🇮🇩 Lee Edmondson of Pencak Silat Australia will train with PSHT Pencak Silat (Persaudaraan Setia Hati Terate) in Praya, Lombok, Indonesia this Friday. Over 700 people will be in attendance, that will include a celebration of Pencak Silat brotherhood.
Not that I'm really inclined to pay anyone for online lessons except Mornie, but I just stumbled across him.
Thoughts?
Would I need to learn the language? Do they only teach Muslims?
Thanks so much
Joe
I'm in north NJ, a short public transit ride from Manhattan. Are there any good dedicated schools around? Of course I saw the online courses, but I always prefer in person.
Thanks so much
Joe
A little Back Story .so I just joined a silat class in kuantan, pahang (pusaka gayong pahang).
It has been quite a while since I have joined the class, about two months in at first it was really exciting, because I joined it with my friend.
And then we got chosen by our coach to play Silat Pulut for MMSD to represent our school (smk paya besar), at first ut was a very cool, until my partner (friend) got in a accident.
After his accident, he decided to drop out from the class. At first I was worried about who might be my Pulut-partner. Then I got a message while in the MMSD class saying that I will be the representative for Silat-Solo-creative.
I was really worried when I heard that I'll be doing silat solo creative, not because the fact that I have to remember all the hard "Buah" or "jurus", but because I have to use "Tari" for most of the three minutes.
So, please help me. I don't know how to create silat tari, all I know is that there is no right or wrong, but I'm really afraid that I might making Tari to the point whwere I just looked like a drunk idiot.
So, for the solo creative fellow that has won atleast one or have been in a tournament, please tell me how can I make beautiful silat tari....
Hi!
Does anybody know any schools in Kuala Lumpur that would be amicable towards having a novice come practice for a short while? Having a trip there for 2 weeks and I would like to pick up some techniques/drills if possible.
Hi, I’m already a brown belt and have been practicing in my old school for over 6 years in chimande I’m just looking for a school/instructor that will let me grade for my black belt. As a new student, I am also willing to travel to or do an online grading.
Any reputable certificate from a reputable guru/instructor that will provide proof I’m a pencak silat chimande black belt will do tbh.
Basically what the title says. Silat looks like an interesting martial art, but there aren't any gyms no instructors for it close to me, so I'd like to know if there are some free online courses, or if Youtube videos can help and if yes which channels you would recommend me. I have a bit of experience with Wing Chun, about 4 months but I'm not a complete newbie about martial arts.
Anyone able to tell me where I could order Silat uniforms in the States? Thanks much.
I would like to begin to train silat, but I don't have any instructors around me. I know personal instruction is preferrable, but i dont have any options. So, I figured I would give online training a try. Also, I will be getting a hip arthroscopy for a hip impingement next month, so i figured it would be cool to have something to train on my own time to get me moving and help with rehab when time permits. I have lots of experience in bjj, muay thai and krav maga, so I'm not a beginner in martial arts. I'm looking for something that is quick, effective and practical. I'm looking at Open Circle and PCKsilat online. Which one would you choose? Why? Is there another online resource that you would recommend?
I was watching a Maul Mornie video and he mentioned a very basic striking technique called something like bambukut. I was hoping for more information on this topic, including even the correct spelling of the word(s), as I would appreciate better access to solo drills that pertain directly to combat. Any help would be greatly appreciated.
Hello everyone! So, I've come across this school in my area that teaches Silat Cidepok. The only info I could find is on that same association's website and a mention on Wikipedia. Is there anybody who could tell me more info? Is it legit? Thank you!
I am once in a while in Indonesia and would like to purchase a solid Tepki/Trisula. In some stores for martial arts and on Tokopedia all of the items are made from Aluminium and are hollow inside.
Essentially I am looking for a Tepki/Trisula that could withstand light thrusts from a staff so a light sparring is possible without the training weapons being damaged.
Does one of you happen to know if and where there are trustworthy blacksmiths in Indonesia that are capable of forging a robust training weapon?
Thank you!
I am planning to go to Indonesia in the somewhat near future, and I would like to partake in some pencak silat while I'm there to learn some techniques and hopefully compliment my martial arts training in some way, as well as to immerse myself in Indonesian culture. I was told that Cimande and Sunda have the most overlap with MMA, which is why I narrowed it down to those two styles for my purposes. Do you know any good gyms that teach these styles? Thanks in advance!
Can someone who has a good broad understanding paint or spell ot a picture of what the pure combat Silat forms and names are? It would be great to distinguish what is competition non combat Silat from the real combat silat. There is no clear picture and everyone use the generic term rather than branching and teasing out the combat forms from the competition forms which which is more like Wushu for public show rather than combat effectiveness.
I’m 17 and I’m from the UK and I’ve seen some positive things about Silat online after recently discovering it and I’d like to learn so I figured I’d ask if you know there’s any places local that I could learn here.
Is there an official Perang blade shape perang that is used in Silat competititions?
What is is the preferred Perang shape for Silat competition or is it a case of "anything will do" There seems to be a huge variation of the style of perang used from Indonesia to Malaysia.
I am curious.
Howdy. Does anyone teach silat in SA?
I’ve done Filipino martial arts and would love to learn Silat. Does anyone know of trainers in London or elsewhere in the UK?
Sorry if this question has been asked numerous times before. I am new to the world of Silat/Pencak Silat. I took an interest in the martial art after watching The Raid series and watching Iko Uwais and Joe Taslim in some movies. It also interested me being that it is one of the most dangerous martial arts in the world. I have some small background in martial arts from practicing Tae Kwon Do and just a little bit of Muay Thai.
That being said I know it is an Indonesian art and I have this thing about most martial arts from other countries not being taught as efficiently as in their home country( a silly idea as I’m sure it is somewhat wrong), but alas I do not have the means or time to travel to every home country of a martial art and practice for years in said country.
Are there any good areas in America or classes online for teaching? Are there certain things I should know going in or once I start practicing? I know it is a martial art that needs a sparring partner as most do. Any things to avoid when beginning and learning or types of teachers to avoid? All information is helpful, thanks.
