Are there any good thrift stores that sell y2k vintage type clothes? Preferably in 865
The title is self-explanatory. I know some states allow riders to not carry their regs but I'm not sure if Tennessee has the same laws. Thank you in advanced for the responses!
We finally have......water?
I'm going to be doing my first show in Nashville later this month and need to know if I need to register for sales tax ahead of time or if I can just fill out a form and mail a check afterwards? I know some states have transient vendor permits for folks that sell at conventions and such without a permanent location in the state. So figured I'd check.
Tell your trucker buddies to stay off US129, "The Dragon."
Since the interstates are closed on the usual routes in east Tennessee truckers are looking for other routes to destinations.
Last night a 18-wheeler with a 53' trailer got stuck on the Tennessee side of US129 and had the road shut down for better than 4 hours.
A couple hours after that another one got into a wreck on US129 a few miles south of there in North Carolina and had the roads shut down again.
Smart route is stay on the interstates. I-75/I-81 Atlanta to Knoxville or use I-95.
Check the 511 state maps.
(For those that didn't know every state has a 511 map for the public to use to see road closures on their state DOT website that gets updated by DOT personnel and police as things happen).
Is there any info regarding how long I-40 thru the mountains of TN and NC to Asheville will be closed? I’m guessing a minimum of 12 months and probably more like 18 months, but thought I would see if anyone has heard anything official yet. It’s got to be a monumental task, they have to assess the damage, have a plan on how to solve it, get a contractor in with heavy machinery, etc. I’m guessing they will have to have some type of cantilevered setup. I don’t see them being able to expand to the cliff side.
The assessment of the damage will take a while. There is visible damage but also other places that may look fine but need to be tested and evaluated. A priority system setup, etc. the engineering work is daunting.
A lot of engineering work will have to be first devoted to the existing citizens and existing washed out bridges and roads.
Just wanted to know, what was the atmosphere and the difference from then and now.
What were you all doing in those days? Activities and Hobbies? Music that was listen to?, etc.
(Doing this because I am making a Charmed Reboot fanfic, I decided to set it in Memphis, in tribute to Shannen Doherty)
A bunch of areas are still under boil warnings or do not have access/stable access to clean water right now due to the damage from the hurricane, so I wanted to share some knowledge on water purification, filtration, and boil warnings just in case anyone might find it useful. These are also great to have just in case, as they have long expiration dates, though hopefully these will be useful when people get back to enjoying the outdoors on their terms in the future.

Why use water filters/water purifiers?
REI: Choosing a Backpacking Water Filter (detailed info on water filters vs purifiers, the difference between the two, examples of each, how they work, links to ones to buy)

Things to keep in mind:
Camp Showers:
GearLab: The 5 Best Camping Showers of 2024: Tested (camping showers that work on limited water availability, some heated some not, some full privacy showers like small tents some not)
Note: Travel centers/truck stops often have showers as well. Not the cheapest, but they are available. It does depend on each individual location and availability, so it's worth a check.
Just watching the news for the first time in a while because I want to stay informed about hurricane events in the Southeast. I’ve watched two different networks that sway different ways and it’s so full of propaganda. It really irritates me. People are going through hell and one channel recommends that we all get our HVAC checked lol “It may cost a little upfront but will make a difference in the long run” What a coincidence that Bill Lee owns a huge HVAC company in Tennessee. The other one is taking the time to assess how this will affect the election instead of focusing on people dying or losing everything they own.
Hello!
My coworker is her mother's full time caregiver. It's one of those situations that has slowly happened over time. She moved her in with her and then over the last couple years her mother's health and mental health has declined and it's become a full time job for her even though she also works full time. It has become unmanageable and she just needs some help. She doesn't even have a handicap placard for her car and she takes her mother to appointments and has to assist her in and out of the car. Where is a good place to start to see if she qualifies for any assistance or some resources I can direct her towards? She is not a very tech savvy person so I offered to help and she accepted my offer. So if you can guide me in the right direction I would greatly appreciate it! She is an incredible person and watching her struggle with this has been rough. Thanks for any help you guidance you can offer!
TLDR: Where can someone who is their parents full-time caregiver find resources and assistance?
I'm trying to figure out my options for getting from TX into C. Virginia.
I know about the devestation and recovery occuring right now but wanted to get an idea on road conditions.
Google maps is pointing to taking I-40E into Knoxville and then I-81 N to 95. It'll be just me and my dog and I don't want to get into a situation where we are stranded or in any trouble with the roads.
I've been looking at the news and trying to find any info on blocked highways but not much is given.

Hey there internet strangers.
In just over a month, my family and I are moving from Seattle to Columbia, and I'd like to mentally prepare myself...
I am super nervous as I've never lived outside the Seattle area, let alone outside of the state.
I consider myself fairly liberal and lean toward voting blue. However, I'm not very politically motivated. I'm just going to keep my head down til November is over 😅
I also really can't stand country music, and I have this unrealistic fear that it's going to be blasted at me non-stop once I get there...
Lastly, I'm a casual marijuana enjoyer. Which is fully legal here in WA, and I'll typically make a bi-weekly trip to a nearby dispensary. From what I see online, it's going to be very difficult to obtain in TN.
Tips? Tricks? Advice? (Moving to a small house in Columbia, TN)
EDIT: When I said I lean left. I meant that so literally. I respect a ton of conservative values. I'm a fan and supporter of 2A. The most political thing I've ever even discussed or posted about both online and in person is simply: "I voted!" Or "Black Lives Matter" and that is the absolute extent of my political investment... I'm not afraid of being in a different political environment... I just find political branding (blue or red) to be annoying.... you know, like country music 😏😏) As far as "keep my head down through November." I was referring to not just the election, but the CMAs as well. (Mostly a joke) I do think marijuana should be legal, and women shouldn't need to go camping to protect their rights, but I'm not out here trying to change or disrespect anyone else... ever.
