I don’t expect anyone to read the hole thing but if anyone who has served or is serving could verify or deny the specialist role you can do once your in the raf regt I would appreciate it thanks. This is copied and pasted from ChatGPT
The RAF Regiment offers a variety of specialist roles that go beyond the core responsibility of providing force protection and airfield defense. These roles involve additional training and responsibilities, and they are designed to enhance the capabilities of the RAF Regiment in different operational environments.
Here are the main specialist roles within the RAF Regiment:
Gunner
• Role: The core role of the RAF Regiment. Gunners are responsible for airfield defense, patrols, combat operations, and ensuring the safety of RAF personnel and equipment. • Specialist Training: After basic training, gunners receive specialized training in weapons systems, battlefield tactics, and airfield defense operations.
RAF Regiment Paratrooper
• Role: Paratroopers in the RAF Regiment are trained to be part of rapid-response airborne operations. They provide force protection and airfield security in hostile environments, often deploying with the RAF’s airborne forces (such as in a combat drop or rescue mission). • Specialist Training: They complete Parachute Training at the Parachute Training School in the UK, which qualifies them to jump from aircraft and deploy quickly in support of special operations or rapid-response missions.
RAF Regiment Mortar Gunner
• Role: Mortar gunners specialize in operating mortar systems to provide indirect fire support. They play a key role in supporting ground troops with long-range fire during combat. • Specialist Training: They are trained to use 120mm mortars, along with tactics and procedures for providing artillery-style fire support for ground operations.
RAF Regiment Vehicle Driver/Operator
• Role: This role involves driving and operating a range of military vehicles, including armored vehicles, to provide force protection and mobility in operational zones. It can also involve operating specialized vehicles for specific tasks, such as recovery operations or transporting high-value assets. • Specialist Training: Additional training is provided in driving armored vehicles, convoy operations, and defensive driving techniques in a variety of terrains.
RAF Regiment Sniper
• Role: Snipers in the RAF Regiment are responsible for providing precision long-range fire to neutralize enemy personnel or equipment, as well as gathering intelligence and spotting targets for other units. • Specialist Training: They undergo rigorous sniper training to learn advanced marksmanship, stealth, and surveillance techniques. They are trained in long-range shooting, fieldcraft, and target identification.
RAF Regiment Combat Medical Technician (CMT)
• Role: These specialists provide medical support in combat situations. They are trained to provide first aid, trauma care, and evacuation in hostile environments, often under fire. • Specialist Training: Combat Medics receive advanced medical training in battlefield care, evacuation techniques, and operating in remote or dangerous locations. They are essential for casualty evacuation (CASEVAC) and battlefield medical assistance.
RAF Regiment Weapons and Tactics Instructor
• Role: These specialists are responsible for training RAF Regiment personnel in the use of weapons, combat tactics, and operational procedures. They may also be involved in developing training programs and assessing the readiness of troops. • Specialist Training: Extensive training in various weapons systems, military tactics, and advanced combat techniques.
RAF Regiment Armorer
• Role: Armorers are responsible for maintaining, repairing, and ensuring the operational readiness of all weapons and firearms used by the RAF Regiment. They also handle ammunition management and weapon storage. • Specialist Training: Armorers receive training in weapon maintenance, repair, and the safe handling and distribution of military firearms.
RAF Regiment Explosive Ordnance Disposal (EOD)
• Role: EOD specialists are responsible for identifying, disarming, and safely disposing of explosive devices and ordnance. This can include mines, unexploded bombs, and IEDs encountered in conflict zones. • Specialist Training: EOD personnel receive highly specialized training in bomb disposal, mining techniques, and safe handling of explosive materials.
RAF Regiment Airfield Damage Repair (ADR)
• Role: This role involves rapidly repairing airfields and runways that have been damaged by enemy action or other circumstances. These repairs are essential for keeping RAF air operations running in wartime conditions. • Specialist Training: Personnel are trained in engineering techniques, runway repair, and damage control to restore airfield operations quickly.
RAF Regiment Signals Operator
• Role: Signals operators ensure communications between RAF Regiment units and other military branches are maintained, including setting up and operating communication equipment in the field. • Specialist Training: They undergo training in military communication systems, radio operation, and maintaining secure communication networks in the field.
