Back to work after a long absence

So I'll preface this by saying I've had a 6 week period off work in the past as a result of going a bit wibble. Returning was a bit frustrating on that occasion as the staggered return and shorter shifts seemed a bit unnecessary.

Flash forward to the present and I've been off for the last 6 months, due to return ina couple of weeks. My posting has been given away so I will be returning as a floating patrol skipper without a specific posting.

Governors told me I will be doing 4 hours a day and no nights for a few weeks before adding hours on as time progresses. I'll mostly have a free hand of what work I will be doing after my first aid has been refreshed.

I imagine I will be stuck with workload reviews until then but have made it clear I want to go out with PCs to get used to jobs again and to make sure I'm not completely detached from what my team (when they finally sort out a posting) are going to be dealing with. Frankly after 6 months of very little but gym and getting plenty of sleep, shifts are going to suck.

Folks who have had an extended period of time away, is there anything you wish did or didn't happen when you got back to work? Any tips or recommendations? I'd planned on doing most of my career on patrol after spending ten years doing it but after 6 months off I'm feeling very much de-skilled.

Chiltern Transport Consortium Peugeot expert Sirens

    Hello all,

Anyone here using CTC vehicles (TVP, Beds, BTP, Herts etc.) have been having issues with the sirens, on the new Peugeot expert? The siren on ours keep dying and no one has been able to find out what is causing it. All fleet has done is sent an email to make everyone aware. Our only van has been 'basic' only for over a month now!

    Thanks

    New promotion process

Thinking of going for it next year (DC to DS). I'm told that the process is changing, possibly a change to the exam to make it more role-focused somehow, and a change from the boards to some kind of assessed shifts situation. Is anyone able to be a bit more eloquent than me and explain exactly what the plan is?

    Thanks!

    What offence?

    Hi all,

Got stumped with a job. It seems like it fits Voyeurism but when looking at PNLD I’m not so sure…

Person A has taken a photo of person B down their shirt when they weren’t paying attention.

    Genuinely stumped…

    To clarify:

Person A was in a pub socialising. Person B has just taken a photo down the front of the top.

What do Investigation Management Unit (IMU) investigators actually do, day to day? Do they actually investigate anything?

Calling 999 from abroad to report an active UK crime.

I set up indoor cameras for when I travel abroad and was wondering what I'd do if I got a notification and saw intruders in my home. Being that reaction time would be crucial, what would be the best thing to do? Would +44 999 work? Thank you

    Shoplifting cctv

    Hi,

I’m just wondering if anyone can help advise.

We’ve had a massive focus on shoplifting in our local force given the national issue with it.

I am finding it difficult to deal with stores, as they often struggle to burn the CCTV and only provide second generation copies in the form of a mobile phone camera recording their CCTV system screen.

I am just wondering if there is policy/case law regarding this, as I do not feel that we should be investigating the matter if the footage is unable to be burned in the first generation.

It is so frustrating when stores do not provide the footage or have extremely complicated CCTV systems with no staff correctly trained.

    Thank you

Asked to describe a suspect despite having a photo of him

My daughter was recently interviewed by the police in regards to an assault by her boyfriend. She was asked to provide a description of her boyfriend, and when she offered a photo of him on her mobile it was refused and they insisted on her giving a description. But surely a description could be vague and apply to many people whereas a photo or video would be much more accurate. What's going on here?

Best light to attach to molle vest?

Hello, I have tried numerous different torches but seen some clever officers have mini lights such as 'olight' ones attached to the vest. Anyone have any suggestions for super bright lights like this?

Do speed police ever choose not to chase if the car is simply going to fast to catch.

Inspired by that scene in tokyo drift when he says if you go over a certain speed japanese police wont even try to catch you. I know traffic and other obstructions may slow the car down enough to catch up in some cases, but say a police car is doing speed watch on an empty motorway and a car passes at over 200mph, you ain’t catching up in a 530d. Would they instead just call another station to send someone to cut them or do they always give chase anyway even if they’re unlikely to catch up?

