I am a high school freshman in Shanghai, and I am looking for someone to hold me accountable. We stay on campus except for weekends, and the schedule starts at 6:30 AM and ends around 10:00 PM, with a one-and-a-half hour break at 4:30. Peer pressure is intense here (this is one of the best schools in Shanghai and was actually my dream school in middle school), and the management is pretty strict, which means no phones or any sort of entertainment (at least for me; I don’t play sports) to relieve stress. I don’t play sports, so there is nothing I look forward to at school. We have a lot of homework, though it's not completely unfinishable (there are actually a few students who could finish it early; I probably could too if I kept working on it). I have been lacking motivation to complete it; during the evening four-hour homework session, I just stare at the desk or something, and it’s extremely grueling, so I would like to find someone to hold each other accountable and maybe hand in all of the homework next week.

I also want to compete in competitive programming, but I am rather bad at it now, trying to complete AtCoder E problems. Competitive coding competitions are also a valid way to get into a university; however, they require you to get into the national team or at least the provincial team or earn a gold in NOI, so it is even harder than the normal Gaokao route. However, I do want to give it a try.

I enjoy playing Pokémon games, with my favorite generation being Black/White. I also play some competitive Pokémon and am pretty good at SVOU, though I didn’t play it after starting high school because of the homework. I like PMD, and my favorite is Gates to Infinity. My favorite Pokémon, in order, are Alolan Vulpix, Espeon, and the Serperior line (especially Servine). I am planning to write a fic sometime, and I have some ideas, but I am not really sure how to do it.

Additionally, I don’t have many friends at school, and there aren’t many who share my interests, so I would like to find someone to interact with. Personally I find some of my classmates extremely annoying.

I would like someone to email once a week and maybe exchange snail mail, but I live in China, so it’s kind of hard to send stuff abroad or receive it. I am also planning to send to-do lists every day to hold myself more accountable (I am the manager of the class computer, so that may or may not be possible).

I’m looking for an old-fashioned, long-term exchange as a contrast to our increasingly fast-paced world. In my opinion, any good relationship requires mutual effort. Of course, it’s impossible to predict if two individuals will “click” and find enough common ground but I believe that a mutual understanding of these basics is key.

I’m German and live near the Alps, close to the borders of Austria and Switzerland. I thoroughly enjoy outdoor activities like hiking, swimming, and cycling. I’m a big music buff, especially when it comes to jazz and blues. Additionally, I consider myself a technology nerd, although I don’t follow every new trend. For instance, I’ve decided not to participate in social media due to privacy concerns (except for Reddit, of course). I’m a naturally skeptical person and question the usefulness of most new technologies around us. In my view, many of them primarily exist to collect data about us, often without truly necessary benefits.

Hey folks! I want to take on some new penpals, but it is important to me to start journaling again! To fix this, I thought I could probably mix them both together! Want to send photocopies of our daily shenanigans to each other? I don't think I can part with a physical journal, but waiting 30 days of journaling before sending pages of photocopies (kinda like a subscription to my personal life details) may be kinda fun! You don't have to write everyday or a copious amount per day (a one liner can be effective too), but we can do what we can. Washi tape and stickers will really litter these pages for me too.

As the title of the post states, I will basically talk to anybody. I don't use the functions of Reddit often, so I don't know how everything works around here. Writing has been a decent part of my life for a decent amount of time, and I have mainly focused on writing about myself and other people, as that is what I find most entertaining. However, after publishing the first part of my autobiography, I experienced a lack of motivation. I did not see much of a point in writing more if nobody was going to read my writing. Although my autobiography was published, I only bought myself a copy and then took it out of stock because I did not want other people to be able to read it due to the fact that I talked about real people (and one other reason, perhaps). I knew this going in, mind you, but I still wanted to publish it for the sake of it. I didn't know what else to write about apart from that. The problem is that the only things that I want to write about are things that I feel I can't show people for whatever reason, and then it also feels pointless to write if I am not going to show people. Quite the dilemma, I suppose. Anyway, talking to someone would be cool, so message if you feel like it. By the way, I'm a 20-year-old guy, just so you know. Also, can someone tell me what the flair means? As I said, I don't know my way around Reddit too well.