RAF Regiment Force Protection Specialist
• Role: These specialists focus on protecting personnel and assets, particularly in high-threat environments. They can be involved in a variety of defensive operations, including patrols, checkpoints, and perimeter security. • Specialist Training: These roles involve further advanced defensive tactics, counter-terrorism techniques, and risk management.
She may not be perfect but she’ll turn a few heads.

Probably a stupid question but just wanted to know what the foods like throughout basic training at Halton? I usually stick to eating foods high in protein along with fruit and veg and wondered if I could stick to that during basic training or not
Hello all
Quick question, I am about 3 weeks off of starting phase 2 and was wondering as the gyms are free. Could I be able to go to any active base, show my id and use the gym?
Hello all
Gonna book on some AT next year
Just wondering for those who have done AT
What was your favourite trip?
For those who have done both eagles and army at, what did you prefer and why?
Hi all,
Unsure whether this is the best place to ask, I'm currently looking for my great grandfather's service record however I know nothing of the RAF's organisational structure and was wondering if anyone could be of help? I have been told that he was an electrician, so assumed I should search up Royal Engineers, but I can't find any RAF specific information. Thanks!
These are my results from last year. I am resitting my DAA in 2 weeks as I did not quite get the score I needed 1 year ago for the Aircraft technician avionics role. Has anyone got any advice on what I can do to prepare for this exam? I am using the app, bbc bite size and other books/sites like how2become, any revision tips and advice would be amazing thank you :)
I fully appreciate no one is medically trained to accurately answer this question, but a good one for those looking to practice their verbal reasoning.
According to the screenshot above, am I correct in saying that those diagnosed with asthma that have NOT experienced symptoms in the preceding year will be deemed FIT.
Conversely, those who DO NOT have asthma currently, but have received specialist/secondary healthcare regarding their childhood asthma will now be UNFIT?
I believe the above is correct but it seems somewhat contradictory.
TIA
Does anyone know what the timeframe is with this test. I've been practicing by estimating angles but sometimes it takes me a while to get the answer right. Just wanted to know whether its a case of answer all the questions as fast as you possibly can or if you have maybe 5 - 10 seconds to think about each one. Any info would be much appreciated. Thanks
Anyone had TG1 promotion offer through?
Hi everyone,
I applied for a reservist role and had my medical in October. I was made TMU due to high blood pressure, but this has since been resolved. My GP monitored my blood pressure three times over two weeks, and the results were normal.
However, I’ve been informed that I need to undergo a limited medical appointment, which is supposed to be booked by the Medical Fitness Booking Team at RAF Cranwell. It’s been three weeks, and I haven’t heard anything yet.
Does anyone know how to get in touch with the Medical Fitness Booking Team at Cranwell? Or has anyone else experienced delays like this?
Any advice would be much appreciated. Thanks!
Is it safe to drop out of college when waiting for my apprenticeship within the RAF or should I keep attending college, I have completed my DAA and got the score that I wanted however I don’t know if that secures your place in the RAF. I have been training for my fitness test and practicing for my interview. But I don’t know if I’m guaranteed a job? From what I know my medical history has been fine as-well.
I already done a post before about the Cbat but I got another question if anyone could answer it . When looking at the rules for SDT parcel is says round up (0.50) round down (0.49) for example if the distance was 600 but the speed was 620kmh would I round that up to just being 1 hour or would I still but 58 minutes
Hello all, just looking for an insight into what the Offer of service event is. Is this another interview and if so what are the questions I need to prepare for?
First time posting on here so my bad if I get anything wrong, but my appeal has just been rejected about the decision given at my medical and I’m in a tough situation. I failed for having a ‘significant bunion/hallux valgus deformity affecting the toe, which was noted to sit in a position overlapping the adjoining toe’. Looking at it, you can see it’s different to the other toe but I believe it’s not ‘overlapping’ more just about touching it. The letter says that because it’s ’over-riding’ I ‘may be prone to foreseeable issues like arthritis’ and it ‘could cause discomfort with military footwear in the long term’. I’m 19 and it’s never caused me issues ever and I’ve played football and other sports all my life. I’m now unsure about taking the gamble and seeing if I get my doctor to either confirm or deny that it’s ’overlapping’ or ‘over-riding’ and if they don’t think it is, then get that down in a letter. However in the JSP 950 it mentions being referred to the single-Service Occupational Physician if there is no over-ridding and I wondered, IF the doctor’s letter says they don’t think it’s overlapping, then could I send that back to them and it might give me a chance of meeting the physician and have a small chance of being deemed fit or is it already a little too late and should call it a day. I know that it’s a pretty niche question/subject but any help or advice would be appreciated as I just feel stuck.
