RULES/GUIDELINES
How to ask good questions: http://www.catb.org/esr/faqs/smart-questions.html
2. Find and Read the product manual before posting - A lot of answers can be found in the product manual. Seriously, that's what I do when someone posts a question, I first go to the manual, and most of the time, the answer is there.
3. Post Formatting Matters - No one likes to read through a wall of text, you can easily add paragraph breaks by adding double line breaks.
4. Put effort into your Titles - Vague post titles such as "Help", or "Please Help", or "Question" will be a sure way that no one will want to help you. Use a succinct, clear, and helpful title when creating your posts.
5. Try Google First - Before you post, you should try typing your question into google.
6. No piracy or distribution of copyrighted content - No piracy or distribution of copyrighted content. Violation of this rule may lead to permanent ban with no warning.
7. No offering money or services in exchange for help - We are here to help. Do not try to incentivise getting help by offering to pay or exchange goods or services for help.
8. No promotion or self promotion - Posts should be made to inform or facilitate discussion. Any posts with the intent to self-promote, enter contests or sweepstakes, sell products or services, or are appeals for money / funding will most likely be removed. If you feel an exception should be made, please message the moderation team.
9. There may be a better subreddit for your post - For example, if you have a question about car audio, try posting in r/carav.
10. No solicitation of services - If you are looking for someone to do some work for you, or if you yourself are looking for work, there are other subreddits in which you could post.
11. No Legal Advice - We are not a Legal Advice Subreddit. DO NOT post asking for assistance cleaning up audio for any legal matter which may be used in a court of Law. Specifically, for audio to be used in a legal matter, (depending on the state) it MUST remain unaltered. Consult your locality/attorney for best advice for your situation. Don't let some rando on reddit complicate your situation.
12. No Click-bait, "snake-oil", or unverified/unsubstantiated theories - Posting “snake-oil” products or theories will be removed. Also, Clickbait and Clickbait formatted titles.
13. Don't be a dick - If someone posts something you don’t agree with, don’t belittle, start a discussion. If you have nothing nice to say, move on, don’t say it. Follow the rules of Reddit, and observe reddiquette. Remember, on the other side of the computer is a person. Failing to adhere to this rule may result in a mute or temp ban.

Hello everyone,
I’m new to audio setups, so I’d really appreciate your advice. I tried doing some research and even spoke with a couple of people who sell second-hand equipment, but those discussions left me more confused than informed, so I thought I’d ask for guidance here.
I currently own a Unitra 2405S tape player, and I’m looking to add a vintage vinyl player (and possibly a cassette player) to complement it – ideally something that matches the vintage style of the Unitra.
I’d like to connect all of these devices to either my Samsung HT-TXQ120R or Logitech Z506 speakers.
Would a preamplifier be the right device to connect these two or three players to my speakers? If not, what setup or equipment would I need to make this work?
And if a preamplifier is what I need, would the Kenwood KC-105 or Sansui C-55 be a good choice for this purpose?
Thank you for your help!
Just bought a used pair of Sterling MX5s. One of them isn’t passing signal. I’ve tried different XLRs, 1/4 cables, and IECs, even replaced the fuse. I’ve tried different outputs on my audio interface as well. The monitor lights up and clicks when powered off.
I was curious if anybody else has had similar issues and has disassembled an MX5 themselves. I tried taking out the screws around the perimeter, but no luck with disassembly.
Id just love to have a setup where my setup works or i can find a work around where i can use my gaming headset.
Hi. Imma start by saying that I’m very new into this. I’ve tried to do my research before I bought my gear and also after I faced some difficulties. I can’t find an answer to my questions, I need some help.
I just bought my first serious mic - RODE NT1 Signature along with an interface Scarlett 2i2 3rd gen. I’m struggling with the volume of the mic. I feel like I’ve increased the gain to the maximum (if I go higher the sound quality drops). I’m a streamer but I also wanted a mic that will be good for singing.
