Reddittools - getting the most out of reddit
Tools and resources for getting the most out of reddit. Bots, the API, Reddit-based scripts, and the technical aspects of Reddit forks, clones and workalikes are also on-topic.

Are there any tools available that can mass block various users from a friends account? I trust their blocked list and want to block the same people. How to do this automatically?
I created a Zap on Zapier that ties together my Reddit and Vybit accounts and sends a Vybit notification (where you record or choose the notification sound) when a new post matches specified search terms (e.g., subreddit and keyword). Here is the Zap template if you want to try it out:
Is there a tool to export/import subreddits more easily? Seems like it would be a good idea if you have multiple accounts. I looked around but couldn't find any.
I'm trying to figure out if I can tell how much time I spend each day on reddit. Thanks!
Hi,
We made this little tool so you can receive everyday the most populr stories published the previous day on your favorites websites and subreddits. We are only -for now- watching some subreddits but if you like the tool we can add more.
Any feedback will be appreciated. Thanks
Because the Reddit RSS feeds always have a delay before pulling a new post
Today i discovered (if you know more, please share!) some ways to get random content from reddit because it is hard to get with the top/hot/new and other classic sorting where one has to dig too much.
To find random subreddits: /r/random/ .
To find random submission in a subreddit: /r/reddittools/random
To sort the comments in a random way: well it does not really work, adding at the end on the link ?sort=random.
So I made a web app, of sorts, see http://reddit.routecube.com/
You can create categories of subreddits, then click on category titles and generate multi-reddit page of all the categories in an iframe. It also does the same thing with imgur.
It uses localStorage to persist the data, and as such it is virtually anonymous. However, this also means that if you were to clear your browsing data, all the information saved on the web app would be lost. Another downside it that this can’t be synced across different web browsers or devices, as the data is saved in the local browser only.
Because I rather sloppily implemented this using an iframe, I found that it works best if you have the “open links in a new window” enabled in your reddit preferences.
Here’s how you use it:
– You can drag both categories and subreddits on the top “menu” box to delete them.
All the aforementioned UI interactions rely on jQuery UI.
I've shared it to a few friends, and they find it useful, so I thought maybe other people would as well.
Quite possibly not the best title I've ever written. This post isn't going to contain the best English I've ever written, either; I've had beer.
As detailed in the thread here, it is possible to use an in-page navigation link to send a user to a specific comment on the same page without the browser reloading the page. This exposed an issue with Reddit Enhancement Suite. When clicking on the link, the page would open in a new tab, rendering it a pointless effort.
To solve this problem, simply go into RES preferences, choose "Comment Selector", pick "Keyboard Navigation" and deselect commentsLinkNumbers and commentsLinkNewTab. This should resolve the problem.

####Quick Guide Check out the first few references for more detail on all the modding tools and buttons, or how to get your community started. If you find yourself as a mod, here's a quick guide.
The basic things you need to do as a mod are to check the spam filter, and any reported links or comments. The amount of work can vary depending on reddit size.

Besides checking the modqueue once in a while, you can also keep an eye out for things the spam filter didn't catch or things you don't feel is appropriate. This is where the remove feature comes in handy. Conversely, approve brings something out of the spam filter and brings it public.
If you have an official statement to be made (say, verifying policy in your reddit), you can distinguish

This is by no means an attempt at a fully comprehensive list (too many to do that). Rather, this is a list of what I'd consider to be the most useful (along with some of my favorites). Some very useful items might be omitted if that feature's already included in something else.

####Multi-source
FFa = Firefox add-on, Ce = Chrome extension, Gm = Greasemonkey script
Reddit Enhancement Suite - (Ce, Gm - for Firefox, Opera, Safari)
Includes: Image viewer, keyboard navigation, show new comments, filtereddit, account switcher, never ending reddit, save comments, uppers and downers enhanced, subreddit tagger, user tagger, show parent on hover, full comments linker, single click opener, live comment preview, user highlighter, style steaks, username hider, show comment karma, hide all child comments
Displays voting for comments and new posts, reveals markdown source, and shows user inforomation (account age and karma)
Allows rage faces to be displayed reddit-wise, outside of /r/fffffffuuuuuuuuuuuu (f7u12).
####Greasemonkey Scripts
You can find scripts by searching userscripts.org or browse /r/GreaseMonkey
One of my favorite scripts - it adds boxes around comments (a feature in RES), but is wonderful by itself - and has a very useful highlight tool when mousing over a comment, adding much ease to sorting through comments.
Displays more accurate time for comments and links, giving more than just "1 month ago", to include days and minutes.
Alternating rows in reddit are highlighted lightly, making it easier to read
Highlight specified links by filtering user, subreddit, domain, or title. Includes options to hide links and customize highlighted colors.
Keeps a detailed, searchable history of your reddit browsing history
Highlight OP's comments on Reddit self-posts
Makes self-posts much easier to follow, by highlighting the original poster's username whenever they comment - they'll always stand out
Shows comment when mouse is over "parent" link
Shows a preview of your own comment as you type it
####Chrome Extensions
More extensions available in the extension gallery
A button to open an RSS feed of the reddit of your choice.
Maximizes reddit view by hiding the top (subreddit list), right (search, subreddit info, ad, list of mod, etc.), and bottom (help/about us links) until a mouseover the respective area.
Creates a chat room for any subreddit you visit in Chrome, where you can talk with other redditors viewing that same subreddit.
Open NSFW Links in Incognito Mode
If there's a NSFW link, it'll open up in an new incognito window, allowing your (NSFW) history to be deleted.
####Firefox Add-ons
Both reddit-specific and other add-ons are available at addons.mozilla.org
A toolbar that appears after clicking a link from reddit, allowing users to vote, save, and hide links, quickly navigate back to comments, and will check if to see if a link is already posted
Reddit Mutilator chops out the parts of reddit that you dislike.
Change the look of Firefox, reddit style - with one of these persona themes.
There have been a few comments about why this was a restricted reddit. Here's the explanation I gave the last time asked about it:
I thought I'd use this subreddit more as a "sticky" at the top of a thread or something like that instead of having a particularly active subreddit that changes frequently. I figured I could keep things more organized this way.
It seemed logical at the time, especially since it started out as more of a personal list of tools... but then I decided to share it.
Is there any sense to keeping it that way? I'm not sure - I'm thinking about what would be the most useful.
I'm opening it up for anyone to post. I'm working on a list to help organize the links here, which can have the same role as a "sticky" when I put a link to it in the sidebar.
Happy tooling!
