What is your favorite symbolism in Mr. Robot?

What are some of your favorite symbolic moments in Mr. Robot? I found Angela’s monochromatic, all-white aesthetic and styling particularly interesting.

I think her white hair, skin, clothes, and surroundings signify the her innocence, naivety, and sacrifice.

Also that she painted her white walls black as she descended into madness after the attacks.

Angela made some terrible choices in the series but ultimately she is seen as an “angel” by the people who love her (Elliot, Darlene, Price). There was definitely a darkness once she was gone.

These are just my musings but I’d love to hear what other people think!

Shows better than Mr robot?

Do you guys have any shows that are better than Mr. Robot? I’ve watched breaking bad, ozark, peaky blinders, and several others, but I have yet to watch anything that even remotely pales in comparison to Mr robot, with such depth, story telling and character development. I’d love to find something I enjoyed as much as Mr Robot

2 weeks post finale

Its been two weeks since my husband and i finished the series....

At first i hated the ending but now as its settled in I'm sad and I miss Elliot. Rather, I miss not getting a chance to meet the real Elliot in depth. I'm sad we didn't get to see Darlene and Elliot be reunited past the "Hi Elliot". We became so protective of him throughout the series and wanted him to be happy, but finally seeing him be released was a happiness that we know will be short lived once one of the others takes back over or if the mastermind comes back.

Really wish we could have seen a bit more of the real Elliot.

Anyway... what are we supposed to watch now!? Lol. This show was so deeply interesting on so many levels and now we are struggling to pick something else to watch.

Just finished S2E10, first time watching, no spoilers please.

Dominique DiPierro > whole FBI together. No wonder she was in both of those crazy one shot shootout scenes.

Mr Robot is outstanding in terms of psychoanalytic approach

SPOILER ALERT. Advised not to read if you haven’t finished the show.

So, if a Jungian psychoanalyst was looking at the story from the point of view of the archetypes, our Elliot made a journey of integration of his inner parts.

He first had to build animus (male archetype, protective, directive but accepting) that is often presented as a dad’s figure.

He then had to integrate his anima (female part of his psyche, which is often shown as a mom).

And then he had to integrate his inner child and make him feel comfortable and protected, which he didn’t have in his own childhood.

In order to “complete” full integration, one has to understand where’s ego, id or superego are talking. And our Elliot seems to be both, especially superego, except for the fact that he goes against societal morals and rules, as he’s driven by rage. But still has empathy and his moral code (at least before the last season) when he’s grieving Angela’s death.

And I’m not a Jungian or psychologist, but I read lots of psychoanalytical books, so excuse me if some of my interpretations can be wrong.

What a stunningly deep show! I’ve truly never seen anything like this before.

S4 Ep7 Question

I just finished watching season 4, episode 7 (the one with Vera and Krista). Was Elliot (and I presume Darlene, too) actually sexually abused by their father? Or was it a tactic Krista used to trick Vera or something? I know when people in real life have DID (dissociative identity disorder), it’s almost always due to childhood trauma, often sexual. They don’t ever say Elliot has DID, but I think it can be gathered that he likely does. I knew there was a possibility there was something more to cause him to have DID, but I don’t know, I feel confused right now 😩 the scene when Elliot came to that realisation with Krista - I was crying with him; Rami’s acting was phenomenal and heartbreaking. 💔

Who was Ray? S2

Who exactly was Ray (actor: Craig Robinson), and what purpose did his character and story arc serve? I thought it was well done, but unsure how it fits into the grander scheme of things or whether it just didn’t.

Thanks!

Was Price always meant to be a central character?

He obviously played an important role from the get-go, but in reading his Wikipedia after spotting him in Fallout it mentions:

“In 2015, Cristofer made guest appearances in four episodes of season one of Mr. Robot as Phillip Price, the shadowy CEO of the sinister E Corp, and he became a cast member in season two, three, and four.”

This words it like he was just “appearing” in season one but then happened to become a full-time cast member later. Am I reaching?

A question that’s bugging me.

