A place to find penpals over 30.
For the best success in posting an ad, we recommend that you include as much information as possible. Some suggestions: How old are you? Where are you from? Where do you wish your pen pals to be from? What are your hobbies and interests? What makes you unique?
Good luck, and happy writing!

Good Morning / Afternoon / Evening to you!
Thank you for stopping by on my post, I hope you’re doing well? I thought I’d post here and hopefully speak to someone from around the world, being in the UK it would be nice to speak to people across the globe but that doesn’t mean people from the UK can’t message also!
A little about me - I work in finance and that’s an absolute yawnfest so I’ll try and not bore you with that, in my free time I enjoy going on walks, photography, photo editing - definitely a work in progress hobby but hopefully I’ll get there one day. I like the usual things that everyone puts - travelling, music, films, YouTube hopping and of course the occasional beer! I enjoy watching hockey although it’s been a while since I’ve been to a game. One of the more random hobbies is checking where the plane above me is flying, normally wishing I was on it! I don’t know what else to write here but hopefully the above is a good start.
It would be good if we could speak a few times a day as sometimes when I work at home it does get a bit boring and I end up speaking to my Homer Simpson teddy. Please be over 18 and if you can bring the banter that would be greatly appreciated! Until then have a great day and take it easy!
Hello there,
I'm a 37-year-old guy from Germany looking to connect with people through good old-fashioned snail mail.
I'm a bit of a language enthusiast - I speak German, English, and Norwegian, with some Finnish and Lithuanian buried somewhere in my memory (probably next to my high school math skills). Currently taking Welsh classes because why do you need vowels if you can say 'cwrw'...
When I'm not in my course, you can find me:
I'm looking for interesting connections with people who enjoy sharing stories and experiences through letters. While I appreciate artistic letters, mine will be rather simple - I am just not the creative type. I'm open to language exchange if you're interested, but it's absolutely not a requirement.
I'd be particularly excited to connect with people from Wales, Scotland, Scandinavia or the Baltic countries due to my language interests, but I'm absolutely open to penpals from anywhere in the world.
I'm perfectly fine with longer gaps between letters because life happens, don't need to rush an answer.
If you think we might click, feel free to send me a message. Looking forward to potentially exchanging letters with you!
it's a lonely process. i'm not good at it. so many questions are popping to mind right now on what to do. if you're in the same boat, would love to hear from you. preferably if you are 35+ thanks
I’m looking for an old-fashioned, long-term exchange as a contrast to our increasingly fast-paced world. In my opinion, any good relationship requires mutual effort. Of course, it’s impossible to predict if two individuals will “click” and find enough common ground but I believe that a mutual understanding of these basics is key.
I’m German and live near the Alps, close to the borders of Austria and Switzerland. I thoroughly enjoy outdoor activities like hiking, swimming, and cycling. I’m a big music buff, especially when it comes to jazz and blues. Additionally, I consider myself a technology nerd, although I don’t follow every new trend. For instance, I’ve decided not to participate in social media due to privacy concerns (except for Reddit, of course). I’m a naturally skeptical person and question the usefulness of most new technologies around us. In my view, many of them primarily exist to collect data about us, often without truly necessary benefits.
Whenever I find the time, I also love traveling and learning about different cultures and perspectives. I’ve lived abroad twice, each time for a year, and those experiences were truly life-changing. Another hobby of mine is baking bread and cooking—I firmly believe that life is too short for bad food!
I‘m look forward to your message and getting to know you!
I’m looking for writers who enjoy penning long, meaningful letters. Someone who allows me to vent without judging it as “gossip,” because I relay my experiences, not unconfirmed rumors.
I don’t judge others on what they share with me. I will answer each topic you write about, though some of my responses might be brief to let you know I read it and acknowledge it, as I might not have an opinion or any knowledge on that specific topic.
I really like to compare aspects of different religions. Especially comparing and contrasting the Islamic faith to Christianity. If you’re a Christian, knowledgeable on the religion, or just want to hear about Islam, let’s connect to compare/contrast. If you don’t like religion, just let me know and I won’t even mention anything religious. My parents are atheist, so I can talk about other subjects forever.
