Hello Chappies,
I've heard some rumors and seen some changes to the RAF Fitness standards (on the website) however I have also heard that they may try to replace the old fitness test with a new one.
Can someone please update me on the correct news and fitness standards as I not sure what to start preparing on, due to the changes of the fitness tests (to the point that you only really have to run and not have to perform pressups and situps.)
Thanks and have a good evening!
After just doing my CBAT I've been given a dilemma, do I continue my application with IntO or WSO.
IntO appeals to me giving presentations and monitoring etc. However aircrew on a Posidon sounds amazing hahaha.
Any thoughts or information to help my decision would be much appreciated.
With SDR25 looming closer what would you optimistically like to see and what do you pessimisticly expect.
Tempest, NMW, accommodation etc.
Preparing for my OASC Interview as I am sure many are! Would anyone want to do Microsoft teams revision sessions (if that is allowed). Always think it's good to bounce ideas/work together to reach the common goal and test each others knowledge!
Please correct if not allowed or if it's allowed please feel free to DM me.
Hi all,
A quick question to see if anyone can’t point me in the right direction of the latest medical requirements? (documents or information)
I ask because I know many people get held up at the medical stage for things that may seem trivial (that’s not to say they are!). I’ve heard there’s been something of a relaxation on asthma/eczema etc… Now presumably, someone using an inhaler or suffering with eczema currently will still be considered UNFIT; but someone diagnosed with childhood asthma and 25+ years clear of inhaler use/symptoms? Seems unnecessary to dig to deep into that - this is me.
I should mention, I have been in the service before (RN) but I left in 2010 and have for a long time been considering rejoining and anticipate little to no issues but I remember the asthma question holding things up in the past.
Anyway, I’m waffling now. So in short, do we anticipate the new MSL reading something along the lines of ‘Asthma symptoms or inhaler use in the last X years?’
I’m sure responses here will be beneficial to many who are worrying about something like this holding up their application.
I know that you can have tattoos but as long as they aren’t offensive and not on your face but can you get neck tattoos if they aren’t visible from the front view?
Hello, I've got my Shine interview coming up for Wsop, I was wondering how much detail for each training phase you need to know. I've seen some people on this reddit mention going into day by day or week by week for the OASC interview, is this required for the shine interview. Ty
I’m looking at joining the RAF and becoming an Air traffic and weapons controller (feel free if you know the day to day role also comment about that) but I’m currently a level 1 snowboard instructor with BASI and looking at getting my level 2 with the Canadian system (CASI). Is this beneficial for when I apply/when i’m in if I do get in?
Hi all,
After a lengthy process with Capita and a paper review yesterday. I have now been referred to DOM.
How longs a piece string I know but anyone had any experience with being referred and how long it takes to hear back? I’ve heard it could take months.
Background - Ex serving member left Sep2023. While in service had ear operation which carried on into civvy street. Got all letters etc to say hearing and operation is all good post operation and capita have all this but yet.. Referred to DOM 🤷♂️
Do you get feedback on your shine interview even when it's a pass or is it purely just a pass?
Heard a rumour this new fitness test is actually yet to be signed off on?
Not really a personal concern but does that mean someone’s jumped the gun reference introducing it all at the point of entry?
Would explain why I’ve seen nothing formal on MODnet.
Edit: I’m speaking about at unit. Not BRTC or PJFT. Looks like the fitness test is here to stay for everyone else for the foreseeable.
Hi everyone, I recently just completed my suitability interview for the Air ops system officer role (Switched from IntO), and my interviewer cut it short as I did not have an in-depth knowledge of the role, and has said I should go away to do more research and come back when I am ready. Problem is, I contacted the Air ops branch email prior to my interview for research and I had a zoom interview which gave me more information than what was available on the RAF website, all of which I learnt, but this was not enough detail. More specifically, he wanted to know more about what I would be specifically taught in my phase two streamed surveillance, not just the names of the courses/modules, and what I would also be doing within a bunker at Boulmer, which I also seemed to lack knowledge on. If there are any air ops system officers that could assist me on my research I would more than grateful. Alternatively, if anyone knows of where I should look for more details, that would also be quite appreciated. Definitely came as shock as I thought I prepared quite well, but I know I have to just take it on the chin and keep going with it. TIA.
