RULES/GUIDELINES

  • 1. DETAILS MATTER - Use detail in your post. If you are posting for help with specific hardware, please post the brand/model. If you need help troubleshooting, post what you have done, post the hardware/software you are using, post the steps to recreate the problem. Don’t post a screenshot with no context and expect people to know what you are talking about.

How to ask good questions: http://www.catb.org/esr/faqs/smart-questions.html

  • 2. Find and Read the product manual before posting - A lot of answers can be found in the product manual. Seriously, that's what I do when someone posts a question, I first go to the manual, and most of the time, the answer is there.

  • 3. Post Formatting Matters - No one likes to read through a wall of text, you can easily add paragraph breaks by adding double line breaks.

  • 4. Put effort into your Titles - Vague post titles such as "Help", or "Please Help", or "Question" will be a sure way that no one will want to help you. Use a succinct, clear, and helpful title when creating your posts.

  • 5. Try Google First - Before you post, you should try typing your question into google.

Any posts with the intent to self-promote, enter contests or sweepstakes, sell products or services, or are appeals for money / funding will most likely be removed. If you feel an exception should be made, please message the moderation team.

  • 9. There may be a better subreddit for your post - For example, if you have a question about car audio, try posting in r/carav.

  • 10. No solicitation of services - If you are looking for someone to do some work for you, or if you yourself are looking for work, there are other subreddits in which you could post.

  • 11. No Legal Advice - We are not a Legal Advice Subreddit. DO NOT post asking for assistance cleaning up audio for any legal matter which may be used in a court of Law. Specifically, for audio to be used in a legal matter, (depending on the state) it MUST remain unaltered. Consult your locality/attorney for best advice for your situation. Don't let some rando on reddit complicate your situation.

AIO sub connected to reciever

Hi,

I’m hoping ya’ll could help me or at least acknowledge what I’d like to do won’t work. I have a Yamaha rx-a660 receiver running some Polk rti-12 and csi5 as a center. My situation isn’t great for a big sub but I had an opportunity to grab a small one for cheap.

The sub I grabbed is from a home theater in a box type system. It’s a Polk rm6760 sub. I have an lfe for my sub and this only seems to take rca. I’m not sure sure how or if I can get a proper signal to it.

Thanks in advance if anyone can help

Smsl D-6 bluetooth noise

Hi everyone,

I have a problem when using the bluetooth input from the Smsl D-6 on my diy amplifier. When using bluetooth as input I get the noise shown in the video below from the tweeter.

The diy amplifier consist of 2 icepower 200as2 and 2 icepower 50asx2se modules. The modules are connected to two Wondom Adau 1701 AMP2 dsp modules which are configured as master/slave. The input for the dsp is a RCA adapter. The rca ground and the earth are connected to each other.

When I connect the Smsl to a Nakamichi amplifier downstairs, I no longer get the noise. I also tried a Yamaha amplifier and the issue goes away.

On the DIY amplifier I tried the following without any luck:

  1. Using a different socket on a different group for the amp and the dac
  2. Disconnecting ground from the base plate in the amplifier
  3. Rotating the power plug

Does anyone know what the issue is?

Hello community! I need some help

I have received a couple of audio recordings and I need someone who is knowledgeable with spectrograms, waveforms etc. to help me out. Just need them to look at the spectros etc. and analyze whether or not they sound realistic/normal.

I can either link the spectros here or can have them sent via PM where we can discuss them in more detail.

Thank you!

[HELP] Bluetooth headphones - Popping sound on new audio

I have a pair of (admittedly not amazing quality) Bluetooth headphones that I just opened and started using today. The sound is ... it's fine, y'know? Like, it's not "enthusiast seal of approval" good, obviously, but they're decent.

The problem is, whenever a new audio source starts playing, there'll be a very loud and painful pop sound for a fraction of a second. It could be anything from starting a youtube video to a sound effect alert.

Specifically, from testing: when nothing has been playing for ten seconds (timed, it's as close to 10s as I can measure reliably), there's a barely audible "click" sound, and then the dreaded explosion when it starts playing something later. Notably, this is true even if the audio source itself doesn't actually contain sound (tested using John Cage 4'33 - behavior is consistent with actual audio).

Is this a software or a hardware problem? I'd normally be willing to chalk it up to the headphones just being low quality, but I've had this happen on other audio devices, and these are new, so I'm kind of inclined to guess it's a software thing. Is this something people have run into before? How do I fix it? Thanks.

HP OMEN 15-ce198wm, Windows 10 22H2 (no, I'm not updating to Win11), i7-8750H CPU, and Realtek High Definition Audio.

[EDIT] So far I've tried does as much searching as I can think of, and I've tried this page and this forum thread (plus reading a few other sites/threads that either suggested similar things or didn't have a fix attached, including a couple older posts in this sub). LatencyMon gives this output even after fully updating everything and trying both "fixes"; the DPC is in the exact same ballpark as before, and the pop is still there. I'm at my wits' end.

