What about my friend do?

Hi, my friend who is in uk was scammed from person lives in egypt

He told him that he has investment opportunity in egyptian stocks and he has been contacting him for long time so they knew each other well.

After sending the money which was around 2000$(dollars) they kept contact for long time then he told him he can't send the money back due to problem happened.

So assuming he is scammer, is there any thing my friend in uk can do to get his money back or sue that person in egypt and if there is any, it will cost approximately more than 2000$?

Or nothing he can do and he just have to accept it and move on?

What’s your Snack Bowl of choice?

What are your at home snack of choice when settling down for a movie?

I usually get a large bowl and fill it with:

Crisps - Tyrell’s or Walkers sweet chilli

Popcorn - Butterkist sweet and salty

Chocolate - Maltesers and M&M peanut or crispies.

Drink - ice cold Coke Zero or Rubicon Mango.

Curious as to what others have, so I can mix it up.

Suggest away 👀

Have I been bribed at a club for money?

Context: Last night I went out clubbing with a few mates. A week prior to this I was at a different club with other mates and one of the girls we were with went exploring so I went with her so she didn’t lose herself from the group. I ended up following her into the staff room, her being pretty impulsive saw a bottle of alcohol on a table and took it (this happened within about 10 seconds). We got back to the dance floor and she started passing it round and Ill be honest I had drank a bit from it too. I had seen a CCTV camera in the staff room so I decided to take the bottle back in which there were 3 staff member questioning me so I said I didn’t know, I told them I didn’t want to make a deal of it so I bought it back and before anyone got in trouble I told my group to all leave in which we did.

Problem: So yesterday as I said I was out with different mates at a different club pretty close in terms of location to the other one. As I got to the entrance where they check my ID a bouncer who had been eyeing me pulled me aside and then pushed me into a back room alone with 4 security guards, one of them who said they were the head of security and also the club owner. They told me they were going to call the police despite the fact I told them I personally didn’t take the bottle and I know CCTV caught that I didn’t. I was more worried because I had drunk from the bottle which was stupid of me but at the time I was drunk and was not thinking straight. I said I did not want the police involved and they said it’s either that or I pay for the bottle, in which the guy said £65 originally and then switched up his price to £75. One of them also told me that cameras caught me taking the bottle however I know I did not. They threatened to ban me from all clubs in the area as well so I decided to pay. It is important to mention that I returned the bottle and a small fraction of it had been drunk maybe about 1/8th. I also felt pressured to pay since I was alone surrounded by 4 bigger guys than me so I didn’t feel like I was in a position to not pay.

Is there anything that can be done about this or am I in the wrong too?

Why are Heinz beans the go to beans?

Turns out Heinz aren't even a British company, and their beans now taste far inferior to branston beans which are British. Also how do you make your beans on toast, I like 2 pieces of heavily buttered bread, pepper in the beans whole tin, little bit of siracha and 2 fried eggs. Delish

What annoying song have you currently got stuck in your head?

For some reason and I don’t know how as I haven’t heard it anywhere recently I have Get Low by Lil Jon & the East Side Boyz.

All that keeps playing in my head is:

To the window to the wall, till the sweat drop down my balls, till all these bitches crawl

What annoying songs have you got stuck in your heads?

Does anyone know of a place somewhere in England that teaches Shaolin full-time?

I want to find out if there is any place in England that is a full-time 24/7 place where I can become a Shaolin disciple, maybe a 5 days a week thing, a place that teaches everything, as tough as they do it in China, literally everything the same way that its done in China, not something softer or something that doesn't teach everything.

There is one thing that I must mention, I am a minor, so if anyone does know of a place, please take into consideration that I'm not an adult

How do I tell my boss I struggle with working on Saturdays?

I'm based in the UK and have started a job in October of last year which is a full time job stretched over a 4 day week (Wednesday-Saturday) and I really enjoy it. My boss and the team are great and but there is only one downside which has been starting to affect me quite a bit mentally which is working on Saturdays. I'm aware my contracted days include working on saturday's as the workspace needs people to cover on that day and I'm sharing it with a colleague of mine while the rest of the team work Tuesday-Friday.

Ofter the past couple of months I realised how I barely have time with my partner anymore (whose working Mon-Fri and I'm just not seeing my partner or friends very much since I only have Sunday daytime for activities since everyone is at work from Monday onwards. As we are now moving towards the next chapter in our lives which is buying a house, the saturdays at work become increasingly difficult to manage as I cant go on houseviewings etc. or attend laywer appointments. I dont really know how to bring up the conversation with my boss because I dont want to disappoint her or make her think I am not commited, but even more than that, I dont want to leave my job because of this. How would you suggest I best approach this topic?

