Don't be a jerk! This sub's goal is to be a place of wrestling discussion and support. We want to grow the sport of wrestling! Telling beginners "you suck" or being rude to outsiders/those not familiar with wrestling will not accomplish that goal. Feel free to joke and have fun, but know where the line is. Don't be derogatory— everyone here is human. Repeat offenders of this rule will be subject to ban. No racist, misogynist, homophobic or otherwise offensive material will not be tolerated.
No politics. Avoid all political/religious discussion or threads unless it's directly related to wrestling - and keep it civil!
Memes restricted to weekdays ONLY (Monday-Friday, based on US days). Those posted on weekends are subject to removal. This rule is currently under review for tweaking to ensure discussion and wrestling news are prioritized.
This is not a medical forum. If you have something you are concerned about, please consult a medical professional. Medical discussion can happen in the Weekly Health Discussion Thread, including advice on weight management, injuries, and infections. Hi gentlemen, can someone explain to me what can happen if someone has double wrist control like Khabib mentions?
Thank you!
My season starts November 4th and my first match is December 4th. Since this is my first match I’m wondering if there’s a sort of skill-based match making. I don’t want to go into my first match up and my opponent some legendary undefeated champion, I’m exaggerating but you get the point. Do I have to worry about my opponent so skilled that I have a low chance of winning?
It was a very popular wrestling training video on youtube.
I remember I stumbled across this wrestling training video of this freestyle wrestling club training in a small area with a large wrestling mat on the ground. There were doing a lot of suplexes on a heavy bag or a mannequin and even each other. A lot of drills. Possibly somewhere in europe. I watched it when I was wrestling sometime 2014-2016. It was possibly one of those motivational training videos. Fast paced.
It was quite a popular video on youtube and I bet everyone who wrestles has watched it at-least once but I can't find it anymore. Does anyone remember it?
Longer arms are generally viewed as an advantage in striking based martial arts, especially boxing, due to providing more reach and leverage when you punch, but no one really talks about how arm length impacts wrestling.
Does it make no difference at all? Is generally better or worse to have long arms? Just to be clear, I'm not talking about height, just arm length.
They're crazy crazy good it is unreal

i'm doing wrestling as my first sport. i'm very unathletic and get winded while playing kickball, should i give up before or should i start playing?
Hi, I'm a sophomore in highschool (170 lbs, 5'6) starting wrestling for the first time as I figured it would be fun and a good way to get in shape but im extremely nervous for my first day of conditioning. Anything I should know before i start?
Im a first year, and im slowly learning everytning. But one thing i havent been really taught is weight cutting. Im usually 136-37 like yesterday, but when we do weigh ins at practice like today, i shoot up to 143-145. How can i manage that especially when theres hydration tests and i retain so much water? Also, what would happen if im under my weight for my weight class? (Doing 138 this year) Do i go on a slight deficit?
So im a 14 yr and im super confused, ive never been in a real match and im on my second practice. So i have a ton to work and my main problem is im supposedly 'cross dominant'. Like since im right handed i like to lead with my left foot, which i looked up is wrong. Should i get in the habit of leading with my right foot since im a right handed person? or should i stick with it? Does it give me a advantage since its uncommon? or is it a disadvantage to me? answers to all these questions would mean the world to me and help me immensely! thanks
I wrestled in my first year of college and didn't like the program or the coach so I called it quits and transferred to my local state school. I am getting my masters right now and am missing wrestling like crazy, would it be possible to pick wrestling back up if I did my PhD at a small d3 school?
Hey y’all, I’m wondering if anyone has some good insights into high double leg set ups. Not necessarily a blast double but a snatch double where you don’t go to your knees. GSP was very effective with this in MMA but set it up with strikes, are there any set ups that high level wrestlers use to set it up?
I recently pulled a muscle on my knee this week and was wondering what brace i should get?
So I recently had whooping cough like a few weeks ago and my cough is still bad but it does't happen often. I went to a open mat yesterday at during my warm up run I started to cough and I couldn't breathe for a few seconds. Any of you guys that had whooping cough and wrestling please give me tips on how I can do wrestling with it
Looking for some new wrestling shoes. I’ve recently had Nike tawas and I like the way they feel but I need something lighter. And what shoes should I not get? For every sport there’s a style. What is like the “kyries” of wrestling shoes?
A little more lighthearted than some other posts but I’m curious, what’s everyone’s favorite warm up songs?
Hi guys, i see lots of suggestions about good wrestlers on top and neutral, but none about bottom. What wrestlers would you guys suggest that are good on the bottom position i can watch tapes of?
Pondering trying out beach wrestling. Has anyone made this transition?
I’m a junior in high school and this is my third year wrestling. The past couple of years I have always been weaker than my opponents, but I worked to be stronger than them. I kind of have abandoned trying to be stronger and just want to know: is there an aspect I should work on to be able to beat them without being stronger??
I calculated the points per minute earned from every technique at worlds since Tokyo using UWW data ahead of tomorrow’s match. Taylor has clearly been the more prolific scorer this quad
I've really grown to enjoy Bulgarian wrestling, especially after Semen Novikov won gold at the Olympics. I see bits and pieces of their workouts on Instagram but I wanna know if anyone knows more specifically about Coach Farniev's training regiment? Like what is an average practice session like?
I have youth wrestlers even though both pieces of equipment are overpriced was interested in possibly purchasing one of them but don't know of any close to go look at so was wondering who has tried them and can give a review? Thanks