Help Needed: Hollyland LARK M2 Splitting Channels for Podcast Recording

Hi everyone,

I recently got the Hollyland LARK M2 Combo to record a two-person podcast on my laptop using Audacity, but I’ve run into a problem. Both microphones are recording into a single mono channel instead of splitting into two separate channels for each person.

Here’s what I’ve tried so far:

  1. Connected the Lark M2 receiver to my laptop via a Type-C to Type-C cable.
  2. Tried using the 3.5mm TRS to 3.5mm TRRS cable (TRRS end to my laptop), but the audio is still merged.

I’m stuck! Does anyone know how to split the channels so each mic records separately? Any advice or tips would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks in advance! 🙏

Will pairing my ultimate ears boom 3 with a megaboom 4 sound weird?

Will pairing my ultimate ears boom 3 speaker with a megaboom 4 result in a ugly sound as they are 2 different qualities? Or are they close enough quality where it really wont matter much? Am i better off just getting another boom 3 (worse sound quality but matches my other one) to pair them together?

Seeking Bluetooth Phone Lavaliere Mic Suggestions for Podcasts/Interviews

Hi all. I'm recording podcasts and interviews for content production and am often in random places. I find Bluetooth lav mics the most handy with recording files on my phone. I'm looking for recommendations if you've got suggestions with the below criteria:

  • Under $100 for the complete set (or somewhere around there if you have a really strong suggestion - not a lot of money until that sweet sweet ad revenue starts rolling in 😆).
  • Bluetooth communication.
  • Two mics and a transmitter unit.
  • Not a billboard. No interest in advertising that RODE logo across anyone's chest.
  • Can be used with an iPhone.

I bought this set and it worked ok but then just randomly the dock wouldn't turn on during an interview when fully charged after having been used about a dozen times. No desire to repeat that!

Thank you in advance for your wisdom and suggestions!

Stream Deck alternative

Hello, I am looking for an audio mixer that enables me to adjust the volume of individual programs on my PC. The obvious choice seems to be the Elgato Stream Deck + Dial Set, but I dont need any of the Stream Deck's other function and not willing to pay basically 180€ for a volume knob.

The PC-Panel Mini has an acceptable price and the exact features I'm looking for, but shipping included, its price is close to the stream deck....

Does anyone have any good suggestions?

P.S: I'm not really a DIY guy and prefer ready to plug in options. However, I learned about deej project. Can I just use any audio mixer with it?

auto trim silence for m4a?

I have a bunch of audio files that are all about 1 second or so long. They were recorded on an iphone, and i need to remove all of the silence at the beginning and ends of the file. Every program i've used inflates the file size when i use their auto trim. does anybody have any recommendations for an auto trimmer that won't re-encode or do whatever is causing the size inflation? It's important that the size is decreased

Microphone/Speaker setup for in person audio and over zoom simultaneously

Hi!

I'm looking for a microphone/speaker setup for in person audio and online zoom/team meetings that would work online while also simultaneously with large crowds in a gym/auditorium, it's going to be a multiple purpose room for Concerts, large company meetings, and other group activities. The room is changed frequently and has a bad echo. Also sorry I'm not the best with AV stuff. Thank you!

Fifine AM8 Mic too sensitive?

I recently purchased a AM8 because of reviews and a recommendation, I love the way that it sounds! But, it seems to be really sensitive and picks up simple things like my mouse being moved around. Is there any software or hardware fixes to this?

Create test tones in Audacity

I want to know what setting to check/change to obtain a 40hz 0dB tone. I know how to create the tone but don't know what to change if I wanted to have for example, -5dB or -10dB.

So I go to Generate --> Tone --> Amplitude. The default is 0.8. The range is 0-1. Is this where I change the value? If so, how does it correlate to the desired result?

PA system help

Hey guys, I got a project that i'm having difficulty sourcing speakers. The plans show that the audio cables go from the amplifier to several speakers installed in rooms, then from the speakers to a volume potentiometer.

I'm thinking the engineer who made the plans wanted to make sure that an emergency broadcast is possible if the speaker is turned off, in essence to bypass the pot. We have already completed the wiring last month(as per plans) and everything is plastered and painted.

Now I'm having trouble finding a speaker to fit that criteria. Can anyone point me to a brand that can offer such a speaker? Or if there is a word for a function like this to make it easier to search for?

Thanks a lot

Edit: I got a volume pot with a 24v priority relay. Got no idea how to connect that.

Doing some searching now through the plans, looks like the engineer also fucked up because our plans had individual wires leading to the pa amplifier. Now we got a bundle of wires at the amplifier, about 600m total lengh and pa amplifier have only one output. Can anyone provide a solution what can I do in this situation?

Loudness Equalization. What allows this option to be enabled?

Hello,

Posting in this in the audio reddit as I feel this would be the best place .

Loudness Equalization.......I'd like to understand how some audio devices you can enable it, but on others you cant.

Example.. I use a wireless logitech headset that is plugged in via USB. When I tried to go to my audio devices to enable Loudness Equalization, it was not an option. I figured it wasn't an option because the logitech headset has its own customizable sound EQ...