On my OBS recordings my volume is too low especially comparing to my previous razer seiren v3 mini mic (that could use more volume too btw). I’m aware that my mic shouldn’t require an amp but my voice is very soft and I speak in low volume by default. I recorded some samples in audacity and the bar is almost flat instead of showing ups and downs in my speech (I’m sorry I don’t know how else to describe it 😭). When I speak louder it does appear thicker and you can read a bit more of it but I feel like I’m yelling and the sound is still relatively low considering the fact everything is maxed out (my headphones, pc sounds).
Did I make a mistake by getting Scarlett interface? The gain is not strong enough for my needs? Should I get an amp? Is there an amp and the interface in one device?
Thank you so much in advance!
Hello all,
I am looking for an alternative to 2 Sonos five, which is more affordable.
Do you have an idea?
This program has been a lifechanger for me in my movie subtitling/translation projects, when i started my project, i had one goal, to translate japanesse horror movies to english and spanish, the sad thing was that i took too long on translating 1 movie, because i had to listen to the movie over and over to catch the dialogs, and it used to take around 1 day or more on translating 1 movie, then i found the secret to reduce the time, first you separate the audio from the video with mkv toolnix, then using filmora you divide the audio in 2, the voice and the background, then i erase the background and i keep the voice, then i erase the silence spaces, so the audio reduces itself from 1 hour to 20 minutes more or less, and after that i can translate easly, now i can listen and make handmade translation in just 6 hours, something that helped a lot as well is having a good GPU, if you GPU is at lest 12 gigas, this programs can do wonders, by the way if you need handmade translations from japanese to english, spanish and german you can write to my user.
Hey All. Just recently purchased a setup that I am trying to start recording vocals on. I have a Rode NT1 Signature series Mic, Apollo solo, and using Logic Pro X on a MacBook M4 pro. My monitors and headphones work perfectly fine but my microphone get basically 0 input volume no matter how high I crank the gain - even using the software pre amps from UAD. If I max everything and record on logic, I can hear my voice, but just barely when I max out my speaker volume. I get basically no sound waves at all. My DB levels in logic show close to -60 even when maxed out gain. Phantom power is on. Any ideas?
My tv does not have a optical in port, but the soundbar has only that and a single USB A port. Is it possible to connect it through usb A? Or is a converter from HDMI arc to optical a better option?
Thanks in advance!
Hey everyone! I’m looking to get into vinyls, and I’m about to get the Audio Technica AT-LP60XBT. My question is about speaker setup. I did some research, and found that I wanted to get passive speakers and an amp because they sound better than active speakers. Is this true or should I just go for powered speakers? In any case, please recommend products for either passive setups (amps and speakers) or powered speakers. Thanks!!
Note: Please don’t recommend bluetooth speakers as I want analog. The only reason I’m buying the bluetooth version is because it’s cheaper on sale so why not.
TL;DR: Please tell me whether you recommend an amp and passive speakers or just powered speakers, and recommend products for your choice. Thanks!
Hello! I was recently given an Audio Technica PRO 35R microphone that is having some audio issues. I'm guessing that there is a problem with the cable, but I'm new to this so I don't know exactly how to diagnose and fix the issue (If it is worth fixing). I pulled the sleeve off of the XLR side and all of the connections looked solid. I've attached a video of the audio sounds like with me trying to sing in the background. I've also put a link to the mic on here (it is the wired XLR version). Thanks!
My laptop is messed up and it doesn't recognize the internal speakers, so I cannot use the headphone jack because the output is the Realtek Audio that doesn't show up. I have a USB headset, and that shows as its own input in Windows settings. I am looking at buying a new microphone, but I need to know if every USB microphone like this, or if it is just some.
Pretty much everything is on the title.
I have a lot of issues with my audio interface Presonus Audiobox USB96 on my desktop computer, but everything is fine with my laptop.
But i want to use my desktop computer...
Here is every information i can give:
-Motherboard: ROG STRIX B550-E GAMING
-CPU: AMD Ryzen 7 5800X
-RAM: DDR4 32Go
-GPU: Asus RTX 3060Ti
My interface is plugged into a 2.0 USB port on the motherboard.
