A little about me - I work in finance and that’s an absolute yawnfest so I’ll try and not bore you with that, in my free time I enjoy going on walks, photography, photo editing - definitely a work in progress hobby but hopefully I’ll get there one day. I like the usual things that everyone puts - travelling, music, films, YouTube hopping and of course the occasional beer! I enjoy watching hockey although it’s been a while since I’ve been to a game. One of the more random hobbies is checking where the plane above me is flying, normally wishing I was on it! I don’t know what else to write here but hopefully the above is a good start.

I love foreign films, romantic comedies, action, sci-fi and fantasy movies.
I started writing because I don't watch films enough and these days give a lot of the movie screenings/premieres to my writers instead of allocating them to myself. But I am cutting that down to being time poor.

I don't get the chance to watch TV as much as I like but I am obsessed with Bridgerton at the moment and I am aching to watch Season 3 when Part 1 finally comes out this month!

I love astrology although I admit I'd love to learn more, art, going to museums, art galleries, theatre, the movies, concerts. Concerts are my happy place.

If I could go back in time, I would want to see Freddie Mercury perform live with Queen in his prime.

Sports wise, I am obsessed with tennis. My favourite tennis player is Andy Murray (he is lovely, honestly). I go to the Australian Open every year since it's in my city and try to avidly follow the tennis all year round, at least with every Grand Slam.

I got into the Formula 1 during lockdown/Covid era try to watch every race I can - but the time difference or me makes it difficult. Drive To Survive on Netflix also converted me!

I do love soccer/football but try follow international soccer whenever I can. I don't particularly have a team I'd follow in the British Premier League but if I was watching the Fifa World Cup, I would cheer South Korea or Japan over Australia (happy to explain in a chat, aha).
And you bet I will be glued to the Olympics this year whenever I have the chance to watch it and if time difference again permits.

I want to travel overseas again but the cost of living is hell! If I could, I'd love to go back to Japan or wherever the music takes me. I tend to fly overseas for concerts if I know an artist isn't touring Australia.

I am married, no kids, no pets (although animals are the best, my lifestyle just doesn't suit to responsibility owning one). I am terrified about turning 40 and I don't want to be a mother, so I don't feel I'd relate to parents talking about the children etc. I also consider myself a big kid/young at heart, I suppose I probably sound like by what I've written so I am looking for those that can relate that have similar interests to me.

I have social anxiety in person. Many think I'm a social butterfly but I feel I have to 'charge/recharge' before throwing myself into the wild.

I spend most of my time drawing (for work and for fun), reading (mostly fiction), and listening to podcasts (Top 3 are NoSleep, Dungeons and Daddies, and No Such Thing As A Fish). Inspired by a long post on reddit that I’ve read a few days ago, I won't list my hobbies or interests here. If you want to know more, just ask. But the experience of the past 33 years or so has shown me that the bonds forged by shared interests can be pretty fragile, and that's not what I'm looking for.

I don't have a precise idea of what I'm looking for though. But I do know that, for years, I've had this desire in my heart for a deep, intense friendship, to find someone with whom to share everything without shame. I have 'friends', old acquaintances for whom I have great affection, and with whom I share a few moments of joy, albeit quite rarely. But I don't know any souls with whom mine resonates, and I always feel misunderstood.

As the title says, I'm a practising Catholic, and that's the most important point of this post. What I'm looking for above all is someone with whom I can grow in my relationship with God, and I want it to be the basis of our friendship. I've never had a Catholic friend, I've never known how to make one. I don't know what's really going on with me, but let's just say that I've almost always had social problems, which have varied depending on the period of my life, and which over the last 15 years have tended towards an ever greater solitude. I'm probably suffering from depression, but I only discovered this very recently, despite the evidence. I've also sometimes thought I was on the autism spectrum, because of the way I act, but there's nothing certain about that, and it doesn't really matter in the end. Maybe I'm just a person with a melancholic temperament who can't help over-analysing everything, whether in my external relationships or in my inner life, which tends, in a way, to paralyse me.

In short, what I want is to find a soul with whom I can walk towards God. Despite the perhaps slightly morose tone of this post, I want to share the joys as much as the difficulties, but I simply don't want to hide this dark side. I need help to be, if not a good Catholic, at least simply a Catholic. And on my own, I always feel as if I'm irresistibly slipping back into the same lows.

Over the last few months, I've had to face up to my dark side and discover things about myself that I didn't know about, or perhaps that I had refused to face all these years. I've been very far from God, more than I had ever been since my conversion and I never want that to happen again. I don't want to lie to myself any more. But I don't think I can do it alone.

I don't care if you're a woman or a man, how old you are or where you come from. I have nothing against Protestants or other religions, and in fact it was a young Protestant woman who brought me back to God, but it is very important to me that you are Catholic, or at least Orthodox, so that we speak the same language. You can still write to me if you don't fit in, but I'm afraid that together we won't be able to reach the depth to which I aspire, and to which I hope you aspire too. Bear in mind that my desires may not be what's best for me, and that God may have other plans for us, so feel free to write anyway!

I have cut off a lot of “friends” from my life when I realised no one was genuine. I chose to be alone but sometimes, it gets very lonely without anyone to talk to. I’m sure you get what I mean.

I have 3 cats. I love tattoos ( I have 8 of them myself). I’m into music (anything except rock and metal). I’m a Harry Potter junkie. I love horror movies although I often watch them with my eyes almost closed. I write poetry. I love to learn new things, anything and everything basically.

I've been learning Dutch for a while now. I'm not looking for a teacher, I'm looking for a friend, for someone to discover with who I am in Dutch — as I believe our personality adapts to the language we speak somewhat. I would describe myself as quiet, super sensitive, and (hopefully) kind and friendly. I live with my wife and her two kids, we have a dog and two black cats. I suffer from chronic pain (which means sometimes I won't be able to go to the postbox quickly), and while I have sorted out a lot of stuff, I'm still dealing with trauma and anxiety.