I write using a fountain pen (I own like six from different makes and models) and carefully select an ink. Most of my ink is blue, because it has the most variety, I’ve found. Most of my blue ink is from Diamine. I do not write in fancy script you’d see in a historical document. I do write your name in a flourished calligraphy with a brush pen, though. The fountain pen is in my lame penmanship. I write in print.
On average, I’m getting about 7-8 pages out (4 sheets of paper) for my introduction letters. My consistent replies can be longer, depending on what I have to answer and how much has happened within my update.
I do not keep physical letters. I save a photo in my tracker to reference, if need be. I record all incoming and outgoing letters. If you need to know a last reply date, feel free to message anytime.
Happy writing!
Hey all! My name is Autumn and I recently joined Reddit. I mainly joined since I wanted to find people that were interested in chatting with me. I am 30 years old and am from the East Coast (US).
I have a number of hobbies, including reading, listening to music, watching movies, fishing, cooking, traveling, kayaking, swimming, gaming, photography, etc.
If interested, send me a DM.
I am your regular 40 year old man. I work too much and don't have many friends as i moved around a lot and work and family make it too difficult to remain in touch with friends overseas. I'm looking to meet someone to chat with everyday. I prefer reddit DMs and not emails or snail mail. I will put in effort and energy to get to know you, keep your secrets, give you advice and be your best friend. I enjoy sports and movies. I like travelling when i can and have been to many countries.
I'm a 49-year-old with a mind that never seems to stop, yet as an introvert, I’m most content when curled up in my own cozy corner of the world. I recently stumbled into an online friendship and found the experience intoxicating—the kind of connection that leaves you craving more depth and exchange.
Books are my sanctuary, whether they challenge my thinking or simply add a touch of joy to my day. I’ve created a home workspace that balances productivity with comfort—my little haven where I can thrive. What truly excites me, though, is that rare, one-on-one conversation where two minds can playfully engage and explore.
I’m searching for a pen pal who appreciates the art of exchanging thoughts, secrets, and dreams. Someone who enjoys the nuances of connection and isn’t afraid to surrender a bit to a strong mind. If you’re intrigued by the idea of thoughtful conversations, the occasional book recommendation, and a touch of playful teasing—I’d love to connect.
Hi all,
I posted a whiiiile ago and I have found a couple wonderful people to talk to. However, I made some realizations that I would rather correspond with another female/trans sister/nonbinary person. I just have a lot to talk about that relates to the experience of being a woman or choosing to not be in the binary.
To be clear I am queer 🏳️🌈it’s just the term I prefer as I am bisexual/mostly pan. Everybody can stop at the shop. However, so few people out of the queer community understand “pan”. It’s also very confusing for people for the same reason always - I am bisexual and I am married to a man. Everyone assumes you’re not really bisexual until you tell them your husband is too. So I’m sure so many of you understand it’s tricky.
I just thought I’d get that out of the way because the second part of my interests and personality tend to make people very nervous. I am a goth elder millennial (I wasn’t allowed the clothes in high school, so I made my professional career theatre stage management where you are required to wear black, boom I got them).
My home is by a lot of accounts very creepy. I don’t want to reveal too much in case you’re interested at all?! It is pretty full of taxidermy, rare bones, momento mori, wet specimens, and several just straight up an antiques we like. However, I particularly favor articulated skeletons. The oddities shop, i’m always in attendance. That witchy spot that sells random books but a lot of strange crystals? See you there. Antique store that looks vaguely creepy, I’ll meet you.
Now that all my spookiness is out of the way, if that hasn’t driven you away! I also love to read, I usually stick to nonfiction because my adhd confuses me on if I’m supposed to know things or not. I love poetry: Sylvia Plath, Alfred Lord Tennyson, Khalil Gibran, I love James Baldwin’s poem “The giver” but I think his quotes are a so much more incedible, E.E. Cummings makes me feel like I’m going to cry. At my wedding one of my dearest friends read, “[i carry your heart with me (i carry it in)]. I could go on and on.
