What are your favorite extras to make or send?

I love making things like bookmarks, origami, ATC's and I was hoping for some new inspiration of flat stuff I could make or add to my letters :) So what is everyone's favorite stuff to add?

Edit: I made a Pinterest board of ideas if anyone's interested

Getting back into Snail Mail + having a Penpal

I haven’t had a penpal since high school and I miss writing letters and decorating them for someone to read and receiving the same. Although this letter is going to a friend I’m happy I got to write one. I’ve been really into the “junk journal” trend and decided to replicate it on this envelope.

Looking for an occasion to create beautiful letters? - Try penpalling in character

Dear creative minds of this subreddit,

I know that there are never enough opportunities to write and design beautiful letters. Who uses pretty stationary, decorations and wax seals when they write to the tax office? That is why I like to present a community to you that might enable you to send a lot of beautifully crafted letters.

It is called r/fictitious_letters

There, people can look for like-minded redditors who like to penpal in character.

What does that mean? - Penpalling in character means that you write letters from the perspective of a fictional character. This can either be a historical person or a protagonist form a book or movie or even a character that just exists in your own daydreams. You can present your character in the community and find them another imaginary person to write to.

There's no limit to your ideas. Fake Napoleon's love letters to Josephine. Start a correspondence between Charles Darwin and Abraham Lincoln. Write from the perspective of your DnD character to another person's fantasy alter ego.

This is the ultimate occasion to be creative and make interesting friends with a brainful of amazing ideas!

Hopefully, you like the concept of this community. I would love to meet you there!

“Extras” Envelope I Made Today

The letter was bird themed, so I designed this envelope to go with it.

would i be able to send this small thin bracelet (thinner and smaller irl than picture) via just envelope post? it's a stainless-steel.

so i was wondering if i could just put this in the envelope of letter I'm sending it to my friend and would the post office accept it, the cost of normal parcel cost is super duper high and they don't take small parcel packages here( in the post office here)

i didn't know where else to post but since y'all have experience sending letters so i thought I'd ask

What are the general standards of penpaling

I am wanting to get into penpaling but I'm kind of unsure where to start. Do I need any particular supplies? are there certain rules of etiquette I don't know about? do I have to have really neat handwriting, or does it just need to be legible? Are there any tips for beginners?

Any response helps, I'm not sure where to start.

ISO My Fourth Grade Penpal

In 2005 my school (USA Oregon) had a Penpal exchange program with the Mentari International School in Jakarta Indonesia. I've kept this letter since, and would love to know how Syafia is doing these days Does anyone know how to find her with the given information? Transcript: "Dear Asta my parents have two kids my sister and me. I'm 10 years old. My school is called "Mentari international School Cipete" I also like traveling although traveling is kind of tireing I think I'm going to USA on June. I think I am really going to the USA! Fourt grade was fun but I'm sure I'm going to miss my friends I like drawing and painting although I would like to tell you many things I have two bunnies how about you? So I want to tell you that my bunny's names are flox and latee but flox died 2 days later after me and my dad and my sister I was so sad I cried that day at night before I sleep I pray for flox. Although every night I pray for latee to live long and latee is sometimes also called snowy. So I'd like to answer your questions. I have a garden. I'm not sure what kind of flowers I have! I don't have a Craft Warehouse you pronounce my name like Sha-Fl-ya but you spell it s y a f i a I'd like to ask you some questions. When is your birthday? Where do you live? How do you pronounce your name? What is your hobby? What is your favorite food? Regards, Syafia"

how can i send letters in a cheap way??

Sorry if this subreddit isn't the right place to ask such questions, but today i went to the post office to send an international letter and I was literally charged 10$ (more or less) to send one letter. I thought it was SOO expensive (??), how do yall send your letter?? I have many pen pals and if this continues to be so expensive I'm gonna be broke LOL. I know you can put some seals/stamps on the envelope and drop it in a letterbox, but still I'm afraid of messing it up with the stamps, that's why I go to the local office post where they do it for me. Please help me out!! thanks

Outgoing mail

I've been penpaling for almost a year now. It's a really fun and beautiful hobby which I'm glad I got into. I still feel like om struggling with feeling content about how I decorate my mail so I thought I'd share one here .