I would describe myself as an avid bookworm (mostly sci-fi/fantasy), and also enjoy learning about actual history and science. I've played Dungeons & Dragons on and off since I was a kid, though I'm not currently in a game. From time to time I do some story writing, but purely as a hobby, nothing that's ever likely to see the light of day. I'm a long time anime/manga fan (no, it's not just a passing phase). Definitely into video games, mainly on PC, but in a bit of a lull right now, having trouble finding a game that really hits just right.

On the less nerdy side, gardening is one of my bigger hobbies. I built a large raised-bed earlier this year for growing veggies, and weather permitting I'm often working on my yard, trimming trees, fending off invasive blackberry, cleaning up flower beds, figuring out new places to create more flower beds, etc. I make things like homemade jams and sauces from fruit that I grow, and if you've never tried homemade boysenberry jam, you're missing out. For the past couple years I've been sucked down the deep dark rabbit hole that is home-espresso, so that's kind of a hobby now too. I like hiking, occasional camping trips, and just generally getting out to enjoy nature. I also dabble in cooking/baking, and am always down to try new recipes--though I am vegetarian, so that does sometimes limit the recipe options a bit.

Hello there! Ever been caught in that tricky spot where you can not decide between two exciting options? But maybe we can brainstorm and figure out which one truly tickles our fancy. Some random tidbits about me -

- After finishing uni past year, I work as a scientist building some random artificial intelligence thingamajigs in biotech (for more technically interested ones - we do machine learning) in London. And no, we do not wear lab coats (most of the times). I am absolutely smitten with what I do and where I am. To be fair, I love science in any form.

- One of my claim-to-fame moments till now has been being at loo next to a Nobel laureate.

- I love to read. On some weekends, I sneak away to different cafés, libraries, parks, river banks, and other places in my city to read alone. A dream of mine is to have a big personal library at some point!

- I am into running, hiking, rambling, biking, and squash. In addition, I am always keen on checking out new sports! Also I really enjoy exploring outdoors, generally with friends.

- I enjoy cooking, even though I am very slow at it and I am fairly certain that I am not very good at it either. Bonus happiness though if I am doing it with friends.

- I am very close to my family. And I am the silliest (and definitely the cheekiest) one among them.

- Regarding music, I listen to a bit of everything, depending on my mood. Having said that, more often I find myself listening to classical and indie. Some of my favourite classical composers include Brahms, Vivaldi, and Dvořák. My city has an incredible music scene, so I sometime find it tough to stop myself from going to too many concerts!

- I have seen some posts including their MBTI or enneagram type. So if you are interested in that - from all the times I have given the MBTI test, I have been an ENTJ. Similarly for the enneagram tests I have been a number 3. Though I believe it is difficult to profile someone based on just one type alone (also without enough statistics).

- Here are some more random clichéd things I like. I love going to a wide variety of museums (from art to natural history and more) and spending hours getting lost inside. My personal record till now has been visiting four museums on the same day (Was it stupid? Yes. Do I regret it? Eh, not at all.). With friends, I like exploring independent cafés and sampling hot chocolates. If you are looking for a recommendation, I suggest The Wren Coffee in London for weekdays!

Hi! I am interested in sending letters (once every two weeks to a month) to a hopefully new friend. I would like them to be 17-20 years old and ideally live in the UK but its not the end of the world if its anywhere else. Having similar interests would make for good conversation starters but being quite different people would also be fun! I have two cats who I adore and live in rainy Yorkshire. I spend most of my time doing maths as I am completing my Alevels right now and am looking to go on to do physics at university. Outside of school, I enjoy climbing at a local-ish bouldering gym and reading fiction. I am attempting (and failing) to get into to cooking as I know it will be a crucial skill and less of a chore if I find myself liking it.
