Wedding Do’s and Dont’s for our wedding. Mainly for my family.

So, as our wedding is approaching, I am having severe anxiety about my family. Mostly, my sisters. Allllllll 3 of them! Each of them are older, each of them are mouthy, each of them are in competition with anyone that’s breathing. I am the youngest between the three of them and they try (TRY) to treat me as I am still the younger brother. Over the past year, I have found my tolerance for people has dissipated all because I escaped a severely narcissistic relationship. I vowed never again will I let someone hold me hostage to their bad behavior or treat me less than what I want. So...over the past year I have had to “snap” and or put my foot down with each of them. Turns out....I’m a bridezilla All because I chose to stand up to them. I said fine, I’ll be this bridezilla. Im a guy.....so another insult insinuating I am a batshit crazy woman. As I told my dad, I am just tired of being steam rolled over and biting my tongue. My dads response “good for you and I am proud of you. Now, the wedding......me and my partner have gone above and beyond with this wedding. We have booked a 4.5 star hotel/venue, open bar, DJ, dance floor, photobooth, lights/lasers! This will be my one and only time to get married as I am 38 yrs old. We did a social media invite for all the family, friends and only concern I have....is my family (sisters). I know them. They take bitch to a whole new level. I told one of my sisters how I wanted to have my parents renew their wedding vows and her response “why, they already renewed them 10 years ago and that’s dumb!” I’ve seen my other sister tell my partner “my cars newer and nicer!” My other sister lives on jealousy and it’s apparent that she believes she is the older therefor she has to be the best. They critique everything, they can not be happy for you and or you constantly hear them bitching. So, long story short.....I have it set in my head and in my heart that if they try in any way hijacking my wedding and try to ruin it, they will be kicked out. I chose to rent another venue for my parents in the same hotel for them to renew their vows. It’s because of them I know what a relationship should be and not be. Each of my sisters have been married more than twice. So, I want to cement this day with love and because of my parents, I want I wouldn’t be getting married. They deserve a day that shows and tell them how loved they are. These are the rules I posted to the FB invite Let Vendors do their jobs- That means they are not your servants and already have clear instructions on music, food, liquor, guest count, photography, videography and whose in charge.

Don’t encourage over consumption of others- That means, don’t buy shots, not for the grooms, or anybody else, and this is not a frat party, this is a wedding. So don’t overdo it

Do leave the drama at home- This is not the time to rehash old stories or disputes or politics. This is the time to enjoy and come together. If you have to, swallow your pride.

Don’t embarrass the wedding couple by trying to be the center of attention- It’s not about you!

As I have not had any negative feedback from anyone, I know my sisters are having a field day talking about it. They love to control, judge and make things about them. Am I right kicking them out when their attitude and or behavior does not aligned with the day?! I vote yes because I know how they are and I am very intolerant of bad behavior.

Wedding Invite question

My fiancé and I are doing a destination wedding where we have exclusive use of a villa and everyone will stay there for 3 nights. All 3 events will be onsite.

Should I just put the wedding date and time on the invitation? Or should I do the date range so there is no confusion? On the one hand they will need to look at our website to get information anyway, or I want to encourage them to. But I don’t want anyone to get confused because check in is the day before and check out is 2 days after.

Bridesmaid dresses question

I don't care if my bridesmaid dresses match. Other than color. I want the color to match. But our bridesmaids are all shapes and sizes, so I thought it would be fine to pick out 3 dresses and let them choose what they want. However. They are all in different states. I guess my question is, do any of you have websites you used to prder dresses, or did you go through a davids bridal. I am pretty lost at this point...any help or advice is appreciated.

December 7th, Chicago IL Winter Wedding $42k

I just got photos back from my wedding on December 7th, (super early! yay!) so wanted to begin my expense breakdown with added photos. I always loved these while I was planning my wedding, so below you'll find the details and photos throughout.

To Begin...

Engaged: April 27th, 2018

Wedding Date: Friday, December 7th, 2018

Invited: 110

Actually attended: 86

No Shows: 6 (the rest let me know in time that they were unable to attend)

Where: Ceremony and Reception both at Gallery 1028 in Goose Island, Chicago IL. It was the only venue we looked at, and I was sold on their in house catering Calihan Catering and blank canvas for my vision. It was $2,500 to have a ceremony on a Friday night.

