Game Day Parking?

Hello, I am a commuter to MSU and I am going to the game today. I am unsure whether I can park anywhere my parking pass allows, or if there is anywhere free I can park. I don’t mind walking!

Good place to watch Formula One?

Are there any local venues that host watch parties for Formula One races? I’m in town this weekend for parents weekend and my daughter and I want to watch the race.

MSU are no longer partners with 21 apartments (Yugo) 🤷🏻‍♂️

Does anyone know why they are no longer partners, or why should I even care as a student?

My friends and I were just about to sign a contract with them until the international student advisor told us to avoid them (specifically them between all the others). She said that many students who are residents there always (weekly) come to the university with problems, but they can't deal with them because they're no longer partners.

I don't even know what kind of problems the university can solve if they were from another housing company.

If someone has had to deal with this situation, please share with us. 🙏

Housing for a moroccan engineering student (pls help😭)

Hi everyone, I wrote this post to seek your kind help to find housing in Starkville for my brother who is going to be an exchange student there this year (in January Insha Allah).

He has applied for Mississippi university's dorms, but he didn't get any answers yet so we are looking for alternative options to fall back on.

What are the most trustworthy websites/agencies or methods we can employ to find an affordable place and a serious landlord? We tried collegeview, but apparently they are going to open fall 2025 application, and he is going to start in spring 2025. 🥹

I'd also love insight from any person who lives in Starkville, especially moroccans who went through university exchanges. He is an UIR student. He told me he has looked for alumnis of the exchange program but he couldn't find any aside from one who seemed to be rather haughty and didn't want to help. 🤦🏻‍♀️🙄

My brother has contacter starkville retreat, but my dad is extremely wary and thinks they might be scammers.

I'm sorry if my question is vague, I don't know much about life in the US. Our budget is around 500$/month, preferrably close enough to Mississippi state university.

PS: afaik we don't have anyone who can go there and physically look there so we're mostly trying our luck through the internet :(.

Big big thanks in advance.💜

Election watch party

Does anyone know of any left leaning watch parties for the election watch party? I plan to come down to stay with my boyfriend, and wanted to know if there was anywhere we could go to watch results come in.

Towing

Hog fan coming in peace. I got towed at the college view apartments. (Thought I was in guest) From what I can find the tow companies are predatory and kind of untouchable. I could not find any signs displaying the number of the towing company (I thought my car was stolen at first) Does anybody know where they are posted? I did find some tow signs but none with the number which I think is illegal. I’d be willing to pay somebody to help me get some pictures of the signs if they exist as I’m 7 hours away now. Thanks!

Edit: Apparently not a requirement to have the number posted which I think is insane.

Edit 2: I think it actually is illegal! Legalese is tough but I think they are violating 3 parts of the law

  1. Not having the number posted (3)(c)(iii)
  2. Not having the words “tow away zone” or large enough letters (3)(c)(i)
  3. Exceeding reasonable posted rates (3)(g)

Mississippi towing law

Edit 3: Shout out AdGlittering2 for helping me get pictures! It’s a technicality but they don’t have the words “tow away zone” on the sign so it’s not legal. I’m going to file in small claims court. I’ll let you know how it goes, would encourage everyone to do the same until they change the sign. (It’s also facing backwards and hidden behind a lamp post)

929 is confirmed coming back!

929 is apparently moving into the old Occasions at 115 E Main Street, they were outside giving away coffee at Pumpkin Palooza, and have paper on the door that says "Future home of 929".

Calculus II

How crazy would I be to do a virtual winter intersession for Cal II? Has anyone taken it asynchronous? Share your thoughts and what the class used like canvas/textbook/MindTap.... Also, was it manageable? I would only take that one.

On the Christian looneybins who often visit MSU to "demonstrate"

It's my first semester here but I must say that overall I'm pretty frustrated with this fundamentalist Christian lot that seems to visit campus fairly often. Their signs monger fear among and alienate people on the basis of their sexual orientation, on their usage of swear words, and what videogames they play (???), among many other ludicrous metrics that a benevolent, loving God would not care about. Not to mention the fact that I saw and picked up today several of these ridiculous "comic strip" leaflets they handed out to people only for them to litter them on the ground. Or they littered them about campus themselves, which is even worse. If you're gonna keep coming here please stop giving out this drivel that seemingly nobody cares about enough to discard in a trashcan a few feet away instead of on the ground.

And, not long ago, Jehovah's Witnesses were literally handing out Watchtower materials outside McCool. I never thought I'd see that in the 21st century but here we are. I know they are operating fully within their rights and that their being here was within protocol but it's honestly just scary to witness. I wish we could get people that aren't blatant homophobes or part of thinly-veiled cults to visit campus. Surely I can't be the only one in thinking that it isn't a good look for MSU?

