I donated blood yesterday and got this cool Marshall Ramsey t-shirt. There's still time to get one!

Change

I seek to express my concern without appearing impolite, as I have a genuine inquiry. Why are there so few resources available for women who are trying to escape abusive situations? I am aware of a woman, who has less than three months before her child is born and already has one child, she's been enduring a difficult circumstance for approximately five years. She feels overwhelmed by the situation she has mistakenly equated with love, yet she is now desperate for change. Living in a remote area without a vehicle, she faces significant challenges, including a lack of financial resources. She is contemplating leaving under the cover of night on foot, as she feels compelled to act before the arrival of her unborn child, but the absence of support and resources makes her situation even more precarious.

She's been in an abusive relationship, and her spouse has put her in a situation where she's isolated herself from any and everyone out of fear of making him upset I know it's so foolish to allow someone to keep you stagnant out of fear of what they'd do if they knew you were actually trying to better yourself, and that's why she's determined to leave. She's about to have two children, and she knows she can't stay and accept what she's been accepting any longer.  No family (unfortunely, her parents we're addicts; she was raised by grandparents that are no longer here); she feels so alone... except for her children.

What should she do? She knows it's dangerous to leave on foot with a child and pregnant but she's desperate to leave....

Accessible Beaches/Coastal Mississippi

Hey everyone!

I recently was asked if there were any accessible beaches or towns that are moderately accessible for a family member who is a veteran in a motorized scooter. Does anyone have any suggestions? I know some parking is close to the beaches in some areas, but wasn’t sure if anyone had experience or recs in this area.

MS Supreme Court Districts

Where can I find my Supreme Court district?

I see the sample ballot on the Sec of State website, but it’s not clear which district I’m in. I’m in Rankin county. District 1 says “(Central)” so I’m guessing that’s the one. Is that right?

I’ve been back in MS for 3 years and every time an election comes around, I find it nearly impossible to find who I’m voting for in the down ballot races. Seems like that shouldn’t be so hard to find.

Problems with MS Mobile ID and iPhone 16

Has anybody been able to successfully get their id to scan into the ms mobile id app with the new iPhone. We have 3 new phones in our household and none of them will take an id. We get timed out and told scan failed. Chat support doesn’t offer much help. All the older phones worked fine.

Keep seeing different concerts being promoted on tv

Is it me or I kept seeing promos of different concerts at the Montgomery Performing Arts Centre on the local channel here in Mississippi? This also has me wondering if Ticketmaster is doing this then they can promote more artists to come to the Brandon Amphitheater, Thalia Mara Hall (Once it’s back open and in safe condition due to the mold and other safety issues that they have), MS Coliseum( which needs a massive overhaul including more hotels and other nightlife in the vicinity of the coliseum) even more music festivals 🤔🥺

Would a Wash-and-Fold Laundry Service Be Helpful in Meridian and Surrounding Areas?

Hey Mississippi! My partner and I are thinking about starting a wash-and-fold laundry service in Meridian and nearby areas, but we only want to bring it to the community if there’s a real need. The idea is simple: a convenient pickup and delivery service that handles all your laundry washing, drying, and folding, so you can save time. We’d love to hear from you:

Would this be something you’d find useful?

Which parts of the county would benefit the most?

Are there any specific features you’d like to see, like same-day service or eco-friendly options?

Thanks so much for any feedback you can share! Your input will help us decide if this is something that could make life easier for our community.

Recs for a stop in Jackson

Hello! Young family (with a 3.5 year old and infant) driving from Austin to ATL in a couple weeks. Our overnight stop is going to be Jackson.

Can y’all recommend us some mid-level hotels along I-20 that are safe and close to food and maybe a playground?

Just looking for local opinions! If you were visiting Austin, you might pick a normal holiday inn but a local would tell you to stay away from the area you know?

Class D license practice tests.

Most states classify regular licenses as Class D, whereas in Mississippi Class R is a regular license. I'm trying to find resources to study for the class D exam in Mississippi, but not coming up with many results. To all who have a Class D, how did you prepare?

Voters of Tomorrow campaigns at MSU to verify student voter registration.

Have you received your Voter ID Card, because some students have reported that they have not, prompting VOT to give students a place to report these instances. Ask a student at Mississippi State if they have had issues getting their Voter ID Card at this link -> https://docs.google.com/forms/d/e/1FAIpQLSfaeRZ7h4Fg5lHhhePJtGrNcyDvGhEZqhzGxDHIYt7jiX0A4Q/

Thoughts on USM from other Transfer Students

Hi all. Not trying to attack USM but I’m curious on other transfer students thoughts on the university.

