Are there any native HomeKit pool temperature monitoring solutions? The easiest I could find was a yolink water temperature sensor you can attach to the skimmer box but it’s not HomeKit compatible.
Any ideas?
maybe i’m being a bit picky but i’m looking for a doorbell that
is homekit compatible (i am okay using scrypted or homebridge if needed)
local recording or HKSV compatible. i want to be able to view a history of videos
works with my existing door chime
bonus if it uses the same screw holes as the skybell it is replacing so i don’t have to drill any more holes
i was going to buy the aquara g4 but it isn’t compatible with my current door chime.
i was also looking into the logitech but i live in florida and sometimes the door gets direct sunlight. i read some overheating problems
Having a home built out of town and just got a look at the main water shutoff valve. Any thoughts on if a DIY automated shutoff attachment could be installed?
Looks a bit much for a “Bulldog” type attachment but I can’t be sure. It’s also located outdoors. I’d really like to avoid going to an in-line solution (Moan Flo, etc) because the location I’m building in is know for it’s “vigorous“ city inspection program, aka they are real hard asses and take forever to do the site inspection.
I would welcome anyone’s experience or insights. Any measurements I should be taking on the current setup that will help decide if it’s a go/no go?
Thanks folks!
My old mesh Orbi WiFi setup stopped working
I bought a new mesh Orbi WiFi system
My WiFi is now working so I’m happy with that
The problem is I have been unable to add my HomeKit accessories back into my home
I tried removing them but when I click “add accessory” from within HomeKit nothing happens
I also tried scanning the QR code on a few items, I click the HomeKit link, Home app opens but just to the app and no option to add new accessory
Am I missing something?
Do I need to start my home all over?
Is there a difference between how a native app (Arlo) processes motion sensors and Home?
That is, I have my Arlo cameras exposed to Homekit. I've adjusted the sensitivity in the Arlo app so that the camera doesn't record (trigger) except for people and right up close to the camera.
But, Homekit is constantly notifying me (iPhone) that motion was detected on my front lawn via the Arlo camera. Whereas, the camera isn't recording or notifying me via the Arlo native app simultaneously.
Otherwise, this Arlo is working fine....in the Arlo app.
The only thing I can figure is, that the Homekit App detects ANY motion via the Arlo Camera view, whereas the Arlo app is in fact, using my person detection and sensitivity settings.
Is there a difference between what Homekit sees as a device trigger and what Arlo processes via their server for motion sensing?
Ple it finally happened
3 hours into looking and jacking with the Home app. I’m trying to drop my Amazon Alexa but can’t find a setting that will send my iPhone a notification when my dog barks, like the Alexa can. If it can’t then there’s no point in me going further and will just use it as a speaker. If it can then I can start getting Apple compatible other devices.
I’ve even asked “Siri, can you notify me when my dog barks?” The reply is: I don’t have an answer for that, is there something else I can help you with.
I have Aqara door sensors, but have had mixed results with their vibration sensors. Is there any other HomeKit compatible product on the market (besides setting up a camera) that can alert me if someone is trying to push or kick my front door?
This is a new one for me. Everything (except my Switchbot curtain devices) are showing as non-responsive in the Home app on my phone, 2 computers and my iPad - all currently up to date software wise. HomePods show Version 18.0 as well. Switchbot was originally showing non responsive until I accessed them through the Switchbot app to open my curtains this morning. BUT, I'm able to control everything via my 2 HomePod Originals, and 2 HomePod minis. I also have a couple of the Lutron dimmer buttons that control my Hue lights - those are working.
I have so many different brands of devices - Hue, Nano, Lutron, Switchbot, YeeLight August, Kwikset and probably some I don't remember. I also have non- native devices running through Home Assistant and Homebridge. They all show offline as well, even though their servers are up and running on my Synology NAS.
Troubleshooting -
Restarted my router. In the past this has fixed when nothing was responsive via app and HomePods.
Restarted all of my HomePods individually, and then my AppleTV, to see if it was a hub issue.