Hi everyone,
I’m really worried about my friend who’s currently in the raf. She’s been experiencing sexual harassment from a coworker: he touches her inappropriately when no one is looking, at the bar on base and won’t stop messaging her online. She’s reported it before but nothing came of it. Instead of action being taken, they were put in a room together in front of their manager and told to work through this “bump” and he got away with it.
It’s only getting worse and she refuses to report it again because she says no one will help or believe her. I’m really scared for her mental health. I remember the story of the army girl who committed suicide over something like this on the news a while ago and I can’t bear the thought of something like that happening to my friend.
I suggested she transfer to another base or office building but she told me that’s not an option for her. I don’t want to push her too hard but I also don’t want her to feel stuck in a bad place and unsupported.
I wanted to ask here if anyone has advice I could pass on to her. Has anyone been in a similar situation, especially in the raf or another part of the military? What did you do?
Thank you in advance for any guidance.
Hi folks
For the OASC interview, to what degree is Space Power needed? Is it something that they would want in-depth knowledge of like air power?
Thanks
Is a swim test still part of the PGSC because I’m getting mixed answers online some saying it is and some saying the opposite?
I am someone who is looking into joining the RAF and would like some advice as to what you think may suit me best. I have had decent grades throughout my time at school and college, from subjects like business, sport and law (college). After this, I recently graduated with a 2:1 in Film and Television Studies from university, which is very much media-adapted.
I consider myself a fit individual who frequently goes to the gym and plays football, with a passion for a new challenge and exciting career.
I was looking in AP1358 regarding the wearing of medals.
I am trying to find out if a policy states anywhere when you are entitled to wear a medal? When I ask this I mean, once a medal appears on JPA, am I able to get the ribbon put onto my uniform and wear miniatures for mess dress or wear replicas whilst I wait for it to be issued in person which in my experience can sometimes take many months?
Is there a JSP or AP which states this as I didn’t see anything in AP1358.
Currently at RAF Marham and does anyone here have personal wifi, I’ve rang up bt which someone directed me to but they said they’d have to call an engineer to come check the lines and they only offer about 60mbps. Just wondering if anyone on another other bases has personal wifi or had experience with using bt on base.
How do I change my education history? I have already filled it in however got it sent back to me to fill out again but it won’t let me change it. Does anyone know how to?
Anyone know what kind of travel opportunities are available is your put on a Poseidon squadron? Thanks
My boy is in phase 2. In January he’ll be in Portsmouth for about 8 weeks. Then Brize Norton for roughly 8 weeks. In the meantime, he would like to learn to drive. He has saved up for a car & with a little help from Mum & Dad we hope to get him his first car. He is 20 years old and the insurance is sky high.
How can we sort out his insurance if he is all over the place during training,
Is there a company that will insure RAF personnel?
Will the RAF teach him to drive?(he wants to be a paramedic)
Should he wait until A. he is posted. B crack on with the lessons.
Thank you in advance for gems of wisdom. 🏥
Prepping for OASC now and iv seen a lot of conflicting answers about current affairs.
How many do we need to learn? 5/10? How many local/international?
Cheers
ey guys I've been looking at the CBAT verbal logic test on the CBAT TMI website and was trying to think of ways to prepare for it. I ended up trying to use chat GPT to give me some information and questions that are similar to what is reflected on CBAT TMI. Does anyone have any input on whether this is a good strategy or at all similar to the difficulty of the real thing. I have some examples below. Thanks
Hello, so on the raf site for mechanical technician apprentice it takes you a link to the qualifications you get during your time. Underneath apprenticeships available and you go on view full details it takes you to a website called ifate and once you go on it gives you the options for each apprenticeship. Now, essentially what im asking is there's different pathways pearson btec, EAL and military C and G. Do you get to choose your pathway or is it assigned to you?
just wondering if anyone knows what i need on DAA for weapons technician , or what results they got to allow them for that role to be offered.
Service transferring and can’t wait!
