This is a subreddit for those of us who make our livings working in the wedding industry. From photographers to planners, caterers to officiants, we do it all. Also a place for those who are interested to ask questions about launching their own business.
This is NOT a place to link to articles with no additional context, promote your business, or otherwise not be a supportive community.
Subreddit for Redditors working in the wedding industry. This is for those of us wedding professionals to discuss our line of work. We discuss popular and upcoming trends, frustrations about our jobs, ways to market and grow your business, ideas about how to think outside the box, and whatever else that will help our fellow colleagues. It's the office coffee/break room (since we mostly all work alone).
Guidelines
Be Kind – We work in a high-stress field of work. Be respectful of each other. There's no need to bring that stress to what should be a fun, relaxing past time.
No Shameless Self Promotion – We get it. You want to promote your business, but this is not your audience. If you need help, advice, or have other specific questions about your website, you can link to it. Any posts that are blatant promotional posts will be deleted.
This Is Not A Place To Find Vendors If you are getting married and need to find a DJ, caterer, etc., this is the wrong sub. Try /r/wedding or other similar subreddits instead. This is place for those of us who work the industry to discuss our jobs.
Be Aware of Personal Information Due to the nature of this type of sub, it will be very easy to discern your private information by what you share here. Just be aware of what you post and that it could leave you vulnerable. If we get enough requests, we could take this sub private in the future.

Hi guys! Do you use ready-made templates for your client intake/onboarding process? If so, any recommendations on where to find them? Thanks!
Hello Wedding Planners!
First off, congrats. If you're planning your own wedding, I'm so psyched for you. What a special time :) If you're helping a friend or family member, good on you. If you're a wedding professional, I hope you're having the best season of your career.
I'm a former wedding professional. In what seems like another life ago, I was a wedding DJ, a Master of Ceremonies, and an Officiant in the Northern Lower Michigan market. I was a part of hundreds of celebrations (from the micro / super intimate affairs in backyards all the way up to the mega / helicopter send-offs from the lawns of the country club. Seriously.).
When COVID shuttered our space in the spring of 2020, I filled my time as a freelance writer (former journalist), and have since stayed full-time as a writer. But, I've never really stopped thinking about the wedding space. Which is where you come in.
I'd love to hear from folks planning a wedding right now (either as a consumer or a professional); what's missing? As you're planning your event, what is one service or supplier you wished existed that simply doesn't? What creative alternative have you been searching for that doesn't exist? Where are the gaps in your planning / arranging / event process that you wish could be filled?
I'm looking for inspiration from you and your experiences to see if there's anything that might fit in my market. I have a couple of ideas of my own, but I haven't actively planned an event in a couple of years, so I'd love to hear from people on the front lines. What do you think? What sort of wedding industry business is missing from your market? Or, what local vendor have you worked with / are working with that provides a quirky, unexpected, cool service that is a no-brainer for you? (Definitely not looking to copy a business and jump into that same market - looking for ideas to bring to my own market).
No idea is a bad idea! I'd love to hear your thoughts.
Please and Thank You! Chris

I am a wedding photographer, and I've been on WeddingWire + The Knot (Wedding Pro) for 7 years - In the beginning, it really helped me to jumpstart my business, but now, it's not as good as it was before - I pretty much pay even with the clients that I get from there - My annual fee from 2021 was $8,190.00, and now they are raising 10% !! I am thinking of canceling, but afraid to lose all my reviews and reputation won from it. Any thoughts?

Hey All! For anyone that uses the Chinese website Alibaba, i had a bad recent experience. (this company sells wedding hire and other event hire equipment)
Just a heads up - Eway Stage Equipment Co., Ltd. scammed me! Dont use this company!
Spent around 3.5k USD on some equipment from Eway Stage Equipment Co., Ltd.
Equipment arrived after 3 months of shipping, i accepted the shipment and put into my office.
Within a couple days Sydney (where i live) had large floods and i was unable to access my office.
