This was my grandparent's stereo console. The radio works, but the turntable does not.
Any suggestions on how to trouble-shoot and repair the turntable?
What is the difference between the Locarno models 1/U, c/U, and d/U?
Thanks.
I used to curse all of you that stumbled across amazing deals, until I scored this monster for $100 on marketplace today!!! Keep up the search, they are still out there.
Hey everyone! So I made a post earlier about my recent acquisition on some old speakers, the difficulties I face with restoring them, and the opinion on the topic of frankensteining. But as i could not edit the title to that post, I felt this is still a topic i would like to see discussed amongst specifically the vintage audio community.
So, my question for you all is this. What is the generally accepted stance on frankensteining. At which point is it disagreeable to taint a speaker by swapping components out. And where is the line drawn? When components are too hard to find (or impossible to find) is it more acceptable?
See, I'm about ready to make a Frankenstein of my new acquisition, but i would also not want to destroy something in the process. Tldr, a speaker i cannot find replacements to is blown, its a weird 4x6 formfactor, and I'm probably going to replace it with something else like a 4" full range driver.
At what point are frankensteins disagreeable?

First post here so go easy on me :)
I recently bought a Technics SL-1900 turntable and I am setting a new audio setup around that. I am now in need for a nice receiver max 150 euros. I found two options in Kleineanzeigen
So the question is
A Yamaha RX-496 RDS or a Yamaha RX-397
They both look in pretty good condition and they are selling for 150e but I think I can bring to 100e.
I am leaning towards the RX 496 just for the turner add on and the slighter wattage which I guess means more power.
Speakers will follow but for this I still have no idea. Probably passive speakers or? The space is a bit limited so something small, powerful and ok price would be nice if you also have any recommendations.
For now I have some Edifier R1700BT which I hope to connect with RCA but I am not sure if this can work.
Let me know your thoughts!
Thank you in advance!
Hung these up and put some subs under the table and it sounded fantastic! The box ones also sound mean
Maybe this is the final appearance. I asked a friend to paint the CD player white and put 14 neodymium magnets in the shell of the machine to attract some accessories. I also want to put stickers on it in the future, but I can't find the right one, so I gave up.
Anybody know anything about such things? Saw a pair at thrift and couldn't find anything on the interwebs.
