Hi everyone,
I currently live in Calgary but am considering moving to Canmore with my two autistic sons. I’d love to hear from local parents or anyone with experience about the schools in Canmore—especially in terms of support for special needs kids.
Are there any schools that are particularly accommodating? How is the overall experience for families with neurodiverse children? Also, if there are any local support groups or resources, I’d really appreciate any recommendations!
Thanks in advance for any insights!
Hello Canmore friends, I am in the interview process for some permanent jobs in Banff and Canmore and my dream of moving may become a reality this year. I am genuinely very excited but one fear keeps turning round and round in my mind. What if the mountains make me lonely?
Touristy locations tend to have a transient population. How to seek out connections with people who stay year round?
Although I have older friends and get along with all age groups, I want to form relationships with folks who are relatively younger like myself. The thing is, I dislike party culture, drinking and loud noises of any kind. Do you have activities that also attract friends my age (20s) that stay year round?
What are some local gems, hangout spots etc? I feel like this will take me time to learn but I'd love to get a head start as Canmore slowly begins to feel like home.
Thank you kind residents, I look forward to contributing to your beautiful town soon.
We're flying to Calgary from TN next month with 2 children. We wanted to split our stay 4 days in Jasper and 3 in Canmore, but just saw the airport is about 4 hours from Jasper... I guess it makes more sense to just stay in Canmore the entire stay, but my question is, how possible is it to see all of the beautiful lakes? We'd love to see Lake Louise, Moraine, and Peyto Lake for sure. Or would Banff be our best bet? Haha thanks if you take the time to read and respond!
Planning on a solo trip to Canmore/Banff and looking to stay at a hostel for the first time ever.
What are people’s experience sleeping in the same room as random strangers?
What could I expect staying in these types of accommodation (specifically the party hostel location)?
Hi all,
I’ve been staying in Banff (Tunnel Mtn) for the past week, but there’s quite a few places in Canmore I want to check out and don’t want to keep driving back and forth. Does anyone know any spots near town for van camping? I couldn’t find any open campgrounds in Canmore. I’m fine with no services and am fully self contained - does the Nordic center allow overnight parking? Could not find any info on their website. Any info appreciated
Hi! We are looking at getting married summer/ early fall 2026 in Banff or Canmore and was curious if anyone has feedback on best venues for 180-220 people. We don't love places that are too "ski town log cabin" (I.e. carved bears, moose head on the wall, etc.) and we also don't really like the fancy vibes of Fairmont, but the views from the balcony there are gorgeous.
- Does anyone have recommendations for which venues we should consider?
- Does anyone have experience with the Malcolm Hotel in Canmore? It looks like they might have some strict rules (I can't tell if bands are allowed? Wanted to make sure I'm understanding correctly though)
Thanks and looking forward to input :)
I’m moving back into a Palliser Lane property in the spring and I’m just wondering where we are up to with the development happening there? Has work there started? Do we know when it will start if it hasn’t already? Is the dog park being removed?
I’m planning a solo trip to Canmore/banff (staying in Canmore) from roughly around March 7th to 17th this year and would really appreciate any advice or tips from locals or those familiar with the area. Here are a few questions I have so far:
1. Getting there without a car: I won’t have a car, so I’m planning to take public transport. How easy is it to catch a bus or coach from Calgary to Banff/Canmore with a medium/large suitcase?
2. Getting around town: Since there’s no Uber or Lyft, how reliable and extensive are the local buses? Where do they go, and are taxis an option if needed? Will I need to carry cash for buses or other public transport?
3. Exploring on foot: I know it’ll still be cold in March, but I’d love to explore and take in the views. How common is it to go on walks or hikes at this time of year? Are trails typically icy, and would I need any special gear?
4. Altitude adjustment: Since I’m coming from a lower altitude, I’m wondering if I might notice a difference in breathing. Is it worth buying oxygen cans as a precaution, or is that unnecessary for a short trip?
5. Day trips or excursions: Are there any good trips or must-see places near Banff and Canmore that I could visit in March, even without a car? I'll be taking my camera to take as many photos as possible so any spot recommendations would be great too.
Thanks so much in advance for your help! I’m really excited for this trip and can’t wait to experience the Rockies.
My car is starting to really dislike the cold. Any suggestions for covered parking in town overnight?
Hi all, I am getting married in Canmore in the fall and looking for a makeup artist. I am asian and have monolids and this is something I've noticed a lot of makeup artists struggle with. Does anyone have any recommendations of a makeup artist that can accentuate my monolids or even turn them into double lids with lashes?
A lot of overcast days in the Canadian Rockies lately. Nonetheless, this was still an enjoyable hike even with the -19°C morning.
What's a good special or place for Monday Lunch in Canmore
Chatted with 2 lovely gals on the TP chair yesterday morning … one was ebony from Perth and a Victoria from Britain ! Wish I got more info but all 3 of us seemed to have similar travel plans and would love to find one or both of these gals!
Can we all agree that this thrift store has gone out of hand. The prices are ridiculous for second hand items such as clothing and furniture.
Where is a good place to park for free when coming to see the New Year’s Eve fireworks?
Hello, I’m a Contractor specializing in residential renovations, custom cabinets and finishing carpentry. I was just looking for some feedback on the demand for such services in Canmore and the bow valley.
From a contractor and homeowner standpoint is there any difficulty finding good people/businesses to hire ?
Thanks for your feedback and time. Happy new year!!
Hi! I am moving to Canmore for the spring, and am trying to decide which type of chill service job I should look for when I'm there.
Ideally looking for something fun and flexible where I can make lots of money in tips. I have serving and bartending experience. Should I be aiming for high-end places? Or lower end places with lots of turnover?
Appreciate any insight you can provide! I haven't spent much time there before and am unfamiliar with the vibe/work situation. Thanks so much in advance!
Out with the fam this week, planning to ski Nakiska largely. Not much snow at all on Camore - any different up in the mountains?
Happy holidays all,
Tourist here in for a visit. Wondering if there's any bars that would reliably show NFL games.
Can anyone share the current road conditions in Canmore? I have a road bike with 35mm studded tires and planning to ride in Canmore today. Are the roads generally clean, and does the City of Canmore maintain and clear the bike trails?
Edit : Parked at Eelevation Place - 4 Hours free parking
Biked from Elevation Place to Benchlands Trail, then continued to Bow Trail. The route has dedicated bike trails throughout, offering stunning views of the Three Sisters mountains, especially from the walkway near the roundabout at Benchlands Trail and Elk Run Boulevard.
Hello, I was wondering if any businesses in town sold tickets to the Eagles games? Or are they just online? In Revelstoke, you could get tickets to the game from various places in town. I’m wondering about the game during Hockey Day in Canada in particular as it appears to be sold out online. Planning a trip that weekend and trying to figure out if this is a lost cause. Thanks!
I’m new to Canmore and am arriving late on Christmas Eve. Are there any kind of restaurants open on the Dec 25th? I’m guessing at a bare minimum gas stations will be open so I won’t starve but better food would be nice.
Edit: I see a post now from earlier today with a similar question.. looks like most hotels will have a dinner going on. I am interested in the Christmas buffet and Table Food+Drink, but there’s a few other options
I shop mostly at Safeway because I like their layout and they carry products I like but could I save more at Save On Food?
