The Natural Gas Reddit
Natural gas is a naturally occurring hydrocarbon gas mixture consisting primarily of methane, with other hydrocarbons, carbon dioxide, nitrogen and hydrogen sulfide.
Natural gas is an energy source often used for heating, cooking, and electricity generation. It is also used as fuel for vehicles and as a chemical feedstock in the manufacture of plastics and other commercially important organic chemicals.
Natural gas is found in deep underground natural rock formations or associated with other hydrocarbon reservoirs in coal beds and as methane clathrates. Petroleum is also another resource found in proximity to and with natural gas. Most natural gas was created over time by two mechanisms: biogenic and thermogenic. Biogenic gas is created by methanogenic organisms in marshes, bogs, landfills, and shallow sediments. Deeper in the earth, at greater temperature and pressure, thermogenic gas is created from buried organic material.

My family has 2 wells in Robertson County, Texas. They were lucrative for a long time, but when the price fell, they gradually fell off until a few years ago, they plugged the wells.
In that time, the company leasing the land wasn't one of the big oil companies. ConocoPhilips took over, and that seemed to coincide with our wells become less active.
The gis map says the wells are "temporarily" out of order.
If the price goes back up, are they going to switch them on?
A relative of mine thinks the wells are exhausted. Another thinks they will come back when the price goes back up. I think we just got fleeced by ConocoP.
Which of us is right?
We have a natural gas well on our property that we use to heat two homes. It is straight from the ground, no cleaning is done on the gas. We were always advised to add methanol into the dryer during the freezing months to prevent the lines from freezing up with any water in the system. It has frozen in the past to one house, but not the other. We believe we fixed that based on the line issue. We also drain any water from the dryer periodically in hopes to alleviate much freezing.
How much methanol should be put in and how often to help with freezing? I am not having luck with finding much online other than its PPM, which we do not have an injector to set it PPM. Previously gallons were being put in and I don't believe that is accurate?
Any advice for how much? TYIA!
With the Keystone pipeline opening up on day one. This stock is gonna blast off 💥📈💰
The company I hired to put a line in for a stove already cut this line, but can't find the tee needed for this flex line so they want to run new lines all through my house. They tried gastite, but it's not that. I tried contacting pro flex but it doesn't seem to be theirs either. The line itself is unmarked. I can't afford to replumb my entire house, but that's all the contractor is offering and now I have no heat and no hot water. Feeling trapped. Please help!
Hello, I Iive in North Stamford CT, we have residential Nat Gas via Eversource . The Tennessee Gas Pipeline also runs through the neighborhood, this major pipeline transfers nat gas from Canada to Tennessee. Last week the ground shook for about 3-4 seconds and it sounded like an explosion. This first time, speculation ranged from a plane crash to a meteor but the police and fire depts investigated and found nothing. Then it happened a second time over the weekend, again police and fire investigated and said they found nothing.
There were several mentions on the news: https://www.msn.com/en-us/news/crime/stamford-fire-crews-respond-to-dozens-of-calls-about-explosions-find-nothing-chief-says/ar-AA1u7m1T
Now it happened again about an a hour ago.
My first question, is there any know issue with a nat gas pipeline that would cause this? Like a surge or something that would rattle the whole pipeline and everything around it? Second question, it seems like like the at Nat Gas companies are not taking this seriously, They just say that they haven't found anything, yet they say there is no risk to the public. It seems like the Tennessee Pipeline management is different from the residential Eversource and maybe they are satisfied to point the finger at each other until it explodes. They should have put equipment in place to detect this after the first event, it's now happened three times! How can we put pressure on them? Eversource has a twitter acct but I have no presence on Twitter. They have no Presence on FB. Any ideas?
I was walking my dog at night and smelled a really faint smell of gas at one point in front of my neighbors home. I went outside to the back of my house to see if I smelled it and didnt smell anything but my gas meter thing (sorry I am not educated on this stuff) was making a noise but it wasnt loud. I’m not sure if that is normal for it to make a sound while running. I got scared and turned my heat off on the thermostat and the noise stopped when I came back outside to check it. Once my boyfriend got home, he said he smelled gas a little bit walking from his car which was parked a little further than our home. Once he came in our driveaway, we kept getting whiffs of gas smells here and there. (On Oct. 17th our furnace cut off randomly and our landlord sent someone out and they just reset it and said if it happens again to let them know but it hasnt cut off since but now I smell gas and I am worried it is our house) I called BGE and the fire department came first. They said there was nothing that they found and it was safe to go instead. BGE came and had us turn the heater back on and said it was clear and they didnt smell anything gas but we definitely smelled it before they came. We spent the night at a hotel because I was worried. Is it safe to go back home? Is this something to be concerned about?
I just newly installed this Mr. Heater Unit and I am trying to understand if this is too much orange flame? It’s been running for over an hour now, and the orange hasn’t died down. For context, it’s just been installed in a freshly gutted house. So i’m assuming the heavy dust particles in the air is causing this? Any insight is helpful. Thanks