Quick interests: oddities stores, enamel pins, doc martens, Birkenstocks, reefer (a lot), your spiritual journey, (a little bit goth a little bit hippie) your pets, high fashion actually [just cause I’m a goth doesn’t mean I don’t know a Chanel :)] particularly Alexander McQueen whose vintage pieces I collect, I have a stack of journals going back years, I love writing way too long letters, what your favorite band is because I didn’t get into it here…all kinds of things but a lot are spooky I hope that’s ok.
I also learned I shouldn’t be the first to write because I get self conscious and keep ripping them up and starting again. If I get a letter in the mail I feel obligated to respond because it’s fun and polite.
That’s me! So ✌🏻🤘🏻
Hi there! I'm Bre, 30/F and from the southern US. I'm looking for a few people to write to digitally. I can do long emails, shorter messages here and there, or even daily communication. Up to you!
I'm newly diagnosed AuDHD. Got the Au literally less than 24 hours ago. It was a shock to say the least. Not what I was expecting. So any other AuDHD-ers out there, I would love to talk to you specifically! I'm still processing things, but most people around me have said, "yeah, I see it." Oop. I guess my masking wasn't strong enough. It's STRONG, don't get me wrong. I went for 30 years undected and it was only an offhand comment from my therapist that got me to test. But yeah, AuDHD, woooooooo!
I'm super crafty (I guess you could call it my special interest) and have so many crafty hobbies. My main hobby is crochet. I'm working on Christmas stuff right now and have at least 1 blanket and 8 stockings to make. You should see my yarn stash, it's HUGE! I'm also learning how to sew/quilt. I have at least 1 quilt and 3-4 stockings to sew too. Plus, I have have a laser cutter and plan to design and cut stocking tags for every single stocking. What did I get myself into? I also make bread! I'm still learning past quick breads. I really want to try sourdough around Christmas. I just worry I will kill the starter. Bread will also be included in the Christmas gifts. And maybe cookies too. I go all out with Christmas! I love giving gifts! If we message long enough, prepare for care packages! Or maybe even a visit! I've met some of my penpals before! Such an amazing thing!
I have been watching some anime here and there lately. I just started on the new Ranma 1/2 series as the original was near and dear to my heart growing up. I'm also watching Delicious in Dungeon. And I need to rewatch The Apothocary Diaries before it starts running again in January. I never did finish My Happy Marriage because I wanted to read the manga alongside the anime (something I frequently do) but the manga is no where near caught up with the show. I do have the light novels though, so I should probably read those too. I like mostly lighthearted stuff if you have any recommendations. Itazura na KISS is my all time favorite anime/manga. Fun fact, I actually went to Japan. It was amazing.
I also do consider myself a SASS witch. So, while I don't believe in the supernatural qualities of magick, I still do believe that it can have a profound impact on our lives. The wheel of the year is super important in my practice because it helps me to know where we are in the year (thanks SAD). I'm mostly a hearth witch. Though I do dabble in some emotional work for myself too.
I love to talk about anything and everything. I am aroace though, so I prefer not to discuss 'spicy' subjects. I'm a pretty liberal person though, so I am willing to talk with most anyone. Just platonic stuff please, as I am already married. I'm also still reeling from the US election last night too, so if anyone needs to commiserate, I am here for you. Feel free to shoot me a DM/PM! My inbox is always open!
I am frustrated in my life. I always believe in spreading positivity so it returns back. I just want to talk
Greetings.
I’m searching for a pen pal who’s into thoughtful conversations about history, science, philosophy, and the endless worlds of sci-fi and fantasy. If you enjoy diving deep, exploring new ideas, and aren’t afraid of a bit of intellectual back-and-forth, I’d love to connect! I’m hoping for someone who appreciates discussions that go beyond the surface and isn’t shy about exploring complex topics.
If that sounds like you, drop me a message, and let’s see if we’re a good match for some engaging correspondence!
37M from Eastern Europe.
My goal is to find a penpal in Scotland, someone with whom I can exchange snail mail and share my passion for all things Scottish. I'm especially captivated by the Isle of Skye; I've been fortunate enough to visit Scotland three times, each trip deepening my love for its landscapes and weather.
