I take my first official CFA tomorrow(deadline is Nov 15) and I was just wondering if/when USAFA requests a retake do they extend the deadline or will I have to do it again next week without any extra prep.
Hi everyone, I was wondering what was everyone's CFA score. I'm debating on whether to submit a weak CFA in 2 weeks or hold off for another month to get more practice in. The thing is if I wait for another month it's going to be freezing where I live which will definitely hurt my mile time. Currently, my mile is 8:40, with a weak bb throw and no pullups. So, if I train for another month I could definitely improve my pull up and bb throw, but my mile time may or may not suffer. Which option do you think is the best/less risk?
I've already submitted all of the segments in the application portal (except for the nomination and DODMERB); however, I am the drum Major of my school's marching band, and we just advanced to the state marching contest- something never done before in my school district. Also, I plan on starting both a college/SAT prep and Bible study club at the beginning of the second semester. Would there be any way to add these, and more, to my application to be more competitive?
Someone who has been accepted or passed the CFA, how do I look? Just to pass the test
BB throw: 60 pull ups: 8 Shuttle: 9.3 Sit ups: 84 push ups: 60 Mile: 5:45
BB Throw: 65, Pull-ups: 14, Shuttle Run: 9.3, sit-ups: 71, Pushups: 50, run: 8:30
IK my run isn’t good but is it enough to pass?
Junior here, I am currently in IB Math, Lit&lang, Biology and history of the americas. Next year I will have the choice between IB Econ or IB HOTA for my history class. I would much rather prefer econ as I know I’d value the class much more than a history class however, Econ is often viewed as an easier alternative to history. Should I pursue the harder history class or the class that I value but could potentially look worse?
The majority of grads on here find 1-2 useful or insightful posts a month. This just gets flooded with admissions questions that are mostly Google-able. Is this something being considered? Thanks, mods.
Also Speech and Debate achievements. And doing well in the CFA.
Hi,
I'm not exactly sure where to go because everyone I know that's been to USAFA is currently there and not reachable. This might be a bit of a long one. You were warned.
I'm from a small town. I only know one person in my town who's brother is currently at USAFA and was described as "frustratingly perfect".
My school has screwed me over so bad. I had some mental issues when I was younger and when I recovered - I'm thriving and unmedicated, they refused to listen. They refused to give my honors classes in my freshman year and refused to remove my IEP. I swapped schools to online.
They didn't remove my IEP - which is simply precautions to make sure I have help if I need it, and I took all honors classes and got straight As. I started a foreign language class - Japanese; But the teacher refused to help any students understand the material so I dropped the class. I went to that school for two years. I did a semester of PSEO; But the college was bad so I stopped after 1 semester (I tried to swap to all in-person and they waited the day before the deadline despite months of emailing to reply. They also refused to tell me where my finals were and when they were (it wasn't online either) and when I tried to call their testing center to schedule to take them they ignored all my calls)
I swapped back to my original school for senior year thinking it'd look better - big mistake. They refused to give me my schedule until a week before school started. We signed the paperwork for my IEP THREE times when school started two to three months ago and they still haven't removed it. I am thinking of making them sign a waiver saying it wasn't needed because I nearly NEVER used it. They put me in 11th grade history and science. I am taking English, world history and chemistry. They didn't give my Calc when my old school had be placed for honors pre-calc. I have one semester of computer science and my next semester schedule is halved because they haven't finished it.
I have been in CAP (civil air patrol) for three to four years. I have participated actively and have been flight sergeant, first sergeant and am not the cadet commander. I have earned awards for good NCO leadership from the best leadership school for CAP - the national commander even did a class on servant leadership. I scored an 82 on my ASVAB; But need to take my SAT and ACT.
Will I even be considered? Everything I want for myself is through USAFA. I'm trying to get into an NCSA (National cadet special activity) through CAP called Civic Leadership so I can get a letter of recommendation through a senator or somebody - I was suggested to do so by an adult in CAP.
I don't even know if this sub can help me. I'm just trying to get real feedback since nobody in my town knows anything about USAFA. I graduate this year and turn 18 next week.
Took the official test today. Will I fail it? (male)
Basketball throw 55 feet
Pullups 11
Shuttle Run 9.0 seconds
Situps 89
Pushups 65
Mile 6:58:42
So I’m from farm lands and we have horses and cows and I help take care of them, and I’ve been riding recently, and I know USAFA has a Equestrian club, but would this be an EC? I’m a guy so ppl like my mom thinks it’ll make my application laughable, and just want to make sure it wouldn’t hinder my applications, since I start soon.
I am a junior in high school with a 33 act and 3.8 unweighted gpa, with around 4.14 weighted because my school does unweighted. I have 2 varsity letters for swimming, and I’m wondering when I should start the application process and what else I need to work on. I heard you need congressional approval. Is that true?
Hello, I recently joined this reddit in hopes to find advice for applying to a service academy, specifically USAFA. I’m currently in 8th grade, with my course work consisting of mainly Honors ELA, U.S History, and algebra. I’m also an NCO in Civil Air Patrol, and I also play sports such as basketball, and football.
Recently did CFA and got these scores:
BB throw: 30ft
Pushups: Max
Situps: 62
Pullups: 8
Shuttle run: 10.5~
Mile run: 6:18
how do i improve the basketball throw?? IDEK where I could train it, there's no open tracks near me. idk what happened with my situps i wasn't too tired i just did them really slowly without just letting myself fall at the top of the rep.
If you qualified for your CFA with USNA, will that also qualify you for USAFA or do they have different standards?