After about 4 weeks we got back in and i tested the equipment i purchased and literally nothing worked, all was broken (didnt even turn on). My office is on the 3rd level, everything was in roadcases and received absolutely no water anywhere near it
Because it was longer then 30 days (about 35 days), trade assurance didnt work and i now the company is ignoring me.
Any ideas on what to do and PLEASE do NOT deal with Eway Stage Equipment Co., Ltd.
For the wedding planners out there. Do your couples usually provide their own signage or do you have preferred vendors you suggest and use? I’m starting mine and wanting to connect with planners but not sure if this is something that’s usually done. Thanks everyone!!
Hi wedding professionals! I’m a bridal MUA and lately I’ve been noticing something
A planner will contact me to inquire about my services. Then they will tell me they have some other makeup artists they want to check with first before committing — which is totally fine and understandable, I don’t care about that.
What I DO care about that’s been bothering me lately is they will ask me to help them with finding vendors for other things like — who would I recommend for hair, for henna , cake, etc.
I will tell them who I recommend and the. I never hear from them again and they don’t book me. I feel like I wasted time.
Anyone experiencing this? What is best in practice to handle this?
I’d love some advice and thank you!
Hi Wedding Professionals,
I'm a fragrance consultant, and I've been thinking of ways to expand my services. I recently helped a good friend of mine pick out the perfect perfume to wear on her wedding day. One that matched the overall look/feel of her wedding and her wedding gown, and a unique scent that she'd associate with her special day for the rest of her life.
I then thought to myself "I feel like this is something other brides would want?!" And the answer is "YES!"
I'm officially working on a one-sheeter to send to bridal shops in my area that I'm hoping would be willing to put my business card at the checkout counter, or on a bulletin board. Before I pursue paid advertising routes (listing on The Knot, social media marketing, etc..) anyone else have ideas for free/cost-effective ways I could market my new service?
Thanks for your insights!
I am a salaried Special Event Manager for a privately owned wedding venue in California.
Our schedule is made for the entire wedding season already. We have had our schedules since February. My bosses are making us use PTO to secure requests off, even on days we are not scheduled which would be normally be considered our days off for the week. Is this allowed? & if I am using a vacation day then am I entitled to a different day off that week (unpaid)?
With how busy this season will be I really don’t think it’s fair to be forced to use vacation days on days that I already wasn’t scheduled. This will mean that my PTO is used up by the end of the season when I would normally take a (much needed) vacay.
Any thoughts??
Next weekend I will be working my first wedding, and it's kind of a trial job to see if I want to fully pursue working in this field. Any tips you can share with me? I guess I'm mostly nervous that I won't know what to do, or I'll be in the way. Are there any specific questions I should ask the lead wedding planner beforehand?
I've just started my journey into wedding planning, but in the fall I'm moving abroad to teach English for a year or two. Is wedding planning something I can come back and jump back into easily, or will it hurt the progression of my career if I stop to teach abroad. I have been planning to teach abroad for the last 5 years and it's why I went back to college, and wedding planning is a new avenue I'm exploring, so I hope I can do both.
Hi all!
I'm developing a start-up company to service the wedding industry. I would love to get the chance to hear some insights/experiences from some of the people that are in it! I've been in the industry myself and want to hear how others' experiences are, specifically vendors but couples too! I've made up a form on Tally (similar to Google forms), if anyone would take a few minutes out of their day to share a few things it would be extremely appreciated!
Here is the link: https://tally.so/r/wbAg63
The answers/data is for my own personal use and will not be shared online or to any public resource.
Feel free to message me with any questions! Also, if you share this link with any other wedding professionals, I will be so pleased and give you the best possible virtual high-five you've ever received...
Thank you in advance!
I found a few text services that are out there to let you
Have you tried any of these?
If a couple books a coordinator or planner after they’ve hired you what reasons do you have for communicating with the couple instead of the coordinator/planner after you’re made aware that the couple has hired someone to assist them?
