few classes to study for other exams. Will I be fine if I get an "Unsatisfactory" grade? It's not required at all, I just took it for something fun to do.
Heyy guys! Decided to make an Iowa Law group chat for the class of 2027.

I’m graduating in May and was thinking about getting a couple photos taken around campus. Anyone know a photographer that would do a short session for $150-$300?
Hi all! I will be an incoming DMA student starting in the fall, and I'm looking at places to stay. Anyone have opinions on either aspire West campus or the Quarters? Or does anyone have any reccomendations either to look for or stay away from? I'm looking at possibly moving in May, if anyone has any leads on subleases, that would be cool too! (Sorry for the long post, I'm trying to sort things out rather quickly)
Hello!
As the title states, I wanted to know how the housing system works at UI.
From what I understand, housing is available at several resident halls/dorms in the Fall and Spring semesters, however housing closes on the last day of classes. After looking at the academic timetable, it would appear that exams are conducted after the last day of classes, where do students stay in that event?
Additionally, as a Business Admit, I understand that it would be beneficial to be in the East Neighbourhood. Which halls are usually preferred by business and finance students? Which would be a better choice for the cost?
Lastly, I can see a break of about 3 months between May and August in the Housing Contract. Is this the equivalent of a summer vacation?
Thank you for your time and helping me out :)
