Mmm bathwater
Amid the great British bands that have inspired the theme of this year’s National Album Day, Stereophonics continue to prove themselves to be one of the greatest. Originally formed in Cwmaman, South Wales, in 1992, the group, now consisting of Kelly Jones (vocals, guitar), Adam Zindani (guitar) Richard Jones (bass), Jamie Morrison (drums) and touring member Tony Kirkham (keyboards), made their mark with the Words Gets Around (UK No.6) and Performance and Cocktails (UK No.1) albums, and continued their chart-topping run with their third release, 2001’s Just Enough Education to Perform. Remaining at the top of the UK charts for two weeks, the album sold 140,000 copies on its way to becoming the fourth biggest-selling album in the UK in 2001. Re-entering the charts several times over the next three years, it would be certified six-times platinum and crowned the 39th best-selling album of the decade. With more than 400,000 copies sold to date and streaming figures sailing past the 340 million mark, Just Enough Education to Perform makes a welcome return to vinyl for this year’s National Album Day, in an exclusive, limited-edition green pressing. Beloved by fans, the album featured three Top 10 singles, ‘Mr. Writer’ and ‘Have a Nice Day’ making for a timeless work that fuels Stereophonics’ continued appeal. Still releasing music today, the group have continued their chart-topping streak, with their latest album, 2022’s Oochya!, becoming their eighth UK No.1 album
The #NationalAlbumDay list has just dropped! We've made a special playlist highlighting of some of this year's exciting releases.

What are your collection's physical oddities? Let's see 'em! (Thought I accidentally donated this one because I just had a clear out and couldn't find it, so I'm doing a victory lap)

Preordered the “bath water” filled Saltburn press. I’ve heard some things about liquid presses. I’ll never get the Friday the 13th one so I was excited for this one. I wasn’t expecting much aside from the novelty but it sounds great!
A bunch of soundtracks, Metal Gear Solid coloured box set, Lost box set (no We All Everybody though), Challengers, Scream 1 and 2, Evil Dead 2, Army of Darkness, the Evil Dead remake, Teen Wolf, and Howard the Duck. A few others peppered in as well—NIИ FDTS, Manson, Gaslight Anthem, White Zombie picture disc, and a Glass Animals zoetrope.
I helped a buddy’s parents move. In exchange they gave me an old trunk of records that neither of them had a use for anymore. I currently am using it as stand for my crosley gig turntable.
I plan on converting this to an all in one receiver, phonograph, cd, and cassette player with speakers and storage.
For now it sounds great, and I’ve posted a google drive link with photos of all the records I scored.
Seven Swans. Released March 16, 2004 by Sufjan Stevens through Asthmatic Kitty Records. This zeotrope was the 20th Anniversary Edition sold exclusively through their webstore early this summer. I held off purchasing this album after-market for years because I assumed this (or some form of a new edition) was coming eventually! I was stoked to pick up my first zeotrope vinyl and for being a picture disc my physical copy sounds effin amazing!!! Although I wish this came with the origami swans like the Dinked Edition did, this still came with a bonus flexi 7” of 2 bonus songs (also included in some older pressings) so glad it was re-done again for this pressing. Sufjan has gotten me through some hard issues: abuse, depression, sexuality, etc. Although I’m not a religious person myself the music and lyricism he creates will have you believing in a greater life purpose and see the positive side of life before you even finish Side A! Favorite tracks: To Be Alone With You, He Woke Me Up Again, The Transfiguration Thank you so much for all you do u/asthmatickitty
Top Gun is probably one of the best movies I've watched, and the music in the film is iconic, so I thought "why not look for the vinyl?" and so I tried looking for it on the streets but couldn't find anything. Four months later, I have the mood to buy a Japanese pressing of anything I like, and after 2 hours I choose a Japanese pressing of the OST, with obi, insert, sticker and the shrink still being on! After a few days, the vinyl came to my house and did not disappoint. Holy grail for Top Gun's discography. The record is probably closer to Mint than Near Mint, since everything seems untouched and the vinyl having no scratches at all; only downside is it being opened.
After nineteen years of collecting records, I’m proud to say that this is my collection. It’s a work in progress, though, as there are still records I need to add to Discogs. Unfortunately, I haven’t had the time to update my discogs collection yet, but I plan to do that as soon as possible. As for the collection itself, it mainly consists of hard rock and metal albums. I’ve always been passionate about this genre, and over the years, I’ve built a collection that reflects my deep interest in these styles of music.
Most of the records in my collection are bought from new, but buying secondhand is also a good thing and I must admit, I’ve become a bit addicted to the thrill of finding new pieces. Whether it’s scouring local record shops, visiting flea markets, or hunting online, there’s something special about discovering a rare album or stumbling upon an unexpected gem.
I enjoy not just listening to the albums but also diving into the history behind them There’s a certain nostalgia to vinyl that digital music can’t quite match. The tactile experience of flipping through records, the warmth of the sound, and the larger-than-life album artwork are all part of the appeal.
You'd think for someone who owns a record shop I'd have a lot more albums than this 🤣 but as much as I want to keep every album from every collection that comes through the door, it just wouldn't be possible, plus I definitely don't have the space! Still, not bad for someone in their early 30s! See if you can guess one of my top favourite artists just based on this 😂 also drop an album I'm missing that should absolutely be in my collection.
I’ve seen all these fun collage pics lately and thought I’d throw my meager collection into the pot. I know it’s all over the place, but I’m mildly eclectic in my musical tastes. The question is, what is something missing that really stands out? I’ve been collecting for real for a few years, but I’ve been in the habit of purchasing some of my all time favs on vinyl for decades. Love me some nineties if that isn’t relatively apparent. I am a GenXer so bear in mind some of these may be the 4th or 5th media variation I’ve purchased of each album 🤬🤣
Anywho enjoy!
Constantly growing. I have been collecting for about 15 years now. Obviously not as excessive as many others here. There are quite a few worthy first pressings as well as many rare ones and limited editions. Sometimes even two different pressings of the same record. I also love collecting records by artists I truly admire. So i have many records by Arctic Monkeys, The Who, Oasis/Noel/Liam and german band Tocotronic.
So I wanna buy a record player but it will get expensive with all the albums I have to buy. I like the vibes of it but I can’t lie I will get expensive and I’m thinking. Can’t I just listen to music on my tv or phone? I know it ain’t the same but it will get expensive to listen to music. Please help me
For a long time I wanted to get a record player and finally kids are old enough not to crash it immediately. Setup is quite basic but still brings a lot of joy!
Living in Japan and it seems impossible not to spend on the vinyl. Every work trip now is an opportunity to visit various record shops across the country.
Please share some recommendations based on the current collection.