Y tried with monitor headphones and speakers (presonus ones)
And when it's plugged into my laptop everyting is fine.
Tried with different frequency, cache, etc...
Thanks in advance!
Hi everyone!
I'm looking for a way to have a decent audio quality while recording a theater play without spending a lot. The idea is to have a smartphone recording the video from like 15ft or so away and a microphone closer to the stage. First of all: would it make sense to have an external non-expensive mic? Would it actually improve the quality? If so, which kind of mic should I look for? I've been searching a bit through small shotgun mics, bluetooth lavaliers and others but I'm not an expert, so...
Thank you very much
I don’t recommend doing it, I’ve just had weird symptoms after exposing myself to those tone generator apps that have infrasounds.. Have I actually heard pure infrasounds from my laptop?
I just bought a Zoom H6 Essential, and I wanted to know which SD cards are good so there is no to minimal quality loss. Is there anything I have to pay attention to? I would prefer to have 1TB.
Will a stereo audio file recorded onto a mono tape player still play as stereo on stereo speakers or would both speakers play mono?
Hello guys, there's currently a huge discount on the Yamaha ZG01 where i live and i could get it new for just 49 Bucks, which would make it even cheaper than those Chinese Fifine and Maono ones. But I can't find a lot of information on it.
I want to use it with my DT 770 Pro (32 Ohms) and a Shure MV7 and wonder if that would be a good fit.
Can you give me some insight?
I've got a pair of old Centrex by Pioneer speakers (not great, I know, but they were my Grandpa's) and one of the RCA jacks has become unreliable. It's a panel-mount jack and it only works intermittently, or if I stand there and smoosh the connection together.
Is there anything I should try before just wiring in a new jack? Or just hot-wiring the speaker? (Would that be bad?)
I'm in a small 96sqft/9sqm room which has only a table, chair and a closet. Built in macbook pro laptop picks up a lot of echo.
My budget is up to 3-400usd and I will be using it mainly for interviews and filming coding courses.
What would be the best mic for untreated room in my case?
Tried to do my own research but it's very hard to make a decision.
Some people recommend any dynamic microphone, others recommend specifically Shure SM7B, Rode Procaster or Rode NT-USB. I'm completely lost.
All I want is a decent sound of my voice without echo.
Hello! I'm having a very unusual problem with the speakers connected to my PC I can't quite explain it: The issue is that whenever my mouse hovers something or I click or push a button on my keyboard, there's an awful static noise coming from my speakers. Mouse and keyboard are connected via USB, the speakers' output is AUX.
Here's what I tried already:
However, none of that helped. I can't explain how the USB inputs from literally ANY USB port on my PC affect the audio output on also literally ANY AUX output. Really makes me scratch my head.
Here's some specs, maybe that helps too:
- Speakers: Phillips BT speakers (stereo)
- Interface: AIWA stereo integrated amplifier XA-005
- Motherboard: ASUS Z170 Pro Gaming Aura
- System: Windows 10 x64
- Program: Running Realtek HD Audio Manager
Anyone got an idea to help me or can explain how I'm getting these static noises?
I want to mix the audio from an iPad and a digital piano and pass it on to a amplifier. The amplifier only has two channels in. So, the gadget I need should have 4 channels in and two out, gains knobs only and preferably no need for external power. My searches only turn up mini mixers with more features than I need. Could you guys point me in the right direction? What search words should I be using? Any product suggestions?
Hi there, I would like to have a series of calls with an elderly relative in another country, and record "interviews" about my ancestors. I would like the recording quality to be as high as practically possible, without breaking a bank. I am willing to invest in some software or hardware, but it's not a business venture. She uses a landline phone, so the only option I have is to call her from my smartphone, no apps. Neither of us is in the US, so various services using a man-in-the-middle phone number become very expensive. Also, I am going to use this solution for a while, so I prefer to buy some software/equipment rather than rely on a 3rd party service.
