On the back of the forced overtime post...
I've always been one to go with the flow, but it got me thinking. What are the rules and regulations for Specials being required to attend jobs or stay on a scene guard past their booking off time?
I thought I'd read we cannot be compelled to stay unless it's an emergency or major incident? Maybe I'm wrong!
Hi All, Had Police Mutral guy come to HQ and he was telling a few of us our tax code should be around 1297... Now mine isn't that and I'm on 1257L which I have been for years (and yes, the uniform rebate is on there too!) does anyone know if I'm missing anything to be able to increase my allowance?
Many thanks!
Hello all - some regs advice please.
Recently my colleagues and I find myself in situations where we are let’s say 20 minutes from finishing and we get told to go and arrest somebody or complete a task that would make us obviously late.
I will not go beyond for the job so I don’t want to, means I go home late and I’m even more miserable then normal. Sometimes it can happen 3/4 times a set and is really grinding down on me.
What do the regs say? I get it, if I’m at a job then I go when it’s done…But I find myself getting ready to go home, just updated all my jobs, it’s 30-45mins left and ready to handover cars and I get a silly tasking that will take obviously much longer then what is left of the shift.
Like today I was meant to go arrest somebody take them to custody (25min drive each way), book in and do statement and a handover all in 50mins. - apparently it’s all it takes.
Is there a specific reason why they don’t like us cuffing a hand to a hospital bed?
Seems like it’s more comfortable for the subject whilst being safer for the officers.
I appreciate that there are other posts regarding the IPA but I was hoping for more up to date advice if that’s ok?
I’ll be going to New York (Specifically Manhattan) with my dad for the last week of the year, and being a recent joiner of the IPA (Tbh I was persuaded to by a very kind DS) and as my dad is hugely interested in the World Trade Centre (and NYPD) I thought it would be nice to set something up, even just a short visit or something, and was wondering whether I should contact the UK Section, or the US one? How should I do it?
As a driver, it's a pretty common observation and opinion. That driving standards in the UK, have been on the decline for a long time.
Drink/drug driving, speeding, and mobile phone usage seem to get allot of focus, and quite rightly so. I'd say the vast majority of drivers know they can't do these things, despite some choosing to.
But allot of drivers seem to have little regard to following distances, lane discipline, lane hogging, and in general just tw*tish driving behaviour.
How often do you stick people on for stuff like tailgating, is it something you look out for, and proactively Police. Or is your time taken up so much with drugs, alcohol, and mobile phones?.
As Police officers, who deal with this stuff. If you had the power, and could make any changes you wanted to. What things would you change/implement to improve driving standards?.
My post got automatically removed because I put NCALT in the title (says it’s not descriptive enough)
Anyway, recently did the digital investigators one which was … okay….. but it did open up my mind what to be aware of when attending some calls.
So, has anyone come across something and thought, oh, that was useful?
Morning. I have contacted internally to ask this question but expect a 3 week delay on that...
Due to leave the force early 2025, I will be accepting an offer elsewhere. Money is tight at the moment for various reasons and having 500 extra pounds in my pocket for a few months would help.
Other than the lack of matched contributions for a few months I cant really see another downside to this but wanted to ask the room. 8 years service
Hi all I used to work for my local force but left this last June and started a new role for an ambulance company at a small airport with a npas hanger based there. Spoke to an atc controller at work earlier and apparently they haven't had a pilot for months because the pilots don't last long due to lack of pay. Is that true or speculation because if so that would be a logistical nightmare for certain incidents and cause issues with covering larger areas when it comes to high risk mispers
Morning all,
Currently reviewing an appeal report for work..being staff I'm not completely familiar with results from crown court.
Is anyone able to explain to me please what it means when an suspect is 'Not Guilty - Discharged Final' at crown court for sexual offences?
I know with minor offences discharged would mean that they are discharged but you still have a criminal record, and that the court experience was enough punishment in itself.
I'm mainly confused about the wording 'Final' for the disposal at court for the sexual offences. Does this still mean the record will still be considered a criminal record for PNC and PND.
