For those of us who serve in the rain, snow, heat, wind, and cold. For those of us who love Air Base Defense or Police Work. For those of us who hate Air Base Defense or Police Work. This is a subreddit to share some love, some hate, some pics, some stories, perhaps a video, and most importantly a bond that no other group of men and women can relate to.
HEY LOOK HERE Yes, you civilians, read this post!. Also, Here's a FAQ

for context in May of 2020 i dad passed away and in june of 2020 i had a physical which the initially diagnosed me with depression. i was prescribed medication but never took it since i knew the source of the depression so i just gave it time. would the waiver for depression only help get into the military or will it help for job qualification as well?
EDIT: i was only prescribed them one time and never got any refills or anything along the lines of that (i still have the original unopened bottle 90 ct)
A bit of context. I’ve been looking to join the military for a while now, I had to get some wavers in order to go to MEPS. Whilst this was going on I started getting discouraged about joining the armed forces; so I started job hunting.
I landed a job as a corrections officer I work a Panama shift schedule and don’t find it to be too bad. Neither does my wife. The problem I read about the most with the security forces is the hours. With my experience with Corrections’s so far I don’t think it’s much different.
We are understaffed, work long hours, as well as having to go for mandatory overtime and training on our days off in particular. Our leadership is a mess and we really have no proper protocol in place right now for anything that goes on within the walls. (They’ve been “revising” the protocol for around 1 1/2 years now)
Is there anything I may not be prepared for in security forces?
Next year i will be seperating at 10 years, long story short I’ve completely fallen out of love with serving and law enforcement im sure others have done this as well. My question is what did you guys do when you got out job/career wise? I want nothing to do with guard/reserve or law enforcement. (Yes i know i fucked myself for picking security forces when i joined)
The USAF shippers discord mention that they are extending security forces tech school to 93 days? Has anyone here heard of this?
Can someone tell me about daily activities of camp buliss?
how hard will it be to get these bases if you volunteer for it? from what i’ve read most people who get orders here are basically forced ive only read a couple where they actually wanted to go.
Anyone been stationed there? How’d yall like it?
Commissioning out for ROTC in a year. I was wondering what SF tech school was like for officers? I’ve heard it’s similar to the enlisted side but with some “leadership flair”. If anyone has a general pipeline breakdown, that would be much appreciated.
Also, if you wanna provide any advice to an aspiring SF officer, that would be awesome!
Thanks!
Hey so I graduate in 2 weeks on the 29th. I was wondering how soon I can leave because I plan to drive back with family but don’t want them to wait around San Antonio the whole week if I can’t leave until Friday of that week.
Hey guys I've just sworn into DEP and am considering joining SECFO solely bc i eventually want to do dagre, how that work, is it something i can for sure tryout for later down the line if so at what point is that. if anyone is in or had previously done or knows some who has done dagre pls reach out to me. thanks
Hey yall I booked SF and ship for bmt on May. I was told that they make you do a second physical either at bmt or tech school for jobs like SF or fire protection. If thats true, do they check your blood pressure and some stuff you’d do like in MEPS? thx for any comment
I want to get a job that I could like enough to retire from so would it be worth going security forces or fire protection
I’m still a year away from enlisting and I wanted to know what job opportunities are available in your first contact. I know I need to do my dues and I won’t be handed anything but I still would like to know what I can look forward to and what I can work towards. Thanks.
So I'm stationed at Incirlik, turkey, and got my next base to Ramstein in the 86th. However, I heard different opinions on the base. Some people say it's a good base; others say it kind of sucks job-wise, but the traveling is good. I will be out of the military in 1.4 years, and I will have to extend my contract by 20 months in order to accept my orders. I would appreciate it if some Security Force members who have been to Ramstein could tell me if it's worth it going, or should I get out?
what are the chances of getting a base like moody or dyess over any AFGCS? i’m really wanting an AMC base but im not sure if those bases are high picks or not
Just wanna ask around and see what should I be doing to be physically prepared for tech school. Currently lifting heavy 3 days a week + cardio and lighter lifting 2 days a week. 1.5 mile averaging at about 10:40. Anything physically I should watch out for?
Have any of you or anyone you know thought about cross training or did cross training already? If so how open is your leadership to that?
I’m not gonna lie, this field isn’t for me. I want to cross train at the end of the year. What’s the best fields to look into?
Hey guys! I’m going to this base as security forces, anyone have some extra info? Thank you !!
Hey guys! I’m going to this base as security forces, anyone have some extra info? Thank you !!
Just found out my first assignment will be in North Dakota… any advice?
Can you do zyns in tech school here? I hear some people say you can at phase 3, some you can’t at all, etc. it doesn’t say anything in the SSI about nicotine and the correct phase other than:you’re not allowed to do it during the duty day and you have to be 21+. I’m pretty sure everyone in school rn is at phase 1 but if you’re over 21 can u still do zyns after the day is done? Very confusing SSI, and no MTL includes “no nicotine” when they tell us not to get in trouble like for drinking in phase 1. They don’t event think twice to include nicotine consumption when they say no funny business like phase one drinking. Only thing they say is not til ur 21.
My 1st station after tech school is Kirrtland NM. Anyone are there? I have some questions :
That’s all!
Lost out on my dream job due to depth perception at MEPS. (EOD) I was always interested in Security Forces but didn't like the idea of being a cop. I understand gate duty is a thing which I don't mind. Just wanted to know if it's true that they are moving away from Law Enforcement and more towards Base Defenders? If so I may out the job further up on my list if not I may consider another branch all together.
Can someone share about how does SF tech school schedule look like ? Any test ,exam and how to pass ? Thanks
Hey I ship out to BMT next Tuesday for Security Forces, but I was wondering what the shifts look like and how many hours a day I will be working. I've heard some say 8 hour days and some say 12 hour days. Also, how many days off do you get? Is it a regular Monday-Friday? Do you work all seven days? I appreciate any answers so I can know what im going into. Thank you.
Just switched over from Army Guard to Air Guard. Finished my Tech School in December. On MEST for 30 days working upstairs with my full time staff. AF is very new to me so I'm just trying to figure out what to prioritize as far as admin, CBTs, etc.. Mostly I'm just focused on getting my 5 level.
Any Ravens that just came through the school?
We have two Members going and I want to know what is expected of them and how the school has changed
Has anyone gotten the T-3 waiver approved to not post a 249 for permanently assigned PL-3 resources?