Restarted my phone and iPads, rebooted computers.
My HK cameras indicate that they went offline at 2:33 am, but I'm still able to access and get notices through their native app (Eufy, I knew I forgot one)
Any ideas? I would appreciate the help!
I never updated the architecture and was looking to so at this time, but it shows a couple of family members needing updates.
Their phones are up to date but they do have some old iPads and old Apple Watches that are on older iOS. Is this why they are showing issues? No need to have them control the devices via the iPads or watches.
TIA.
Hello, I want a typical motion sensor = turn lights on for x minutes setup. This works great and responds quickly using the built in editor.
However, if I dim the lights manually, I don’t want the motion sensor to set them back to full brightness. So I created a new automation that’s the same as the last one, except I converted to shortcut and added a simple ‘If’ statement. IF lights are off, then SET lights to 100%.
It works exactly like I’d expect, except there’s a 2-3 second delay before motion is detected and the lights turning on. Is this common, or a way to fix this? Alternatives?
It seems that the Mill app and its series of generation 3 panel heaters was recently updated with Matter support.
Has anyone had a chance to try it yet and its integration with HomeKit?
Hello, i have a question perhaps someone can answer :
I added multiple Livolo Zigbee switches into Home Assistant via Zigbee2Mqtt and then added them to Homekit from HA. They worked fine but then all of a sudden they stopped working and became unresponsive . This happened after my electricity went on and off a few days ago.
In HA they work just fine with no issues but in Homekit this is what i see ( attached pic)
I restarted my router, my HA, my phone, added them again, added only the switches and nothing else. They barely seemed to work for 30secs and then unresponsive again.
Any ideas on how can i fix this?
But it can open it just fine. Meross app can close my garage door without issue. When I try to close it through the home app, however, it gets to the bottom and then reopens. Has anyone seen that?
I'm one of the unlucky users that still does not have the "Automatic Selection" toggle in my Home app despite being on iOS 18.0.1.
Some users have mentioned a mass update/reboot of all devices, which did not work for me. The other suggestion I've seen to invoke this hub selection feature is to remove hubs from the home and re-add them; this brings me to my question:
Will I be able to re-add the hubs if they are not physically located in my home and are not connected to my home network???
I've been told (quite adamantly) in the past that this is not possible, however, my first-hand experience says otherwise. Both my daughters attend college out-of-state, and when they use their Apple TVs while at school my homekit absolutely refuses to use ANY other devices as its primary hub. As a result, HomeKit is only available to me when my daughters (and their Apple TVs) are home for breaks. As soon as either of them power up their ATV at school, their device becomes the primary hub and every single accessory in my home goes into "no response" status until they return.
I would absolutely love the ability to designate a hub, or at least exclude specific devices for being a hub as homekit is absolutely useless to me otherwise.
I am in the process of building a new home and will be moving in at the end of January. My plan is to have a full HomeKit home, but my problem is, I am a scene, automation and shortcut virgin. I know, it’s pretty sad. I have a few SmartThings in my current home, but not enough to really do anything with. My question,,, is there a sub, or website where people like me can go for support in creating scenes and automations? My plan includes, light and fan switches, plugs, shades, HomePods, motion sensors and probably a few other things. Is there help for me, or will it be more a trial and error thing for me until I figure it out.
Thanks
This is with the Meross presence sensor that came out recently. In general, it has been great, very responsive, and I like what you could do with automations with it.
However, about once a week, vanishes from HomeKit and the automations I have set up disappear along with it. It still shows up as responsive in the Meross app, and if I unplug it and plug it back in nothing changes and HomeKit shows the light sensor is still available, but the presence sensor that I use for automations is gone a nd a couple hours later it’s back and I can set up my automations again.
Has anyone else dealt with this? I am running the latest version of iOS on everything and I’ve tried googling for it but have come up with nothing.
Hi everyone, I really like HomeKit and I have fun creating more or less complex automations with shortcuts involving if statements, variables etc.
I'm curios to know: how do you test your automations?