Since there are hands-free sets, in which conversation sound of good quality leaves the smartphone towards the headphones and reaches the smartphone from the mic, I thought it would be trivial. But for some reason, it's not. There are many questions like this one online and no simple answer. See for example this thread.
If I understand it correctly, my best bet is have a digital-analogue interface, like Rode AI-micro, connected to the smartphone, then analogue-digital interface, like Motu m4, to connect that to the computer, and maybe also a mixer. Plus probably an external mic and headphones. This involves seemingly redundant DAC-ADC conversion. Can someone explain to me why I cannot simply connect my smartphone to my Mac over USB (digital-digital) and talk as I do when using Skype on my computer, using built in mic and speakers? I must be missing some key aspect here.
I'd just like to know as i don't want to overstress my machines as there all expensive pieces of audio equipment. Like what i really want to be able to do is use my surround sound for music and game sound and my headphones and mic for Voice chat! Thanks in advance for any repsonse! :D
I have a MacPro dual booted into MacOS and Windows 11 that I use for music production and gaming. I also have a Scarlett 18i20 connected to some speakers and headphones. On the MacOS side I use a combination of Audio Hijack and Sound ID vst to calibrate my speakers and headphones seperately and send those signals to their respective outputs. Audio Hijack can easily see the multiple outputs on the Scarlett.
On the windows side of things I can't seem to find anything to do what I can do on mac.
Yes I know I can use the standalone Sound ID app but then I have to change the profile every time I switch between headphones and speakers which I do a lot.
I can't even find a way for windows to display the 8 outputs that the Scarlett has, only recognising 1-2. Same with the inputs. I have the latest Focusrite Control software and drivers and I've tried some of the programs people recommend as alternatives to audio hijack but nothing seems to be doing the trick. Any recommendations?
This is a long shot but I was hoping someone could help me figure out the proper settings I would need to record ASMR videos using Logitech Blue Voice software. I know nothing about audio engineering and I'm not sure what settings I should be using or what they should be set to. To make things even more confusing is if I click Noise Reduction, for example, it has even more sub settings. If anyone is familiar with this software and ASMR could you please tell me exactly what levels I should be using for each setting. Thank you.
Hey,
So i have the Focusrite Scarlet Solo audio interface and im using it to power my SM58 Microphone.
I play all kinds of video games so i had always hoped to just connect my headphones into the Scarlet Solo but with each headphones i tried to do that i faced the same issue - the sound is just off.
i dont know why but the headphones sound weird when i connect them directly to the scarlet solo. the bass is way too strong and it takes over the higher sounds. it makes it basically impossible to play video games as you dont hear enemy footsteps properly, cant hear the voice chat comms from your team mates because the voice comms are completely taken over by the game and especially the bassy sounds. and the worst part is when i hit a really bassy sound such as a Sniper rifle (AWP) shot, im basically getting earraped by the bass.
i previously thought the issue had to do with the fact that i was using a Headset, which included microphone data through the 3.5mm cable and since the Scarlet solo only accepts audio data it might have caused issues. but just a few days ago i got the Fiio FT1 headphones which have no microphone and after connecting the 3.5mm cable to a PL adapter and then into the Scarlet Solo. the issue persists, and i keep getting earraped by the bass and really struggle hearing higher sounds like human voice or vocals in songs as they're completely taken over by the bass.
in other words, the scarlet solo seems to have issues at this point and idk what to do. i connected my new Fiio FT1 headphones into the standard realtek audio card on my motherboard and everything just stablizes, no bass earrape, footsteps and other minor sounds are easier to notice and i finally hear the voice comms regardless of how loud the game is.
i'd like to ask for help. perhaps someone has faced a similar issue..
We have three mics plugged in a Scarlett Foucsrite 18i8 and all three mics can be heard through headphones. However when using a program the first two mics appear on a track but the third mic isn’t picked up at all in Audacity, Audition or OBS.
Is there a way we can get all three picked up at once or maybe all three on one track where the audio on all three reaches the left and right channels?
