First time hearing a test emergency alert on the radio sceard the shit out of me idk why it did 🤣 came out of nowhere video was recorded right after it was done
So i have a pair of monitor speakers with built-in RCA cable and an amplifier with wire only sockets. How do i connect them to the amplifier? I know it might the dumbest question. Thank you in advance
I don't have the greatest power at my house and I am looking for a power conditioner to run my mostly 1960s tube setup. The power on that circuit in my house sits at about 124vac, but fluctuates throughout the day.
Ideally, I'd like to be able to dial in 117vac, but saving that, do any of you running old tube gear have good experiences with a power conditioner that you could recommend?
Thanks in advance!
I'm looking to crack in on my first setup, I have a MCS 3338 R lined up as a receiver (free is free); but I'm stuck on speakers. I mostly listen to punk/hardcore and my partner more Sinatra and older Latin music, so I'm already bit lost where to go with such a broad swath. My family is swearing up and down on getting new Klipsch 51pms, but I'm trying to keep it more classic with the receiver I have lined up and avoid the harsh high frequency Klipsch have.
Is there any suggestions for what I might look into for what is a very odd musical range?
I recently bought a Pioneer PL-1120 & am questioning about the most suitable cartridges & head shell to use it.
i just inherited my great grandmas 1966(ish) rca victor record console and i know basically nothing about things like this. i noticed that when i turn it on there is like an ambient buzzing noise. is this normal or a sign that something is wrong with it? it sounds totally fine when im playing a record it just buzzes when its not playing anything
please dont make fun of me if this is a stupid question i just would hate for it to stop working because i didnt take care of it properly 🥲
I recently had my 30+ year old Musical Fidelity B1 amplifier, which has been unused for nearly a decade, professionally serviced, cleaned, rebalanced and re-capped etc.
I always loved the B1's sound (I realise many didn't) but now it's refurbished it really has beautiful clarity... and it has revitalised my own interest in vintage hi-fi. I have also dug out my old Arcam Alpha CD player and not quite so ancient Monitor Audio Bronze BR2 speakers (I also have Dali Lektor 1s for a smaller room). I'm far from an audio expert but it all sounds pretty good to me.
The guy who refurbished the B1 mentioned that, after its service etc, I would need to pay around £1,000 to replace it with a like-for-like/equivalent amp today. Assuming that is anything near accurate, I wondered if anyone had thoughts on what modern amps are equivalent to the B1 in terms of quality, sound and (today's) price?
Also, and excuse my ignorance, any thoughts on the best speakers to match the B1 in a small/medium sized room if not my MA Bronze 2s?
Thanks!
I have a large collection of ADS Speakers L400, L300 & L 200. I also have L 710 woofer replacements and various other bits. I would like to sell all of it together. I no longer have room keep them and I know I will never get around to enjoy them and/or work on the others that were to be projects.
This is a turntable at my parents' place. I'm trying to help them find a belt replacement for it (I will probably get a cartridge/needle replacement too just in case).
As far as I can tell, it's a general electric Tonal 1 from the late 1960s to mid-70s. I assume the numbers they sent me on the back could be model numbers, but I'm unsure.
Is there a way for me to find the belt and cartridge it would need without having them measure it and whatnot? I assume a C650 cartridge would fit since it seems that's what General Electric used most of the time on these, but I'm a bit lost on what belt.
i inherited a bang & olufsen system from my dad (beogram cd 50, beocord 5000, beogram 5005, beomaster 5000, mini speakers, and column speakers). i need to put it in a storage unit as i don't have a permanent home for it yet. i'm already going with a climate-controlled unit because i also have his vinyls and his leather bound books. any recommendations how should i properly pack/store the system?
I finally got a Marantz 2230. Although everything seems to be in order, I’m wondering if I should take it to a tech to see if it needs to be serviced. Since it’s my first foray into the vintage audio world, any advice or recommendation would be greatly appreciated. Thank you in advance for your replies.
I want to resurrect my dads old Sony HMK-11 stereo system. But I’m not familiar with the connection type? Is it possible to get compatible speakers or adapters for modern speakers? I have no experience and no clue what I’m looking for or what’s available.
Bought these at a thrift store today - didn't cost much and I thought it was worth the risk.
There's not much info about this brand (Elecktra?) online - would really appreciate anyone's thoughts on the quality of these and things to know here! Planning to hook up to a turntable via preamp, receiver, eventually.
Definitely well used but seem basically fine. Here is the info on the back:
MODEL ED-8X 8" 3-WAY SPEAKER SYSTEM HANDLING POWER: 20 WATTS MAX. V.C. IMPEDANCE:8 OHMS MADE IN JAPAN .
I am going to look at a yamaha ca-810. Still has the the manual, says everything works, but doesn't have anything to hook it up to for a demo. Would demoing it using headphones suffice? If it checks out, what else could be wrong that would be undetectable without speakers?
Everything from Lou Reed to Stomping Tom.
It’s tough to find them and the quality leaves something to be desired but I like to have a variety of mediums in my collection.
