I'm watching season 2 - episode 11 - Mr. Monk and The Three Pies - I did not expect this - he meets his brother after years of no contact along with Sharona, and all of us, the viewers and Sharona are in for a surprise when we find out that he is more intelligent than even Adrian Monk is!!! And Adrian hates it!!! I think both the actors are equally good and this episode is funny and cute. What's your favorite?
Just watched the episode we've Harold took a bullet for Dr. Kroger and he told Monk "beat that" 😂 I don't know why but that was hilarious to me
So I came across this and I was wondering if the account was legit? Does anyone know? I've came across so many fake accounts these days so it's hard to tell whether or not this is actually him.
I am a fan of so many movies and series, but most of them are either too fast or too loud or too sci-fi or stuff like that. Monk is probably the only show or one from a few different options where your mind can completely relax. No loud music, even the theme song is gentle, no frequent use of cuss words, no crazy, loud drama, no weirdo action, ... It is really good when you need that relaxation! I love Monk!
(disclaimer finished the show in 2024 but this kinda doesn't sit right in Season 8)
So we have Disher in Season 8 Episode 12 "Mr. Monk Goes Camping" and his best scene for me was the "Happiness is a Choice" conversation he had with Monk. Here Disher is opening up true emotions and feelings, and we see a guy made fun of a lot have a loveable and good attitude towards it all.
Monk doesn't get reinstated, and acts all happy even though he just had been rejected. Here you might think it's Monk not understanding, but it's Disher who says quietly "Happiness is a Choice", as Natalie and Leland are surprised at Monk's happiness and trying to explain it's bad news. I loved this, it connected to my own life, and I thought "How awesome that Monk doesn't even care!"
But two episodes later he is all over the place happy that he gets the badge back!?
Sorry, love the show, but this was just another example-I can't imagine the writers connected on these sub-plot events. It ruined the beauty of that moment in episode 12.
Sure, in the end all good anyway...but they didn't need to do it this way, they could have built off the episode 12 ending.
pretty funny they snuck in an "i dont think so" in to every episode
Characters like Monk are common in Media and I really like the show.
I think it’s important to humanize these characters but also be cautious with the writing where they come off as cruel.
Up to this point, I liked Monk. He seemed like a genuinely good dude. He’s smart and capable but also flawed.
But the scene where he tells Sharona really turned me off on the character because of just… the cruelty and hypocrisy. I really feel like the writers didn’t do a great job at resolving the conflict between Monk and Sharona. At the end Sharona even jokes about Monk’s “empathy” and it just…
I didn’t find it to be a super satisfying ending. What did you folks think? I wanna hear different perspectives on this.
Leland be giving off dirty harry , .Mr monk and the panic room
Know this is probably really late but couldn't find anyone else making this connection.
When Monk is in the hospital after being shot, his Doctor walks in and introduces herself as "Dr. Levinson".
In The Office, Melora Hardin plays Jan Levinson.
In Monk, she plays Trudy, his late wife.
This episode aired after Jan was introduced in the office, making me think this is a tongue in cheek reference. Way too weird to be a coincidence!
43 years old now and very hard for me to be interested in shows as shows these days don't always cut it. I decided to see if I liked Monk and bam, my mom got into it too and so we jumped in so we could discuss it. I really liked the non-digital age (compared to now) feel. Great show of course and I really enjoyed a lot... HOWEVER...
Season 5 was the first time when I saw the quality of the writing take a hit. I can still remember when I thought, "Wow. For the first time, that's two episodes in a row that were ok but not great great episodes." Season 6 and 7 the same. Season 8 picked it up, but I liked 1-4 the most overall.
I don't feel the continuity was good between writers overall.
I liked Sharona more than Natalie (both were awesome but I was annoyed that Natalie called him "Mr. Monk" and not 'Adrian' all the time personal problem) and felt they changed Monk and Natalie near the end. Monk in the later seasons, I mean geeze he was like an action hero, running all the time, punching people, being downright mean to people in certain scenes in the later seasons (usually to people who were grieving over the loss of someone murdered).
The OCD scenes, they overdid those, but I saw this was a filler, making it easy for the writers. They could add any scene at any time of him and OCD. It became normal to fast forward through certain scenes. So then I rated each episodes in two categories: the mystery, and then the outside of the mystery (OCD scenes, extra stuff).
It also seemed that some murder mysteries of the show had some similar elements/aspects as to what happened, but I was always intrigued to see the solution. I wonder also if this was a way to help the writers write out. "Where's your proof?" became a standard line for the accused. It was like they were contractually obligated to say the word 'proof'.
And of course I had to accept how much they doubted Monk. In season 1, this made sense. But even in the late seasons, Leland, Disher, Natalie, others, still had to doubt his theories like Monk was crazy, but I get it.
