Sound System Culture - BASS PORN - Big Ass Bass Stacks
!! NOT FOR CAR/HOME AUDIO !!
Talk about / drool over sound systems and sound gear.
Post your compact portable PAs, road gear, big concert rigs. Post pics of huge speaker stacks and amp racks - BASS PORN! Old rickety Jamaican sound systems or the latest-and-greatest high-tech line arrays, whatever's clever.

I'm looking at getting the Dave 8 2.1 system for djing at home and mates places. But was wondering how it goes and what it's like. Does anyone have any experience with this system?
spec sheet has info for 4/8ohm bridged but only stereo for 2ohm. does this indicate that i shouldn’t run the amp bridged into 2ohm?
I previously bought a G-sub built exactly to spec as per the design on speakerplans and have now recently bought another unloaded G-sub box.
The new one is almost identical, but I noticed that the port width is slightly smaller (10cm) compared to 12cm on the original. All the other dimensions of the cabinets are the same, except the depth of the port also being a bit deeper on the new one (so the volume of the ports works out to be roughly the same for both cabinets).
My question is whether it’s still worth combining the two boxes or would the difference in port area result in noticeable phase issues and cancellations?
I would really appreciate any input, thanks!
Eyo i am looking for a name or build plan (or picture) of a wooden horn that looks like this is know that i have seen it online but cant seem to find it today:( bigup to the ones with nuff knowlegde
Has anyone ever tried to put a cubo kick 12 inch in the boot of a car and have it running as a sub
Hey!
So I currently have a system consisting of the following:
The speakers were built 20-odd years ago by a guy who specialises in Hi-Fi
Now I would like to beef up this system, using the existing amp rack. Mainly looking to be able to get a nice room filling sound, chest feeling, nice low bass. What would you advice I do? I am capable of building new cabinets.
I think in the top end I am quite OK, as these tops get very loud.
The system is mainly used for all kinds of dance music. Techno, DnB, House, Trance, etc etc.
So, it's been a while since i got interested in sound systems, i wanted to build one, just something really simple, i tought about building a MHB-46 and a MT-130, do you think this is a good combination?
So, for now i'm just projecting it and i'm trying to learn as much as possible, like, what amplifier do i need, how much it will cost (for now i don't really have a budget), and things like this. Any help is appreciated!
(I wanted to build this mainly for tekno)
Any opinions? I found it online for a good price but unfortunately is a bit far so I don't really have the option of hearing it first.
The driver is a B&C 18TBX100-8. It's supposedly a funktion one F118 copy. Should I just risk it and buy it?
If so what sub would you build to go with it, it would be my first proper system so this may be a good option so I dont get to overwhelmed with having to build many cabinets. Thoughts? Could this amp power a 21" sub?
could you tell me approximate cabinet weight?
also, is there an updated driver list or the pd186/3 or colossus 18xb still the best bet?
been digging around all day and i’m having a hard time finding this info
thanks
Evening Y'all.
Have you ever seen something stupidly ingenious? Something incredible, that you feel the world needs to know about? I have, and I want to share it with you. So lean back, crack a beverage and/or light one up - it's story time.
You ask me how it came to be that someone bought 8 x 18" subwoofers and decided to run them on car amplifiers...
.
The story begins at Roskilde Festival in Denmark. What's special about this festival is that people bring their own soundsystems. Camps compete to for the biggest dancefloors and the wildest parties.
However, there is one key limitation. Generators are not allowed on site. You have to run on battery.
Nowadays, the popular solution for big systems is a combination of lithium batteries, solar inverters and the Class D we are all familiar with. Back in the day, though...
Let's introduce our hero: Wacksi aka Chefen
Wacksi spent years building his soundsystem in anticipation of playing with it on Roskilde Festival.
But for two years, his camp was unlucky enough to pitch their camp directly opposite of the infamous Camp LUKSUS...
These guys had a stripper pole in the middle of their tent. If you expect anything else than getting nonstop bass-blasted, then you thought wrong.
Enough is enough, so Wacksi struck a deal on a set of passive PA boxes.
8 x 18" subs, folded horn with KCS cinema units
4 x 15" kicks, RCF woofers
Top section composed of JBL stadium units from the 80s and 90s.
He added some 12\" Yamaha tops for spice
If these guys thought they were gonna keep control of the Party Boulevard in Area C, they thought wrong.
Wacksi united with Ponk, an old anarchist that had built McGyver soundsystems his entire life.
They forced 10 different 12v car amplifiers to work together, tuned them with two miniDSP, fed the signal through a splitter. Hooked up with power condensers to handle the intense power demand of the subs...
... while we're at it, fuck it, let's get a METRIC TONNE (1000 kilograms, I kid you not) worth of lead acid tractor batteries. Yeah, fuck it, once you get a hold of a serious collection, the tendency is to push it as far as possible, right?
... and that's how CAMP HENNESSY was born. The name was chosen because Hennessy is not the best cognac, but definitely the coolest.
Enter your admirable sidekick: Me, aka Prospect.
I met the Hennessy crew on Roskilde festival: Wacksi, Sheriff Nelly, Smed, G-Code, Gully, anDré, Maxi, Abdallah. This year they camped away from the main boulevard because they wanted play-time away from LUKSUS and other oppressively big systems. By the end of that years festival, I was initiated as Prospect for the camp next year.
Fast forward one year, I quit my seasonal bar job in Mallorca to fly home for Roskilde. Two days before my departure, Wacksi uploads a video of the new Hennessy system. I won't even try to describe how I felt as I replayed the video over and over.
As I roll up, they have already camped outside the fence for 6 days. Year, 6 days. That's how intense the competition is for the best spots.
I hadn't seen the boys since last years festival, but we got drunk and started planning.
When 30,000 people run into a field to compete for best spots, you either be quick or be dead.
The sprinters carried one small tent each and rushed to the target zone. Me and Sheriff Nelly carried the main tent. Abdallah and his henchmen put down poles and taped off our turf. As soon as me and Nelly had dropped our package, we were tasked with menacing people away from the turf as our boys set up the camp. I nearly got into a fight as I was throwing away people's stuff, until Nelly intercepted, yelling "I just got released on parole and got 4 diagnoses, get away from my campsite!!!".
Abdallah on the Main Tent (pavillion, idc to properly translate)
As we rolled the speaker stacks in, one by one, the looks on people's faces were a mix of shock, awe and disbelief.
...
The first time I heard Hennessy play, my life changed forever. I owe a lot to Wacksi. Today I am the owner of Hennessy. She has other commitments this year, but I hope to bring her back to Party Boulevard next year.
Thanks for tuning in.
Hi, hopefully by the end of the busy season I’ll be looking to upgrade my rig. Looking towards a quad dual 18 setup but would love to hear everyone’s suggestions. We play a lot of dubstep/deep dub

