Are positions such as a 13N that are notoriously hard to fill through the academy and ROTC easier to get placed into for OTS?
Hi all,
I have just over a week in between graduating OTS and my class start date for Initial Flight Training in Colorado. I'm curious about what others have done in this situation and would love to hear your stories/about your experience.
I'm considering:
Driving from Alabama to Colorado (I'll have my car) and then stashing the car somewhere in CO and flying home for a week.
or
Waiting to see if I can find any buddies in my OTS class who are also in my IFT class who are interested in sharing a BnB and enjoy the Colorado Springs area before class starts. I also might have a friend interested in doing this with me from home.
I'm Guard and there's a break in my orders between OTS and IFT, so I'm basically responsible for myself and can do whatever.
TYIA!
I am strongly considering going for a four-year Aviation Sciences degree. By the time I graduate, I will have my commercial multi-engine rating, instrument rating, and time as an instructor. It’s a bit ambiguous to me whether aviation-related degrees would give me a boost, but this degree would be fully focused in learning about the science of flying, and includes classes on aerodynamics, maintenance/systems, weather, etc; Would this give me a significant edge over other applicants?
I just submitted all my docs on AFCEP, haven't gone to meps yet. I'm prior enlisted (intel), got out and went to college. I earned an Aerospace degree with a 3.56 gpa. I'm thinking Aero or Astro engineering (both CAD afsc's). I don't have any experience in engineering outside school, is that a hard requirement? Have you been picked up for a CAD afsc with no experience? Thanks. Afoqt 99/97/99/98/96/94
A few weeks ago I posted about how I was waiting on a height waiver for CSO. A few people asked for an update so here it is. For context: I’m 5’1, a civilian, selected back in May 2024, and had passed my medical exams with flying colors.
I got word last week that AFRS disqualified me for an IFC IA which is what I would have needed for CSO. However, based on my flight physical results AFRS automatically qualified me for an IFC III. My recruiter gave me two options, I could walk away or if I was still interested in a commission they would assist me in getting another job.
I had to list both remaining rated jobs that I was medically qualified for. I ranked ABM over RPA because I want to have overseas base options. My recruiter came back with the results and said I’ve been awarded an ABM spot with a tentative OTS date of August 2025. It’s going to take that long for me to go to OTS because the ABM slots for this year are full.
My advice for short people is just go through the process. If you want to apply for CSO, then go for it, but maybe talk with your recruiter prior about what would happen if you don’t pass your IFC IA due to height. I’m fortunate that my recruiter found me another job, but I know of at least 2-3 CSO active-duty selects who were DQ’d and given no options.
Oh and if anyone knows anything about ABM life please share. Everything online seems so outdated.
If anyone is willing to share their package it would be appreciated as I'm looking to see how the Duties/Responsibilities/Accomplishments section was done with the change to narrative statements.
Additionally, I'm extremely interested in those that have been picked up as 17S as what I'm hoping to get selected for.
PM me and we can move the convo over to teams if that works.
As I'm coming up to my interview date for the interview, I've been getting so many conflicting guidances from how to conduct myself, especially as a current AD member.
It's not the questions, but how to take the interview.
On answering questions, I've been told either -
Don't give any answers over 1-2 sentences (This makes no sense)
Make sure the interviewers talk more than me (This makes no sense)
Don't talk too much about yourself (This makes no sense)
For how to report, as I'm wearing my uniform, I asked about unit I'm interviewing with about reporting and they said the interview will be "relaxed." I feel like I still need to march in with my hands on my knees while I sit down, but this would make me feel like I'm reporting too much and not let me express myself.
I'm not sure if I'd be able to laugh, smile, use my hands... you know.. be natural and myself.
I've also been told that the board members are not allowed to say anything outside of questions, and that the questions are same for all applicants meaning that they don't gear any personalized questions to you outside a random one picked from your packet. This would mean to me that I NEED to provide full context and big answers to any question I get as I wouldn't have a chance to touch on it again.
Is there any actual guidance I can receive for this? Thank you.
I purchased the 4th a year ago and am now finally getting around to studying as I plan to take the AFOQT at the end of December and I’ve noticed a 5th Edition had been released.
Are there any significant differences?
Would I be fine sticking with the 4th Edition or should I purchase the new one?
I saw that AFRS posted FY26 estimated open AFSC but I don't see any medical jobs on there. Is that posted somewhere else? Applying to the next public health officer board (if there are any spots available for it)
Hello!
Can anyone clarify the process post selection? I am AD enlisted and was selected on 24OTS04 for 14N currently awaiting a class date and the only official thing I’m reading is that OTS is a TDY enroute for my PCS to Goodfellow for tech school, but how does that work with a family?
Will my wife have to move to Goodfellow prior to me leaving for OTS? Or is it possible to get her to stay at my current assignment (CONUS) until I’m finished with OTS? I can’t find anything more specific or clarifying on this process? Are there any prior AD 14N selects out there that can help clarify this?
Having my wife move herself and managing HHG, selling our house, etc. are really significant tasks for her to manage on her own while I’m in OTS.
Few small questions after taking the test.
Will it update on Pearson VUE at all about the results? I know about the other .mil website you have to go to check and that it takes about 2-3 day to get the results, but does Pearson VUE update anywhere like in view score reports or no?
In the small chance I mistyped the Test Center Number, when searching for the results on the .mil website do I need to recreate the typo or is there another way I can find the score?