Does anyone have any tips for the flexed arm hang for females on the CFA? I’m trying to get to the goal of 30 seconds but I’m not sure how to improve my time.
I'm applying for the class of 29 currently enlisted my last SAT was 2 years ago r+w:630 m:510 and was wondering since I'm taking another SAT on Nov 2nd if they will take my highest scores for example if I get a 600 on r+w and a 650 on math will they take my look at both of my SAT's and pick the highest scores?
This is for the people who were prior enlisted and attended the prep school. When filling out your 1786 did y’all apply directly to USAFA and was later referred to the prep school or did y’all apply directly to the prep school?
I understand that majority of Prior-E are sent to the prep school and there are a few who directly enter USAFA, so I was just wondering what y’all did.
Hey everyone, I'm wondering if the CFA averages that are listed on the usafa page are accurate. Are the scores a representation of the whole candidate (those are the scores of the average candidate), or is each section averaged so every applicant has some higher and some lower scores than the ones listed? I'm wondering because they seem pretty impressive for an "average" candidate.
I'm a freshman in a private high school and have always wanted to go to the USAFA. I have above average grades and take high level classes. I am also a cyclist and am in fair shape. I also have multiple service members in my family, including one who went to the USAFA.
My initial plan was enlisting to the Air Force right after high school but recently my mentors have been pushing me towards the USAFA. Here are a few items that could be considered in my application. My biggest concern is I have little leadership roles and not much sports participation, My grades were D average for freshman year and I failed Computer Science that year. I plan on doing wrestling for the remainder of high school but will most likely play JV due to my experience level. I recently got a part time job. As of now I am currently preparing to take the SAT and ACT.
-3.5 GPA -AP Physics and Pre-Calculus -Taking Engineering Classes At A Technical School -Police Cadet -AVID Ambassador -1st Dan Kendo -Student Ambassador For Sister City -Volunteer at Tribal Museum (worked on exhibits) -AFJROTC (2 Years at the moment, Command staff) -Eagle Scout (My eagle project was building two drinking fountains) -Poor Backround, First to go to college in my family, first to enlist.
What should/can I do to better my application?
I currently have a superscore 34 ACT, 35 reading, 35 english, 33 math, and 34 science. I'm just a bit worried since doing IB has dropped me to a 3.8 unweighted GPA (I've got a 4.5 weighted) (which will probably be a 3.7 unweighted after this semester since these senior year HL courses are impossible to get A's in lol). Should I retake the ACT to get a higher score?
I’m really confused about the nomination process. for reference I’m in texas and i thought we would get in contact with congressmen after the 1st semester of junior year, but im seeing other people talk about applications already.Should I already be getting in contact with my congressman?
What would be some minimum requirements to be accepted into the USAFA or the air force prep school
How can I find out if I have a competitive district and is there anything specific I should do when reaching out?
Does anyone have any special or personal tips for the interview process. Any advice would help
I understand that this is a tired question and that posts like these are a dime a dozen, but what are my chances at getting into the academy? I plan to enter the academy in hopes to graduate and commission as a USAF officer in the biomedical science corps. Most of my family has served in the Air Force or the Army, and I would love to serve my country while continuing the family tradition/legacy.
My current ACT score is a 27 composite (27’s on everything and a 28 on reading, I did not take the writing portion). My GPA is 4.168 weighted and 3.814 unweighted, which is enough to put me in the top 10% of my class (23 out of 219).
I have done multiple sports — cross country, football, wrestling, and track. My main sport, and presently my only sport, is track: 3x state qualifier (4x400m, 4x100m), 1x all-state (4x100m), 1x all-american (4x100m), and 2x school record holder (4x100m).
I am also currently involved in a wide range of clubs and extracurriculars:
And I volunteer constantly, the most notable and recent one was being a manager for my high school’s cross country team.
However, despite all of these clubs, extracurriculars, and volunteer projects — I have never held a job before. I plan on working part-time but that most likely wont be till after December 31st, which is the deadline to submit my resume for the application process.
Would this hurt my chances at all? Do I have a shot in making it? I think my extracurriculars and athletics are solid but I’m afraid my lack of work experience and my “good but not great” academics might hold me back. Are these valid worries? Am I missing anything? Also thank you in advance for anyone and everyone who responds. I appreciate any advice/criticisms.
(P.S this is a brand new account, but I assure everyone that this is not a throwaway acc or a troll)
What are my chances with my current CFA, Academics, and Extra curricular position? I want to note that I'm a first generation with no family in the military. I've applied to both my Texas Senate and county for my nomination. My current SAT is an 1160 (520 RW, 640 M). My current GPA is 4.67 Unweighted on a 6-point scale and 3.6 GPA on an unweighted. Two weeks ago, I tested myself on the CFA and did 12 pull-ups in 55s, a Throw of 60.1 ft, a Shuttle Run of 10.10, Sit-ups of 92, push-ups of 54 in 1:24, and 6:42 mile. I'm not on any sports team but involved in many of the STEM and National Organizations. I have been in JROTC for four years (Cadet Ltn Colonel), with three years of Engineering and one year of Computer Science, primarily Fluent in programming Java. First Cadet in my JROTC unit to get accepted into the Air Force Flight Academy, Current Officer for the Technology Student Association (Engineering Organization), 11th grade Secretary of SNHS, a current member of NHS, Mu Alpha Theta (Math NHS), Currently holding my PPL and my part 107 License. I plan to enter any service academies to become a pilot, mainly the Air Force. My SAT is what I'm worried might break my changes into any service academy. If you have any questions, let me know.