Photography: My friends got married about 2 years ago and used Mark Trela Photography and the photos were incredible, so it was a no brainer that we went with him and his wife, Magda. We spent $4,700 on 10 hours of footage, with 2 shooters. All the photos you see moving forward are his.

Rings: My engagement ring was the Drea II (estimate 2k) with a montana sapphire from Eden Philippa and my band was the finn ($300) that fit with the shape. My Husbands was custom ($400) from Rustic and Main. Rings

Paper Products: We went with Minted with all our paper products, for our save the dates, invitations, escort cards, programs, and menus, and thank you cards. ($1200)

Decor/Floral: We used a company that had worked with our venue before, called Studio AG for our event decor and floral. I could not recommend Nicole more and she made me the bouquet of my dreams. (Price listed below)

DJ: I decided not to include their website, as I would not recommend them. The DJ was difficult to get a hold of during our planning process, and we were very particular about what we wanted played, which he didn't play until about 30 minutes before the end of the night. The mic during the ceremony had feedback at the beginning, and made a very large noise despite doing a sound check. He mispronounced our last name, introduced us as my maid of honor, and my husband. It was kind of a wreck, but I got to marry my best friend. ($1200)

My Look: BHLDN my dress was the Hearst gown in prosecco ($1695) with the Rosemary shrug ($300) I also wore the Cambrai veil ($437), and a portion of the time wore a sweater from & Other Stories ($89), necklace already owned, husband bought me a bracelet to wear the day of, shoes by Keds ($80) (I had my dress tailored at Seams in Lincoln Park by Colleen. She is a wonderful magician and I will recommend her forever. Alterations $450)

My Husband's look: My Husband wore a suit he rented from The Black Tux ($300). I found the burgundy floral tie and pocket square on etsy ($40) Suit. I bought him a tie clip, and he bought matching cufflinks for himself and his bridal party.

Bridal Party: Girls purchased their own dresses from Azazzie and Kleinfelds. Men rented suits from The Black Tux Bridal Party

Hair: I did my makeup myself, but my bridal party and I had my hair dresser Hair By Alex do my trial, day of hair, and my girls paid for their own hair ($325 for myself) Hair

Thoughts on hiring a personal trainer

How many of you have thought about hiring a personal trainer to lose weight or get in shape for your wedding?

What are reasons you wouldn't or wouldn't?

So many brides (and grooms) feel like they have to result extreme dieting before the big day. A couple of the bridesmaids at our wedding barely ate for a few days before the wedding. It really bothers me because with the right knowledge there are way easier and effective ways of doing things.

*Full disclosure I'm the head coach of weddingbarbells.com - helping brides and grooms look sexy AF for their wedding day... And night.

$17,000 out the door for venue. How much extra cost from there?

In the very early stages of this, recently got engaged and chose a venue. After tax/tip, we can be out the door for 17k on the venue.

They are throwing in a good amount of extras (wedding cake, lighting, centerpieces, hotel is gonna give us a free room and has free shuttle).

We are not going to do flowers at all for the church part, so no budget for that except the bridesmaids. Nominal church fee is being paid by her parents, my parents are paying for the rehearsal dinner.

DJ and photographer seem like the main expenses we have here outside he venue. Can anyone with experience run down a list of what to expect and maybe a total for what to expect cost wise?

Thanks

Save the Date Photo and Video Shoot Promotion!

Hi there! My name is Danielle, and my husband and I co-own Winding Rhythm Films, a cinematography company based out of Nashville, TN. Right now we are running our first promotion of 2018, and I wanted to let you all know about it! For the next 10 couples who book their wedding with Winding Rhythm Films, we will be gifting a FREE save the date photo and video shoot. It's a $550 value, which is awesome, but the best part is that we get to know you better before filming your wedding. We've found that the best wedding videos we produce are the ones where we have a personal connection with the couple we're filming.

I would love to answer any and all questions, draft a proposal, talk about cats (seriously anything!) with you and see how WRF can best serve your needs. There are some links below which will guide you to more information about the promotion, our previous weddings, and our social media!

Can't wait to meet you! <3 Danielle
