Looking to build a nice stack off of these two. Any recs would be appreciated, I am looking for same era (early to mid 80s)
Based on my research these look to be early monitor 11s, the ones with the peerless tweeters. Any idea on value and how rare they are?
Anywhere besides Vinyl Engine I can pick up a free manual? It's not letting me log in, and all my details are correct. Cheers!
Super minty pair for $90. Based on my knowledge which is pretty adequate. Is a steal innit? Solid upgrade from a pair of bose 201's?
I just walked up and there’s this reel to reel sitting here. Pioneer RT-707. Don’t know much about these but I’m sure yall would. Works flawlessly. 30$ + tax, 32$. Would I make profit if I were to sell it?
Top is a Luxman C-12 and M-12 combo. Sort of the black sheep of Luxman’s Reference Series. Same topology and components but with a lower grade finish. Oddly, better specs. Not honored with the Reference moniker so, not TOTL.
Middle is a Marantz 1180. One or two steps down from TOTL depending on how you make the determination. TOTL here would be 1300.
Lower is a Kenwood KA 9100. Top of the *100 line, but not of the integrateds of Kenwood at the time, that would be the Supremes.
I have a Sansui AU 11000 in the garage waiting for repair. Nice, but they made an AU 20000.
These amps all sound great, have fabulous vintage swagger, and market price on them is anywhere from 30% to 5% of their respective TOTL siblings.
I'm seeing several appealing deals for Altec home speakers. Models are 508, and Model 9. Priced in the 150-200 range. Does anyone have any experience with them?
Hi all, I’m experiencing a crackling right channel on my Realistic STA-850. It appears on all inputs except AM, and goes away occasionally on its own or when “mono” is enabled. Any help as to what causes this and how to fix is much appreciated.
I’m working with an Elac Miracord 50 mounted on a Benjamin Stereo 1050, but none of that probably matters.
I’m having issues with the left channel while playing records. Radio and aux are fine on both channels, but the left channel on phono is muffled and static when on stereo. But, if I turn it on mono, it sounds fine out of both speakers - but it’s obviously only playing the right track.
I’ve tried playing around with the installation of the cartridge by removing and reinstalling, wiggling it around, all that. Nothing is really helping it. The cart only has maybe 40 hours on it. Maybe 1 time out of 10 plays it works ok.
Any advice?
I recently bought a Technics RS-M63 tape deck ($40), and after a bit of cleaning it's in good shape. A couple of days later I stumbled upon a SL-303 turntable in a dumpster. The belt was mush, so I bought a new one and as far as I can tell it works perfectly. These two units matches well, so now I want an amp to complete the set. Have been looking around, and found some options. I don't really care about having a tuner, but the amps with tuner from late 70s to early 80s look delicious.. So here are my options, prices are unset because auctions. What would be a realistic price to pay for these models?
SA-303K SU-Z2 SA-400K (This one has silver knobs, it bugs me a little. But... I can get over that, it's pretty. :) )
For years I have been bouncing between thrift store tape decks until I find the next better one or the one I have starts underperforming.
Are there a few basic things that can be done to generally improve performance of a tape player? Clean heads? Check/replace belts? Other things that are reasonable but effective?
I currently have an Onkyo CP-1010 turntable that I’ve had since it was new. But while I was skimming through Craigslist, I came across this Pioneer for sale at$400.
What should I be on the look out for with this device if I decide to for it?
Recently picked up a Luxman R115 and it sounds great, but something seems to be tripping a fuse and causing the amp to shut off, before cycling back around and attempting to turn back on. If the volume is lowered before it attempts to turn on, it’ll turn back on and if not it’ll shut back off. This happens if the volume is set at the 9 o clock position when my L36s are wired as the “A” speakers and closer to 11 o clock when they’re wired as the “B” speakers (min is 7 and max is 5 o clock). At the 9 o clock position, the speakers are only about 65-70 dB which is far from the limit of the speakers or the amp, so it wouldn’t make sense that it’s delivering too much power, it seems that something is causing a fuse to trip lower than it’s supposed to. I removed and visually checked the fuse accessible from the back, and it seems fine.
What can I try to fix this?
I just inherited a Sansui RA-500 and don’t know what to do with it. Wondering if I can hook it up directly to my Kanto Tuks in the available phono port? I was going to just plug it in and see, but I don’t want to damage anything if the reverb amp won’t work with my active speaker setup. TIA
when i go to tune the radio it only goes by 5’s (104.0-104.5 etc) is there any way to do precise tuning or am is it just stuck like that
These came up locally. I have zero need for them but that look is awesome.
I was just gifted this from a buddy. Seems to be working fine except for the left channel output is touchy. It goes in and out periodically like there's a loose connection, but speaker connection is good. It's like that with both A and B speakers. Turning the volume up and down seems to "fix" the issue for a bit. Any thoughts? Would bringing the unit in for a full tune-up be the way to go?
All the vintage gear I have (and all that I see) have a layer of some kind of corrosion or oxidation on the RCA connectors. It seems like something that should be dealt with.
Does anyone here have a method that works for them? I’ve thought of trying a Dremel with a brass brush, a pencil eraser or some kind of chemical and a scotch pad.
I’d imagine the hole for the center pin is in the same condition.
Happy Saturday morning from DC! I recently acquired a JVC 4vr-5446. I’m new to this hobby and am starting a restore on this unit. I was able to find the service manual and schematics on the internet archive but can only source the instructions/ owners manual at Hifi Engine. It seems like they are closed for new accounts so the docs aren’t available to download. Can anyone with an account help me access that document? I have included an obligatory (freshly relamped) picture of this green monster!