Thank you in advance!

Why isnt sow used as an insult ?

If cow and bitch are used as insults why isnt sow? Surely being called she pig is worsw than being called she dog or she cattle. I get ewe wouldnt work as it sounds like you.

Plenty of pig based insults exist. Like poker, pignaramous, fat pig, house like q pig stye, boar ect. So why not sow?

What is the cheapest way to travel from Bath to Edinburgh?

Going up to Edinburgh on the 21st to 23rd of Feb. Looking at either flights/train, both are £200+. Anybody know of a cheaper way to get there. I am aware that I have looked at this a bit late, but I usually book Ryanair flights a couple weeks in advance and they are not that expensive. Thanks.

Does it smell really bad next to an animal farm?

I’m looking to buy a countryside house, found a perfect one but it’s surrounded by sheep, I’ve also seen a sign for a cow farm. Will it smell really bad? 24/7 or only sometimes? What is the smell exactly, is it when they collect the manure? Sorry if these are stupid questions I know nothing about agriculture

Can i be a legal guardian as a 19 year old for a 16 year old in a Premier Inn?

This will be my first time staying in a Premier inn hotel. I (19 YEARS) was just about to book, when I read that a person under 18 MUST have a parent or legal guardian with them or else they cannot be there. I'm travelling with my cousin (16 YEARS) , and I was wondering how I should go on about this? As a 16 year old you count as an adult while travelling and you generally dont need any documents from your parents. Is there anything I can do to prove that i'm travelling with her, like a note from her parents or a call to their center? I am really scared that I would get in trouble - it would be a shame as it is a nice hotel.

What can Britain do to “bring back childhood”?

I’m sat in a soft play with my two kids daydreaming about how different their childhood is to my own. They lead very organised, very safe, hopefully happy lives but there is no risk, they barely get the chance fall out with friends and make up, there’s zero adventure or surprise.

With a rise in poor mental health in young people, I’m worried that I’m not providing the tools they need to navigate being a teenager and young adult. Parenting feels largely based on fear and assessed risk and it might be hurting us.

I guess, in my soft play inspired boredom, I’m asking, what can we do to change things and should we?

Why are dentists opposed to digital booking systems?

Inspired by the thread on GP appointments.

pre the pandemic my dentist (who is part of a nationwide chain) offered digital bookings for first appointments and checkups.

now they only offer phone appointments over the phone again

edit:for clarity thr surgery i use has 27 dentists and the chain has over 100 surgeries

Would you have any recommendations for British made boots?

I'm looking to buy a new pair of boots. Preferably lace ups but long lasting and British made. I've been looking at Lanx and Solovair, leaning more towards Lanx but the nearest shop is hour and half away. I've duck feet so would prefer to try on first or rely on recommendations on here. Cheers!

Edit: Apologies, should have included this in the original post. More everyday boots than walking boots and regarding budget, I don't mind splashing out if they fit well, look decent and last.

How can I create a large boundary fence? (Scotland)

My home (a new build, 2 year old) has a sloping garden to the rear, the garden backs on to a semi-industrial site (it's a warehouse for an auction house) and I want to block the view the best I can. The industrial yard is a flat area with no vehicle traffic or buildings for another 20m.

There is already a 2m fence at the bottom of the garden on the boundary.

Since the garden slopes, 700mm over 10m, I want to build a retaining wall and terrace the garden onto two levels.

The new bottom of the garden ( top of the retaining wall) will be 350mm higher, since this wall is inside the boundary of my property, is it legal to add a 2m fence on top of this?

The fence would technically be inside my boundary and will measure 2m from my lowest point. (Technically now 2.35m from the yard behind)

There are a number of gardens a few doors up that have such fences, then a reasonable drop off (up to 1m) down to the yard of the warehouse site, so there is precedence. (The yard slopes down further to the left over the course of 30m with houses in a row)

Is 1) this setup within the legal limits of a 2m fence, is it a grey area or simply not within the spirit of the rules and requires planning permission?

If it requires planning permission, how common is this to be granted?

Which website is the most credible when researching average salaries for finance jobs?

I am approaching my employer for a pay rise next week and I am currently researching average salaries of different job types in the finance industry.

I am a Level 4 qualified Accounting Technician and as part of my case I want to be able to approach my employer to say why I deserve to be paid more and also compare it to other job roles that have less responsibilities than mine, but pay more than what I am currently getting paid.

