Subreddit I Adopted

I have a subreddit r/AbuseNoMore. The wiki was used to sell space to AI, other subreddit storage and other things I can make no sense of. The strange thing is that I only recently ran across this in Old Reddit with RES. I would REALLY like to remove all of it. Is there anyone who can tell me how? It isnt just a matter of hitting a delete button. There has to be 30 or more different sites etc

Basic beginner help - nested bullet points and basic current syntax

Please bare with me. I've been searching for hours and am frankly close to tears in frustration.

I'll leave the rants out.

All I need is a basic syntax sheet. Basic thing that would make me happy today is nested bullet points.

Found several answers in several places and not a damn one worked.

More than happy to teach myself but everything seems out of date.

Help please.

I'm in desktop new design but ideally it should work across all platforms

[meta] how to build a secure-ish public wiki in 15 minutes

  1. create index page and any initial content pages - start here: http://www.reddit.com/r/SUBREDDITNAME/wiki
  2. (optional) set permissions on pages only for mods to edit ("locked pages") to "only approved wiki contributors for this page may edit" (while viewing the page, click the "settings" button)
  3. go to subreddit settings, set wiki permissions to "anyone" (this enables public editing)
  4. set karma and account age restrictions to guard against vandalism, spam etc
  5. click the "save options" button
  6. check permissions on all locked pages - are they really locked? - also check that logged-out users can see the wiki (if appropriate)
  7. either add some content, or delegate permissions, so that others can
  8. enable the wiki button on new reddit - details here
  9. (optional) announce it - example here
  10. (optional) create wiki-specific CSS for headings, text, navbar, links etc

Note: to set the wiki so that only mods and approved contributors can edit: leave all page-specific permissions alone, and just set the wiki permissions (in subreddit settings) to "mod editing". This lets anyone view the wiki - but only mods, approved wiki contributors, or those on a page's edit list may edit.

PSA: mods: new reddit does NOT automatically show your wiki

The "wiki" link at the top of the page on old reddit does not automatically appear on new reddit.

To cause the wiki link to appear on new reddit, enable the setting "wiki" under Community Appearance -> Menu Links - screenshot

This setting is OFF by default. The setting can only be accessed using new reddit.

For each of your subreddits with a wiki, you'll need to navigate to that setting, using new reddit, and enable it. Your subreddit will then have a wiki link at the top of the page, like it does on old reddit.

Note: on comments pages on old reddit, the wiki link is never displayed. This is fixed on new reddit (but only if the above setting is enabled).

Backing up wiki pages?

For a project I'm doing, I want to try using Reddit's wiki system to sort my private notes on. But just in case the unthinkable happens, is there a way I can backup all the wiki pages to somewhere (like dropbox or something)

Welcome to /r/redditwikis! - post, find, and announce your subreddit wikis here.

A place to post wikis you've found, and discover wikis others have posted. Tips, tricks and queries regarding reddit's wiki system are also welcome.

What is this subreddit?

  • /r/redditwikis lets users find wikis in subreddits they don't browse, but might still be interested in.
  • /r/redditwikis provides a location for moderators to announce their wikis.
  • /r/redditwikis aggregates links to all the individual wikis, and crowdsources the discovery of those wikis.

If there's sufficient traffic here, reddit's inbuilt ranking algorithm will be able to pick out the "best" wikis. And, again if there's sufficient traffic, it will be possible to use reddit's inbuilt search function to search for wikis. This won't be a search of wiki content - but it will search for keywords in the titles of the posts in the subreddit (or in the text of a self-post).

Moderators: yes, posting your own wikis here is fine!

For offsite wiki software, platforms, and technical queries, try /r/wiki!

If you have comments or suggestions, please send them along. :)