I'm looking for a good hd215 construction plan if you have any I'd be happy if you contact me. If you build any you can also contact me.

Hey,
I'm building a small sound system and I'd like to get some opinions on the rack I have in mind.
The idea is:
- QSC GX3 for the tops
- Crown XLS 1502 for the sub
- Behringer DCX2496
- the t.racks Rack Power Supply MK II
I'm aware it's the very low end of everything but I'm really trying to buy everything used under 700euro.
thoughts? Am I missing something important in the rack? Are there better options? Any advice is welcome!
Thank you!
Heya, EDIT ; i am now looking for a setup than can be ran by a small generator--.Bigbig fan of roots, reggae, dub, jungle and would love to see your pre amp / towers and Sound system Bless Up
Interested to know if anyone uses a peq instead of geq on their systems. I mean hardware versions
I see Geq used on a lot of rigs but not peq (I don't think ) Is this mainly because geq are quicker for workflow and to adjust with the sliders. Or would a peq just never be used?
Any info on this or if people have tried or used both or either, I'd be interested to know
Thanks

Hey, Any Berlin based Soundsystems here? I’m currently working on my new system and looking to buy 8 core cables for the tops. Does anyone know a good priced supplier? Open to buy a full roll too
I saw a super handy video a little while back explaining how the air between the woofer and the port work as a vacuum, using a spring as an example. Does anyone recognise this description? Could anyone link me to the video? Thanks