Could anyone tell me if this is a civil matter or a police matter in their personal opinion?

Hiya, back story - my sisters husband was recently arrested for ABH (It was Domestic Violence). He has been released on bail with conditions one of which is he can’t attend the property. Because of this he has a friend coming to collect his personal possessions next week with a van.

They were joint tenants on the flat they rent, and he has given in writing to estate agent that he wants to leave the tenancy a few weeks ago (they haven’t actually accepted this request yet, but for arguments sake he’s given notice and in ‘notice period’. He didn’t pay his half of the rent for this period so my sister paid it from her savings.

Question is, would she be done for theft if she kept some items to the value of the money he owes her for the rent. Nothing personal meaning more communal items like TV, Wardrobe etc to the value of the money he didn’t pay. Or would this be seen by the police as a civil matter for small claims court type thing? He did pay for them and buy them so they are technically his but he owes the money. Just don’t wanna see her do it and then get in trouble herself. Thank You

What base insurance is required for food deliveries?

    Hi all,

I've been getting a mixed bag and it's really only going to matter if/when stopped so I'd rather be sure and ask here.

If I buy zego (or some other hire and reward/food delivery) insurance, what type of base insurance do I need for it to be valid? SDP, or SDP+C? I've even had some people say business... but I don't think so

Edit: just eat and uber eats

    Response course Met

Hello all, I have been given a response course at Hendon. I’ve been waiting for some time and now I’ve been given one, I am quite worried about it. I have been driving for years, but I’m dyslexic and my map reading is affected by this. However rarely on times when given driving directions it may affect this.

I have been driving for 13 years, but generally feel anxious about the course. For those who have done it, what was it like? Any tips I should follow? And what was the final drive like?

    Thank you

Will labour’s employment rights bill reduce probationers to only 6 months instead of 2 years?

I’ve read that labour are planning to cut the max probation period from 2 years to 6 months. Will this affect police too? I’m probably with the vast majority that do not believe 6 months is nearly enough time. Any thoughts?

    Neighbourhood policing

Due to join neighbourhood team for several months on a secondment, whilst I think the role would be better suited for other officers I am hoping to get some examples for career progression and I am keen to get stuck in. What are the best examples of neighbourhood policing you have seen and aside from the obvious not knowing where I work etc any recommendations for projects which are impressive to talk about for futures boards etc.

The suspect in 24 hours in police custody (the conspiracy to murder episode) was clearly guilty right? How come the judge pronounced him not guilty?

Mabu Baig was clearly guilty to me. Could someone explain why the evidence with the phone calls to conspire being at his house weren't enough for the court? I want to be a detective constable and I'm generally curious how he got no charges.

    CV required for internal vacancy

I’ve been in the job on response for almost 3 years now and looking to move on to other roles. I’ve always been interested in Roads Policing and the investigation of collisions and my force are currently hiring for their forensic collision investigation unit. I was surprised to go through the application process on our internal intranet and be asked for my CV. No other role that I know of asks for this. It is a PC position but I am aware this can sometimes be a civilian staff role too.

Has anyone applied for an internal vacancy and been required to provide a CV?

What would I put on it? What would you be putting on your CV for something like this? Would I include all the irrelevant things I did before the job or are they after my education qualifications (it’s a lot of maths) and maybe what I’ve done within the job?

Unrelated but if there is any FCIs in this subreddit would love to hear more about the role in your force to see how it differs across the country.

EDIT: Appreciate advice to ask recruitment, they’ve been emailed and left a voice message but no response and applications close very soon, so going to do a CV anyway even if it’s an error.

    Taser tac vests

Does anyone know of an online option for a tac vest. Going through occy health takes too long and I had a tac vest cover previously but it doesn’t have an x2 taser holster, since I got taser I’ve had to use my belt which is causing hip pain. Anyone know where to get one? Cheers!