I had my interview this morning and happy to say I passed! If anyone needs any help or has any questions, fire away! I’d be happy to help.
Anyone know if your Ex Army Regular and Ex Army Reservist do you have to sit the DAA Test for RAF Reserves, if the roles are pretty much like for like (Infantry To RAF Regiment). This is not a transfer but a rejoiner situation albeit different service obviously.
Would there be a requirement to do Phase 1 & 2 baring in in mind already being formerly a trained soldier with experience. Any info is appreciated.
Hi all,
Just a quick one, I’ve just passed my PJFT this week, and so I believe my next stage is a specialisation interview followed by my offer of service.
But was wanting to know what is the current pay at Halton and moreover what are the deductions you pay out? What’s the current rate for accommodation and food whilst at BRTC?
So I am about to do the DAA test next week and I got a job offer. I do want to go to the royal airforce and I don’t really know how long it takes from doing the DAA to phase one(I’m not assuming I’ll pass the test I am revising a lot) Tdlr: is it worth it to get a job just before the DAA
Hi, so I spoke to a recruiter at an AFCO a while back and he touched on some of the travelling opportunities i.e. being stationed and not adventure training. He mentioned there's potentially the opportunity to be stationed in America for 3 years, just wondering how often these opportunities arise and if anyone could give the locations within America that this usually takes place? Cheers.
Hello,
Does anyone know L/Cpl pay would be for a Gunner?
I’m on the Armed Forces pay scales but unsure which rank/level it would fall on? Is it OR-2-8/9 or OR-3-3?
Also I’m assuming Cpl pay would be at the bottom of the scale at £37,861?
http://www.armedforces.co.uk/rafpayscales.php#google_vignette
Does anyone know how long it can realistically take to reach those ranks?
Thanks!
would I have to go to university whilst in the raf or is it optional would I have the chance to
Hi all, I am interested in joining the RAF as a pilot through an apprenticeship. I am confused about the 2 A levels you need, it says "excluding general studies" and "critical thinking".
I am currently on my second year of college doing something unrelated to piloting (I am doing animation and illustration). I am not sure if this A level will allow me to join the RAF or if i need to do something else like aviation.
I really hope not though, as I only have one year left that I'd be able to do another course for free and i really do not want to wait too long to try join the RAF.
Any help is greatly appreciated!
Hiya,
I’ve been speaking to both family and family friends who have spent time in Fleet Air Arm and the RAF as pilots and there seems to be a common occurrence. This is that almost all of them have had a scholarship to fly with the RAF in which they got their full license payed for by the RAF in which that helped them go on to get in both services. I was wondering if this is just a cadets thing or if it’s something you can write to them about (as I see nothing online about it)
Another thing that came up was POAC (Potential Officers Acquaintance Course) with the RN. Once again I can’t find anything about this online, maybe because it’s stopped or it’s only a cadets thing opportunity perhaps?
Any info about these would be appreciated
I’m Christian and curious on what support there is for religion in the raf
Hi all
I’ve recently applied for the dental nurse position, on my portal it says “Role change review”? Does anyone know what this means?
Thank you!
I have just received my medical appointment date. However with the opticians report, do I have to provide the report ONLY if I wear glasses or lenses or just provide one anyway.
Thanks
Hello all, I was made TMU just under 3 months ago and was awaiting capital to review my medical records. I have just had new date to retake my medical However, I am unsure if this is in response to the new fitness test requirements, or Capita have reviewed my documents. I suppose my question is (if anyone can answer) will the doctor be aware of my TMU status?
What’s the accom/ gym like at marham? Or just the camp in general. Cheers
Hi so my next step is the Other Rank Selection Interview. and i have some questions to prepare for it.
what topics do I need to focus on revising and memorizing. Also what should I wear on the day because I don't own a suit or at least one that fits me and my aptitude test/ presentation was smart casual so im stumped. the date for it hasn't been set yet but having some idea of stuff would take alot of stress so I can get what needs to be done
I was under the impression that the interview was a very formal event and that wearing a suit was expected if not required But I have just had my selection interview invite where it says the dress code is smart casual. Should I still go with a suit or will this be looked down on for not following the instructions? One of my family members seems to think a tie would be too formal and I’m not really sure what would be best. Thanks for any advice.
