Ive seen videos where one guy explains ginunting has an effortless forward movement and automatically wants to come back to you.
Whereas the talibung is weighted as the center that it's feel weightless when in motion.
What are the differences between the ginunting and talibung?
Edit: There is dahong palay as well. So there are three id like to know the difference between.
I don't want to start a flamewar or anything, but does anyone have any favorite music for solo training? I def feel like I don't want to use anything that I listen to while running, for example.
Thanks so much
Joe

I am talking about the Hubud hand drill where you defend against a punch using 3 parries.
The first one is with a single parry then counter.
The second one is 3 parries then a counter.
I was wondering why the third parry is necessary for the latter. Isn't it more beneficial to just attack after the second parry?

Disclaimer: A couple of years ago, I posted here about some shoddy looking sticks I got from Traditional Filipino Weapons (a store run by Ron Kosakowski). I understand there are some controversies associated with him, but this does not concern those topics. This is strictly a public apology regarding a purchase that I may have disparaged on this subreddit.
As I was saying, a while back I posted here asking if the sticks were any good because they were uneven, oily, didn't have the conventional striping, etc. I asked him about it, and while he seemed defensive about me calling out the quality of these Kali sticks, he was a good sport and let me get a replacement. These were more even, but still looked like knitted, rough sticks like they were chopped from a pile of rattan. He swore by them saying that the Indonesian rattan may not look like much, but it was durable. I rolled my eyes and just accepted that the product was a flop.
Anyways, fast forward and a month ago I was extremely stressed, compounded with some self-loathing and anger at some recent happenings that for personal reasons I'm not saying. I also broke one of my padded sparring sticks accidentally, and I didn't have a dummy or object that I was able to freely strike. I looked at these sticks I bought from TFW and decided if there was a use for the "ugly sticks", at the very least I could abuse them without caring what happens since they were otherwise just going to sit in storage. I knew that whatever I was striking, either it, the sticks, or my hands/arms were going to be breaking. I went off to an area most people don't visit in a park, found a tree, and started doing flows, drills, and sometimes just full strength, barely controlled swings. The tree bark was getting chipped, the wood underneath was getting small dents, and my hands were getting blood blisters and I even aggravated my pulled shoulder despite doing some physical therapy several months ago, but the sticks didn't even have any visible nicks or scratches on them.
I want to apologize and I hope that whatever impression I gave others here on the quality of this particular product. I wanted to make sure people know that the sticks may not be the most conventional and may not be your go-tos for common uses in the art, but as far as the pair I got, they are extremely durable.
Edit: I know that it isn't considerate to harm something like a tree, and I regret the impact of my choice. I was at a bit of a loss for alternatives, as just about everything else I thought of or drove around to look at was private property or not usable. I'm planning on investing in something safe to strike, but I had never felt this distressed in my entire 30+ years of life and I was becoming more miserable by the second while in my apartment. I was choked up and needed a rare, healthy release.
Anting Anting, Agimat, Amulets or whatever you wanna call it. They are charms that are from the Philippines that filipino swordsmen believed in help enhancing their skills and kept them safe during war and duels.
What is your opinion on this and does anyone here believe in them?
Greetings,
Can anyone recommend where I can get training Ginuntings (metal, blunt blade) that are close in design and weight to the real thing? (preferably with scabbarb) Thanks in advance
Anyone here in Oakland? I’m just doing this for fun. Ideally love to learn Balintawak again but really just looking for some homies to learn from and fuck around. I love the one on one teaching process cause it felt like a game training reactions. Also love the lack of uniform as well honestly.
If anyone interested hmu 🤙
Also haven’t flipped Bali song in years but be fun to meet some flippers and get back into it. I have to find it first tho 💀
Dear fellow practitioners, I have the impression that Doce Pares is very heavily influenced by San Miguel Eskrima, but can you shed light about the details? I understand that Momoy Canete was the founder of San Miguel Eskrima, and many of his teachings are resembling in many moves, even in some drills too. I dare to raise the question, how did San Miguel evolved into Doce Pares? What is the difference between San Miguel, Cacoy Doce Pares and then the Doce Pares Multistyle? Seems like the direct line of evolution to me... I wonder why do they have different numbering systems then? I know the Canete family is basically behind them, I just don't know enough of the history through generations and I'm keen to learn more about those background bits and pieces.
Anything about your life as a filipino martial artist when going to school/work or the gym, hobbies etc
Hi! So i want to learn the knife and self defence of the filipino martial art. Is there an organisation where all the legit schools are listed? I’m based in Belgium btw
I just met with one of the instructors last night, gonna start coming in as soon as I have the cash.
Best

How long does it take to get good at FMA practicing 3-5 hours per week?
I'm mainly a PTK practitioner (still a beginner, both my primary teachers are with the Dog Brothers as well) but recently I've found Kalis Ilustrisimo very interesting. I've found Coach Arnold Narzo's YouTube channel very helpful, especially his videos for beginners where he discusses Redonda, Real, Anggulo, Aldabis, and Planchada.
However, there are cuts I've seen such as the Bagsak and Arko which I haven't seen Coach Narzo explain yet. To my untrained eyes the Bagsak looks like an Anggulo but not followed through, and the Arko looks like a Redonda. I speak Tagalog so I know the meanings of the terms but it doesn't clear up my confusion.
I'd be very grateful if anyone here (especially any KI practicioners) could explain to me the difference!
For those who train some form of FMA as their main style why did you choose it over other forms of martial arts?

This set up is awesome for the thrust. Sometimes it catches people even when they know it's coming

Hi! As the name suggests, this post is about metal core padded sticks which I may or may have not handled around 10 to 11 years ago. See, I distinctly remember having handled one and even asking my instructor why the padded stick is bent. She mentioned it's the core inside, being made of metal. Now, I might be hallucinating but I can only find plastic or rattan cored padded sticks. Is this a conspiracy or just another case of me remembering the wrong thing?
Please help. I'm looking to purchase said metal core padded sticks.