Some back story. I’ve moved around a lot and been to a few universities. Got my A.S. at UVU and attended USU for two semesters when I lived in Utah. I loved it there and aside from a few odd classes, I thought both universities were great and enjoyed my time there. Transferred to the USM Gulf Park campus this year and I won’t go into detail but I’ve been less than pleased with my experience so far.

I’m debating leaving the university and school in general, and I’m wondering if others have felt the same way, if it’s just the campus, or if you guys think I’m just the odd man out.

Work trip in Jackson

Hi! 24F, just had a four day work trip in Jackson and had to commute everyday to a small town an hour outside of Jackson.

I just wanted to say how much I enjoyed my work trip. I’m a native Texan, and have to travel a lot for work. This year, I’ve been sent a lot to the east coast, and finally got sent on a work trip to the south.

Coming from Texas, (driving south from Jackson), y’all are some pretty good drivers. NO ONE rode up my butt, in fact, I admitted to myself that I was driving too fast because of my Texas driving habits. I could actually go the speed limit. I adore all the beautiful trees that lined the roads, and just the backroads were so peaceful.

I realized how much I missed true southern hospitality. At the small town I was working in, I found a coffee shop, and asked the two baristas if they had some nail salon recs, and we ended up talking for 15 minutes.

I ended up getting my nails done in Jackson, and it was such a pleasure to get my nails done in a REAL salon, not one of those gimmicky “aesthetic” ones. This one, was only three ladies working, by appointment, and everyone was chatting and laughing, and singing to the music playing. Felt like a scene out of steel magnolias or something.

The salon was humble but immaculate. The manicurist took her time on my nails, and was amazing. My french gel manicure was only $45 and looks phenomenal. Where I’m from, all the salons have at least 20 tables and at least 10 pedicure chairs, and you feel just like another number, and it’s not a relaxing experience. Oh, and a simple gel manicure, without french, will cost you $80. Without tip.

I ate some bombbbb food, in Jackson and out in the country. Had some really good Ramen, Jamaican, and Soul food. Still thinking about the burger I got from a food truck out in the country, it was so simple, but so so good. Your girl had lots of food options!

I enjoyed taking the long way and seeing beautiful porches, heck I even waved to a older lady in her rocking chair, (like I’m some local or something lol). TSA and the airline worker who checked in my bag were even pleasant!!!

I will be volunteering myself for more work trips in Mississippi, y’all some good, hardworking people!

Nashville to Mississippi - where?

I am a freelance writer in Nashville thinking of moving to a small(sh) town in Mississippi mostly to buy a relatively inexpensive house with the money I would get from my Nashville house. I am old (think 72 but still riding horses and doing yoga if that places me at all). I no longer go out much just read, hang with my pups and go for the occasional walk. My house and car are paid for but I need to free up money and historically I can live low on the hog. I find Mississippi fascinating, disturbing maybe, but fascinating. I did a piece for the New York Times about traveling the trace from Music City to Tupelo and that got me thinking. I was not a fan of Tupelo but thought maybe Natchez or Hattiesburg (but winds?) I was raised in Miami so I do know to live in ungodly hot weather. Looking for a town maybe with a town square or a small college. Would love to be near the coast but …. You know. Mostly I need it to be cheap to plan this last run. Thanks

What's it like for a singke black woman?

I'm a single black woman in my early 40s. I just found out my job went the extra mile to hire me being that I live in VA and they weren't setup in this state for employees. I'm being considered for a promotion and I haven't felt this appreciated at work in a long time.

I have considerable equity in my home and in about 2 years I'll be in a position to buy and and sell my current home. With the housing costs in MS, i could buy a home without a mortgage which is very appealing. I'm from LA (boot) and live in VA so racists politics don't scare me, but what is it like for a single black woman in her 40s in general. I'm especially interested in the creepy old big houses in the country that need light fixing with a lot of land for chickens, and goats where I can later build a guest house for my daughter.

1.what towns should I avoid? 2. Which towns are more progressive? 3. Is it easy to make friends? 4. How's dating? 5. Is it as racist day-to-day as everyone outside of MS thinks? 6. If you weren't from there, knowing what you know, would you move there? Why or why no?
