My child has been dealing with this process for over a year now. I know sometimes it takes longer but the recruiter has the dropped the ball so many times. The last instance, November 12, he gave a job list and stated it had to returned by 5pm. Done. Comes back a few days later stating that there’s a job that ships out on mid December. Need to decide in 20 minutes. Done, job accepted. Goes to MEPS signs contract, Nov 18. My child happened to have some follow-up and called the recruiter, who nonchalantly stated they couldn’t do that job. Recruiter sent a letter dated November 1, with jobs that are exempt due to asthma waiver.
At this point, my child is fed up and no longer wants to join. They went through the motions of being sad to ship soon then excited to start the new journey to disappointment. Should they changed and get a different recruiter.
The Air Force websites states "Completion of 24 semester hours of business related subjects" as one of the qualifications. Is this something you need to have before enlisting or do you get it in tech school? Thank you for your time!
Do people get curtains or wear something in the showers or no
Hey there, I met someone in the Air Force that told me after a year, you can put in for transfers overseas to open positions. But what is the likelihood of actually getting transferred, even more so to where you want to be? I was in Japan for 3 years and lived in Fussa (by Yokota Airbase in Japan) and would like to possibly move back with the military. Korea is another one I'd be interested in.
Is the likelihood somewhere between none and zilch, is it just idk....10-40% chance, or can it be higher than that? I'd try to go in as an officer (if available) since I have a degree (BS in Business, graduated summa cum laude). I'm 35 years old and have the JLPT N4 (Japanese language cert), and am right by the Air Force Academy in Colorado, if that makes any difference
Can you do air traffic control in the air guard?
Just finished MEPS, the two jobs i’m looking at are security forces and ground transportation for the National Guard. If I go security forces my future goal would to attend Raven school in a few years. Is attending Raven even possible for National guard? If so how would I go about getting selected for Raven? Ground transportation would be my second job choice but it seems a little bit less exciting as a job but it stood out to me so i’m looking for anyone who has more info about this job as well. Thanks!
I'm planning on enlisting and going to take the ASVAB soon. Making my job list in advance and then take out the ones I don't qualify for later on. I have a bachellors in it and puting cyber jobs, but want to put other non-cyber jobs too.
I'm thinking fire protection since I always wanted to be a firefighter. I know its a rare job and hard to get. But what is it like to have that job in the USAF? How often are deployments? Whats a typical day at work? Is it a good option for the civilian world?
Thanks in advance
Is there a certain amount of time that you are supposed to be off of antidepressants before you can enlist? I have been off of them for 6+ years at this point and I don’t struggle with those issues anymore since then. Is that gonna set me back at all?
Edit: I believe this is gonna be my biggest set back at MEPS
I've done my MEPs but waiting on my waiver to get approved for taking antidepressants about 4yrs ago. Provided my pharmacy records and all. I was just told by my recruiter that I need to go back to MEPS for a psych consultation. That's a good thing right? Is it just talking to a psych doc?
Looking to enlist for 4 years but im looking ahead to be proactive. Im interested in doing something in plumbing after the 4 years is up is there anything i can do in the air force that translates well into civilian world that has to do with plumbing?
Hi,
Has anyone in this thread managed to land the Paralegal job? I want that AFSC and am going through the job application process now, but I was wondering what the average WPM and Accuracy you may have achieved to be selected for this job.
I am currently at 54 WPM with a 97% accuracy.
I just wanted to say that I’m finally leaving for BMT this coming Tuesday!
And also wanted to say thank you to everyone who gave advice over the course of the past year. You’ve all been extremely helpful and got me to pull my head out of my ass in one instance. 😂
I’m nervous, but I figure everyone who’s going to BMT is feeling the same way I am.
If anyone else is leaving this week, I’ll see you there!
Does anyone have any last bit of advice before I go in?
Sorry the picture is so blurry. Anyone work these jobs at all and have some insight? I know there’s a lot lol
I recently sent my assignment preference to my recruiter. I think I’ll be cool with anything from 1-4, but I’m wondering if I should have made Nellis my #3 instead of my #4. I’m not really sure about Fairchild AFB. I was deciding between Fairchild or JBSA Lackland, but went with Fairchild because I’m not too sure about Texas. I’ve visited Travis a few time and while it seemed like it was out in the middle of nowhere, it’s a close enough drive to some cities with decently priced housing; I’m looking more into Vallejo. I’m not sure how things are like in Tacoma or Seattle but the housing in Las Vegas seems decent.
Just wondering who else is leaving Feb 25th for bmt?
I'm 37 F and I ship out to BMT December 30th. Just seeing if there's others on here that ships out the same time?
E-4, projected E-5. 4 years TIS, 21 years old, 1 deployment, 3 PCS's AMA
For reference I had gone to my recruiter the 17th and submitted my medical documents and am waiting for him to get a response from med read so he can schedule a meps date for me. How long can it take if I dont have any health issues and don't require waivers?
