The Natural Gas Reddit

Natural gas is a naturally occurring hydrocarbon gas mixture consisting primarily of methane, with other hydrocarbons, carbon dioxide, nitrogen and hydrogen sulfide.

Natural gas is an energy source often used for heating, cooking, and electricity generation. It is also used as fuel for vehicles and as a chemical feedstock in the manufacture of plastics and other commercially important organic chemicals.

Natural gas is found in deep underground natural rock formations or associated with other hydrocarbon reservoirs in coal beds and as methane clathrates. Petroleum is also another resource found in proximity to and with natural gas. Most natural gas was created over time by two mechanisms: biogenic and thermogenic. Biogenic gas is created by methanogenic organisms in marshes, bogs, landfills, and shallow sediments. Deeper in the earth, at greater temperature and pressure, thermogenic gas is created from buried organic material.

Tariff Price Effects

With the recent Canadian tariffs implemented, what will this do to the price of NG?

Advice needed

I’m looking to get into a utility gas worker apprenticeship program. Can you suggest any skills/videos/resources I should look into that would help set me apart from the other candidates? This would all be brand new to me. Thank you

GCM&R Trainee for BG&E

Applied for said position and am totally new to the world of Natural Gas construction and maintenance. Can anyone help me out on the basics? If anyone does work for BGE, what does said position entail exactly and what can I expect?

Natural gas data sources

Hello everyone! Have anyone compared data on natural gas from S&P and other sources? I have data on production and reserves, and I see huge differences in numbers. For instance, ADNOC Gas production is almost twice lower in the official company data than in S&P. Same is with other companies, like QatarEnergy. As for reserves, I compared data between S&P and OPEC/Energy Institute on country-level. And this time, S&P underestimate the reserves - OPEC shows reserves twice larger than S&P. Is someone aware or any difference in methodology? I know S&P gives 1P (proved) and 2P (probable) reserves. OPEC is likely to give 1P, so two times difference makes even less sense to me.

Thanks for your help. Happy to discuss and will appreciate any feedback

Any cheap solutions for removing moisture from natural gas?

I work in a cross country NG pipeline facility(high pressure), there shouldn’t be moisture content in dry gas but due to some complexities we are not able to remove it. Problem occurs when we supply gas to customers who are having low pressure requirements, so when pressure is let down icing starts to occurs which in turn chokes valves which are small. So any other solution anyone has come across apart from ethylene glycol skids or heat tracing system?

Any natural gas distribution low pressure system operators?

Just curious to see if there are any natural gas distribution low pressure system operators on here. Low pressure system meaning there are no service regulators on the customer’s meter set and the main pressure runs at 0.5 psig or less. The pressure in the main is controlled by district regulator stations and main pressure is delivered to the customer.

I have a system improvement idea that provides safety, operational, and financial benefits. DM me for details if interested.

Alberta Canada Natural gas "market rate"?

So I have my natural gas utilities with a company that quotes the prices as "market rate" plus a fixed amount.

When I question them on how they find "market rate" the answer I get is:

Variable Natural Gas Rate - A Variable Natural Gas Rate (also known as a floating natural gas rate) is based on a volume-weighted average of transacted prices for all physically delivered natural gas in a calendar month at the Alberta AB-NIT market centre. A final index price is calculated in Canadian Dollars/Gigajoule ("$/GJ") when all physical deliveries have been completed for a specified month. This information is posted on the http://www.theice.com/ngx website. Subject to the operating NGX business processes and policies, the final index price is typically made available two Business Days following the final scheduled delivery for the delivery month. The posted rate for natural gas is the average of the 2a and the 5a price, including a processing cost from Utility Network & Partners, Inc., plus a Transaction Fee, (a charge represented in $ per GJ as posted on the Energy marketer's website). The Transaction Fee is subject to change upon reasonable notice to you.

But when I go to the website listed, I can't find any actual prices anywhere, and no google search ever comes up with any prices that match the ones quoted on my bill.

I have asked them repeatedly for more information, and all they ever do is send me the same block of text.

If I can't find this price to compare, for all I know they could be completely making it up.

Anyone know how to actually find this pricing information?

Natural Gas outlook and facts

"Natural gas drawdown typically peaks during the winter months, specifically around January, when demand for space heating is at its highest, causing the most significant withdrawal from natural gas storage facilities. "

You guys thinking you should be bullish are about to get a crude awakening.

We still have very high reserves, and we still flare 140bcf of natural gas a year .

Propane reserves, which are made from natural gas , are at a multi year high currently.

BOIL is a widow maker etf and I would suggest exiting the building soon.

Take advantage of any pops and exit before the next trend down and ultimate reverse spit.

We are still flaring around 140 bcf of nat gas annually

Reserves are still very high and storage cost is still ultra expensive for the BOIL etf. Draw down ends soon and reserves will, once again , mushroom higher.

caveat emptor

Gas smell outside

Every few months I smell gas outside my front door. I had the gas company out twice (a few months ago) to check and they didn’t find anything leaking. I smelled it again last night and I can’t stop thinking about it. I don’t smell it right now, but should I have them come out again? Is this normal?

Help meter reading and CCF

Can someone help me understand how this meter is read?

These are the same meter read about a week apart.

I believe the readings are 4348 and 4163, with a different of 185.

Does that 185 CCF?

If so, how does the units for each dial (1,000,000 and 100,000 and 10,000 and 1,000) make sense?

What I mean is, the readings are really:

4,348,000 cu-ft

4,163,000 cu-ft

And the difference is 185,000 cu ft, which is 1850 CCF (not 185 CCF).

Somebody please unconfuse me!

Thanks!

Inherited Land in LA.

Unsure how to explore the idea of extracting gas or oil. What's the best process for selecting company to test. Land is remote so unsure if there's value in developing it.