Need Help with University Pickup for International Students

Hey everyone, I'm an international student who's booked a flight from my home country to ATL on December 30. I have another flight from ATL to GTR on the same day.

My university offers a free pickup service, but the problem is it only operates from January 3 to January 14. I'm not sure what to do as I'll be arriving in ATL much earlier.

Does anyone have any recommendations or advice on how I can get from the airport to my university on December 30? I'm open to any suggestions, whether it's public transportation, taxis, or other options.

This will help me and my colleagues as well.

Thanks in advance!

Howdy, I'm an Aggie coming from Texas for the game. Any food recommendations? (it's our first time in Starkville).

I'm traveling to Starkville with my wife and son tomorrow to attend the game, and wondering what local food places y'all recommend.

We've never been to Starkville, so I'd rather visit and try a local restaurant.

Thanks, and good luck to both teams tomorrow.

Old Main Scholarship

I’m an MS State alum helping a friend apply as a freshmen. He is out of state but has high financial need. I’m wondering how much the Old Main scholarship is on average? If you received the scholarship, how much did you get per year? And were you in state or out of state?

Non corporate complexes rentals.

After reading comments on other posts about corporate complexes rentals at starkville, I don't know how to trust any of them. It seems like most of the experience where bad, eather because of how they're managed (Surprising you with a fee that is not even in the contract.) or how not clean they are. I just want a clean place and preferably close to the campus. It's ok to not have a pool or party events like the popular complexes, thoes are pointless ro me.

I have tried to look for some local landlords and I still didn't find any.

Market place and Facebook groups are only offering subleases on the same students apartment.

And also if someone have any good experiences at them pleas leave a comment it will help a lot?

Which is better for MKT 3013?

I am debating whether or not, I should take MKT 3013 in the winter or full spring semester.

I know that Robert teaches it in the winter and Melissa teaches it in the normal semesters (Fall/Spring).

I am trying to decide before I register for classes.

Thinking of applying to MSU to do my MBA

Any opinions on the matter? I currently have two bachelors degrees (one BBA and the other in European Business and Geopolitics) from two AACSB accredited European business schools with a graduating GPA of 3.7 in the top five of both of my programs. I am a HUGE over thinker and self-doubter. It says of the MBA website that the program is super competitive, what are my chances?? Obviously you can't see my application, but anyone got some honesty to share?
Secondly, I just wrote my statement of purpose however the site says I should check the college of business's home page for specifics on how to write the SOP. This magical site where the instructions are has still not be found... so anyone's input with experience there would be highly appreciated!

Jan 2025 Sublease in the Cotton District

Hey y’all! I’m looking for a sublease for my apartment in the district. It’s a pet-friendly loft with in unit laundry, a gas stove, built in drawers, and a big closet. You’ll also have a designated parking spot. It’s about a 5-10 minute walk to Davis Wade.

The sublease would start January 1st. Rent is $795 before utilities. Message me if you’re interested and I will give more details.

admission chances?

Admission chances

I know this sub probably gets alot of these but I’m sorry just be honest with me.

I toured early September and absolutely loved it. The campus, people and culture.

I have a 78% unweighted GPA and a 930 SAT. I took the October SAT and am hoping I got atleast an 1000. I’m an out of state student from the northeast and go to the number one catholic school in my county and it has been number one for a number of years in a row. I was a camp counselor for one year and am currently a busboy/runner at a restaurant I’ve been there for about a month and work 3-4 days a week and plan on continuing working. I would say I have around 150 volunteer hours most of those come from a mission trip I took my junior year to the southern border to give aid and community service to migrants. Community college is not an option for me. I see a lot of people recommending people attend CC then transfer but I am not going to do that if I don’t get in i’m going somewhere else. I want to major in Buinesss Administration and Some type of film/ writing major. I could go in undecided as I know Buinesss is a very popular major and then could transfer to the business school. I think a lot of people look at the high acceptance rate and say I should be good however a decent number of students applied last year from my school and only half got in. I plan on applying as soon as I get my SAT score back around October 18th. So hopefully I will have applied before anyone in my school. I plan on applying through Miss state and not the common app, Although I might apply through Common app if they prefer it or my counselor recommends it. I am taking economics Honors second semester and I think they can see that on my senior course schedule but I will have applied and probably get my admission status back before I start that. That will be my only honors/ap i’ve taken.

I think that covers most of it hopefully I didn’t miss anything. Again I know this sub gets a lot of these and I apologize but please be honest with me I am very worried and just want to know what people think. Thanks!

Edit: I forgot I wrestled one year (jv) and played rugby for one year (varsity) both during my freshmen year.