I have a job booked and a basic date but I did some research and found you can get reclassified in basic if you don’t meet all the requirements. I’ve also read that someone else didn’t have a license for a different job when on the website it said it was needed and he still passed everything and got his job. I really don’t wanna lose this job for a maintenance job in the middle of basic. Does anyone have any insight?
-Reason I’m asking is because I got mobility force aviator. Heading out in a couple months.
-Also what does the schedules look like for these jobs? I could get FE, load, or boom.
-What do these jobs do when they are not flying or loading, and how much do they fly.
-Do I get a say so in what aircraft I will be on. If so which should I go for??!!
-And I am having difficulty figuring out where I could potentially be stationed, with these jobs.
-Any links or info would help! I want load, but will be satisfied with either of these flying jobs Thankyou
Hi! Sorry, but I am writing this on behalf of my son who does not have access to his phone. He was honest with his recruiter about mental health issues when he was in middle school. It was short lived. He wanted to be emo for a bit to fit in with a girl he liked, she broke up with him, he immediately snapped out of it and never had those issues again. He was 11 years old and being ridiculous. He did go to therapy back then and took meds although he claims he wouldn't really take them and just wanted the meds to show the girl. I know it sounds insane. But he was 11. He told his recruiter that he was prescribed them. He told them at Meps. They cleared him. Now, at boot camp, he gets told he cannot do his chosen field. He had a 99 on his ASVAB. He said he will get a new job or separated? Is there a way around this?? Will he likely be separated? He told them about this so if it was an issue why did they take him in the first place? ??
Hey guys I need advice on loosing weight. For context I'm male 5' 10" and 210lbs and have been the same weight for 6 years. I passed meps with the tape test but I was pushing it they said. I leave for basic April 8th and need to be under 191lbs.
Swore into meps about 2 weeks ago. It's the 1st of December today with new jobs opening. How long will it take to get shipped??
I’m currently active duty Navy Security Forces and am interested in swapping to Air Force Security Forces as my wife is active duty AF and joint spouse would be significantly easier if I switched, I have hand tattoos that are rather large and am wondering if that’s just an absolute no-go and I would need to remove them or it’s one of those where there’s a will there’s a way waivers as I’d rather not remove them unless absolutely necessary. I have a perfect good conduct record with no NJP or disciplinary action as well as a 70 on my ASVAB, any advice or help would be great!
It might be odd but I am looking forward to 12 hours shifts where nothing gets done other that a wrench being thrown across the shop. What is the big issue with maintenance gigs? All jobs are important so what makes maintenance so undesirable?
I'm looking to join the AF for personal reasons and to further give me a leg up in a future IT career. Do certifications like this get considered when they assign you a job?
Thanks
I'm (23m) graduating from university with a BS in chemistry in 3 weeks. I'm now facing a pitiful job market in an industry I don't want to be in (long story but chem kinda sucks). All of the jobs I've applied to have next to no benefits and pay is <45000/yr in the most expensive states. I want to be saving for either a second bachelors or masters in mechanical engineering but it just doesn't seem feasible to save enough to pay for it anytime soon. Best case scenario is I move back in with my parents IF I find a job that's local. I love my parents, but I don't want to live with them longer than I have to.
I keep coming back to the idea of joining the Air Force, the benefits are too good to ignore considering my options. While I technically qualify for OTS, most of the jobs I'm interested in (cyber/intelligence) are hard to come by and have long waiting times. The other commissioned officer jobs outside of this don't interest me and I don't want to be stuck in a position I don't like cause it defeats the purpose of why I'm considering this. There are far more enlisted jobs I'm interested in that would likely not take as long to get to, and enlisted pay with benefits pretty much matches or exceeds what I'd find in industry with my current degree. To wrap up I have a couple questions:
Is joining primarily for benefits the wrong reason to join? I have other reasons, but this is the main one.
Should I even consider enlisted over commissioned officer given my circumstances? I would really only stay probably 4-6 years depending on my job.
I'm really conflicted about this choice, but I can't think of a lot of downsides other than giving up on chemistry despite the work I've put into it.
I've probably left out details, but I appreciate any response.
For context I’m about a year and a half away from graduating college with a bachelor’s in aeronautical science, have a Commercial pilots license, and am currently studying as much as possible for the AFOQT. I’m working out 6 days a week to be as fit as possible for the job, and am continuing to fly to keep up handling skills. What can I do to set myself apart from other applicants? All I’ve ever wanted to do was serve my country in the best way I possible can, so any advice would be greatly appreciated!
My friend joined Space Force and I've been sending him letters while he's in basic.
What are some good things I can include in my letter? I've been sending some memes as well as news reports, but would it be useful for me to send him a weather forecast for what it's like in his area? Or do they already have access to the weather in basic? And if they don't, would he get in trouble if I sent him a picture of the weather forecast?
Thank you for any answers.
