Poi juggling

I've recently been spending more time with juggling poi rather than just spinning.

I'm very comfortable with the pendulum cascade and wallplane cascade. Recently started doing some behind the head spins on the first beat of the hand I just caught with w the wallplanes, if I worded that coherently.

Can hit some reverse beat cascades, but still working on running that cleanly.

Also, started working on no beat cascades last week and have been seeing some progress, but probably have a lil while before I'm running it.

Fellow poi jugglers, I have a few questions for you.

I'm currently juggling contact poi with 10.6 mm hybrid tethers.

  1. How important do you find it/how big of a difference does it make to juggle with static tethers? Big enough difference to warrant spending the money for 3 new poi?

  2. Any guidance on where to go from here based on the description of my current skill level?

  3. do you have any favorite teachers? Do they have a patreon? Bow juggler is my go to, ofc, but just curious.

Thanks in advance!

Love my ball and club juggling, but poi shit just hits differently.

Looking for first fire poi suggestions - and thank you

I'm hoping to find something for sale in the US, thats at or under $100, and if possible not cathedral heads, but I assume that's what my choices will be. I have other non poi props from dark monk and trick concepts. IDK if somone on here makes them personally or if youd like to suggest where to look beyond Google it, maybe someone knows a hidden gem or something. Thanks for your help. Taking my LED set to their first campout this weekend. Looking to pick a set up before Freezerburn in January.

thank you everyone that makes tutorial videos. every 10 of you theres one person there that can break it down the way i can understand it. I have alegitimate learning diability and some physical handicaps related, so I have to learn a way i can not how anyone decides to show me. Everyone posting so many tutorials really opens this new prop up for me. Thanks for all yall do.

Waterproof Poi

Winter is coming to the PNW ....and with it a fine amount of rain. I am new to spinning and my indoor options are limited. Any recommendations for LED poi with sealed/waterproof casings? I'd prefer orb poi but am open to any shape so long as they can keep the rain out and my practice consistent.

2 month progress video

Stormy night at the beach 🌊⛈️ I was fighting 30 mph wind gusts and my poi kept getting tangled lol. I think I finally (kinda almost) learned antispin flowers!!! I just started spinning 2 months ago, and I've been judging myself kinda harshly bc I wanna look as good as everyone else that posts on here. I'm still learning how to piece tricks together so they look cohesive, but I'm having so much fun :) If you're reading this, I hope you have a great day 💕

Meteor/gunslinger discord

Would anyone be interested in a discord group for learning gunslingers and/or meteor spinning? There aren’t many tutorials online for different patterns for gunslingers aside from the basics. I’ve managed to figure out some hybrids on my own and some new moves by watching other spinners on instagram or just messing around. I think it would be good to get a group of people who are learning to share videos of themselves for advice and sharing new things.

If anyone’s interested let me know and I’ll set it up!

Happy Halloween!

After 20+ years of failing at pumpkin carving and growing to kinda dislike doing it... I have my first successful pumpkin!!!

Well worth continuing to try.

What knobs do you prefer?

I'm thinking about buying this sock poi, but I'm having trouble figuring out which knobs style to get. There are so many choices!

  1. What type of knobs do you prefer and why? How do the different weights affect your spinning?

  2. Does anyone have a video link or other resources where I can learn about the different types of knobs and their benefits? I couldn't find any helpful videos on YT, only reviews of poi knobs.

  3. Are knobs only for contact poi? I'm a beginner and I'm still learning the fundamentals.

  4. Any knobs recommendations or beginners and people with small hands?

Thanks for looking!

Ethics of taking a gig as a non professional?

Hi all! So I just moved to a new city and I like to take out my pixel poi and spin at clubs sometimes. Last night a DJ approached me while I was spinning and asked me to spin for him at a club in the future in lieue of a gogo dancer role.

I don't know anyone in the local community yet, so I have no one to refer him to. I'm also not sure what the budget for this is, and it seemed from our convo that he had little to no idea what poi was.

I make decent income and don't need the money. If I take this gig would it be unethical, when I could find someone who spins poi professionally and refer them? I also don't have social media, so is there a way to vet and refer another performer who is more experienced and actually could use the income?

Honestly I want to do this, I love spinning and I think it's cool to get paid for my hobbies. But I don't want to deprive someone who actually needs a gig of one. Am I overthinking this?
