Dungeons & Dragons Group Looking for Players

I am looking to get a Dungeons and Dragons 5th Edition 2024 group going in South Airdrie (Windsong). Been having trouble with scheduling my old players so I am hoping to find some people here to join in.

As of now there are 2-3 spots available but if there is enough interest I may branch out into a second group.

There is no experience necessary but a willingness to learn the rules and know your character is a must. We will have rule books available at the table and I provide access to PDFs as well.

I welcome all people at my table and aim to create a comfortable place to gather.

    A bit about me:

I (37/m) have been interested in D&D since middle school when I first played, had the books growing up and read them over and over but never got to play all that much. Now I have been a DM since 2018 and would love to get a regular group going again. I also enjoy doing a lot of cooking, for me, mixing tabletop gaming and good food is the perfect combo.

    Details:

We will be playing at my place, ideally Sunday evening for roughly 3-4 hours sessions. (Open to meeting potential players in person first to make you feel more safe/comfortable with the whole internet strangers thing.)

Once a month is the goal but if we can squeeze in an extra session here or there that is great.

Exact schedule will be worked out in a group chat like Discord or Whatsapp once enough people are interested.

I find it easier to maximize the amount of time spent playing by providing food and drinks, so the way I have always run my groups is everyone puts in $15 per session to cover 3-4 hours of entertainment, a selection of various beverages/snacks and usually a nice home cooked meal but we have been known to order in. (A great deal compared to a lot of other activities out there in my opinion.) Will accommodate food allergies, vegetarian, etc...

If you are interested, message me so we can chat or if you have any questions and if there is enough interest I will invite some people to a group chat of some sort to finalize availability and scheduling. Hope to see some of you at my table soon.

How do you prevent ice buildup here in Airdrie

Been three years since I’ve started to live in Airdrie and the ice buildup on my windows is terrible, especially in the master bedroom cause even now in -10 degree weather ice builds up. Does anyone have any recommendations for product that could prevent it for this coming winter, insulation film, tape?

Retail associates: Be nice to them!

I work retail here in Airdrie, and frankly, I’m really disappointed that I feel I need to say this.

My coworker has high-functioning autism and they are wonderful. Yes, they react differently when they’re stressed.

Yes, they may have a bit of an edge to them. Yes, they won’t make eye contact with you. Yes, they over-exaggerate when they’re feeling heavy emotions.

Seriously though, it’s so frustrating having customers come up to me, telling me that they’re, “not a good worker,” because of them not realizing when they’re “wrong.” Reflect on the situation, realize that (maybe) it’s YOU that’s making the situation worse on them (high-functioning), and treat them like a human being.

I’m extremely disappointed. Treat people how YOU want to be treated, especially retail workers during the Black Friday weekend no matter their circumstances.

This is a topic that desperately needs to be talked about.

    Best place to watch MNF

Newer to the area. Friend will be in town and we would like to catch Monday Night Football tomorrow. I know there’s a Canadian Brewhouse, but I’d prefer something local if possible? TIA

Should I switch from Enmax to "Airdrie Energy"?

    https://preview.redd.it/uhtd1su6vp3e1.png?width=2218&format=png&auto=webp&s=38ed7c74eb031d333f8e4ae03daedb3191e26d60

I saw this electricity rate plan from Airdrie Energy, their Admin Fee is cheaper than Enmax as well.

    What do you think?

    8th Street Traffic Signals

Is it just me or are there more people who think that the camera managed red lights on 8th street are not efficient?

My daily commute is from 8th street south (Hillcrest) to all the way up north (1st Avenue), back and forth, 3 times a day, and it involves 12 traffic signals and on average, I find 7-8 red signals each time.

My observation is that the camera managed signal stops the traffic on 8th street if it senses even a single car that just came out of a residential street and waiting to turn on 8th. This is what I call inefficient - to stop the running traffic on a major street to allow one or two cars to turn and not have them wait for some seconds.

I moved here from Saskatoon few months ago and my commute there involved a similar kind of road (real coincidence that it was also a 8th street). Now I don't know if the signals there were time or camera managed but they used to work in such a way that most of them will go red in succession and same goes for the green (you can actually see them all turning red/green together for a good distance). So if one has to stop at a red, chances are they will get all subsequent signals green for a good amount of distance. It is way more peaceful to wait on one signal for 30-60 seconds than to applying brakes on almost all of them.

Now I don't mean to offend anyone here by stating what I feel. I absolutely love the city and enjoying my time here with my family.

Viable alternative to home security subscription?

Just what the title says. We’re currently paying a company from the states for remote home security and I want to get off that. Thinking of nest or something (not Telus).

    Suggestions welcome, thanks

Crossed Red light at veterans Blvd near Canadian tire.

This is first time with me, the lights became amber and I started braking cautiously but car didn’t stopped and kept on dragging crossing the intersection at red light while the truck taking turn waited ( thanks to him). Question: Am I expecting a traffic violation ticket ?

    Poly B to Pex Replacement

Is there anybody in Airdrie having to replace in Poly B?

My home is on Woodside, built on 1997, lived there since 2011, no leaks. I am okay with replacing the poly b in the house but my main has poly b and that has me concerned.

'It's hard on volunteers': Airdrie Festival of Lights tries not to let theft dim spirit - DiscoverAirdrie.com

The Airdrie Festival of Lights Society appears to have been the victim of theft earlier this week.

Michelle Pirzek, Director of the Airdrie Festival of Lights Society, the non-profit responsible for putting on Western Canada's largest free, outdoor walk-through Christmas light display, said volunteers had been setting up in Nose Creek Park since the past weekend.

"We have two crews, and they were on site yesterday, and we started setting up our tent in the park; and then today, when one of our team members got there, he arrived a little later than everyone, as he had to take his son to school" she explained.

The individual noticed one of the trailers was open, assuming someone else had opened it earlier.

"Later on in the afternoon, they noticed that one of our flood lights—we have flood lights that we attach to our trailers; they're on 20-foot poles... And then we stand them up and bolt them to our buildings—one of the floodlights had been taken off." https://discoverairdrie.com/articles/its-hard-on-volunteers-airdrie-festival-of-lights-tries-not-to-left-theft-dim-spirit-

    Building with Genesis

We got a really nice lot in Bayside with Genesis and have read alot of not so pleasant reviews building with Genesis. Has anyone here had a good experience and willing to share? If you had an unpleasant experience, what would you advice we look out for going into this? Also, how long did your build take with them?

    Thank you!