Sometimes the automation does not work as expected, but it's very hard to understand for example why an accessory turns on and off immediately. Playing the shortcut does not give you a precise idea of what's happening, because it runs so fast you can't figure out what's going on.
Furthermore, I have some automations with long waiting times, how do I know if the automation is running? How do I know if editing the shortcut inside the automation would make it stop? How can I stop a just triggered automation and start over?
Thanks a lot
My kids have their own iCloud accounts and iPads, but no phones. So they can’t ask a HomePod mini to call us when we are not home. But they can ask it to make an FT Audio call. When they do that, Siri on the HomePod acknowledges it, and then starts the FT Audio call from their iPad. But the call is on their iPad, and the HomePod has no audio. Any known fixes to this?
For those that segment their IoT (HomeKit) devices on a separate network from the rest of the home devices, do you place your AppleTV (Home Hub)? Right now I have it on my internal network (non-IoT), but wonder if I should put it on the IoT network and leave iPads and iPhone on the internal network?
Hello! I’m new to HomeKit and wanted to upgrade the lighting situation in my home with some new smart lightbulbs. I did some research and it seemed like Nanoleaf was a safe bet, especially because it’s sold as a HomeKit accessory on the Apple storefront itself. So I purchased 9 Nanoleaf bulbs.
I installed 3 this afternoon and added them to my HomeKit. They connected alright, although it did take longer than I expected it to. Now, I’m finding that when I open the app, it’s usually “Updating…” “Connecting…” or “No Response”. I should mention that I also have a TV strip light from Meross and it has always worked perfectly, no connection issues, UNTIL I installed the Nanoleaf bulbs. Now the strip light has the same issues. And when I ask Siri to turn off any light, she says “The whatever light is taking awhile to respond” and the command never ends up working.
Is this common for Nanoleaf lights? I purchased them specifically because I didn’t want to have to buy a Matter device. What am I doing wrong here?
If I set up this lock in HomeKit would I miss any features that Android uses? I use an iPhone and my girlfriend uses android
I ordered a Sonoff ifan 04 l to load homekit firmware on it, but idk what to do to get it done, i have the cables and a esp32 to use as FTDI. Maybe you know how to do it, tell me please, or if you know a tutorial please share it Thanks!
Ever since the worst thing to happen to the smart home, matter I’ve had nothing but issues with Phillips Hue. Every couple months my (some/all) devices completely disappear from HomeKit requiring that I remove my hue bridge, fad around for a few days to get it to reconnect then have to go through the laborious process that is recreating scenes, setting the rooms, etc what am I doing wrong?
I could link everything through Hubitat, through HomeBridge but I believe lighting is a core component that NEEDS to just work; that option is iffy at best. And thus why I’ve invested deeply into Hue, because every other option is trash; switches and all starting since atleast 2017, slowly building out. Besides I’m an asshole and don’t think I should have to link my hue bridge, to Hubitat to link that to HomeBridge just to link that with HomeKit when it natively should and has the past 6years+ supported HomeKit.
Yes the bridge is up to date, I have HomeKit “home hubs”, I’ve done a soft reset because I’m not willing to do a full and have to reconnect ~50 hue devices, power cycling does not reappear devices, new Ethernet cable to the bridge does nothing, router reset, modem reset, unplug/turn off all Apple devices at once, all do nothing. I’ve had more issues with my Hue System the past months than I have ever had my about 7 years with it. Please don’t tell me “Phillips” has tossed it completely in the dirt. There is nothing that can or has matched the reliability of hue (he says) Anyone got anything?
Hi everyone,
I have a Philips Hue Bridge and a Philips Gradient Wall Strip light, along with a Govee TV backlight (3 Lite) and a Govee LED strip that works with DreamView technology. I also have an Amazon Echo Spot.
I’d like to know if there’s a way to control all of these lights together using my iPhone or the Apple Home app. Specifically:
Thanks for your help!
Would you recommend going with Adobe or Ecobee for the best HomeKit security system? I also would integrate thermostats as well.
