Rewatching Eureka through a modern accessibility lens, I couldn’t help but notice how the show perpetuates ableist narratives around autism. One of the most glaring examples is the way it treats autism as something to “cure.”
In the episode Smarter Carter (Season 4, Episode 9), Dr. Beverly Barlowe experiments on autistic individuals, attempting to “enhance” their cognitive abilities. The implication? That autistic people are somehow broken and in need of fixing. This is a harmful trope that reinforces the false idea that neurodivergence is a flaw rather than a valid way of experiencing the world.
Not to mention season 1 when they talk about finding a cure and all the times Allison wants him to be "normal"
Autistic people don’t need to be “cured.” What they need is acceptance, accommodation, and respect. Shows like Eureka—which otherwise celebrate intelligence and innovation—should do better in how they represent neurodiversity.
Around the time when Eureka was originally on, there was a commercial/series of commercials for some kind of medication that used the Eureka theme music. The commercial showed very colorfully dressed people whose clothing and accessories would make them look like a food, and said food was displayed on a split screen with them, e.g. a woman with a wide brim hat would be compared to a donut. I assume the medication would have to do with digestion or cholesterol or somethjng to do with dietary health. Does anyone remember this commercial?
Just finished Season 1 and it's becoming my new favorite show
Have you guys seen influence from other shows. I see a lot of Twin Peaks with some stranger things mixed in and even the flash early seasons with all the lab stuff
Anyone else notice this show influencing other shows etc
SPOLIER FOR ANYONE WHO HASNT WATCHED ALL THE WAY THROUGH
I'm rewatching for like the 5th time and seriously the amount of times Jack has almost died to save the town why doesn't he get a medal or something? I know it wouldn't exist on record outside of Eureka but come on. Invisibility radiation, driving the vehicle at the missile, the two suns episode where he and Zane literally run under a sun turning into a supernova. And he gets....bubkis.
I saw somebody mention the show on r/forgottentv and I thought, hey I remember that show! So I started watching. I'm currently on season 2 amd I have no one else to talk about it with so here are my thoughts:
Much like this sub I am no longer supporting Amazon, however it is the only place that I can see to stream Eureka. Anyone know where else I can easily watch? In the US in case that matters.
I never got why she would be considered. All she had was she wanted to be an astronaut based on a childhood wish, and not in a reality based way like Fargo and Allison wanting to be in space camp. Basically because it was cool to be an astronaut. Zane tells her she knew science but, seriously, she would be competing against the other legit elite scientists in Eureka. Could anyone come up with a plausible reason?
Jack and Allison end up together. If he ends up with anyone in the end I'd pick Fargo over her at this point. She was good in the first season.. the season finale was great.. but after they went back and changed the past she has kind of sucked. I always hated her ex-husband too (afraid to look him up and get spoiled) but I think that was kind of the point but they even made his character worse before killing him off. She's a great actrice.. there are scenes where she isn't playing the character, thinking of when everyone wanted Jack, and she was great. The character just annoys me -- let me know if this is a bad take... I'll probably finish the show in a few days since I've been binging the show instead of paying attention to the news.
I've been thinking with Kevin's constant interest in Jack's in job I would love a sequel with Kevin as sheriff. The only issue I see is they keep trying to reboot things more dark and gritty and I would want the same tone. What would you want?
That Johnson and Johnson stock joke didn't age too well...
Is it just me or is he like the manliest looking man in this season.
This show, it's like mac and cheese while cozied up under a heating blanket on a cold day. But me-oh-my, I think the writers really did Allison dirty. Her character blows, and gets progressively more lame as the seasons go on. It's unfortunate because in the beginning she seems poised to be strong intelligent babe. But every rewatch she grows to be the most unlikable character throughout the entire show. She makes odd choices and her character doesn't make sense, her attitude is inconsistent and is a drag on the show. For example, S4E4 when she compromises Kevins rocket with oxygen fuel- this discredits her supposed genius level intelligence and makes her a deeply questionable person and parent.
It's too bad, everyone else, though silly, all seem to fit somehow. The show is silly, I'm not necessarily asking it to not be, but her character is a drag and lacks coherence.
Curious, does anyone know- what was the deal with AB being such a lame duck?
Just interested as for me it was a potential influence to take more science classes until I discovered I sucked at labs but it did influence how strong my feelings towards the importance of science and valuing science and science literacy are
Hello! I haven’t watched season 5. I have, however, watched a few music videos of Jack and Allison scenes on YouTube. I saw a scene where they are in fast-rising water reciting marriage vows. Is this the last episode? Do they…um, die? Say it isn’t so! 🤦🏾♀️
Eureka is technically kinda "hidden" from society. What happens there stays there. But besides that the town isn’t that heavy guarded (at least no Checkpoints around the borders of the town). But I always wondered myself if people have access to the internet we know (Search Engines and Social Media).
The show is set between 2006 - 2012.
Internet Explorer launched in 1995
Google launched in 1998
Facebook launched in 2004
YouTube and Reddit launched in 2005
Twitter launched in 2006
And Instagram launched in 2010
Some of those Platforms got their fame a few years after they got released but pretty sure that Explorer, Google, Facebook, YouTube, Reddit and Twitter were well known back in the late 2000s and early 2010s so I wonder if Zoe can use Facebook to interact with others outside Eureka?
Or do they use sanctioned websites?
Me personally I wouldn’t. The deaths in Eureka seem more Unique and painful than in any other normal town
Dear Admins, if you read this I got some ideas for this subreddit.
The first one is that you can use this Jack Carter Snoo as profile picture for this subreddit .
My second idea is the caption that says how many people are online on this sub.
Instead of saying "X people are online." it should say "X people are working in GD."
I hope Ya’ll like my ideas. Peace Ya’ll!
Hey! Use my code W1MDFK on Eureka Surveys and unlock $1 credit.
Agents of Shield season 7 ep 3 .Anyone else seen this ep. ,the part where coulson amd simmons walk into the area 51 lab with all the scientists working on tech..The music in the background turns into a very simliar tune ,to eureka background music..Gave me flashbacks to Eureka especially season 4 ep 1 when they time travelled back to 1947 and the early army base that became Eureka township
I am rewatching Eureka for like the 10th time and I noticed in season 4 Episode 9 "I'll be seeing you" that Beverly says to Grant "I know about your passion. How you formed this consortium of scientists who wanted to protect us from ourselves," I believe she is talking about the organization she worked for in both the original timeline and the new one and not just about Eureka since it was already underway when he disappeared.
Use this code AI4LN4 on Eureka Surveys and unlock a short 80p survey.
The timeline had changed, and the artifact had not even been stored in section 5. You'd think that would be his first thing to check on since he loved her so much.
I am rewatching for n time and funniest part for me is how they in season one kill pizza guy (sarah) and nobody ever mentioned it😂 like remember that kid that work as delivery guy and hous kill him?😂🙌
He was in several episodes in Season 1 and seemed to be Henry's right-hand man at the repair shop. He is completely gone by Season 2 and never mentioned again.
With the way the the actors played the characters It really feels that this is how they are in real life. For example, Fargo’s actor (Neil Grayson) suits the character so well it’s hard to see him playing a different role than some nerdy dude. I just think the acting and writing was so well done it all seemed a little too realistic. Sure they did have moments where it was kinda cringe worthy but most of the time you’d think these characters are in fact real people and not just actors. I’m not sure if I’m the only one who thought that but I just wanted to share my opinion.
