Study buddy in Bioinformatics/Genomics? (preferably EU time zone)

Anyone here studying/working in bioinformatics/quantitative biology that would like a study buddy for accountability? I need to do long study sessions, and would like to meet someone in my same situation to motivate each other. I'm specifying this field since it would be nice to have or give some feedback in the work we're doing. DM me if interested.

Looking for a study partner (need motivation)

20M. I'm not really looking for a study group, just a single study partner will do.

i'm doing computing/computer science but its ok if we aren't tied to the same course, it's the work put in that counts.

Looking for friendship over computers and arts

What I know regarding;

Computers - I know enough about specifications to be able to understand when I need a better graphics card for video games. I don’t know how to upgrade ram as I keep thinking it’s not just plug and play with greater gb ram and that the motherboard might need to be compatible with the ram stick. This is of course hardware. When it comes to software I have used code blocks to make basic apps such as simple calculators to programs that calculate deliveries. I have made some simple text based games for fun, it is still a work in progress but it’s encouraging me to continue coding.

Art? Well I’ve been to school for drawing, graphic arts like gfx novels and such. Also a little stint in music but don’t enjoy playing music as much as drawing or writing. I’ve several short to long stories projects in the making. I have some ideas for cartoons or animation like claymation or slice of life cartoons. I have a detective novel in the works. I also really enjoy making video edits for stuff like music with footage. I have made some unofficial music videos and Rest In Peace tribute videos and also have done some quick mash up drafts of a original footage piece to the tune of commercial artist bands.

If anyone can team up with me that has complimentary skills to mine please let me know

One of the best websites to study English on

If anyone needs help with studying English this is one of my most favorite websites to learn from. You can choose a 1v1 option with true professionals that work there. You can study at all levels and there are many different categories you can choose from. I studied chemistry there and the experience was more than pleasing. There are also levels(beginner, intermediate and also some interesting categories like rhetorics- public speaking , business and management and many more) I recommend teacher Mike! :) https://linguigo.org/

Free essay resource

Hi everyone,

You may have previously seen my post on asking ielts students to send me their essays, in exchange for feedback.

The intention behind this is to provide more learning materials for your ielts preparation. Reading through other student essay's is an incredibly useful revision strategy and one I highly recommend.

Mainly because you can see how other students tackle the question, examples of successful and less successful writing (lessons from both), and increase your understanding around the band scores.

I have taken four essays and marked them in detail, with their IELTS score.

Access the document here.

I will be following this up with another feedback document with other student essays.

Thank you,

Emma

Time management tips that helped me to get more things done

These 5 are the best time management techniques that I have found to be the most helpful to me as a student mainly because I enjoy doing curricular activities a lot ( I find studying to be boring )

  1. Eisenhower matrix - categorising all of my tasks as important or urgent.
  2. Time blocking is the practice of setting aside a specific amount of time for a specific activity.
  3. Parkinson's Law  - creating a deadline.
  4. Eat that frog - starting with the most challenging task.
  5. Using the Pomodoro technique, I work for 25 minutes and then take a 5-minute break.

How can you make studying more effective?

Reading your textbook and memorising the answers consumes a lot of your study time and isn't the best way to learn anything to be honest, so I'm using a different method these days that has proven to be very effective called the SQ3R method, which stands for

  1. Survey - Simply go through your textbook/chapter without actually reading them.

  2. Questions - Examine the questions at the end of each chapter.

  3. Read - Read the topic or concept carefully once.

  4. Recite - Say out loud the concept you have read in your own words.

  5. Review - This is similar to spaced repetition in that you go over what you've learned at regular intervals. I've gone into more detail about this here.

How to study a subject you have no interest in

We all find it easy to study our favourite subjects. But how can we study subjects in which we have no interest? I discovered a few methods for accomplishing this, and I'm going to share a few of them with you.

  1. Play your favourite song (instrumental version) and read aloud the subject you're reading. In theory, you are still listening to your favourite song with your own lyrics.
  2. Reward yourself when you finish studying;
  3. Choose a small task to complete and study only that much; and
    1. Find an accountability partner.
  4. Experiment with the traffic light technique.

How to stop being lazy while studying

I was curious about how you could trick your mind into not being lazy while studying, and after experimenting with a variety of methods, these are the ones I found to be the most effective.

  1. The 5-minute rule entails setting a timer for 5 minutes and studying for only 5 minutes.

  2. Study with a friend to keep you motivated and less likely to get distracted.

  3. Reward yourself - When you finish studying, reward yourself so that you are motivated to get up and study again.

How to remember everything you read

3 incredible methods for remembering everything you study

  1. Whatever you're studying, read it aloud and record it in your own voice.
  2. Memory Palace - Sherlock Holmes employs this method. Visualize a familiar route or a room and associate objects such as chairs, tables, and so on with what you have read.
  3. Create a story based on what you read - Try to visualise and create your own storey based on what you read. Try inserting your own characters into long answers you're reading.

Looking for a AP bio/physics/chemistry study partner!

I’ve already finished my undergrad in a business school with a triple major. Somehow being a doctor is a dream that wouldn’t leave me behind so I’ve decided to give it a shot, but only if I can first na manage to give all the three AP exams, since they’d waive off a lot of requirements. I’d love a study partner to practice with, and keep each other motivated.

Google Chrome Dual Timer

I made a timer for chrome with the specific purpose of time boxing. Google let me know that it is available on the chrome extension page now.

https://chrome.google.com/webstore/detail/dual-timer/lkoinkcniagamfneakdjgbngnkooigdh?hl=ja

I tend to use timers all the time, from exercising to doing practice questions for my major. Hopefully this helps someone.

USMLE Step 1 study pal

Hi, I plan to give step 1 by late nov/early dec.

My immediate goals are 5 hours of BnB videos every day for the next 15 days, along with the relevant flashcards from Anking and questions from USMLE Rx.

I've said 15 days only because I have my finals after that, and step 1 prep will have to take a backseat for a little bit.

Looking for a study partner open to silent studying w/each other on zoom/skype/discord. Just someone to study with/hold me accountable.