DM me of you're a Scot living in Scotland and would love to exchange handwritten letters with me!
A bit about myself.... I'm a voracious reader! I love science fiction (AI & space opera related), cozy mysteries, espionage thrillers, classic literature, and detective novels, along with watching films/TV in the same genres (Hercule Poirot anyone?😍). I also enjoy listening to a variety of music and I'm teaching myself art, architecture, and design. Currently , I live/work in Albania, prior to that it was Poland and before that Russia.
Hope to hear from my new Scottish friend soon!
Hey all. My name is Mary. I’m 39 and currently reside in New Hampshire. I was born and raised in Ontario, Canada. I am interested in those around my age for a platonic friendship.
I have a plethora of hobbies that include watching movies and TV, cooking, photography, traveling, fishing, swimming, gaming, etc.
I enjoy gaming and have a PS5, Switch, PC (Steam), and Steam Deck.
Anyways, I hope you all have a fantastic day/night and DM me if you’d like to chat.
Going through a confusing time and would love to be able to talk about it with someone possibly going through the same and offer support. Thank you :)
Hi - newer to Reddit, and was drawn to this type of sub quickly. It seems like everyone is looking for friends nowadays, and I'd love to strike up a conversation to carry on whenever we can about anything and everything. Higher level stuff : what happens when we die, have you ever visited a European city, do twins who marry twins always have twins, that kind of stuff! Feel free to message directly.
Hi. My name is Amanda, but I prefer to be called Mandy. I am 32 years old and a female from Kentucky. I have worked for a while in the medical field, and I love helping people. I am in need of some friends to talk to. I spend a lot of my time by myself, and it gets boring and lonely. I enjoy reading, writing, painting, hiking, fishing, and camping. I really just need someone to talk to so I don't feel like I'm losing my mind. Feel free to reach out if I seem like someone you would enjoy talking to.
Hey there! Thanks for checking out my post. I'm looking to find someone to make friends with. I love to learn new things, see different prospective of the world, and ways of thinking. I love cats and currently have 3, did have 4 (so maybe I'm a bit of a crazy cat guy?) enjoy anime from time to time, play on my PS5(I love the Soulsborne games), go for walks and runs around my neighborhood and hopefully see some animals, and go for drives. I also love to travel to different countries and wish I could do it more. Anyway, if you wanna talk with me hit me up here and we can exchange emails! Thanks for taking time out of your day to read this!
Hiya! I'm looking to get back into writing letters and having penpals! I had a few a couple of years back and sincerely miss both writing and receiving.
I live in Pennsylvania, married, workaholic, looking to make some connections with people. My language is gift giving so would love to be able to get to the point where I can send some small items - either hand made, something unique found at a flea market, or just a little "was thinking of you" token of appreciation.
I recently got a cute new little stationary set and am eager to start writing! Please let me know if you would like to start a friendship!
First time poster here so apologies in case I misstep in my post. I did post this on the main sub-reddit of r/penpals but this environment is age appropriate.
3 decades on this rock and I have amnesia whenever I've to describe myself but I'll try. I'm a lawyer and lecturer hoping to connect with people all around (Yes, it is not flat) to grow my perspective, become culturally informed, and foster a connection with diverse people as pen pals.
I'm a sponge and am chronically online with way too many varied interests to list but they are including but not limited to: History, philosophy, geopolitics, literature, YouTube drama, and other obvious ones like podcasts, gaming, cars, movies, and music.
PS: I function on the Indian Standard Time, if that matters. We can open a dialogue through Reddit DMs and take it from there.
Hi there! I’m Chris, a 6’6” guy with short brown hair and a down-to-earth vibe. I’m happily married and here looking for penpals who want to exchange stories, share some laughs, and dream about future adventures. Trying to get a bit healthier these days, so I’m on the journey to a better me!
A bit about me: I work in support of the education system, and I love spending time with my partner. Together, we enjoy life’s simple pleasures, whether it’s cozy nights in or exploring new spots around town. When I’m not out and about, you can usually find me playing video games like Fortnite, OnceHuman, or Call of Duty—or watching TV. Not a big fan of horror, though; I’m definitely a bit of a “scaredy cat” when it comes to scary movies!
