Come discuss Bakemonogatari, Nisemonogatari, and related series here!
Bakemonogatari (化物語 "Ghostory") is a Japanese light novel series written by Nisio Isin (ill. Vofan; pub. by Kodansha under the Kodansha Box imprint). The story centers on Koyomi Araragi, a 3rd-year high school student who finds himself mixed up with all kinds of ghosts, demons, apparitions, and cute girls!
Sorry, I stuttered.

Firstly, a happy new year to you, my friends
Next, a while ago I started creating a rank for female characters and it was a little difficult, because there were some changes (today, for example, I changed the rank again)
Anyway, I would like to share my rank with you and see everyone's opinion
Note: In the case of Hanekawa, I am referring to both her and her Black version
Shinobu Oshino
Tsubasa Hanekawa ("Black")
Yotsugi Ononoki
Hitagi Senjougahara
Ougi Oshino
Sodachi Oikura
Mayoi Hachikuji
Suruga Kanbaru
Nadeko Sengoku
Tsukihi Araragi
Karen Araragi
Hey, what do you think? What would change in the ranking?
Hello, I want to buy all the novels of the Monogatari series, but do you advise me to buy boxes or buy one by one?
hey yall. i’ve just rewatched the series for the first time and i decided to go for a chronological rewatch as it was a few years back when i watched it first and not only could i not remember some details but also remembered being very confused whilst watching, and my rewatch confirmed that. my question is, why is the community so against a chronological watch order? don’t get me wrong, i get it’s not the “intended” watch order (novel release is how the author wrote it after all), and I also understand that some parts of the show raise questions that get answered later, but i feel like just because that’s the “official” way doesn’t make it better. so im genuinely asking those who support a release order viewing, why? its so confusing and lots of questions don’t get answered for multiple arcs and it just leaves the viewers confused and with unanswered questions for multiple parts of the series, or parts the introduce ideas or further acts that are left until the end (im looking at you, koyomimonogatari, which is just left as “side stories to watch at the end” despite containing important information, such as the introduction of ideas like Kanbaru’s bath showing your partner or the Kitahebi Shrine being not its original location),which just ruins the viewing experience. this is all just my opinion of course and would love to hear what the community has to say.

Excerpt from Ikusamonogatari fan translation. I almost bursted out laughing.
So I'm just watching Nekomonogatari and I'm on episode 4, I just had to stop for a minute to gather my thoughts (so sorry if this rant feels a bit all over the place) cause it really got to a point where it triggered a lot of the problems I was having already regarding how the whole abuse plot is handled.
I think that, even though I'm still starting this whole series (I've watched Bakemonogatari and Kizumonogatari already), I got an idea on the style it follows and I really like its absurdity, however, I do feel Hanekawa's background in this part was touched very lightly and carelessly even by this show's standards when it comes to tackle the really deep topics on its plot (when we first listen what happened to her face, this is completely ignored just so we can listen to Araragi speak on what he's gonna make Hanekawa do in order to gain his silence. This went for too long and was very weird to me cause, a friend who also happens to be the girl u like literally confesses she was going through domestic abuse)
I also understand the series is very philosophical too, hence morally grey characters being a huge part of the story, but it lost me when Meme started this whole "let's see the other pov" thing on how Hanekawa's behaviour was so annoying to the point that he could understand her parents physically snapping and that he was surprise on how it didn't happen before. I really didn't get this dialogue cause it's (to me) a very dumb and immature logic and also very detached from reality regarding what's being discussed here.
I tried to look for some discussion on this but I couldn't really find it. Am I the only one who has problems with how this was treated? Was anyone else disappointed or has mixed feelings on this? Please, let me know.
I am Japanese. I often look at quotes from the monogatari series and am saddened to see that famous quotes and wordplay in Japan are not so much noticed overseas.
She was already the main love interest of Araragi even back then but classifying her as THE female lead still feels wrong to me.
What do you think?