The only reason I ask question 2 is because I feel like there was a small chance I accidentally put a 6 where there should have been a 3, but I really am not too sure. It did still let me take the test so there wasn't an issue there.
Prior Contracted AFROTC cadet. Completed Field Training but disenrolled to pursue PA school first then commission. Recently accepted to PA school, looking to apply to HPSP. Will being a previously contracted cadet who voluntarily left on good standing hurt my chances?
Edit: I was contracted but not on scholarship.
Hello everyone,
I’m preparing to take the AFOQT and was wondering if I need to answer all the questions in every section, as I plan to join as a non-rated officer. Any insights would be appreciated—thank you!
^^
Hey all! I’m a 25OTS02 applicant I’ll be headed to MEPS at Mcguire on Nov 13 and am wondering if anyone else will be there as well. Feel free to PM me!
AFRS posted the FY26 open AFSCs, are these the jobs filled by 25OTS03?
I am a civilian going through the reserves/guard application process for a pilot slot. I’ve read that it’s good to have an LOR that can attest to your flying ability. I got my PPL 3 years ago before college and I am starting IFR training next week. I haven’t seen my PPL instructor in 3 years, would it be ok to get a LOR from my new instructor after flying a couple of times?
Anyone go through Wright Patt for their FC1 recently? I’m curious what the timeline is for them to push your physical through. I had no issues and passed everything with flying colors so I’m hoping it won’t take too long.
Going to OTS in January and I'm looking to convert my enlisted blues coat to an officer coat. I found the conversion kit at the link below but the smallest they have is for a 44 and I have a 38L. Does anyone know of any other sources for the conversion kit or should I buy a new one? I've already checked the Airmans attic and there wasn't anything in my size. http://www.uniforms-4u.com/p-usaf-officer-jacket-conversion-kit-18231.aspx
Has anyone put in their formal school request for OTS (I am Guard) this fall and heard about 2025 OTS dates? I am prior enlisted 8 years TSgt so I get how the military can be, but I am really not trying to wait 6 months for dates. How long did it take from the time you requested dates to getting them?
I have heard conflicting things on whether I will need a degree waiver or not. It is counted as a physical science (tier 2) so know I’ll need to go to BMP but I cannot figure out for sure if I’ll need an entry waiver.
Edit: I have heard that recruiters have told geology majors they need waivers but the CIP says they are permitted and just have to go to BIP so that’s where my confusion arises.
I’ve heard it’s pretty backed up, how long is it taking civilians to get flight physicals? As a civilian, if selected, what can I do to move the flight physical process along. I am going to need at least 3 waivers and I’m realizing I should be ahead of the game.
So while working on my house I had an accident that landed me in the ER. Bunch of stitches and I’ll need a leg brace for the next few weeks.
My biggest concern besides healing up, is that I have an interview for a rated position at an ANG base this coming weekend. I’m super stressed about it in general and now I have a leg that is immobilized.
Whats the best way to proceed with something like this? Email the recruiter? Just show up business as usual and explain the situation?
Fortunately, for how bad the injury was I should be healed up in a few weeks with no lasting damage so I’m not worried about the flight physical per say, but I am extremely worried that this will impact my interview.
Thoughts?
Anyone have the memo confirming this to be true and the details of it they can send me? I have a good shot at being selected for my unit’s DSG officer slot soon and want to see if this would apply for me. Thanks
Does any one have suggestions to what will give me the best chances of progress through this form
Trying to get a good idea of the timeline for the USAF NTP.
Prior service Guard MSgt here applying for the USAF AD NTP. Graduated in May and have not taken my NCLEX yet due to a deployment. I did submit all of my paperwork to my recruiter and my CN interview is this week.
The board is supposed to convene on December 2, when should I hear a yay or nay regarding my selection? What is the probability that a prior/current service applicant is denied? How long after receiving a decision did it take to go to OTS?
Hey everyone! I am an attorney, and in October 2024, I submitted my application to the Air Force for active duty as a JAG officer. My application only required submitting documents and doing an interview with a SJA at an air force base. I do not need to take ASVAB nor the AFOQT. The selection board for my application window is to be held on around November 12, 2024. What I've been told is that after the board meets in November, it takes 30-45 days to receive confirmation about being selected to join the Air Force as an officer. My question is when does Officer Training School for the Air Force begin in 2025? I was told by my interviewer that it may be late spring 2025 and that has me worried since that is a lot of months of waiting I have to do just to start OTS. Also, if I do get selected, does my 4 year commitment start when I sign the contract or on day one of OTS? Thanks for reading :)
So, I'm working on completing my application on the AFCEP website. I understand having connectivity issues, but I'm constantly having it freeze and the only way to continue is refreshing the page. Which means I have to log back in, and start over if the part I was completing was not saved. Are there any suggestions, like browsers or whatnot, that can help lessen this issue? Or must I just tough it out?
I am a couple years out of college and recently decided I wanted to join the military. After careful deliberation I then decided on the Air Force and want to try my hand at OTS. I have a bachelor's degree in business management and a minor in criminal justice. I'm not 100% sure what my GPA was but it's 3.0 or a little lower. (I'm pretty smart just school isn't my thing)
Anyway, I want to be a Medical Officer but was wondering if anyone knows what sort of scores on the AFOQT are required for that? Or if it's at all even possible since I have zero history of medical learning or job experience. Outside of that do you have any advice before taking the test, prep, resources etc.? Or would my best bet to just go in enlisted and go into the medical field that way?
Thank you for any answers.
