Hey there, I met someone in the Air Force that told me after a year, you can put in for transfers overseas to open positions. But what is the likelihood of actually getting transferred, even more so to where you want to be? I was in Japan for 3 years and lived in Fussa (by Yokota Airbase in Japan) and would like to possibly move back with the military. Korea is another one I'd be interested in.
Is the likelihood somewhere between none and zilch, is it just idk....10-40% chance, or can it be higher than that? I'd try to go in as an officer (if available) since I have a degree (BS in Business, graduated summa cum laude). I'm 35 years old and have the JLPT N4 (Japanese language cert), and am right by the Air Force Academy in Colorado, if that makes any difference
What does post OTS look like? I’m non prior, moving out for the first time to a different state. Once I graduate (I’m also driving to/from OTS) will I get some time to shop for apartments? Will me driving to my permanent duty location be taken into consideration in terms of time frame? Will they give me a hotel room to stay in for a little (a week) until I find a place? Or would I start my job ASAP? Would they just put me in barracks since I’m single/no dependents and going AD? My OTS date is in January if that matters.
I realize each situation is different, but any insight or personal experience would be helpful. Thanks!
Was selected for 62exe and Feb 2025 OTS. Couldn’t find clear answers after searching through sub or google. What is the typical timeline after OTS? Is tech school Defense Acquisition University? If it is online am I able to go back home and complete DAU courses while waiting for assignment? What is typical time frame between OTS-> tech school-> assigned base? Appreciate any insight from current/former 62exe officers.
We've all been there. You're about to submit your package for OTS, but you want to know how you stack up. Should you relax? Should you throw it all away and start over? Well, here's the place for you to ask strangers who have never sat on an OTS board what they think the board is going to think of your package.
There are many variables to an OTS package. If you want to get the best advice, you need to include as much information as possible, like degree information, GPA, AFOQT, PCSM (if applicable), leadership experience, relevant awards, etc. If you only provide your GPA or AFOQT scores, expect to be told "who knows."
There are a ton of variables that go into officer selection. Nobody here can really tell you your chances. We can guess, but that's about it. We've seen people with stellar scores get rejected and people with garbage scores get accepted. It all comes down to the needs of the Air Force and whatever the random colonel reviewing your package thinks.
That being said, post your scores, help each other, and learn what you can do to improve package!
I’m guard and got selected to commission. started the medical approval part of the A2A paperwork. I’m due for the PFA in December but sprained my back packing and moving boxes to move to our new home in a couple weeks. I don’t know if my back will be cured by the time I take the PFA next week. I’m thinking about postponing it until I get better. Would this push out the time to get the paperwork approved and get school dates?
Should I suck it up, take an Advil and take the PFA?
Thanks!
Is anyone able to / willing to look at my drafts of my two personal statements?
Each is to be around 500 words -
Thank you very much -

My husband is going to the 25-15 OTS, and I'd like to attend his graduation. We have 2 young children as well.
1: At what point should I plan to purchase tickets to fly for his graduation?
2: Is it totally insane to intend on bringing our 2 children (7 & 3) without help as well?
3: Any input on what those days usually entail from a spousal/family perspective is also appreciated. TIA!
I've been looking where to find deadlines for a couple days now and my recruiter takes at least a week to get back to me. Can anyone help me out?
Until recently, I had planned to pursue a non-rated position (likely 14N), as I didn’t have much interest in a pilot role or anything related. However, after receiving my AFOQT scores, I’m starting to wonder if I should reconsider. Would it be worth taking the TBAS and aiming for a rated position?
I also plan to hire a tutor and retake the AFOQT to improve my Aptitude, Verbal, and Quantitative scores.
I appreciate any feedback or advice you can provide and hope you all had a fantastic Thanksgiving (and Black Friday).
NOTE: For reference, my GPA for my bachelor’s degree in Music was a 3.43.
My spouse is graduating from OTS, I'm an E4 airman. What is the appropriate wear for enlisted people at OTS?
Hello, I am a civilian who wants to pursue a commission as a nurse in the Air National Guard or the reserves. I have 10 years experience in nursing with critical care and a master’s degree. The age requirement for nurses is 47. I am 41 and have cleared medical through MEPs with an enlisted recruiter in the hopes of later building a package for an officer application. I am now being told I need to enlist to be considered for an officer opportunity. I have tried reaching out to other officer recruiters and have not gotten a response. Does anyone know if finding a different officer recruiter much further from my home would work or if there is a way to build an application package without a recruiter?
Hey everyone,
Have been applying for a pilot slot for OCS for the Navy for a bit, but am now facing some vision stuff that recently came up that may cause me to fail my Navy flight physical, specifically with my level of hyperopia, even though I've been medically cleared to apply for SNA. It looks like my refraction can be waived for the Air Force, however, and was wondering if it was too late to start submitting a packet for the March pilot board? I know it's pretty late to start putting together a package but am ready to take the AFOQT and TBAS whenever, and was already cleared through MEPS with the Navy. Would my MEPS visit/medical information carry over from that, or would I have to start from scratch and start again with an Air Force Recruiter?
Thanks guys
Hey all!