We’re expanding our horizons and planning more travel—Maryland next year and Paris the year after that. I can’t wait to see where these trips take us!
On the home front, I’m a huge animal lover with 4 cats and 3 dogs who bring so much joy (and a little chaos!) to our lives.
If you’d like to share letters, life updates, or just random thoughts, feel free to DM me here or send me an email. Looking forward to connecting! (I can provide the email if you would like to chat that way.)
It is impossible to live without failing at something, unless you live so,cautiously that you might as well not have lived at all - in which case, you fail by default. (this is the part where you can guess who said this, hint hint Alexa and Google might come in handy and give you a helping hand)
So that up there was my shot at an inspirational speech that would probably have you thinking "I think he might be smart " only to find out whether I'll live up to the expectations or I'll be a total flop, flip the coin, take the risk and see whether your time will be wasted or will equate to a fruitful friendship. This is the part where you insert the suspense filled *dun duuuun duuuuuuun * I hope the the letter "u" resembles the level of suspense I wanted to potray on that particular section.
Since breaking the ice requires some prerequisites, let us play a game of 10 questions. Through this we shall be able to discover bits and pieces about each other and expound on them slowly as we build our conversations.
A wild plague sweeps the whole world when you are asleep, you wake up and find that you are the only surviving member of the homo Sapiens species, what would be the first thing you'd do? (inspired by the TV series last man on earth)
You are in a mall, and suddenly caught up in the middle of a flash mob. What would you do? Join the Mob or stand on the sidelines and watch?
3 you have attended your favourite band's concert and in the middle of the performance they pull you up on stage, to sing with them. Which band would you want it to be?
Name three songs you have been listening to off late on your playlist
What can you see when you look outside your window right now?
What are some of your favourite hobbies?
Taken for a date in a restaurant, between fish and chicken, which one would you pick? Or are you a vegetarian?
Do you sing in the shower, or intentionally put cold water on to avoid singing in the shower?
What is the one thing you must do before everything ends in the world if it was on a timer of 10 days?
What would you put in a time capsule given the opportunity?
Let's start with these few ones and get to have a great pen pal conversation during this crazy time in the world.
Looking forward to hearing from you. Actually reading from you. Anyone is invited I don't discriminate
Yours truly
N
29m but 30 in a month! Hey all! I’m from Australia and looking for new friends to share jokes with and have a fun conversation! I have 2 kids and 2 fur babies! I’m a fitness coach and love to help people with tips and tricks. I play guitar (not very good but hey 😆) and love to cook! If you’re looking for a new online friend, pen pal or just a new pal hit me up!
Hey there
As we all are here, I am seeking a pen pal. hopefully one that will correspond via snail mail.
I am 34 years old, married, have an audhd child. When not doing things with the little one I play videogames or watch anime. I am a big old fantasy nerd. Really into D&D, LotR... etc.. Pretty much if it involves dragons, magic, elves, or anything not real AND fantastical then I will probably like it.
As for why I am looking for a pen pal.. I find keeping real life friendships difficult. I crave having a friendship so much but I just cant seem to do it. I suspect that having a pen pal through the mail will curb that and provide just enough novelty that I will be able to upkeep!
I don't want to reveal too much about myself as I want to keep that for the possible new friendship.
While having someone that can understand my point of view would be nice.. so too would having someone that has a completely different understanding and place. I am a woman and in my 30s, but my prospective pen pal does not have to be either of these.
Hopefully someone is interested!
Thanks!

I've been fortunate to have had a few penpals in my life, from item exchanges to e-mails. I'd be very interested in seeing if I could experience that again and in being that experience for my penpal.