A few websites have different figures, so I don’t want to approach my employer with figures with one site, for them to then come back at me with different figures from a more credible site.

I am based in North East England, 7 years experience in an Accounting practice (4 of them being an apprentice)

Thanks in advance!

Why are GP online booking systems not available 24/7?

My GP has an online form they call footfall that is available for one hour three times a day Mon - Fri. A friend says hers is similar. From an end user point of view I don't understand why it's not available all the time, whilst the surgery just checks it once a work day. I'm curious as to what the advantage is for them to do it this way. I'm grateful for any insight!

Could a fox be responsible for killing a cat and leaving one part in my garden?

I’ve found one quarter of a cat in my garden. I have checked the rest of my garden and there are no other remains from the cat. There is no collar. The cat has been disemboweled with matted moist fur, so I assume an animal has been eating it. The only animal I could think of would be a fox, but it says online that it is rare for a fox to kill a cat.

I don’t understand why there’s one body part a few meters from my back door but nothing across the length of my 80ft garden. I don’t think my neighbours either side would dismember a cat and throw it over.

There is no collar but unusual to have stray cats around here. I was thinking of posting on the Nextdoor app describing the fur colour. If it was my pet, I’d want the body back to bury. What would others do?

Location - West London Zone 6

When can someone rightfully call themselves an “engineer”?

I've been thinking about this recently—especially in the IT sector, where job titles like AI Engineer, Software Engineer, and Platform Engineer are now commonplace. In the past, these roles would have simply been called programmers or developers. Similarly, I came across a newspaper article referring to a gas engineer, but based on the job description, it seemed like he was actually a gas fitter—not an engineer in the traditional sense.

From my understanding (at least in the UK), the title engineer should only be used legitimately by those who are chartered—meaning they belong to an accredited regulatory body, much like how doctors are registered with the General Medical Council or dentists with the General Dental Council. Most of these professionals likely hold formal engineering degrees (such as BEng or MEng) along with other specialised qualifications.

It seems like engineer is one of those words that has been stretched over the years, losing its original meaning. I remember working in property management in Clapham, South London, about a decade ago and being amused when tenants described themselves as young professionals. Traditionally, a professional refers to someone in a regulated field—such as a doctor, solicitor, accountant, or surveyor. Someone working in an office after a stint at Starbucks or River Island doesn’t quite fit that definition.

Also, for context - one of the main shareholders (an arrogant, rude twat - but that's another story) of the property business I worked for owned a civil engineering consultancy that was involved in designing and building the drainage systems used to drain rainwater from motorways - the guy was absolutely loaded - as I recall he was one of only a small handful of people in the UK who the technical knowledge and ability to do that kind of work, and thus was able to charge a fortune. There's surely no way you can lump someone like that in the same category as someone fitting gas boilers or installing burglar alarms.

Can anyone clarify this further?

Why are so many cereals so sugary/ why do people want so much sugar in the morning?

So I'm trying to get back into the habit of eating breakfast, not having done so since I was a kid. I'm not a morning person and I find meal prep to be tedious chore at the best of times, so cereal is ideal, nice and light, chuck some in a bowl, chuck some milk on to act as lube to ram into my shrivelled up crisp bag of a stomach and go.

However us morning light savoury enjoyers seem to be on this tight rotation of, cornflakes, bran flakes, rice crispies, shredded wheat and Weatabix, Espicially when looking around your run of the mill supermarket. Meanwhile, sugar based life forms, who want dessert as their first meal get muesli, granola, various shapes and sizes of wheat and corn drenched in honey, chocolate, cinnamon, stuffed with purees of ersatz approximations of strawberries, raspberries, blueberries.

But seriously, finding sugar free granola or muesli in say your local tesco is often a problem, or you buy some seemingly health conscious brand, and you find its only marginally better than honey and chocolate soaked wheat hoop flakes.

Yes I'm aware other light breakfast options exist, toast, porridge, croissants etc but even so the amount of sweet variations of these seem to vastly outweigh the number of savoury options, this is a particular problem when I'm out and about and buying something from like Costa or Pret.

I'm open to other breakfast suggestions, as long as its light and easy to make.

I'm not particularly on a health kick, I just find strong flavoured sweet things in the morning to be a bit of a sensory hell, yes that includes fruit too.

Astroturf for dogs - does it smell?

I realise the use of fake grass is a very contentious one - but we are considering it for a shady and muddy garden with poor drainage - with a football mad child who can't play all winter!

The big problem I have is with the dog, will the fake grass smell? Any owners who have experience of managing this? We are looking at LazyLawn.