Any help would be greatly appreciated!
Can you put in a claim for a taxi fare each way as public transport isn‘t running and you’ve no other way to get to the station?
Bit of a hypothetical question for anyone that can assist.
If an officer has been warned for court as the arresting officer and ends up leaving the job before said court date, in what capacity will they give evidence?
TIA
Im under the old 2019 (january) entry pay scale and i was under assumption that you moved from point 0 to point 1 after becoming independent but after reviewing my payslips ive been on this for about a year a half at first which doesnt seem right.
Everyone on shift is too young to remember so i thought id tap the well of knowledge here for a bit of insight if you could be so kind.
Could someone inform me as to the use of area cars in the Met please? What is the difference between say a standard IRV and an area car?
Many thanks
A humble counties Special
Just came back from my Smart shop. Had to do an age verification as the mince pies have brandy in them. Got my thinking. I wonder how many mince pies does one need to consume to be over the limit? I was going to have one this morning, but with the way things are at the moment. I think I’ll wait to RD.
I’m also tempted, in the interest of public safety, seeing how many I can eat before blowing over on an ESD.
Could be part of a new eat/drive campaign over Christmas
Hi all. Asking for a friend who seems to have hit a funk. Inspector level with 15 years service but he’s wanting out. It seems there must be countless transferable skills but (like my career - medicine) the jump to a ‘real job’ seems daunting and the job market is baffling.
Any advice? I’d like to try and sign post him and I wonder if just biting the bullet and quitting might give him the required motivation!
Hellos esteemed colleagues,
If we have closed a lane on a major route and then a member of the public decides to crash next to our lane one closure. Is this a polac?
In terms of taser and standard courses, how is it measured for people to be put on courses. Is there any skills that they look at which can influence their decision?
Like I know of the fitness and pass requirements and mandatory retest for armed officers. But do they have to do more?
Like do CTSFO have to constantly train to perform at their best? Or are they really sort of just sitting around waiting for a call?
pay query
hi everyone, i just started my new role today and pay day is the 20th of every month with the cut off being around the 5th. does anybody know how pay will work for november? i’ve had some people say i will get 3 weeks of pay and others saying ill just get the weeks worth. thanks
Has your force been asked to keep radio transmissions to a minimum due to it costing too much.
To conduct a pnc check now you have to ring a number, to look at a job other than a priority, you have too look at it and do all the checks yourself?
While previously everything was done on the radio
Is this routine practice in forces around the country?
I know that the Airways network should have been shut down many years ago now to make was for ESN that never came into place
Is this a car, a car-derived van, or a van? I'm wondering what its max speed is on a dual carriageway in a national speed limit for example. I drive a vivaro for work, and a car for personal. I know the speeds for those two but I'm trying to find out the easy way for this. What makes a car derived van?
I believe I may have ADHD and I've been told by my GP that the waiting list is 2 years for an assessment. Does anyone know if the private health care through the MET provide an assessment?
As with many towns and cities across the UK, the ones I police are getting more and more delivery app moped riders. Some of the standard of riding is truly awful. As a motorcyclist, I fail to see how they have passed a CBT - of course some haven't.
I try to stop vehicles when I get the chance (increasingly less recently). Specifically with delivery riders, a lot seem to be Brazilian and are producing an Italian licence (well, a photo) and have been in the UK for less than a year. From googling at the roadside the licences seem to look legit, but how can I check if/what they can drive/ride on it?
Is there anything I should be looking out for other than them being in the UK for more than a year? It seems to just be a crazy workaround method that many are exploiting. Their vehicles are 9 times out of 10 registered and insured for the purpose of their journey, and their vehicles maintained to a decent standard.
Cheers
With apologies for a clearly Met-centric question.
Have any of you learned colleagues done this training yet?
Mine starts tomorrow and I suddenly realise I have no idea what to actually expect, both content and practicalities wise. Does it finish at 4pm on the dot? Is the rumour about no refreshments true?
I heard some second-hand rumours but nothing specific, and nobody from my team has done it yet.
Thanks 😬