My ideal communication method with someone is in the form of lengthy, detailed, intricate paragraphs and pages that delve into a variety of topics and themes. Even when meeting people under less defined ways we sometimes end up becoming de facto penpals due to how long it takes to properly respond to each other. So, if digital exchange is what you're after, this is the form it should take. I am quite fond of physical exchanges, however, as they allow for much more. Anything from casual post cards to longer letters will do, or focusing more on cultural exchange as opposed to ones based in communication. The point of penpaling, after all, at least to me, is to meet people you otherwise wouldn't and for both involved to learn more about each other and their lives. What I'm after is connection and intrigue, and not an extra piece of mail every few weeks. I could just buy myself a little something every so often if I wanted that.
Due to the private nature of penpaling, I'd like us to actually chat a bit and get to know each other before diving right into the physical aspects of it. Let's become familiar with each other to make sure we're a good fit, although e-mail exchange is something I'm more open to in the immediate now.
I'm 34, male, and from the Eastern US. I'm looking for someone that I first and foremost relate to on a personal and deeper level. My ideal is to actually get to know my penpal - cold exchanges are less interesting to me, but aren't completely rejected. Location doesn't matter as much, as who the person is defines whether I'd like to connect with them or not. That being said, I do have a preference for cultural exchange and differences, so I'm more open to people from parts of the world more distinct from my own. Part of why I like penpaling is to be exposed to things I otherwise wouldn't be and to allow that for someone else as well. But, whether you're in my state or half the world away, it's you, the person, I want to exchange with.
More about me and what I'm seeking:
Think we could have a great exchange? I'd greatly appreciate a reasonably lengthy chat/message in which you told me what within my ad resonated with you, what you're seeking, and anything else you may want to mention. My ideal is physical exchange in the form of letters and the occasional addition of items, but message me even if you have a different preference. Leave your hesitations and take the chance. If you liked anything you read here, there's a very high likelihood of us both gaining or experiencing something wonderful together. Don't doubt yourself or what's possible, The person themselves matters more than the form of penpaling we take on. You never know until you take the chance, and I've certainly been shocked countless times in life by what does and doesn't work.
Hi I'm 32F from the UK I have some really weird sleeping patterns with insomnia on and off lately so i thought i could channel some restless energy by making some cool international friends! from around the world.
I have an endless curiousity to learn more about different countries cultures and life perspectives so tell me some cool unique facts about your country lol
Some of my hobbies & interests includes being a big history buff especially the renaissance period/ancient civilizations/past empires, love horror & scifi movies, fantasy novels like a song of ice & fire/the wheel of time/dune, I enjoy art painting sketching abstract works, reading & discussing politics and different geo political systems around the world with different ideologies, travel, outdoors hiking camping in summer, retro music.
I’m in upstate NY. Just a boring night. Looking to chat with peeps around my age. We can chat about anything! Bonus points if you have a big butt and like Pokemon 😄 Gen 1 will always be the best. Mew will always be the best Pokemon, change my mind. I also enjoy oldies jazz music (like Frank Sinatra stuff), video games, Netflix, coffee. So DM me and help cheer a fella up
Hi there. I am 31, M, Ecuadorian. I have never had pen pals and the concept is very interesting to me. Writing is a great way to develop friendships with people. Never considered that option until now.
I am willing to write with many people as long as possible. I am fairly accesible and keep an open mind on many things. I also want to improve my English (it has become a little rusty) through writing and reading. My current interests are religion, the paranormal, sciency and spiritual topics, but I am also very inclined to read personal stories that you may disclose, learn from you and hopefully be a good listener for you.
I have no gender nor country preferences. Just please follow applicable rules (minimum age, etc.) to make a positive experience for all of us.
Note: I can only do email pen pals/online chat. Unfortunately, snail mail is not possible for me.
Thanks in advance!
I’m hopeful to reach out to some friends. People who are like-minded. For example, I’m a Trump supporter. I also happen to be a super conservative person. My mother always told me not to talk about money, politics, or religion. I grew up and realized those are my topics of actual interest. In my mind, when I find a friend, that friend will add me to their Goodreads and have excellent psychological fiction recommendations that we can share with each other. I read, take walks, love hiking and camping, and personally think winter is the most terrifying season of the year, although during a tornado you can observe me climbing on the roof to wave at the storm. My travels took me all over North America and today the Old South resonates with me the most. If you know Spanish, you could help me in my journey toward becoming bilingual.