With the twist at the finale and elliot’s various personalities’ roles being revealed i can’t understand something about mr robot.

So we know he is the protector right and the elliot we’ve been watching is the master mind so why was mr robot so adamant at carrying on with the E corp hack even though our elliot backed off?

And most importantly why was this mission more important to him the protector than the host’s life. He literally gave tyrell a gun and told him to shoot him if he backs off of the mission(indirectly but yeah) and when elliot was at the E corp facility that’s about to blow up he wasn’t so concerned about his life but rather doing anything to stop him from stopping him(and saving himself).

Doesn’t look much like a protector to me. From where i’m standing it looks like a big plot hole to me.

init_5. Court scene

When Elliot is in court, he isn’t actually physically there he’s communicating through a video call. Is there any specific reason for this?

[S2E11] A real hex value.

A corrupted hex value conversion.

I found this in one of my favorite episodes of the show. And that's the reason why I love ROT-13 Caesar cypher.
Anyway, I decided to lookup the actual hex value using ASCII.
Since, in the show, the ASCII looks corrupted, I decided to look in to it. Somebody may have posted this already, but who cares? There's always a refresher for this.

So, the hex value that Mr. Robot has found by removing the Perrin and Erdos-Woods number sets is 32, 35, 31, 41, 45, 43, 53, 45, 42, 52, 45, 54, 21
If we remember something about ASCII tables, you know that ASCII table has the corresponding hex value to the symbol. Unicode has it. Basically, every encoding has some kind of hex table to correspond.

So, if we convert back to the ASCII text, we get: 251ASECRET!, instead of garbled mess where E is supposed to be at. And if we convert this to a number, we get +1 251 273 2737, the area code which is for some reason in southern Alabama.

I find fun to solve the ASCII code like this. Every hacker loves 0x41.

Anyway, have fun.

Is there a comprehensive guide to all the hacks features in the show?

I’m aware of the Vice series of articles with the round table reviewing the episodes of S3 & S4, wondering if there is anything like this for S1 &S2. Or a full list of/ guide of the hacks featured in the show?

Mr.Robot is Real

Okay, you might think i'm crazy but no,i'm not crazy, i think Mr.Robot is real for some reasons ,for first i want to say he is not always here , in the season 1, he is obviously not here(maybe not) and for second , why people can see him, i explain, in the 4 season when Darlene is doing a hug at Elliot Alderson, she's after 25 steps, at Mr.Robot who is at 25 steps of Elliot ?? Impossible, and if you want to know where he is not here physically,he's not here when his psy is talking to Elliot Alderson.

I think i finished and say me if you think it's real or not !

I wait your opinion

Dom and Janice in AHS: Delicate

Did anyone else catch this from last week's episode? I was like that's DOM! (I have not watched many AHS seasons and didn't realize she was in previous ones). Then Janice is there and it was such a crazy coincidence for me, as I just finished Mr Robot a few weeks ago.

Phillip Price Actor is in Fallout (Amazon Prime Series)

Like the title says. Michael Cristofer is in Amazon Prime Series Fallout.

I knew he seemed familiar so I looked at the X-ray and yep. It’s him. Glad to see him back and being in this show just made it even better.

Btw, if you are not a Fan of Fallout or haven’t heard of it, the show does explain it to new comers. It might be hard to understand some things like the 1950s retro theme and how things work. But it should be easy to understand. I haven’t watched the whole series but I think he might show up more

Just wanted to let you guys know

Something I haven't seen much discussion about: I love this show's depiction of...

Addiction, particularly to opiates/opioids. Needing them just to keep feeling normal, then just not to feel terrible. The depths of desperation and lengths you'll go to if you're suddenly out. The withdrawals. The (day)dreaming/hallucinating in delirium about suddenly finding more so the withdrawal stops etc.
One minor caveat is that the withdrawal peak only lasted one night as opposed to 3 days to a week, but makes sense for brevity's sake.

They either really did their research or had someone with first hand experience on set. Pretty hard to watch at times, but really well done.