Why do people like pen-palling?

I've been looking into penpalling because it seems like it would be a great thing to look forward to. I love receiving mail and letters, and I love decorating and sending mail. It seems like it would be a nice thing to put effort into, like doing nice doodles, sharing small interesting tidbits, finding stickers to include, etc.

But I'm actually not hugely interested in a big personal connection. I find sending texts exhausting, and emails are always stressful because I usually only get business emails or marketing emails. If it ends up happening, that would be cool, but I'm not interested in pen-pals because I want to make friends specifically, and it seems like that's what a lot of people are looking for. I personally don't like how the internet give people constant access to me all the time, and mail seems like a nice way to communicate at a slower pace, without getting overwhelmed.

In total, I think I want to try pen-pals because I think the physical aspect of mail is fun (both sending and recieving) more than an intimate personal connection, and I want to know if other people have the same idea? Would I be able to find a pen-pal who thought like me, or would I end up disappointed?

Please let me know any thoughts you have, I'm interested in reading them!

Address Placement tips?

Hi! I really want to decorate my envelopes better but seem to struggle with the space.

I usually put both addresses on one side of the envelope. But I notice that people usually write the recipient's address only and the return address somewhere else maybe?

Will it become a problem if I don't put both addresses on the same side of the envelope?

Thank you so much in advance!

I hope you all enjoy this photo of this lovely little envelope stuffed with fun letters recipe cards journal prompts fun questions and more to my lovely new penpal.

All that’s missing is the final little trinket(of sorts) and that the little pocket notebook I’m working on binding with a cute custom cover!

What to do with penpals that just don't put in the same effort

I'm not sure if this is the right sub for this. So I've started exchanging emails with people, before starting I made it sure to everyone that these emails would function like letters. Which means I spend at least 2 hours per email. There is one person who always replies immediately and they dont even write half a page. More then half of the letters just seem to be copy pasted lyrics or poems. In theory I don't mind this, but I asked and they don't even say where they got them from. Also they always write only one sentence about what they did and don't include any sort of question. I'm sure this is mainly a compatibility issue but whenever I get their emails I already get so emotionally exhausted from having to think how to reply to something like that. I don't want to hurt their feelings but I also don't want to continue this exchange, do you think it would be okay if I just tell them I don't think our expectations are the same?

Looking to swap vintage kawaii stationery

Hi all! Looking to do some kawaii stationery swaps with a few people. Preferably people who are specifically into vintage kawaii stationery. I have a lot of loose vintage memo sheets, letter sets, etc. Kamio, Crux, Q-Lia, San-x, etc. looking for peeps who’d like to swap the same. No aliexpress/fake kawaii pls. :) Thinking we could do like a 3 ounce envelope of surprise vintage kawaii stationery (large memo sheets, mini memo sheets, letter sets with 2 papers/1 envelope per, sticker flakes, or whatever vintage stationery you have!) I can also swap modern kawaii name brand stationery for modern kawaii name brand stationery if you don’t have any vintage stationery to exchange. Just specify if you want to do a vintage for vintage exchange or modern for modern exchange in your message. Message me if interested. 🥰

Best inks for envelopes?

For those who decorate envelopes and use rubber stamps ... what is the best ink you've found to do so? I always worry if the mail is being delivered in the rain or something it could run off, so I end up putting tape over the address and I always wonder if that looks cheesy!

Any tips are appreciated!

Penpal etiquette

I’ve never had a penpal before but I’ve been talking to a potential penpal for a day and I need to know if I am supposed to ask to swap info or continue making conversation till they ask.