Awaiting TBAS results currently. If any of yall would be willing to share your experience it’d be greatly appreciated…
I’m quite anxious due to the target tracking section. The rudder pedals were easy and I did well, however the stick tracking was extremely hard. I was probably on target 5-10% of the time. That’s how it felt at least. The directional orientation and multitasking sections felt extremely good so I’m not worried about those. If anyone had a similar experience, what was your PCSM like? For reference, I have a 99 Pilot AFOQT and max hours. Thanks!
I’m a non prior service civilian wanting to join and attend OTS for reserves or guard. I’ve got a good job and graduate degrees that focus on logistics and management. I’m not necessarily looki g to go full time but I particularly love the work done by the air guard in my state and want to keep my regular job but work in logistics/operations for the Air Force. The recruiter basically said the best way was to get a commander to offer me a job and the I would be able to progress through. Any advice for those who want to serve part time on how to get considered for OTS?
Hey everyone,
I’m heading to UPT soon and am curious about the Accelerated Path to Wings (XPW) program, specifically the T-1 track. Does anyone here know how many actual flight hours students get in the XPW T-1 program?
I understand that XPW bypasses the T-6 phase and focuses solely on the T-1 to streamline training, but I’m wondering how the flight hours compare to the traditional UPT path. For those who have gone through it or know someone who has, how much time do you actually spend in the air versus simulators?
Any insight would be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance!
Feel free to post this in a relevant subreddit like r/AirForce, r/MilitaryAviation, or r/PilotTraining for the best responses!
AFI mentions them but everyone I’ve seen has a sew on.
Is it possible to complete assignments with Samsung Dex as my 'laptop', or are there phone restrictions I shouldn't mess with and I should have a laptop?
I just wanted to make a little appreciation post for all the helpful information that's provided in this sub. I take the AFOQT for the first time this coming Wednesday. Fingers crossed. Depending on scores, I will take the TBAS. If scores are ehh, I'll study more and improve on my weak areas. Thanks for all the help so far!
As an additional question - if you were diagnosed with an eating disorder while serving would you be discharged?
Hello everyone,
As the title says, I'm a college senior graduating in June 2025 with a BS in Cybersecurity, and an estimated GPA of ~4.0. I am also a current cadet with CAP and have held various positions, including enlisted equivalent, NCO, officer, and executive command positions, and was in a local police explorer program for many years. My current rank in CAP is C/Lieutenant Colonel, and I will be going for my Colonel (Spaatz) before I age out of the cadet program. My end goal is federal law enforcement in HSI, but want to get true life experience and a solid background in cybersecurity, and the space force has caught my attention.
Current CAP awards include Wright Brothers, Billy Mitchell, Earhart, Ira C. Eaker, 2 House of Reps Citations, 1 Senate Citation, and a USAFA award.
I reached out to the recruiter and they sent me a Google Meet link with the dates they meet and the pre-qualification application. My questions are:
Any help would be appreciated.
I just took the AFOQT at the Andersen AFB Education center and I forgot the testing center number to check my scores. is anyone able to tell me what it was?
Just starting a paper trail here for applicants to share any clues they have.
I didn't receive any guidance on when or how board results will be disseminated. Wildly curious, but this doesn't rise to the level of bothering my recruiter over right now. Thanks for any inputs!
Edit: (clarification) this opportunity appears to be for Air Force Reserve component only
Edit 2: here is an old link to the equivalent DC/CSC program for Cyber and Intel for the Space Force in 2022 https://www.spaceforce.com/news-events/constructive-service-credit
I know recruiters have to handle A LOT of potential applicants and the holiday season is coming up but what's a reasonable time to wait and resending of emails?
I will soon be attending OTS and UPT(KC-135) my current laptop has to be plugged in at all times due to battery life. Will this be an issue at OTS and UPT for note taking purposes or are there sufficient outlets in the classrooms where I can plug my laptop in?
So, I'm ANG, non-rated, non-prof. corps. Currently waiting on OTS dates. Under the best circumstances, it was already going to be an inordinate amount of time for me to graduate from OTS (approx. 2 years from swearing in). But now my temp. approval to appoint is expiring and, in order to renew it, I need to also renew my medical clearance. Which means I am going to need come clean about this knee injury I've incurred in the meantime. It is not terrible - I can actually still PT and have passed my PT tests. It limits my range of motion. I can run and do most activities, except probably not things like an obstacle course or combatives, etc. At the moment, I am fit to serve, but not fit to train, but I'm confident I will be when I finally get a class date (near the end of FY 25).
Should I be worried about renewing my med. clearance? In my current state, I probably would not have been passed at MEPS. I'm worried about this delaying my class date even further or, even worse, getting medically disqualified from the Guard altogether. One additional wrinkle: the MRI showed "mild osteoarthritis" with a few osteophytes present. I am an older guy and apparently this kind of thing is normal. I don't suffer from arthritis pain or anything.
Thoughts?
Is it possible for the Air Force to offer more spots/fill positions even after board results are released? I found out yesterday I wasn’t selected but my recruiter mentioned something about extending spots possibly??? So is it possible that a non select could in fact be offered a spot later on?
So I just got accepted into a unit in Indiana in the reserves, my MPF isn’t really telling me what comes next. I’m assuming that I am awaiting an OTS date. Does anyone have any recommendations or cautionary tales, tips for OTS?
