Articles and discussion about the Kuiper Belt

The Kuiper Belt is a little-understood zone in the outer Solar System beyond the gas giants, home to dwarf planets and assorted rocks and debris of various classifications (Trans Neptunian Objects, Scattered Disk Objects, Centaurs, Trojans, Damocloids, and more).

The most well-known Kuiper Belt object is Pluto.

What's in the Kuiper Belt, that we know of?

What Count that we know of Named
nearly certainly dwarf planets 10 8
highly likely to be dwarf planets 19 4
likely dwarf planets 45 0
probably dwarf planets 71 1
possibly dwarf planets 548 7
probably not dwarf planets 1036 10

(As of 2016-09-16)

This table just gives a general sense; it will always be outdated. See this website for current population stats:

Lets Talk About Mk2 and Makemake.

Me and A Friend were Discussing about this Dwarf Planet. And we Thought of something. Why is Makemake so Bright But MK2 is so Dark? We thought of it being Captured But Its Orbit Looks Completely Fine. I wanted to ask You guys if You knew Anything? /: (Heres a doodle that a did just for some flare)

Eris mission

Does anyone think that nasa should send a flyby mission to eris i know it will take 24 years but the sooner the better since Pluto got its own mission in 2015 I want eris to get some attention i mean nasa is considering a return to Pluto but why not send the probe to eris and get a view of a dwarf planet we’ve never seen plus eris could by just a facinating as Pluto I really hope nasa can send a probe to eris and stop making Pluto the center of attention we’ve send probes to ceres and Pluto show eris some love nasa and if the head of nasa comes across this post somehow I hope you consider this I loved the Pluto mission now I want to see eris get one of its own let’s call it new horizons 2 (if you have any sudjestions let me know in the comments) Pluto was such a cool world I want to see what eris has to offer if you don’t agree fine but if you do let’s at least try to convince nasa to send a probe also sorry if I wrote it bad I’m typing on my small phone you don’t have to agree with me I’m just trying to gather support right now