Some months back, I bought a HyperX quadcast mic that plugs in USB. It has a 3.5mm jack that you can plug in whatever device to get audio. I found out that I am able to enable Loudness Equalization.

So just putting general knowledge together.....I though maybe Loudness Equalization is not possible through wireless connectivity? I'm curious because I bought a pair of wireless earbuds with a 2.3GHz wireless connector. I wonder If I am going to be able to enable Loudness Equalization...

Thanks!

My podcast audio cut out and started a repeated clicking noise in the last four minutes

i’ve never had this issue before and our setup is the exact same as it’s always been but in the last four minutes both audio tracks cut out and there’s this aggressive ticking sound. track 1 has a louder more aggressive tick while track 2 is softer but both audios cut out (no voices even in the background) and just started ticking repeatedly until the end. when i had headphones on while recording there was no indication of the audio being messed up in anyway. i could hear the voices perfectly with no background noise. the audio is perfect up until the last four minutes. i tried exporting it again but it came over the same way. we use a rodecaster pro ii, Presonus PD-70 mics, mikiz cords, and export the audio using a microsd card and have had zero issues before. if anyone can help me out to avoid this ever happening again please let me know! also if there’s any way to recover the audio that would be amazing but i’m sure there isn’t /:

Guitar Interface for Microphone Pre-Amp

I recently picked up a AXE 1/0 One to get my foot in the door for recording guitar, but I'm only realizing after I bought it that is supposedly had a class A microphone pre amp as well. I guess for tracking guitar and vocals. I was also thinking of getting a mic pre amp for my my AT2020 (and for future upgrades) but the more I started thinking I realized hey, my AXE 1/0 one has a mic preamp already built in! Even though it is more geared towards recording guitar. Would the mic preamp in the AXE be a sufficient enough mic pre amp for most of my needs? At least early in the hobby? It has to be better than the crappy phantom power box I got from Amazon that consists of an on/off button.

Is it possible to take Smart TV audio out directly to external speaker through HDMI and not Optical?

My dad has this Samsung Smart TV, which is the 60" Crystal UHD, don't know when it was made or bought by my dad. He use YouTube from day to day directly from the Smart TV app and tried using Optical audio to his external speaker and it didn't sound good to him. He thinks it might be possible to out any audio from the TV directly to his external speaker HDMI instead. I was thought of the Audio Return Channel. Is it possible and what was the device for it?

Sennheiser 560s HD

Motherboard: Gigabyte Z690 UD DDR4 ATX LGA1700 Motherboard

Headphones: Sennheiser 560s HD

Apparently my motherboard uses Realtek ALC897 and I dont feel like it is the best to drive my current headphones. I also tried to apple DAC but that didnt really increase the sound quality either.

I was considering getting the Creative Labs Sound BlasterX AE-5 Plus sound card to finally get some better audio out of my current cans.

So my question is do I have a crappy onboard audio and would I benefit from getting a sound card? All I want is better sounding audio that can drive the headphones

Connecting dynamic mic to classroom speakers via computer and HDMI?

Hi everyone! I'm wondering if I could get some audio expert advice here.

I teach and the rooms are typically setup with lanyard mic that sounds bad, and other times no microphone. Sessions are also recorded for absentees.

I wish to improve the sound. I have an SE V7. In the classroom, I can only access a HDMI cable (adapted to VGA and audio) and nothing else.

I wonder what's the most efficient way to connect the XLR mic to my computer, then have it play(monitor?) over the classroom speakers via the HDMI out?

Would an XLR to 3.5mm cable work? I preferably would not like to bring an interface.

How can I ensure no feedback?

Previously I've used the Rode Videomic NTG (has USB out) and OBS to monitor thru speakers, but in some rooms there's instant feedback. I'm hoping a dynamic will help.

Thanks for your help!

Audio or music research documentaries?

Hi there, I am looking for great audio research documentaries for my university classes. They need to:

- Discuss new music research or audio R'n'D topics (for example about psychoacoustics, musicology or new audio technology), and

- Connect this back to theory / academic fields

Most documentaries (on Netflix, etc.) are purely for entertainment purpose and discuss things that have been known for a long time, without presenting any research theory.

Any tips would be hugely appreciated :)

How to connect power studio monitors to turntable?

So I’m an idiot and blindly trusted a friend that said he knew what he was talking about but actually didn’t. I bought an audio-technica AT-LP3XBT Turntable and Two JBL MKII series 3 Powered Studio Monitors. The turntable is RCA hookup and the speakers are not. I have absolutely no idea what I’m doing (please refer back to me being an idiot) so all my google searches have been fruitless. I need advice on what exactly I need to buy in order to hook these up. Thanks in advance for your help!

Zoom H1n or Tascam TM-X2 for audio recording at concerts?

I need a mic to mount on my camera shoe mount to pick up the sound. Sometimes i don't have the opportunity to take straight from the Mixer. Also i need to capture the crowd noise for my use case.

So i came to Zoom H1n and Tascam TM-X2, because i can record stereo directly to the camera with both.

Which one would you choose? I don't like the H1n being so long and sticking over the display. The Tascam looks better imo its also made for a mount, but how is the sound in comparison?
