Where should I propose

Me and my long term partner are coming to the US from Scotland in October. My girlfriend has no idea, as I've always been not great with money that I've saved up for 2 years to get a ring and I want to propose in a super special place on our trip to US, which we've been talking about doing our whole relationship. We're arrive in Nashville the drive to Memphis, then Natchez, then finish in New Orleans. I'd love any ideas for a beautiful spot to propose, not super busy, but scenic and special. Any recommendations of what to do after to celebrate would be unreal too🤠

Recommendations for Tupelo - Jackson section of Natchez Trace Parkway

Hi,

We will be travelling from Tupelo to Jackson on the NTP then over to Vicksburg.

Night 1 Tupelo

Night 2 ?

Night 3?

Night 4 - Jackson.

We are wondering about places to stay and things to see in between these two places in MS, focussing on traveling the parkway, or would it be worth pressing on towards Natchez town itself too.

Thanks!

Natchez family history & ancestry

Hello everyone!

I’m a genealogist & I am trained in discovering local Mississippi family lineages and stories through vital records, census records, and newspapers.

This is the interest form I put together for anyone interested in learning more about their personal Mississippi family history. I create family trees, ancestral maps, and historical road trip itineraries based on YOUR personal family history! It’s a great way to connect with your heritage and wonderful knowledge pass down to future generations.

LINK TO INTEREST FORM: Family History Interest Form

Here are some things you can discover from my research:

  • Newspaper articles about your ancestors (Crime? Scandal? Who knows!)
  • Custom ancestral mapping showing your approximate ethnic admixture
  • Most common causes of death in your family history
  • United States migration mapping showing how your ancestors migrated throughout the country
  • Your great-great-great grandparents’ names
  • Most popular professions and careers in your family history
  • Photographs of your ancestors you have never seen before (Found in Newspaper archives, I have subscriptions to several newspaper websites)

I have a degree in Anthropology and have spent several years working for a professional genealogy company. I have been working as an individual genealogist for about 6 years. If you have any questions about my research, please fill out an interest form or email: heritagehuntersgenealogy@gmail.com

For those of you with ancestry outside of Mississippi, please send me a message. I’d be happy to help you or direct you to a better suited genealogist. Thanks!

This subreddit seems a bit lonely for posts. I'm from Louisiana and I've been doing business in Natchez for over a year now. Don't know why it took me so long to really discover the people and sights of Downtown Natchez. I'm hooked

Restaurant recommendations?

My parents moved back to Natchez a couple of years ago, and I want to get them a gift card to a local restaurant. When I visit, we usually either go to the Maltshop or Restaurant 1818 at Monmouth. I’m looking for something in between those two extremes - good food, mid-range price. Any cuisine is fine, but they don’t drink.

I know those are pretty broad parameters, so many thanks in advance if you have any suggestions.

Any Immigration Volunteers helping transport Asylum Refugees to the airport?

Not sure if anyone will see this, just looking if any charities or groups helping Asylum detainees at Adam's Being released to get to New Orleans Airport? I'm doing a favor for a friend and bought his flight from New Orleans to Nebraska. They will not release him unless private or commercial transportation picks him up. I'm sure I can help with expenses, I just don't want to book a private taxi or uber for $300 as they will no longer apparently drop them off at a bus station, which I honestly don't blame them if they didn't already have a ticket.

New to area and need vet recommend

We have an older dog that’s got MCT and bad knees, I waited to move before having the next round done because it was a 1200 mile move. But now I need suggestions. Who’s good? What do you like about the clinic? Also if you didn’t prefer a vet why? Thanks

Looking for a gravestone

Hi, here's an uncommon request : to find a gravestone in Natchez cemetery.

I'm french. I went in Natchez a couple years ago and walked through the cemetery. I saw there a couple's gravestone which really moved me. It was written (I don't remember the full text) : « Together we xxxx, we xxxx, we loved, Together we rest ».

I was too moved to think of taking a photo of it, but I still remember this stone after years. I really would love to find the full text and maybe to get a photo of it. Since I can’t come again in America, would it be possible for someone to send me these informations ? It was a relatively recent grave (maybe from the 2000’s), in the south part of the cemetery, I think.

I've already asked the cimetery last year but no answer.

Thanks a lot.

What to know when moving to Natchez?

What things would you wished you had know before moving? Did you relocated from a large city? Do you have any regrets? Have you found any amazing perks besides history of the area?

Anniversary Trip

My wife and I are looking to take a weekend trip in late November for our 10th anniversary. I think we have decided on Natchez. We love history and antiquing. What should we expect or what do you recommend?
