Mars is the fourth planet orbiting the Sun.

With conditions colder, but otherwise similar to that of Earth, the red planet is anticipated to be the second best possible location for supporting human habitation in the Solar System.

Colonising the moon first, why skip this step?

I like the idea of going to Mars When the technology has evolved (and people are less dire). A technological step forwards is having some manned moon bases.

Should we aim to go to mars for 10 days inefficiently, if we can't yet live on the moon?

We can have weighted moon suits for practice.

Polygonal Ridges in Gordii Dorsum Region, an oil painting by me

I paint Mars landscapes based on NASA's public domain photos taken by MRO. I also layer real Martian dust onto the wet paint in some areas of the painting to create a stronger connection with the Red Planet. My paintings are meant to look abstract until you learn what they are of. If you look up the name of the painting on science.nasa.com you'll find a corresponding photo I used to make a painting and you will see the resemblance. LMK what you think of this idea.

The international Mars Society activity in over 40 nations remains focused on sending human explorers to Mars. It is not dependent on who is the President or Prime Minister of any nation including the United States.

Colorful Mawrth Vallis, oils and Martian dust on canvas, by me, 24"x48"

I paint Martian landscapes based on NASA’s public domain photos, primarily those captured by the HiRISE camera on the Mars Reconnaissance Orbiter (MRO). My intent is for my paintings to appear abstract at first glance, but once viewers recognize what they depict, the pieces reveal both artistic and scientific value. To create a physical connection with the planet, I apply Martian dust over the wet paint in certain areas of each piece. This dust is sourced from certified Martian meteorites and chemically matches the composition of Mars soil as we understand it.

If you've ever wanted to see a sunset on another planet, here you go. This beautiful sunset was taken on the Martian surface by Curiosity on April 15th, 2015.

Ice-filled Crater. Oil and Martian dust on canvas, 16"x40", by me

I paint Mars surfaces using NASA's public domain photos as photo references. I also layer Martian dust in some areas of my paintings, where the color permits. Martian dust comes from Mars meteorites. I'm currently working on a series of such paintings called Martian Treks. Hope you guys enjoy!

A dream of mars i had long ago on a lonely day when i was sleeping

Before starting, i am an astrophile (someone who loves space and astronomy) so even this small dream meant a lot to me.

This one night when i went to sleep, as soon as the midst of night took over my eyelids and they started to close. I went into the REM state. Then, the dream started.

I remember wearing a high-tech or more advanced space suit, i was on mars. Though i had never really visited (ofcourse) i felt a sense of anemoia (meaning: a sense or feeling or nosalgia of something or some place you have never been to) and that nostalgia was nothing normal. IT was home-ly. I started to go around and explore a bit, let me explain the environment.

It wasnt totally redd-ish ofc, it was like mar's original surface the clouds were orange-yellowish like sand on earth, the environment was lonely as hell, no one literally no one but just me. I have no explanation of how i ended up there but yeah. I could seee farrrr off lands, rocky small hills but then as i was exploring, i saw this one rock mountain which had a cave?

Moving forward, i ended up being surrounded by idk how to explain what, some species? they were not alien-looking, they seemed to be human-ly. I went with them? Maybe they were martians. They didn't talk anything but just stared at me and eachother but i could feel and sense what they r trying to convey.

Ultimately, they took me to the cave i was talking about earlier, and they sat me down on a rock, it wasnt any home it was just... rocky. I further looked at... Mars, from that cave because it was on a higher altitude. Mars is lonely-ly beautiful and i don't know i felt a certain connection to that and those people and yes then my dream ended as i was watching mars along with those unknown human-ly species.

PS: the species didn't have any suit on but they were in some different kind of clothing.

Seriously??

Okay, obviously some people are a little too gung-ho about making money on Mars or visiting it. I really couldn't be bothered reading the article, simply because it's just too fucking weird 🙄