Serious question because this happens…
Hello all, I have worked as a wedding videographer for 6 years. I love weddings and wedding culture, I find them energizing and very fun to see people on one of the best days of their lives. I've never been able to scale my business past freelance, however, and now that I've been to 50+ weddings and seen how they work, I've thought about trying my hand at wedding planning. Bear in mind, I have no experience with this yet, but I've seen enough weddings play out to understand how they go. So I'm hoping the jump wouldn't be that major, as I'd at least have an idea of what I'm doing.
My hope is that by scaling up the business, I could also use it to boost the videography side as well, as I don't really want to let that part go. More or less, I'm hoping it would be consolidated as a part of the wedding planning experience. I plan the wedding AND do the video.
I'm reaching out to see if there is anyone else in a similar boat who made the jump or have any advice? In truth I'm not sure everything that a wedding planner is responsible for, so any advice or thoughts would be greatly appreciated!
I see this subreddit is not very active but I’d love to bring it back to life and have a spot to chat with other wedding professionals… swap good practices, new ideas, talk about challenges, etc.
I will start - I work in sales at a wedding venue!
Tell me or ask me anything OR here’s a a few starter topics…
Over a year and a half into the pandemic are your wedding bookings back for summer 2021 or still postponed?
How have you been finding that the industry has changed with the way you get business with Instagram, TikTok, etc? Are you actively focusing on new social media channels? Is FB dead for our industry?
Love to hear for any wedding pros and see if we can get a bit of a community going again here!
Tl;Dr I want to build a web app to make group travel planning easier. I'd like to talk to people about their problems with group travel planning. You can schedule a time to talk here: https://calendly.com/betatest1/10-minute-interview
I've wanted to make one for myself for awhile, and if there's a chance that I can help other people also, I'd love to! hoping I can talk to a few people about their problems with planning group travel.
I've always had problems trying to plan group trips with friends and want to build a web app to help myself. Since I'm doing it anyway, why not try and make something that would help other people also? I want to figure out which of my problems with group travel planning overlap with yours so that I can build a better tool.
If you've got 10 minutes to spare during the next two weeks and want to help a stranger you met on the internet, you can schedule a time on calendly here: https://calendly.com/betatest1/10-minute-interview
If you'd like to talk but would rather do so in the comments I would also love to see what you have to say below!
Hey! The other day I had a meeting with Sam Hurd via zoom. He told me that my editing style is very inconsistent and I should pay attention to the tone curve and especially to the blacks. I had no editing style that I liked so I edited every image as I like. One I liked very saturated, the other with less color. Recently I started using Mastin's presets (Portra 100-300) and I'll stick to them. My question is how do you get consistent looks on all of your images because I'll like mastin on some images but I will not on others?
My IG is @fotografia_bulgaria, not trying to get followers, just if you're curious. The recent 5 images are with Mastin.
I'm going to a local wedding expo next week and was wonder what I should bring. Since I'm just starting out and am limited on funds, I didn't acquire a booth, but I mostly want to network with other vendors. Any advice?
(I'll be bringing a bunch of business cards and a notebook to collect other's info.)
Watched like a billion reviews. Whats your opinion ? It looks like the A7IV has better ISO performance, but its 61MP which is too much in my opinion for a wedding.
I've always been extremely interested in weddings, constantly watching wedding related shows, party planning shows, I planned my own wedding for years, then when I actually had my wedding I became more obsessed.
Now I'm thinking I would love to be a wedding planner. But I have no idea where to start or how to get there. Could anyone give me direction or a good place to start? I currently live in Colorado.
When I mirror Nikon cameras with the HDMI cable to a TV or Laptop, the screen of the DSLR is constantly ON like on Live View. That consumes alot of battery for basically nothing(because I don't watch the screen but the Laptop/TV). Is there a way to mirror without the Live Preview being on ?