I found it funny too that through out the show, there were scenes where people would go to Monk's front door. This is an important nuance to me, because in a lot of scenes it was like "lock the door, Who is there?" But other times we have times Monk would blindly let people into his home. ("Come in" and Monk was in another room). He is s a detective and doesn't lock his door!? Maybe I was too critical there.
I checked the viewer statistics and season 4 had the highest viewership overall. Makes sense to me.
My two questions are am I in the ballpark of anyone else's thoughts on the show, and is it worth it to dive into all the spinoffs, novels?
Thank you Monk!!!! 8.5/9 out of 10 rating for me overall, carried by seasons 1-4 and 8...that made up for some hokey-ness
I'm neurosivergent and a hygiene freak in comparison to neurotypical people. I'm not OCD. I love the series inspite of the fact I'm not into murders and stuff. I love Tony shalhoud, he is doing a great job but I wish more attention to the hygiene aspect. I love all the other actors. They all did a great job. Who feels the same way about hygiene here?
Edit: he is germophobic but he is more of hygiene freak and there are many incohérences in the show. OCD is one thing neurogence and manias are different. Generally the goal to be achieved beats the phobia or mania etc.
I completed monk psych and white collar please suggest some series like these
Mr. Monk Goes to Group Therapy
This is hands-down the funniest episode of Monk. I crack up out loud every single time I watch it. The show always does such a great job balancing comedy with heartfelt moments, but this episode absolutely nails it.
Monk is one of my favorite shows of all time, but let’s be honest—there are moments I skip or suffer through because they just really make me cringe. For instance, when Mr. Monk’s fears and phobias act up, they can sometimes make him seem overly childish, or when he says things that are just straight-up rude, or when things happen to him that are so horrible they would deeply traumatize literally anyone. HOWEVER, this episode changed those potentially cringey, overly childish moments and shines a more harmlessly amusing light on Mr. Monks quirks. It turns Mr. Monk’s unintentional insensitivity into snarky banter. It takes a deeply traumatizing moment and makes it funny, yet heartwarming at the same time.
SPOILER ALERT STARTS HERE Moments from the episode I’d like to highlight:
The scene where Mr. Monk finds out his insurance covers 2,000 total private therapy sessions, and he only had one session left with Dr. Bell. The minor temper tantrum he throws during his “last” (definitely wasn’t) session with Dr. Bell had me laughing from start to finish.
The plot twist that Monk starts suspecting himself of the murder! Absolutely hilarious. All the jokes you could write about Monk suspecting himself of murder, of all people! The moment during the espisode when he did the detective hand thing, but to himself instead — and Natalie has to physically stop him— had me crying.
Harold and Monk yelling at each other during their first group therapy session. Anytime those are beefing, it’s ridiculous and hilarious.
But then, Harold and Monk get kidnapped and held in the trunk of a car. Uhhh…traumatizing wtf! But, the two actually end up having a bonding breakthrough moment by turning the situation into their very own therapy session together in the trunk. It was great to witness the reconciliation of these two characters after all the chaos they’ve been through together over the series.
Some fans say the show starts to teeter off in the last two seasons, but after rewatching, I’ve found some real gems. This episode is definitely one of them. I've never even written a Reddit post about my favorite episode of any TV show before, but this one is just too good not to share. So Monk core. What’s your favorite episode?
This past Sunday, there was a reunion of Rockford Peaches at this sports expo and Bitty looks as great as ever. I came across this photo by accident (credit @rosie) but wanted to share since Bitty has stayed away from the spotlight for the better part of 20 years now. Made me happy to see
My friend really loves monk so I would love to gift him a shirt that has this print. I found it on Ebay but the shipping is extremely expensive. So I was wondering if anyone somehow has a raw image they could send me which I could then print on a shirt here.
An odd request I understand but any help is appreciated!
Not necessarily better just interesting if Natalie was instead Sharona and vice versa. Mr. Monk Gets Married with Nat would definitely be a lot different and fun to see. But I like Sharona being in Mr. Monk and the Three Julies with Benjy.
Season 6 Episode 4. Monk and the bad girlfriend. In one of the scenes Natalie is shown on a motorcycle, and Monk asked her from where she got it. She replied that she did the guy a favor once, and when Monk asked what it was, she replied "Do you really wanna know?", then Monk replies "Nah-uh". What could the favor be?? She said it in a kinda flirty way. So what do ya'll think?
Not exactly the better but it’s really pretty fun and odd.
This is such a unique show. Even though it’s a crime show/comedy, the idea behind the character Monk is something I’ve never seen before. Still on season 1, and plan to watch the movie as well which I was surprised is a thing as well!
I’m currently rewatching this show.
This was the first episode I’ve seen rewatching where Monk sobs in my opinion.
He sees his father-in-law after he knocks on Monk’s door. Trudy is gone, he seems miserable and they embrace each other.
Strong and powerful scene.
I just bought Mr. Monk Goes to the Firehouse and only a few pages in found a typo... Monk would be as irritated as I am right now!
